Adrina stood behind Valora, half-smilling at the uncomfortable look oviously on her face. She wore a crimson gown with rather elaborate gold embrodery and The ruby pendant at her throat seemed to glitter. Her hair was done simply, with just her long bangs pulled back. Adrina snagged a goblet off a tray from a passing servant, adn sipped the fruity wine. She didn't think it would be the greatest night, and being slightly muddled by alchohal would make it go faster.

"Why the hell are you drinking that?!" Valora hissed in Adrina's ear. "Do you want to make a complete and utter fool out of both of us?" Valora shifted in her dress. "I KNOW neither of us want to be here, but could you not drink that? Please? I'd prefer you to have control over your own head."

"I wasn't planning on getting that drunk..." Adrina said, but nevertheless, put the glass down and decided to drink water instead. She watched the other guests dancing for a moment, skirts of twirling clolors and fancy embrodiery. "I don't suppose you can dance?" she asked Valora, hoping the fighter had been trained in the slightest bit by a dancer, for if not, they would both be in for an awkward night.

Adrina watched a young man dressed in jade green robes aproach. He smiled and bowed to Adrina. "My lady." He said. "What brings you to my humble lands?"
Adrina dipped into a curtsey, whiched wobbled a bit from her lack of using formalities. "My lord." She addressed him. "Only a poor quester's tired feet could bring me to such a...a..."
They both started laughing for no apparent reason. When they managed to control themselves, all formalites were forgotten. "And old joke" Adrina told Valora. "This is my cousin"
"More like third cousin twice removed or something" The cousin said, his face cracking into another smile.

Valora gave a mock bow. "An honor to meet you"
The High Mistress led them out into the courtyard and stopped in front of a complex pentagram. "Get in," she said. "This is how you're getting to the ball. I have to go meet a friend, so I don't have time to take you there myself." Dan stepped into the pentagram with Nik. "How long will this take?" he said, a bit nervous. "Only a few moments," she replied, "All I have to do is plug in the coordinates and you'll be on your way." Then she raised her hand, and light began to race around the pentacle, etching out the lines. The air began to thrum, and the light from the lines rose up and closed in dome that began to spin around them, the thrumming getting louder. The noise increased as the dome spun faster and faster, until finally it burst into shimmering sparks of light that floated to the ground, and they found themselves looking at the ball right in front of them.

Nik stumbled out of the pentagram, gazing at the ball. There were a few people he reconized: His aunt and uncle. He was thankful Sarrin wasn't there, or his father. As long as I don't have to dance, Nik thought. I might be able to make it through the night. He recalled his last experience at a formal event, and sighed. He didn't have the social grace or patience to be a member of the king's court.
The king! Nik thought suddenly. Will he be here tonight? He sincerely hoped not, to end up in the presence of the soveren would not be good, expecilly tonight, when it was likely he'd jump if some one said 'boo.'

Nik glanced around. "Let's go over there." He said, pointing to a group of teenagers, what looked to be the only people their age in the near vicinity.

"Gladly," Dan said, and hurried after him.
Valora noticed two teenage boys coming their way. She relaxed almost immediately, for they were her age, and they looked just as uncomfortable as her. "Hello," she said, "Who might you be?"
"Dannlyrien," he managed to say, "Dan for short." He had not expected her to be so muscled, and had to keep himself from staring.
"My name's Valora," she said smiling. Just for kicks, she flexed her muscles, and was rewarded by further gawking.

Adrina smiled, trying not to laugh at Valora's showing-off. "May I present to you," She adressed the new comers. " Crown Prince Aleccandoran Entenenford Volgranoff of Clamestra." When Alec gave a flourished bow, Adrina could help it, and started giggling. She stopped relitivly soon. "And I'm called Adrina."

"Prince?!" Oh man... first I meet the High Mistress, and now I meet a prince! What next? Now more than ever, Dan wished he would not make a fool of himself.
"Now, now, Adrina, you're intimidating the guests!" Valora said jokingly, knowing that she really shouldn't be talking with her muscle flexing.

"Yeah, Adrina" Alec said impishly. "You shouldn't try to intimidate innocent guests." He turned to the boys. "But call me Alec."
Adrina sighed. Really, she thought, this is a waste of my time. She looked at the people on the dance floor. How can they dance when there are questions left unanswered?

(('ello! posting at last, my internet was being a pain. >.< ))
Amara Altan allowed her turquoise eyes to sweep across the plaza, carefully keeping watch over her younger companions. The invitation had said "Amara Altan of the Celestial Clan and companions," but had failed to specify how many companions. How was she suppose to deny all of her clan sisters ad brothers a chance they might never get again? After all, she had managed to narrow down the number slightly to nine others; seven girls, three boys. Amara was one of the only three girls of the group dressed in the clan's traditional garb; she wore a dark violet laced top, somewhat resembling a corset, with a indigo purple trim and laces. Her skirt of the same colors stopped above her knees in the front but trailed to her ankles in the rear. Her wrist and ankle cuffs, as well as the bands securing her hair, were gold with polished turquoise stones set in them. One of the girls wearing similar clothing wore blue, the other green. Despite the fact that she did look very pretty, Amara had more to worry about than how she looked at the moment. Now the young Lunar Mage weaved in and out of people, trying to make sure her companions stayed out of trouble. A rather difficult task, seeing as a couple of the girls were very energetic and seemed to be everywhere at once. In fact, she as having such difficulty that she did not see the servant carrying a tray of wine cross directly in front of her. Amara realized what was about to happen a second too late to avoid collision, though a bit of quick footwork prevented her from becoming drenched in wine. Instead, she ended up doing an odd sort of twirl around the man and tripped over his foot, falling into the center of a group of five people and landing at the feet of a rather important looking boy, simultaneously with the sound of the goblets of wine shattering on the floor. Amara let out a mortified gasp and looked up at the five people she had just fallen into, then quickly sprang to her feet, bowing her head and apologizing profusely. "I am so sorry! Zis was all my fault," she said, feeling the heat rising in her cheeks. "I truly apologize, I should 'ave been watching where I was going more carefully." 'But of course, somezing like zis would 'appen! Zut, pourquoi?!' Amara scolded herself.

"Oh no, you're fine," Valora said obviously quite flustered, totally clueless as what the "proper" thing to do was in this situation. Dan felt himself rapidly turning beetroot red, as he suspected many other boys would be in this situation. "Is there any--" he began, when he was suddenly cut off by a thunderous noise, almost like a eagle screech, but deeper and ten times louder. "What in the blazes--?!" Valora began to exclaim, when her eyes widened, as she felt a presence at the edge of her conscience. Dan also began to feel the presence, when suddenly the fanfare trumpet rang out, announcing the arrival of an important guest. "May I present to you, the High Mistress Ciel Ramina, and the Eifinn Kiersvar!" When one first saw an Eifinn, they would immediately be reminded of a hippogriff or griffin, but with one crucial difference: The four-limbed body looked completely and utterly avian. His long tail of feathers dragging behind it, his wings folded against his back, and an elegant crest of feathers on his head, Kiersvar began to proceed forward with the High Mistress at his side. Dan simply stared, dumbstruck that this beautiful creature was the friend that the high mistress had been saying she would go meet. ~Good evening~ He said, not verbally, but telepathically to every individual at the ball with magic.

Amara's rapid apologies were cut short by the fanfare and she turned her bright eyes towards the important looking woman and the magnificent creature at her side. The horrifying notion that someone would have her and her companions thrown out vanished from her mind at the sight of the elegant beast. She had seen many unique creatures while traveling through countries with her clan, but none of them came close to rivaling the Eifinn Kiersvar. As she High Mistress and the griffin-like creature proceeded forward and addressed the guests, the nine other Celestial Clan Mages who had attended the ball with Amara began to cluster around to make sure their clan sister was all right. The youngest girl, maybe about eight or nine, pushed her way between Dan and Nik. "Iris, Iris!" she said loudly, tugging on Amara's skirt and pointing to Kiersvar. "Sister Iris, what is zat pretty-?" Amara quickly pressed a slender hand to the girl's mouth. "Shh, not now Vian," she hissed, shaking her head. Amara may have been a stranger to the formalities and traditions of Kaledir, but she knew when to be silent. Patting the blonde head of the little girl named Vian, she waited quietly for whatever was to follow.
