Daniel was disoreinted from the trip still. He couldn't quite grasp the concept. His mind had trouble holding onto it. Daniel hesitently stepped forward on to the grounds. He felt the warmth beneath his feet. Daniel was unsure and didn't know what was going on. Arthas only dragged him down further into confusion asking Why leave? Why now? What here for?.

Daniel walked further on to the sands. He moved between the eggs. Daniel's mind finally clicked, Hatching...but for dragons. Daniel knew that more riders were needed. He wanted to be a rider, somewhere deep down, but his mind kept drifting back to the Hall. Music, singing, Selene...

Daniel stopped in the middle of it all. If this happened it all would be gone. Then a little voice in his mind reasoned with him.
It'll be a for the better, it'll be like Arthas. Only a little bigger, a little deeper, and a little harder. But you'll have a dragon...
Blast the dragon, I want my life as it was...
It can be that, and more...
I'm fine with what I have...
You've been fine your whole life you've dedicated yourself, you've never asked for anything, its given to you now and if you refuse you can't get it later. Take the chance...
I'll see what I'm given then.

Daniel stood attentive. Then an egg burst behind him. Daniel turned slowly and started to take in what was behind him.

At once as the Brown entered his mind he put aside everything that happened. He didn't realize it at first. But he couldn't help but answer the plea. "I'm sorry she hurt you. I don't know where any food is actually." Daniel looked around and it slowly dawned on him that a DRAGON was talking to him.

Well can we go get some then? I'm really hungry... A blast of hunger seemed to swell over Daniel as the Brown said this. He also crooned at the metion his needs.

"Come on then lets go get food. I can't have you starving." Daniel akwardly led his dragon to the side where he saw some buckets full of food. My name is Drakoth. He seems kinda angry. Drakoth motioned to Arthas as he waddled to the buckets which would soon be Drakoth's dinner. Arthas meanwhile seemed to scold Daniel in the air above his head. Daniel ignored it, to caught up in his task.

"Oh, I'm sory I don't mean to be rude. I'm Daniel. This is one of my flits named Arthas." Please, be nice. Calm down. If he doesn't eat the whole bucket there is some for you... Arthas at this point seemed to settle down a bit. But still gave off a aura of anger. He took his perch on Daniel's shoulder.

Food... Drakoth dove into the bucket and Daniel quickly remembered to not let him eat every thing. Daniel pulled back the starving dragon and threw little moresals into his waiting mouth.

"Wait a bit, you need to chew it or you'll choke..."
I'm to hungry to choke... He proptly started hacking up a piece of meat to that was bigger than the little brown thought.
"No..." Daniel moved to his Dragon and tried to help, how he didn't know. But then a peice of meat was coughed up on to the floor with a sick thump.
Uh, you seem to know more about this eating thing...
"Just eat what I give you then..." Daniel quickly resumed the laboring task of feeding Drakoth. Arthas hopped of Daniel's shoulder and started to feed as well. His chosen meal was the discarded meat that was on the floor.

Suddenly something occured to Freya. "Actually...shouldn't we be meeting the Weyrlingmaster now? I think she'll tell us where the Barracks are..." She trailed off. Actually, she hoped the master would get there soon; Sulaith had curled up on the floor next to Xanth and her lids were closing one by one. "Don't go to sleep yet, lovey! You're walking to the Barracks; no way I'm carrying you!" she said, putting both hands on her muzzle and looking into her eyes. I am sorry mine, but I am so sleepy...

---

N'rin took the offered hand out of politeness, but secretly used all of his own strength to lift himself up; he didn't want L'real to be frustrated by her injury, but he also didn't want to make them worse. We're have enough work ahead of them to be worried by such things, he thought matter-of-factly.

Off of the sands, Ardeth frantically began wolfing down his food. Hey you, slow down! SO hungry! "Look at these bottomless pits!" He said to L'real.

Feeling a bit dazed, V'ten finally led Averith out of the Hatching Grounds. "Here we go," he said, grabbing a bowl of fresh meat chunks and popping a few in the blue's waiting mouth. "Remember to chew!!" He hastily added, noticing the problems some of the others were having with their new charges.

Concentrating on the food that he'd been about to swallow whole, Averith started chewing. Why do I need to chew it, though?? I'm so hungry, and this chewing business seems to be taking so long!!

"Because," V'ten replied, "some of these pieces are bigger than your throat. Chewing the food first breaks it up, so it won't get stuck when you swallow it. Please, always remember to chew first... I don't want you to choke!!"

If it really means that much to you, I'll do my best, the blue promised as he accepted another handful of meat fragments from the boy.

Nyree's heart was pounding as she was ushered out onto the blistering sands, having been thrown an oversized white robe the moment she dismounted the magnificent green that had brought her hear from the hall. She felt horribly sick to her stomach as she pulled the white robe over her head and hurried out onto the sands after the rest of the candidates just as many were moving off them, new hatchlings in tow. By the Egg why had she gone back to bed! It took only a few seconds for the bare souls of her small feat too burn, the image of the small white clad girl dancing across the hatching grounds to the group of candidates must have been quite laughable to the spectators but Nyree seemed to be oblivious of everything but the big golden dragon ahead and the sound of eggshells cracking all around her, sadly keeping both eyes on the protective mother ahead, her ears filled with the noise of the hatching and both feet moving rapidly all at the same time was a rather hard thing to too and she stumbled multiple times before she came to a full stop, having done a summersault and was now flat on her back. She had always hoped she would be hear on the hatching sands some day, ever sense she was little she had imagined it....and well this wasn't how she had imagined it. Now that she was hear and she had found a way to cope with the pain in her feet Nyree's worries came back to her in waves of sheer panic, only a few eggs had yet too hatch, in all the rush she hadn't really had time to worry about the fact that she might not impress even if she got there successfully.

Drakoth slowly started to eat less and less. His frenzy for food slowly stopped. It amazed Daniel that he still felt the hunger. Realizing it was his own, Daniel groaned. You are hungry too? You can have some of what's in the bucket. I didn't finish it all
"I can't eat that. I prefer the cooked meat. thanks for your offer though." Without the haste from the hatching Daniel finally came to focus on his dragon. Daniel hadn't looked really at Drakoth. Daniel finally noticed his dragon for the first time.
Drakoth was an earthy brown. It was a dull dark brown. The first image that came to his mind to discribe he was a rock. Drakoth seemed to be very sturdy. Daniel noticed that he seemed more cut than other dragons. The ridges and edges that were jutting out of his skin were more defined. Drakoth's muscles seemed to bulge from his skin, even though he was still young.

Natelin fidgeted as dragonet after dragonet hatched, dwindling the numbers greatly. They were all going so fast, would one find him suitable? The boy shuffled forward a bit, afraid that he was hidden and that the hatchlings couldn't seen him, although there were fewer candidates on the sands now.

--------------------------

P'las chuckled at the gaggle of green hatchlings, though he expressed some worry over them getting injured. Peri reassured his rider that they were all fine, just a few scratches here and there.

---------------------------

Neola blinked as the injured brown came closer to her. Those injuries. The green ichor staining the brown hide. Images of her dear, injured Neosk after the Threadfall came unbidden to her mind. Would everything remind her of that dear old watchwher?

I'm sorry that you hurt. I hope you get better soon. I go now, to find mine.

The voice echoed through her poor mind, drifting lost in sorrow. Neola watched, tears in her eyes, as the little brown scampered away from her as fast as he could manage. Sighing, she wiped away the tears with the sleeves of the robe.

-------------------------------

((Too many charries!! Gah! *fingers almost fall off*))

R'ign kept one eye on the weyrlings already Impressed and the other on the hatchlings. She watched as the little brown approached Neola and skittered away as fast as he could shortly afterwards. The girl seemed upset...

She mourns for the watchwher.

I told you this would be too soon...
She watched the girl for a moment. The poor child. Not given enough time to properly grieve. No wonder the little brown was so shaken. And just the wrong color. He probably reminded her of the watchwher too much. Poor, poor girl. Well, Impression would help. Perhaps one of the greens would pick her.

The last few eggs cracked at once, and Ray was pleased to see another brown, and three blues, in addition to a few more greens.

The brown, with a large rounded piece of shell stuck to his rump, hurried straight to Natelin. Hello! Sorry it took me so long!

One of the blues stopped in the middle of the cluster of broken shells and settled down a moment, turning his head this way and that, while another bright fellow approached Fordan. Mine? Is that you? It is you!!

A smallish but sturdy green hurried to Nyree, Your feet! Oh no, they hurt! Are you okay?

A third blue slipped on a shell fragment and fell over with a shriek. He flopped about in the sand, finally righting himself, then with a shake, carefully watched where he put every foot until he reached Noridon. Sorry about that, I slipped!

One of the greens sat back on her haunches and shrieked. Ray looked again at the grounds, was that the only green left? Yes, it was the last save for the undecided blue and another blue that was making his way from the far side of the clutch. I'm hungry and tired and where are you? she cried, her voice echoing in the mind of Coren, the person she chose but couldn't see.

Ray heard Wrath rumble in amusement, and the dragon relayed what the green had said. Now that's one way to find a rider, Wrath commented, still making her amused noise. Make the candidate come to her, smart girl.

Now with only two blues left, the pressure was on. The undecided one still sat, mulling over his options, while the other, having reached the group of Candidates, gave an exaggerated sigh, I came all this way, he told Liaden seriously, You should be Impressed!

The last blue continued to wait, showing no signs of distress or upset, just sitting patiently in the sands. Ray glanced up at Wrath, concerned that he seemed to be sitting there for so long. It wasn't like there were a lot of Candidates left. The one girl, who seemed to be crying--was that the Watchwher's handler? Ray couldn't be sure. Just a couple others, all of them staring at him with a mixture of hope and dread, except the girl.

The blue slowly got to his feet, then in a burst of speed, rushed toward Noridon. Were you worried? I'm sorry. I had to make sure it was you! And it was!

As the last Impression happened, Ray slipped down to sit again on Wrath's foreleg, sighing. "No dud eggs this time. Good clutch, sweetie, very good clutch. I'm proud of you."

Wrath preened a bit. Thank you. And now, as soon as this place clears out, I'm going to get some food. And a bath. I can scrub myself well enough for today; go to the feast, I'll call you when I want my oiling. Nodding, Ray got up, watching the guests milling their way out of the tiers, and the newly-Impressed pairs making for the food, the disappointed Candidates being herded away.

Wrath, remind me to check up on that Watchwher handler girl.

Natelin blinked as the brown ran directly towards him. When Impression occured, the boy, N'lin now, knew that he would never trade Dartoroeth for the largest bronze out there. The boy stroked the damp hatchling, reassuring the dragonet. Smiling fondly, N'lin brushed the remaining egg shell pieces off of the brown.

Toro, for that was what N'lin shortened the brown's name to mentally, nudged the youth. Food?

N'lin grinned. "Of course. Come... we'll get you lots of food."

--------------------------------

P'las smiled up towards Peri, who rumbled happily. Three good, strong bronzes, a handful of sturdy browns, and a good mix of blues and greens. A clutch to be proud of. It had lacked a gold egg, but the Weyr wasn't exactly hurting for golds. Which reminded him about his earlier meeting with the Weyrwoman. He really needed to have another and see what duties she expected him to perform... But for now, he'd enjoy the feast.

-------------------------------

R'ign made sure the last of the weyrlings were heading in her direction. Sighing, she was glad that she wasn't having to deal with the disappointed ones. She had the happy ones. Much easier to deal with them.

-------------------------------

Neola was not aware of the Hatching's ending. That injured brown had sent her off to a Pernese version of Lala-Land and it was only Shadill's gentle guiding that got the girl off the hot sands. Immediately, Neola ducked into the shadows and made her way to somewhere private where she could mourn for her beloved watchwher in peace. No one would really notice her absence, anyways. There were all celebrating those who Impressed.

A'erak snagged a bowl for himself and Kelenth. He fed the pieces one by one to his new dragon, "Take it slowly now. I know you're hungry, but please don't eat too quickly."

I cannot eat quickly if you feed the pieces to me slowly.

A'erak chuckled as he fed the rest of the bowl to Kelenth. For the first time he admired his dragon's brown hide. It was a lighter brown, almost the color of klah with a splash of cream in it. A'erak could hardly believe that Kelenth would grow to be the size the browns that he had seen today.

And you will grow to be as big as one of their riders. Kelenth said opening his mouth for another piece of meat.

With a grin, A'erak gave him the last piece of meat in the bowl. Kelenth crooned in pleasure as he swallowed the last piece. I am full now. Thank you, mine. Are we going to be going to sleep soon?

"I think so, but I'm not sure." A'erak said, looking around, "Maybe one of the others will know."

In the crowd he spotted a familiar face, "Hey, Alira! Congratulations!"

Aoki smiled as she watched new weyrling pairs walk off the sands. She smiled fondly up at Lyedarith, "You know, I almost miss our weyrling days. We caused some trouble... it was so much fun though."

I do like being able to fly when we please. It is also nice to have our own weyr.

"I'm not saying that it doesn't have it's perks..." Aoki said, "I just miss it sometimes. Can we head back to the weyr so I can change for the feast?"

Of course.

Aoki climbed up to Lyedarith's back and they left the Hatching Grounds for their own weyr.

Akai smiled as the last of the hatchign seemed to be over. She shifted and realized she was stuck.

She had her injure kopi on her shoulders, and her sound asleep dragon curled up in her lap.

"Oh dear.." akai said frowning and blinking. Just how was she supposed to get up with .. she attempted to wiggle her feet.. they wored.. but they felt like the'd been partially doused with numbweed. She sighed a bit then began to rub Tollyth's tummy gently

"Tollyth please my dear.. I need you to get up now." Akai said soflty to the sound asleep dragon. She got no responce at all except a twich of a tail.. and that might have been from dreaming.

She sighed and wiggled a bit making her dragon wiggle also.

"Tollyth please love.. we need to get up.. everyone is leaving soon" she said and shook his shoulder lightly. She got a grumpy responce back .. though not at all legible.. and then promplty silence again as her lovely beautiful.. hyper.. blue.. was once again dead to the world

"That's it. Tollyth get your lazy rump off of me you silly dragon" she said shaking her head, amused and a touch annoyed at how deeply her dragon slept

"if it's going to be this hard to get you up every day we'll never be on time for anything" she said exasperated. And shook her dragons shoulder a bit harder making his entire body wiggle.

I'm up now mine.. came a barely coherent voice in her mind and Tollyth got up off of her finally though stumbled and sat down giving a great huge yawn.

I think i am up.. why did you shake me.. i was having such a nice dream he pouted at her and she smiled faintly

"i'm sorry tollyth.. but we're leaving here now.. and i needeed to be able to get up.. I'll carry you so you can sleep though if you like " Akai said as she stood slowly and felt her partially numb legs starting to come back to life. Tolyth stared at her then debated it and shook his head

I am up now.. I will make it to where we have to go he said to her.. then yawned again. Akai smiled and reached down rubbing his eyeridges.

"Thank you tollyth. I'm sorry i called you a silly dragon." she appoligised. He crooned soflty to her and rubbed his head aginst her hand

Its alright mine. I was being silly. Your legs were going funny. if i'd stayed asleep you woudln't have felt them at all.[/color he stated and she nodded. He dcrooned his appoligies and she jus tsmiled nodding agian

"It's alright my darling Tollyth" she said.. They turned and headed where the other canid...er to be dragonriders were leaving the hatching ground.

"as you can see Kopi is still sound asleep also. Even all that wiggling wont' wake him right now." she giggled soflty ans Tollyth laughed in her mind and gave her a dragonish grin.

"Besides you can sleep more later i'm sure.." she said Tollyth nodded and happly walked with her.. playfully nudging her sides as they moved

"silly dragon" she said affectionatly and rubbed his head knob. She wondeered where they were heading now and what they would do.

He had been hiding among the spectators, watching as so many people found their fate. Finally, as things slowed down, and long after Alerai had impressed, Dilian moved from his seat. Wandering aimlessly, he finally spotted her, sitting their with her... her.. new life...
Coming up beside her noislessly, he spoke in a quiet tone, "You did realy well out there, I'm proud of you." Shards I hope this is a dream, why do things get so complicated?

"You're right Freya. I'm sure the Weyrling Master will be comeing soon to tell us where we're supposed to be going. Though I think I'll have to wake Xanth up. She doesn't seem like she's going to make it." A'ra smiled down at Xanth, who was almost snoring with her head resting on A'ra's feet.

Turning back to watch the last of the hatchings, she spotted Natelin, and watched as he was impressed by a borwn. "Look, Natelin's got a brown, but where's Neola?" She tried to find her among the crowd that was now leaving the Hatching Grounds, but didn't see her.

N'lin waved at the group as he strolled closer, Dartoroeth trudging along behind him. The brown nudged the boy when he slowed to grin at the others. Food. Now. N'lin glanced down at the brown. Please?

That's better.
N'lin thought to the brown, then found a bowl of food and started to put it into the brown's mouth, quickly pulling his hand back so it didn't get bitten clean off.

I would not eat your hand, Mine. The hatchling sounded offended that his rider would even think such a thing.

N'lin patted the brown. "I know. Sorry Toro."

-----------------------------------------

R'ign slowly moved closer to the group of new weyrlings, waiting for the last ones to arrive before starting to gather them all together.

"Weyrlings, gather around a bit here. Those of you who just got here, keep an ear open while you shove food into your dragonet's mouth." She grinned at those still doing so.

"Congradulations to you all on your Impressions. For those of you who don't know me, I am R'ign, rider of blue Kerth and Weyrlingmaster here at Fort. My assistant, Nevaeh, rider of blue Javareth, is currently recovering from the last Threadfall, so she could not make it here. What we say is law." She glanced around sternly at them for a few moments before continuing.

"As you have noticed, the dragonets have quite a hunger. Your main duty for the first few sevendays will be to feed, bathe, and oil the growing dragonets. They will grow rapidly for the next Turn. But for the next few sevendays, they will do little more than grow, eat, and sleep. You will have to constantly oil their hide so that it does not become imperfect and crack between when they grow older.

"For the moment, however, you'll notice that most of your lifemates are about to fall asleep where they stand, so I'll take you all over to the Weyrling Barracks. You may have to oil some of them, then get them to settle and you'll then go to the Lower Caverns for the Hatching Feast. Tomorrow, your dragonets will wake up. Feed them and we'll take a trip to the lake to settle them for a nap there. When they wake, they'll be right where we can bathe and oil them. Any questions?"

Being in hearing range of R'ign B'lint decided to stay sitting on the ground with the half asleep Math. He listened as she introduced herself and spoke of her assistant and the name quickly rang a bell in B'lint's mind. He had heard about her during his work in the stables earlier today. She was the Weyrling who had disobeyed R'ign to go out and save her precious weyrmate.

Listening to the rest of R'ign's speech B'lint sighed. He knew most of this even though he was a new Weyrling. He had many times skipped out of chores to listen in to Weyrling lessons so he knew a lot already but it would be best to listen and learn it again for Math's sake.
