I just hope that Peter's run in with Sylar doesn't lead to a short-time taste for brains. sweatdrop

Although, if he did do that, he'd probably have a power that sticks. sweatdrop not that he would. He's too nice a guy to go brain munching. :miniXD
Still on the Sylar-Brain-Eating theory? Made sense when we thought that Mr. Bennett's right hand man was Sylar, but now I'm not so sure.

I never thought the Hatian was Sylar... and I believe that I'm the originator of the Syler the Brain Eater theory.

Actually, I think Sylar takes the brains because it's the only sure-fire way to kill off a Hero. Take Claire for example. You can't kill her but when she got stabbed through the brain she remained unable to heal until the stick was removed. Once the stick was removed though she came back, despite being dead for the last several hours (my theory on that is that her brain wasn't fully dead, some part of it was still bouncing electrons around and once the stick got removed the electrons managed to bridge the gap and kick start the healing process, hence an added benefit of her regen isn't just regen but also a more durable body that can last longer in brutal conditions... her lack of apparent pain recepters also seems to indicate that to be the case). Removing the brain is the most sure way to kill off a Hero without knowing what they can do because it removes the thing that commands the body. While your body may be super powerful, or you can regenerate, your body can't do that without your brain telling you to, so you take the brain and blam, Hero's dead, they aren't coming back.

On that note, I wonder what'd happen if you removed Claire's brain and then stuck it back in later on. Would she be able to fully regenerate from that? Or would the severing of nerve connections be too great for the brain/body to compensate? Is there a time limit to how long her brain can function without sustenance? Or could you stick a half rotted brain into her partially rotted cranium and she'd full restore like deus ex machina Wolverine?

I think he might be after her because if he gets her power and the nuke dude's power, he can trigger ground zero and theoretically walk away from it.

I'm not too sure of that. Sylar is after the patients that Suresh was researching. The people he kills along the way are collateral damage but he's always aiming for other genetic mutations. Additionally, it seems that his targetting of these people is revenge, perhaps against Suresh, or perhaps because of something else, but it's most definately linked to Suresh due to the fact that Sylar is the Patient Zero who Suresh was seekig and Sylar's apartment when Mohinder found it was filled with notes similar to Suresh's, as well as the wall of... shame I guess.

I do believe this is personal to Sylar, he wants to kill off of these people with his own two hands (or psychic powers, whatever) and a nuke to mass kill them certainly doesn't fit the existing profile and habit. This is definately given weight by how Sylar kills off Jackie; he stares her in the eyes as he cuts her head open. A definate personal touch which hints that this is how Sylar always tries to kill his victims; by watching them die in person. If anything, Sylar attacks nuke guy and nuke guy goes nuclear, which is what causes the explosion; an unintentional act. Sylar also shows no signs of being able to mimic powers, his power set seems to be of the Jean Grey type, telekinesis on the molecular scale. This is given weight by the few times Sylar's been encountered by another powered being, most noteably when he meets up with Eden and the Haitian at the end of ep 9, Sylar does not possess their powers, his ability to fend off Eden's power is limited and seems to require a great deal of willpower, and he has no ability to fend off the Haitians telepathic assault.

That said, it could be possible for him to be experimenting on the brains which he's taken since none of them have ever been seen from again, but he wouldn't need brains to do genetic studies, just samples of blood or tissue. I still believe that the brain taking is simply to ensure absolute death in the victims and remove any chance of them resurrecting themselves through spontaneous cellular regeneration.

The problem with the "remove the brain to make sure they're dead" theory is that is assumes that metahumans are common enough that regenerators like Claire (let alone ones capable from coming back from effective death) are common.

For starters, metahumans don't seem to be all that common. We've seen about what, maybe 20 or so? And neither Sylar's map nor anyone else's seems to be overly populated with metahumans. They're emerging, but still quite the rarity.

Now going forward from this starting point, how many duplications of powers have we seen? The closest I've noted yet is our buddy the police officer and the Hatian working for Claire's dad... and they themselves don't seem to be exactly the same. Granted the difference between the two might be as small as personal technique or training/power development, but there seems to be differences.

No matter the reason for the brain theft, I am nearly certain that it isn't to ensure death. Maybe he doesn't eat em for powers, but I'm certain that Sylar has a use for em.

While yes, the freezing that we've seen at one of the other scenes could have been produced by molecular level telekinesis, lets remember that such applications lean more towards the high-end sci-fi geekery than this show has shown us so far. I think it is far more likely that he posses two powers than one with two incredibly subtle variations as far as the average viewer (remember again, we're watching major broadcast tv during a prime-time slot rather than the Sci-Fi channel). Not only are we dealing with a villian here, but we're dealing with the villain currently being set to run up against the collected heroes... perhaps as the end villain, or perhaps as an earlier one who serves to bind the heroes together.

I can say one thing though... given that Claire's only power thus far is being unkillable, Sylar gaining powers (which he may be more subtle about using than he has exibited so far, possibly due to having less control over the active ones) makes the statement "Save the Cheerleader, save the world" ring truer than anything I can come up with so far, given that the nuke is supposedly the motivating factor in the oncoming apocalypse.

Because a nigh-unkillable Sylar is a terrifying prospect indeed, especially if he's been gaining powers as he goes.

And because the public likes a just hero fighting a villain with similar powers, and a braineating Sylar would make one hell of a nemesis for Peter.

My bad. I misunderstood something somewhere along the lines of discussion.

The eating was incidental. The core idea was taking brains and getting powers/knowledge. I just like the idea of eating them. Not only does it personally appeal to me, but if you're gonna make a villian steal brains to get powers, you might as well go all the way to make him fully horrifying.

Thirded.

And woot for the brain-stealing-for-powarz theory!

Oh, man, this episode was good stuff. I'm so excited. But I'm going to be absolutely miserable waiting 'til after the new year for the episode-after-next. gonk
