A trick of the wind, brushing up a layer of ash and dust, amplified Chloe's soft-spoken words as she touched down, Alkaid chirruping as Chloe released Entreri as well as her dragons except for Dai. The words blended in with the mournful cry of the balmy breeze, as the heat of Mt. Chimney wavered like a mirage over the ground.
It certainly wasn't a cheery place.

Her newly aquired Latios, whom she had dubbed Lantis, agreed whole-heartedly, although he still shied away from the group, still not quite used to being around so many other Pokemon, let alone a human. Chloe was understanding of his situation. After all, he had just been flying around minding his own business when a strange girl who had been thrown from her Kingdra had hurled a Master Ball at him.
It certainly wasn't an everyday occurence...
Turning her attention back to the desolate landscape, Chloe sighed. This certainly didn't seem to be turning out like the adventure she had hoped. She figured there'd be at least some wild Pokemon she could bother, but... there wasn't a sign of anything.
Except ash.
But that didn't count.
Especially when it stuck in your hair.
Yuck.
Grimacing as she tried to ignore the constantly swirling masses of burnt... stuff, Chloe treked onwards.

Around them, piles of ash became dunes, as Chloe and her party made their way to the base of the volcano. Peering upwards, Chloe shielded her eyes from the swirling ash, finally settling for taking her goggles from her bag and putting them on. The stuff was just about as bad as when she had been in the desert.
"Hm... so, wanna climb it and see what we can find?" she asked her party. They didn't really have any better ideas, so, hefting her bag over her shoulder, Chloe made her way upwards. Entreri hopping from rock to rock, and the rest of her party simply flying upwards, wondering why Chloe didn't ask one of them for a lift. It would have been much easier that way.
In all reality, in Chloe's mind at least, if her Pokemon were to become stronger, she had to become stronger along with them. Although she certainly wasn't planning on taking on Graveler, she figured the least she could do was practice a bit.

That's what she told herself, anyway, as Chloe climbed, gasping, onto a nearby ledge, dropping her bag beside her as she took a breather. Her Pokemon gathered, as Chloe peered over the ledge.
"...Didn't make it too far, have we?" she laughed, taking a sip from her canteen.
"Braaaaa..." Mikami grumbled. He was getting bored rather quickly.
Bored crazy Flygon did not bode well...
"Grooon," the Flygon snorted, banging his hands together as he stomped about, crunching ash beneath his claws as he lowered his head, and rammed through the nearest ash dune, vanishing beneath a veil of grey that fell behind him as he plowed through to the channel on the other side.
"Uh... Mika?" Chloe questioned, peering at the hole the Flygon had left behind him.

Trying to peer over the ash dune was impossible, and the hole soon covered itself as the ash shifted, leaving no trace of the Flygon. Chloe sighed. She assumed he'd eventually come back.
"So, guess we should keep on going," she reasoned. Entreri nodded. He was more than prepared, and more than willing to test his endurance.
They all jumped as the ash erupted from up ahead. Entreri darted in front of Chloe as if he had been there all along.
From that break in the ash dune emerged a dust covered Flygon as Mikami charged, roaring still. He didn't slow, but plowerd through the dune across the way, crunching through the ash with ease and disappearing from sight.
"Will ya stop it already!?" Chloe sighed, exasperated. But Mikami was already gone.

Stretching, Chloe shouldered her bag again, prepared to renew her climb.
"Gooooon!" they all heard Mikami's cry from behind the dune to the side and they all scrambled, expecting the Flygon to burst through in their midst, and likely with his head still lowered, horns first.
The dune shivered as he hit it across the way, and he roared again fiercely. But his pitch changed suddenly, his cry going from defiance to surprise. Then it faded rapidly, as if the Flygon had fallen away.
Chloe looked to Entreri. "That didn't sound good," she stated. To which the Sneasel nodded his agreement.
Cael and Lantis dove for the point on the drift where they had heard Mikami's cry. Digging like a pair of Houndour for a bone, they weakened the integrity of the dune, as it crumbled down before them, complicating their excavation. However, after a moment, the whole dune collapsed downward, leaving a gaping hole which was conveniently much larger than a certain trouble-making Flygon. The ash fell away, leaving the dragons, Chloe, and the Sneasel staring down a dark, empty shaft.
"Mikami?" Chloe called more urgently, realizing the Flygon had fell quite far.
"Hm... think we should go after him?"
Entreri gave her a look that clearly stated that the group should just leave the Flygon, but Chloe would have none of it. Rummaging in her bag until she had found an Escape Rope she had come across many months before, Chloe tied the end to a sturdy-looking tree, hoping it would hold long enough for her to get down and subsequently back up afterwards.

Chloe dropped down beside the ledge and tried to pick a careful route, but a cry came up from far below, followed by a high-pitched, sizzling roar that was unlike anything Chloe or the others had ever heard. It sounded like a mix between a bird's cry and a hiss of a gigantic lizard.
Chloe rolled over the lip, turning and setting his hands, as Entreri dived to hop down the side of the shaft, using his claws like grappling hooks, shimmying down the rocky face as Chloe dropped.
Entreri motioned that the ledge about fifteen feet down was safe enough to stand on, as Chloe dropped from the rope, hoping the Sneasel's intuition was correct. The ledge held, as Chloe sighed, looking up to the shaft of light, where Cael, Lantis, and Alkaid were following, taking the sky route, as they joined Chloe and the Sneasel. So far so good.
A loud crash from far below startled them again, though, followed by a cry of pain and another otherworldly shriek. More nose arose, claws scraping on stone, hissing snakes and eagle screams, and a dragon's roar of defiance.
Then, a cry of absolute terror, Mikami's cry, shook them all to their spines. Since when did Mikami ever cry out in fear?

Entreri darted down an incline, as Chloe peered over the edge. "What do you see?" she called, knowing that the Sneasel's night vision was hundreds of times better than her own. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, Chloe still couldn't see anything in the gloom, as Cael and Lantis followed suit, Alkaid reluctantly following. But the Swablu was shaking, clearly not pleased at being there.
Chloe swallowed, she heard a grunt and a shriek from far below. Images of a Flygon ghost haunted her and told her to run far away. But Entreri was down there, Cael was down there, Lantis was down there. And Mikami was down there. The girl swallowed again, and, with one last glance back up at the light, she vanished into the darkness.

As soon as he hit the ledge, Entreri recognized it for what it was. The tall stalagmite mound rose up at an angle, melding with the stone of the wall behind him.
Even though he was only fifteen feet down from the lip, Entreri let his mindset slip back into what he used to be, a creature of the dark of the caves beneath the Whirl Islands. He started down tentatively, feeling the way with his claws as his eyes adjusted to the darkness.
His eyes focused on the gloom, and he saw the contours of the stalagmite and the floor some twenty feet below. Grabbing hold of the rope so Chloe could have an easier way down, the Sneasel started downwards, until he could see the cavern floor.
On the bottom lay a pile of ash, evidence from the dig from above, and a few scattered rocks. What caught his eye, however, was the glint of wet blood, and claw marks shorn right into the very stone. Down below, and to the left, he could hear the sound of claws being scraped against stone. As if a very stubborn Flygon was being dragged.

With a flick of his wrist, Entreri dropped the remainder of the Escape Rope down to the cavern floor, breaking out into a run. So agile was the Sneasel that he literally ran down the side of the shaft, not having to drop to all fours, he kept his sharp claws at the ready. He hit the floor at a run, heading towards the tunnel that he had spotted ahead, but he skid to a halt, sensing movement and a whisper of sound at the far wall.
Entreri whirled to meet the threat, and his eyes went wide indeed when he saw the creature, unlike anything he had ever known, coming out fast for him.
It was roughly the height and a half of Chloe, so it relatively towered over the Sneasel, it charged on strong back legs, like some demented bipedal lizard. Tail outstretched behind him, suspended, it counterbalanced the rest of its body weight, most of which resided in its head.
Although, as the Sneasel examined it a bit more, but not too long, he wasn't really sure it could be called a head...

Shouting a warning to the approaching Pokemon and trainer, Entreri dodged out of the way of the sharp mandibles, two in total, that lined both sides of the creature's head and snapped just inches from the Sneasel's heels. Several eyes spotted the top of its head, as a few stalks of spines jutted from the top, as they waved, sensing the air currents movements, and thus helping it keep an impeccable sight of Entreri's movements.
As the powerful jaws snapped, they thankfully only hit air, as Entreri used his momentum to carry him to the wall, snapping his legs extended the second he touched, bouncing off the stone facing of the wall, carrying him over the dangerous creature. He slashed out with his claws, earning but minor blows on the creature's hide, as the monster roared, shaking the cavern in a screech that identified it as the creator of the sound from earlier.
Chloe had made it to the cavern floor, and... pretty much just gawked. There wasn't much she could do against such a beast, but Cael and Lantis were quick to make up for her lack of force. Even Alkaid joined in, pecking at the creature's hide as the Dragonite lashed out with a jolt of electricity, Lantis firing off a Psywave, and Entreri continued his work with his claws.
The creature hissed/roared once more, eyes narrowing as it let loose a belch of black mist that had all the Pokemon about it backing off, gasping for air.

The monster growled, leaping as it landed on its own tail, using its powerful muscles in the appendage to launch the monster forward, it kicked out at Cael, the Dragonite grappling with it a moment before he was knocked back, letting out a suprised cry as the creature snapped at him with its jaws.
Entreri was suddenly there, slashing wildly at the creature's back, leaping from armored plate from armored plate, trying to find a weakness in the monster's hide. The Sneasel didn't cause much, if any, damage to the beast, but it did attract its attention.
Whether that was a good thing or not was still to be determined...

The creature hissed, black tusks rowed with teeth snapping angrily as it dove for Enreri. The Sneasel hopped out of the way, as fast as he could, but even he knew that there was no way he could outrun the creature.
Or out-hop, he noted, as the strange beast took to its tail once more, lashing out with its powerful hind legs at Entreri, as it propelled itself forward using its tail as momentum. The Sneasel spun, striking out with his claws, aiming for the head this time, as pretty much everywhere else on the durn critter was turning out to be a tough egg to crack.
The creature screamed, as the trio of fliers joined in the fray, and with a few more Thunderbolts, the monster vanished into the darkness, as Chloe gasped, glad that they were all alive.

"What. The. Heck. Was. That..." Chloe hissed to herself, as she examined her party for wounds. Other than a few scrapes, they were fine, which relieved Chloe to no end. She had feared for their lives just moments before.
"Alrighy. I vote we find Mikami, and find the exit. Hopefully not finding any more of.... those..." Chloe shuddered, as her Pokemon nodded.
Entreri took up the lead, guiding the group through the darkness as they made their way through the pitch black tunnels. Chloe feared for using a flashlight, since she was sure that it would attract unwanted attention.
And they really didn't want that right now...
Following the tunnels, Entreri stopped the group a couple of minutes later, pointing into a cavern. A shuffle was heard from inside, as well as a growl. Chloe gulped, wincing. It looked like they had one more obstacle to face.
