For me, it was six, maybe even seven years ago, a friend of mine was into anime, and I didnt even know what anime was at the time. She had me over for a night and after the first VHS, I was addicted to FY. It was when the VHS were still coming out and the series wasnt even over in America. We would wait for months for the new VHS to come out and every time we were done with it, I was either crying or screaming about the eps. I got very into it and when the series was done, I was in a way devistated because I could no longer follow characters I had grown with. To this day I skip when Nariko dies.. It kills me ;_; Ever sence then, i have gotten as much as I could aford in Yuu Watase series, I even had a job for over a year at an anime store here in Cali. I love Yuu Watase for the wounderful world she has brought me into.

I'd say a little over a year now, maybe a year and a quarter.

The word "Ceres" caught my eye 'cause I was familiar with it in Roman mythology. I didn't think it had any connection to the story, but the title CERES: Celestial Legend looked interesting, and I got hooked. Actually, I read #1 & 2 of CERES more like a year and and three quarters ago. I just had a hard time finding #3. But I found it a little before the summer of 2005, and then I was nuts for that series. In between that very long period of time, I had discovered Alice 19th and was crazy for it, so I started getting that (I have a complete set of Alice 19th now). And I didn't even know the two series' were by the same author!

I started about two years ago. My friend, a total FY fan, introduced me, oddly, with volume six, as our library only had three and six, and six came to me first. So I read it. I got confused with the whole idea when my friends tried to explain it to me without pictures, but I understood then. And I got hooked.

However, my reading has been slow: I've only finished FY and Alice 19th, and I've read some of Ceres... -_-

I first met Yu Watase in 1999 at Animazement in Raleigh NC. I had never heard of Fushigi Yugi which was all the craze back then. I had never seen any of her works, nor did I know who she was.

What I do know..is that after dressing up as the Sailor Scouts and performing in the cos-play, Yu Watase decided to declare team #15 (That was me and my friends) her favorite group. Our prize? A camera with Miaka & Tamahome in superdeformed (chibi) mode on it.. and a pair of Tasuki's earrings (Clipon).

Shannon got the camera, I got one earring and my friend Tonya got the other. We were plenty proud of ourselves.

And at that point we decided to find out what FY was and watched it on fansubs. LOVED IT! Yui was my favorite from there on out and Miaka betrayed her exactly like she said! So the next year - SURPRISE - Yu Watase returns to Animazement.

I printed out two gorgeous pictures on beautiful paper. One was of Yui and the other was the very elegant manga picture of the Seiryuu Seishi, the one where Ashitare is a 'wolf' and Miboshi actually looks like he's human as opposed to a harlequin circus clown in all that makeup. Anyways.. so I hand them over to Yu to sign and she laughs about them. I have no idea why but I'm guessing not many people at the time would hand her stuff showing support for the 'villian' side of FY. Although I will state this again.. YUI IS NOT A VILLIAN! heart xd

Anyways.. I bought the manga later when it came out and I'm totally excited about Genbu Kaiden.

My two pictures of Yui and her Seishi grace either side of a nice FY wall scroll with Yui as the Priestess with her Seishi behind her. Unfortunately Ashitare and Miboshi are drawn anime style so they look like freaks.

How come Miaka never got any freaks in her seishi? It's not fair!

I was first exposed to Watase Yuu around 2001 when I started reading Fushigi Yuugi (wow, five years already?). And I *loved* it, to say the least. Since then I've read some of Watase's other works (Ayashi no Ceres, Alice 19th...). Imadoki was wonderful beyond all description, but I didn't really get all that into reading another of her series until Genbu Kaiden started coming out. smile Now it's the only series I really follow.

I started about a year ago now. I first started reading Ceres since I saw it everywhere in the bookstores and sounded odd, but interesting. I picked up Volume 1 and needed to read more. Eventually, I ended up just buying the DVDs [anime] to save money. $30 for 3 books is kind of a lot.. so I became a fan. Then I started Genbu Kaiden and found Fushigi Yuugi Mysterious Play by accident. I picked up Vol 2 of Mysterious Play thinking it was Kaiden and got all confused. Then ended up with the anime, and so here I am now. I just love her work!

The Manda
So how long has everyone been a Watase Yuu fan? And which one of her works got you started? By all means this can be long and detailed. I'm just curious ^^

I got started, like many, on Fushigi Yuugi about 5 years ago. I picked up a VHS of it in stores and started watching it. Soon it turned into an addiction. Given that at the time digi-fansubs weren't big and the DVDs were only in boxsets it took me forever before I saw the entirity of the series. I read the manga in bits in pieces where I could in English. Then shortly there after I hooked into Ayashi no Ceres, I can't exactly remember how I found out about it, but I do remember reading online translations of the manga before I watched all of the anime, and then when I finished collecting and watching the anime how disappointed I was x_x

Summer 2002 I finally got the opportunity to go abroad for a short period of six weeks to Japan and enjoy a brief homestay. I went all out buying manga while I was there. I got all 14 volumes of Ayashi no Ceres, the 9 volumes that make up the Kanzenban versions of Fushigi Yuugi, all five volumes of Imadoki, and then I found the best work of all ^^ Alice 19th!! It only got up to volume four while I was there, but I was hooked.

Since then I've managed to collect other works through conventions and a Japanese outlet mall about four hours away. More recently though, I buy my manga online ^^ I love having my own checking card hehe XD And money of course. But yea, I've since managed to gather just about all of her current works except for Epotoransu Mai, which will be coming to me tomorrow ^^

I love Watase Yuu and find her just to simply be an inspiration. I hope to continue my fandom for another five years >^^<
