[Sorry for not posting a lot, but I want to be sure the others don't get left behind.]

The gray griffin is interested in Tanyeera's whistle; it sounds like a greeting and gryphons also use whistles in their language. Cold air slides over the two fliers, calm waves gush along the side of the great white ship. Luft feels very much at ease this night. Not that her guard is down or anything, first nights don't have a lot of action because they're all still near civilization.
And it will be an honor, and something new, to be working with another Sentry. Did you eat with the rest of the crew? I'm not so sure the menu will have red meats, which is all I can digest and eat comfortably.
Luft knows that there'd be no luxuries on the ship, but she can't digest fish, fruit, breads, or vegetables without having something wrong with her bowels. Which would be very embarrassing out on the sea.

Being seasick was never a jolly time and the young man before him proved so. Knowing the man wouldn't be accustomed to a hertasi, Gesten takes a few steps back to give him a respectful distance when the vomit noises have ceased, and the stranger was able to speak. His abnormal eyes watch the ill one sit down then he looks up to the familiar gryphon and a larger figure, a dragon, flying about the ship protectively.
"You should keep yourself busy to prevent anymore seasickness. That is hard at times though, be sure to eat lightly...looks as though you already do, though."
Gesten flickers out his tongue before he scratches lightly at the scales on his snout, producing a soft, grating noise with his claws.
"What is your occupation here?"

"I can eat mostly any meat though I think vegetables taste disgusting." Tanyeera replied. "Still, you cannot be choosy out here away from land. I am certain though, that if you speak with the cook, he can arrange a different menu for you." she offered. "They can't possible expect sentries to do their duties with uncomfortable stomachs."

She thrummed a little sound of amusement, the draconic equivallent of a chuckle.

"Navigator." Chrono replied simply as he tugged the red headband off from around his head to wipe his brow. He eyed Gesten with a quizzical look."Excuse my rudeness, but what race are you? It's not one I'm familiar with, sir."

For being such an oddball of a lad aboard this ship, at least he had some decent manners. Strange how Rosette, a young woman who seemed to lack them entirely, had taught him to be so polite and curteous.

Speaking of Rosette, the girl was back in the room she shared with her fellow crewmates, and gearing up a bit for a long night. She had to admit she was slightly disgusted with the strange decor around her fellow Mage's bed, but sighed and merely shrugged it off. She seriously doubted she could convince Siduri to try some other way to achieve her privacy.

Lila Kamira came up from the water. As a siren, she knew how to swim through the deep seas, and still have enough energy to climb aboard the ship. She was dripping wet, but she'd dry off quickly. After all, her stuff was due to arrive at the next port and she was on only 3 outfits for the ship's journey to the next port.

She would love to sing, as it was a night of darkness, but Lila feared because she just came out of the water, her voice would not be controlled enough to be harmless. 'Why'd I even come aboard if I have to control myself?' she wondered.

Brakus hummed as he watched the galley begin to empty and he hopped off his stool and moved over to the cauldron and began to remove the fastenings that held the monolith down. Soon enough they were unfastened and he was lugging the great thing behind him into the kitchen once more, were he went with the standard procedures of cleaning the pot. He was in charge of the kitchen, the scully hand cleaned the eating room so he closed the door and got to work clanging and jostling the thing until the service was once again clean.

Brakus breathed a long sigh and tossed the rag he was using into a empty barrel and looked around the wooden room and the array of metal utensils on the wall before he turned for the hatch and made his way up top deck, his pipe already in his mouth and his right hand cramming the bowl with tobacco. Soon, the broad shouldered, gruff figure of Brajus stood on the main deck, his pipe smoking once more and his enormous beard tucked once more into his large leather belt. Soon enough they would make their first stop. Brakus pulled out his pipe and blew a smoke ring out of his mouth as he muttered to himself:

“Then it’ll be time ta get ta doin wat I’m here far.” He put the pipe into his mouth again and his leather boots began to march across the rolling deck, Brakus’ feet more comfortable with the swaying of the boat now.

((Excuse my lengthy absence, and I'm sorry fey, for holding you up so long. Not very captain-like of me was it?))

Captain Zeiser listened intently to the man while he explained himself as a linguist. It was also very obvious that the man was uncomfortable with the sudden formalities he had taken upon himself. That was one thing he disliked about encounters with deckhands. Once they knew him as Captain, they tried to so hard to speak formally. He stopped the man once during their walk. "Please, relax. Speak as you normally would. Your tension is obvious in the way you talk. I don't ask that you try harder to speak formally around me, I only ask that you give respect where it's due. Sir is fine, as well as Captain. I don't require much more than that." Then he nodded. "I suppose your specialty may come in handy once we reach the isle, but that aside you will be required to participate on deck with everyone else, unfortunately. I can't have a laze aboard my ship. Now, is there something you wished to talk to me about specifically?"

ATTENTION:

Everyone, there is a new OOC thread for the Seraphim! We like to talk, but I no like to clutter this thread. Sooo, please take any and all OOC posts to this thread, unless of course it's attached to a roleplay post. Fey had posted a request for different languages as well, which I quoted there. Please look and put in your input!

Thank you!

Amir let out a sigh of relief, but kept his hand behind his back.
“Sir, then. I’m curious whether...” Amir stopped. He shouldn’t get ahead of himself, not before he knew these people. “Curious whether the locals of this assumed Paradise will take kindly to our intrusion.” Amir laughed and then shook off his own question.
“I’ve been traveling my whole life, Captain: I know what I’m doing aboard a ship, though I admit to have never been in one so fine before. I confess, I sought you out more to acquaint myself with the crew and those in charge than anything: you can know how a journey will be just by meeting its travelers, I’ve learned.”
“I suppose I’ll let you get back to your duties, though, Sir, but I’ll be in the men’s quarters if you ever need to know exactly what that rowdy merchant in Rosemile is actually saying to his companions about you.”
Amir excused himself with a bow and left as quickly as he could without seeming rude. I can’t go off like that again! He berated himself, can’t go around asking “Where you DO think this dream continent is? Why is Torsht really interested in it?” I wish there was someone else who wasn’t so damn loyal to their tyrant kings… If there was one thing he hated, then it was blind obedience, next to death and imprisonment. Amir cringed at the memory.
Once he was on deck, Amir looked for a suitable spot and then shimmied deftly up the fore mast until he reached the fore boom. He put a foot carefully on the wood, testing his weight though he needn’t have. All these damn habits, he thought to himself, though more cheerfully than before. The wood held, of course, as he knew it would, so he continued down its length, all the while rummaging through the single pack he’d brought with him. From it he drew a length of tangled ropes, which, after a thoughtful pause, he began to tie around the boom. Dropping from his perch, Amir grabbed the other end of the rope and slung it several times around the main mast before knotting it securely, sure to keep it, for the most part, out of the way of everyone else.
Amir stepped back to admire his handiwork: he now had a place to sleep, though an odd one. His hammock was a good five feet off of the deck, so he pulled the middle down to his waist before plopping into it. The ropes sprung back but held, keeping Amir about two feet from the deck. He’d picked what would hopefully be a low evening traffic zone, and when he awoke in the morning, he could easily check the riggings.
Best of all though, he thought as he leaned back and closed his eyes, I sleep with the stars.

The question sounded restrained, but Zeiser didn't intrude on Amir's personal thoughts. Instead, he listened and answered when the man finished. "First of all, we aren't even positive there will be natives on Peregre. If there are, I can only hope they will encounter us fairly." Though Zeiser had little to attend to at this hour, he nodded, releasing Amir from his presence. "I'll be sure to ask for your presence during times of trade," he replied. "And don't shy from asking me any questions that particularly bother you. My ears are open to all." He watched the linguist take his leave then and Kordul moved himself down to the mess hall. He thought over the question himself, and Zeiser remembered his own motives for coming along so complacently. After all, he lived on the other side of the country from Rishvell. It took a lot of travelling to arrive at the port. He was surprised he had ever made it on time. It'll be a worthy retirement for sure.

When the lights dimmed slightly, Rhiannon felt fear begin to creep into the edge of her consciousness. She wasn't afraid of physical trials, she'd had enough training to hold her own in any battle. It was magic that continued to throw her courage, for she had very little ability in the art. What happened to the lights was not entirely noticeable to anyone not paying attention - she knew that all the men merrily serving up pints of alcohol would never have noticed. The lights on the ship were comprised mostly of magical substance, infused into little balls of clay or even wood. They would not just dim on their own.

She smiled wanely at the girl across from her, barely hearing what she had said. Oh, how she wished for Nerissa to be here... she knew more about magic than most, and she would have known. Still, her dear friend was not aboard the ship yet. Not wanting to alarm Rosette, though she proclaimed herself a mage, Rhi slowly rose from her bench and smoothed out her coat.

"Excuse me, please Lady Rosette. I think I need- I need some air."

She hesitated before turning to the nearest door, taking another glance at the lights. The uneasiness in her stomach intensified. She took her time walking from the mess hall door to the open hatchway. Putting her hands on the thick wooden ladder, she nearly gasped. Nerissa had taught her some things about magic, and some strange... sinister was coursing through the wood, instead of the usual warm emanence of the ship's spells. Something uninvited was on board.

She steadied herself, set her jaw, and placed foot after foot onto the rungs. When her head met the clean air of the sea, any fears were momentarily dissipated. It was a clean, clear night - the sun only a dark bloody red splash on the clouds - soon to be gone. She chided herself for thinking something was wrong - after all, what did she know about magic? She was a warrior tied to politics - not a mage. Still...

The cook had left shortly before her, and was now happily smoking on the deck. The Captain had been speaking to Amir, who was now creating for himself a makeshift hammock off the mast. A young man was heaving over the rail, and the Hertasi she'd seen at dinner was... comforting him.

She didn't feel like talking to any of them.

Looking about briefly, Rhi decided upon a bare crate, covered with a strong mesh of rigging. She sat herself down with as much diginity as she could, wrapping her arms about her chest to ward away the cold creeping in. As she looked about, she found herself staring at one of the orb shaped lights, hanging off the mast. Suddenly, it too dimmed - quite noticeably. She caught her breath in her throat, was it not her imagination? Had someone else seen it? Her breath came harder... and she felt dizzy. Beneath her, the rope and the crate felt like the ladder had - strange and cold. She couldn't stop shivering.

Then she really knew she'd lost her mind. There was no wind to be felt on the deck, but she heard something. A sound like a million hushed voices whispering amongst themselves, low and harsh. The noise seemed the surround her, vibrate in her bones, and she looked frantically around. Surely someone else could hear this? The voices intensified, but she couldn't tell what any of them were saying... it all just melded into one mass of whispers and words. If they were saying anything, it certainly wasn't in a langauge she knew. Or maybe any words were drowned out by the heavy beat of her own heart.

((Muahahaha! Yes, everyone on the ship can hear them, and yes it is in a different lanuage. Or if you rather, many many languages. Fey - Amir can probably understand some snatches of things, but it won't make any sense - yet. I'm working on this particular event independently, so no one on the ship has much to do with it. twisted What could it beeeee???))

As if on cue both Rosette and Chrono, though in different locations, quickly noticed the suddel change in their ship enviroment. True to Rhiannon's thoughts, it seemed anything but comfortable and welcoming. Almost like walking into an ancient house who's owners had recently died. It sent shivers up Rosette's spine just thikning about it.

"Did you see that?" Cjrono asked Gestan as he watched the lights dim. He jumped in alarm as the suddel, muttering voices nearly boomed above the roaring waves. "What in the world...?!"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:48 pm

He looked up when he saw the lights starting to dim. He smirk grew on his face as the voices began. This would be perfect for him since all he had to do was write a couple of messages in 'blood' on some of the walls and the sailors would go completely nuts and would probably get off the Seraphim at the next port. And with no deckhands, the ship can't operate and they would have to stop the voyage. So with a smile on his face, he made his way to some of the rooms and started to write on the walls.

Amir bolted upright, nearly falling out of his hammock.
"What the--" he muttered, listening intently... voices, everywhere, all speaking intently at once. He recognized a word here, there, nothing! What was this?
Amir whipped his head around, trying desperately to figure out where the sounds were coming from, still attempting to understand what was being said. It was so frustrating! He knew this language, or knew something like it, but what was it called? He balled up his fists and put them on his temples, the pressure on his head serving to focus.
He couldn't make sense of anything, but it reminded him of someone, something... He'd travelled so many places with so many people, it was hard to differentiate them all... and then they stopped.
Amir released his head and looked around, but his thoughts were elsewhere. He hand reflexively went to the scrolls, but they were both still there.
He hopped down from his perch. At the sight of a well dressed but obviously distressed woman on a crate, Amir made his way shakily to her.
"Are you alright, milady?" He asked kindly, glancing around. Others had heard it too, he knew it, but did anyone understand?

"Siren shrieking and others, what the hell is happening aboard the ship?" Lila proclaimed. The voices, they were swarming, but the waters protected her. The lights were dimming and she knew something definitely was wrong. She whipped her around and saw a distressed woman and a young man.

"What's happening?" she asked. "I can tell there are random siren words, but everything else is so foreign." She shivered at the voices and the pulses of energy they had put into her mind.

Zeiser had just decided on a meal when the voices came through his mind. Before he bothered to ask anyone if they heard it, though, many other deckhands were moving about, befuddled as to the reason or source of the voices. Apparently everyone heard them. "To the deck," he commanded firmly, yet in a quiet tone. "Get everyone to the main deck. Drag the sleepers if you have to, but I want everyone up there. We'll figure it out after that." Then he moved quickly ahead of everyone else. Once in the fresh air, he noticed the dimmer setting of the ship. Something was not right. Shouting for the first time, he called, "I want all those hired for their magical backgrounds brought to me in the next five minutes! Spread the word!"
