One thing really needs to be said here, honestly. The name is just too close to "Edward Elric" from FMA. Not to mention his appearance/avatar are really obviously like Ed.
Early on, someone had a character whose name was completely ripped from an anime, and the staff made them change it. I have no doubts that 'Edward Elswick' would also count as being obviously yoinked.

The problem isn't his last name, it's his first name and apperance that needs changing.

There's also the issue of his appearance. It's just not cool to base a character's appearance on someone from an anime.
And personally, I'd keep the last name and change the first name.
