Whats rof? and according to page 10 of Codex Space Marines, Heavy bolters only cost five points. (tact squad, not scouts)

Um yeah but on the VDR they cost a lot more while bolters cost like about 1-2 points each. RoF is rate of Fire

The Rate of fire for a single heavy bolter vs a single bolter is better. But enmass. Check out the GW website. Should be there.

That is exactly what I'm refering to. 10 HB's 150 points thus 30 shots
for the same you could get 75 bolters and thats between 75 and 150 shots.

BTW do the VDR's allow you to change existing models for a certain amount more points? like could i stick a lascannon on the shoulder of a dreadnought?

Yes they do. They even allow you to generate up rhinos and the such.... But the points cost is noticably greater.
