How many concepts did I go through before I figured out Awen? Well for starters I was thinking about Kailius, one of my old characters, and adapting him for the island. I remember he was either going to be some form of hawk, raven or rose. Then I was working up a concept for a new character, s/he was going to be a snake, but I couldn't decide whether to make it male or female. i thought not many people would want to go for a snake. It seems that I was wrong. And boy how was I wrong.

That was when I decided to go and look for an aquatic creature. I thought of a shark, but that I thought, was too common/popular. I was looking into a strange species of dolphin, but didn't find anything I liked. It was then I remembered an old anthro artist I used to ((and I suppose still do)) really like. She always drew a lot o whale characters, and I thought: what better! But I didn't want an orca, or a balouga, or something that anyone would think of, I wanted something unique, different....

I searched for three hours, going through various websites looking for different species of whale. It was long and hard and honestly I wasn't getting anywhere. Disheartened I desided to click on one last link. It was in that link that something besides a whale loaded in my plain view. The picture was of a manta ray caught in a net. As it jumped at me I just thought: Perfect! It's different, it's unique, and I doubted that anyone else would think of it. ((most of the people I knew were going for more traditional animals)) I jumped at the opportunity. I thought it would be funny to add hydrophobia to the character, making it that much more interesting. With the hydrophobia it just made more sense to make it a girl. I don't know why but it just felt right to me.
And that my friends is how Awen was born.

Gosh I remember when Lauren had a crush on Awen. XD It was so cute! She had left the manta girl some flowers, but the lab techs moved it inside when they went in to remove Awen's IV. So mistakenly Awen thought the flowers were from Sabin! This has to be the cutest picture of Lauren I have ever seen, even though it is just a little site spot in the corner <3  9

Mmm another one of those precious moments. Me and Poufy cooked this plan up over AIM. Sabin needed new clothes, and who else would Awen turn to but Avery, the only one she trusted with that little secret XD So as if Sabin in Avery's clothes weren't enough.... It had just so happened to be Avery's laundry day.... and he only had one shirt left....  12

Fora long long time I didn'tr even know this existed until I cruised the fanart gallery one day. I was very happy and surprised! Awen really doesn't get enough artwork XD  14
