I don't have a webcam to take pics of my guitar, but here's a pic of it from the ESP site: It was $200, and don't ask me about tone or anything like that, 'cause I'm a guitar newb (and no, I didn't start playing to pick up chicks or to look cool, and I hate most mainstream music of today). It's better than the Squier that I had though. Anyone played this guitar? How does it measure up to other guitars in the same price range?

Ive read alot of reviews about all different levels of ESPs, and from what ive seen its all good smile

What are the differences between pickups?

What are the differences between pickups? they pick up different tones, so some people prefer dimarzio's, because it gives them the sound they want from their guitar. some people prefer duncan pickups because they like the sound of those. im not too sure on the difference between humbuckers and single coil though. i've never been told the difference.

If you want the watered down answer, in general, single-coils tend to be hotter and more high-end, and also tend to make noise at high volumes. Humbuckers are much richer and deeper, and more crunchy when distorted. the double-coils are set at opposit poles so that they cancel out the hum of each other (hence HUMbucker), and it also gives them that extra fat-bottomed tone.

Arcarsenal Ghost So humbuckers would be more suited for blues? Not to act as a pickup expert here, answering all these questions, but: It all depends on your personal tastes. I know your all tired of hearing this, and so am i, but i too have come to realize its all in what you want to hear, and it takes practice to get the tone you want. Also, alot of your sound comes from how you play, not what you play through. HOWEVER: In general (i love that term i guess), if you want fat bottomed, trudging, rough blues, go with humbuckers, as such is put in guitars like the gibson ES (Like Lucille). It gives you that extra growl without the high end bit of single coils, and also sounds a bit deeper and more soulful Single coils however, can also be use for blues. I use single coils for the blues (i'll use usually a Telecaster, personal preferance). Single coils i believe are more suited for Texas blues, that is, stuff like Winter or SRV, or even clapton and Hendrix. It allows a great ghigher pitched range, and allows you to have that extra bite for squeeling (but still soulful) solos. They have a great twangyness (Tele's do anyway) and tone for the blues, but they dont really have much growl, and often sound pretty muddy if you turn the tone nob down and crank the bass too much. All in all, if you want low, growling blues such as B.B. King, use humbuckers. If you want a more squeelin' high flyin' or great-for-wah-wah tone, use single coils. *deep breath*
