I don't think I've ever met a truly sane sax player....

Our new bari (though he still counts as an alto because he hasn't quite gotten the hang of his new baby) is relatively sane. Except for the Tourette-like falsetto yells of "Quiet! Quiet!" when we get too loud. He kind of sounds like a duck...o.O He does apologize afterwards, though.

Aw God, I love him. heart

But I think as a whole, saxes are the weirdest section. 3nodding I don't think I've ever met a truly sane sax player....

alto saxes are DEFINITELY the least sane section in our band sweatdrop but thats what makes sectionals so much fun! 3nodding

XD Oh man... we had a wind ensemble sax sectional earlier in the year... it was four altos and two tenors (the bari player was working with the trombones). We hardly got ANYTHING done. Me, the other tenor, and two of the altos are all juniors, and we all started reminicing about freshman year while the other two altos (a sophomore and a freshman) decided we were crazy. xp It was so much fun. The thing is, we can get away with screwing around during sectionals because we're all good players, so our BD can't really tell we didn't do anything.

Hello fellow saxes! biggrin I've been having this thought in the back of my mind, started by one of my friends in band.

He said:
"Padguards are bad for your sax."

Now is this true? or is he just making it up to sound smart?

BTW: I play alto

we have 13 altos and 7(?) tenors and we're all crazy! blaugh we're all good players too so we end up breaking for like half an hour. we just hang out in the halls and do lots of stupid stuff like having fights with superballs.. climbing on the lockers.. making faces in the windows of the other sections practicing... they don't let us in the building anymore during breaks xd

Wow... you must have a big band! Between the two bands, we've got six altos and four tenors, and that's only for pep band 'cause some kids double - it changes to four altos and three tenors for concert band.

That sectional sounds like so much fun, though! We're stuck in the practice room the whole time... but at least we get the big one! (We're the second biggest section in the wind ensemble after the flutes... and they usually go practice in the choir room.)

I played concert music on my sax the other day 'cause I was too lazy to switch over to my flute (we'd been playing pep band music) and 'cause the other tenor player wanted me to. It was fun - I don't normally do concert music on sax, I do pep and jazz on sax. I swear the other tenor wants me to switch to tenor full time... which I wouldn't have a problem with, but I plan to go professional on flute, so I need to stay in practice with that. 3nodding

Our two bands have 4 altos, 2 tenors, 2 baris (though one's from the middle school sweatdrop ). For marching band (which had two more altos), two of the original 4 never showed up so the remaining 4 always sat in the instrument room talking about our lives and asking our leader (the only guy) all kinds of s**t about what perfume guys like and such...and then there's me hitting things with the flags in the background and making them all go nuts! It's just so much fun, we're so good that we spent 45 minutes out of each sectional hour just sitting there. The director even gave us a Best Section award. Too bad he didn't know about all the work we didn't do xp

SS-what exactly is a padguard? I'm sure I've seen them, I just don't know what they are.

XDD So am I. Part of the reason I started learning sax. XD Well, not QUITE... he was the reason I wanted to join jazz band, and because I wanted to join jazz band, my BD had me learn sax.

Welcome to my life 3nodding The good part is, after awhile you find things about them that aren't so pleasant, so you stop liking them so much. Like how mine is a drug user. Pah.

heh, I play the alto sax. I played tenor for a year when I started, but I switched to alto because I had a traumatic experience when the lower keys wouldn't cover the holes all the way during a concert, so I couldn't play my magnificent solo! stressed gonk so then I switched to alto, but I haven't played in any groups with it for a while, I just play it at home. My main instrument is clarinet, but I'm still a saxaphonist all the way smile

yeah our band is pretty big, we have about 120 people including the drumline. i think alto saxes might be the biggest section, its either us, trumpets, or clarinets. but i still can't beleive i'm the only freshman in my whole section eek

Wow... we only have 65-70 people between two bands. Flutes is the biggest section overall... then clarinets and trumpets... then saxes. But in just my band (wind ensemble), saxes are second biggest.
