Cool. I'll try to remake that picture I had before perhaps, I lost it...heh. That's fine then. Since that's taken care of, I just want to once again compliment the exemplary condition of this guild. i recently quit my old Harry Potter guild because it was to...strict. It's like they had sticks up their collective bungholes. The HP sub-forum is much more fun.

Yeah, I was busy for a few weeks back there, and now I'm not. But don't worry Kurikins, we won't PM you demanding for posts. 4laugh I'm going to Tennessee tomorrow, actually, and then the week of the twelfth (THE WEEK HARRY POTTER #6 COMES OUT!!! SQUEE!) I'll be in Pennsylvania, lacking connection, so apprehensive apologies.

But after that week, i'm free alllll summer! w00t.

Anyways, can't wait to see those new ideas you've been talking about, good luck with the whole unpacking things, I've moved several times and it's not much fun, is it? neutral Awesome! We can start RPing again! I posted last, so I guess I'm waiting for Sryne or you or whomever to post.

Kurikins, with regard to the new announcement I believe that there will be one consequence that is... well... I'm not sure whether it would be a relief or a let-down actually. The entire 'Group of Destiny' thread has been sitting there completely inactive for quite awhile. I wanted it to continue but I have not seen either Etain or Isis for a long time. I haven't seen Amarene around either. It seems that I am the only one out of that group that has been getting online and checking the guild.

Yes, I've noticed that a great majority of TSW's members spend most of their time being absent, which is why I am so keen on getting some activity going again. I'm sorry you've been sitting there all by yourself, I had no idea your group had completely disappeared. I will send them all PM notices, and the ones that don't reply will be the ones I remove.

What may end up happening is all the remaining members are put into one or two groups (depending on how many are left) and then doing a bit of a "time-leap" so that everyone can start together on a new storyline. Stuff that's been happening in the groups up until that point will be put a few weeks in the past. That way everybody can kind of sync up and we can get on with the adventure. smile

Also, you should know that I'm currently searching Gaia for new members to invite into the guild. Hopefully my efforts will be successful and we can get some fresh blood in here.

EDIT - OK, I've sent out messages to all of the guild's inactive members. I've given each of them 48 hours to respond to my PM or they'll be removed, so we should have the inactivity problem mostly solved by the beginning of next week. biggrin Then we can move on with the RPG from there.

Interesting announcement. Even though I'm personally dissappointed on the part of vampires, I'm fine with it. I know I haven't been keeping up with it exactly. I'll be sure to focus more on it when we restart.

Though this will help me understand a style of vampires that isn't used much anymore. Since in most rpgs vampires do have lives, emotional complexities and all that other human mumble jumble.

The only problem I see is that the importance of my character's role isn't much. Seeing as she is just out to feed basically. Making her more of a nusiance to other characters than anything else. Making it hard to plan her actions and motives if they are to just feed on other characters. While those characters who are being attacked by her will just have to constantly face up against this vampire who just won't leave them alone. Though realistically as strong and fast as vampires are few to any characters should survive the encounter of a vampire if it's purpose was just to kill and feed. Which would kinda ruin the rpg, if they didn't have some alternative motive. Especially if they get attacked by a older vampire.



A few suggestions though if you don't mind.

As you state you weren't expecting much enthusiasm for vampires. (probably mainly from me.) Since age and the abilities of a vampire greatly effects it's performance. Maybe you should have some chart. My younger brother was able to find out that there are more than 20 abilities/powers a vampire could have. So people come here will have different ideas of what a vampire can and can not do. (If you like I'll send you the list if you like)

Also as you said, the older a vampire gets the stronger (and faster) it becomes. As well as it being more resistant to it's weaknesses and being more incontrol of it's incredible bloodlust. So having a timeline stating how stronger and fast a vampire is by a certain age; how well resistant they are to there weaknesses at that age; and how much control over themselves they are at that age. Something like this wold greatly help in the development of vampires. Since no one wants to cross that line of god modding, but niether do they want thier character to be an easy kill for a mere human/elf/anthro.

I would suggest doing the time like in maybe sets of 50 years. But first start out with like the first week, the first month, 3 months later, 6 months later, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc. IF there is some kinda progress during those times.


That's just my suggestion.

@Angelina - I understand where you're coming from with your suggestion, but the problem is that if I put up a chart like that, no one would choose a vampire who was young. They would all want vampires who were older and had better abilities. I know this because when I gave you the choice of making Kal-jinn 200 or 250, you chose 250 because I had told you in an earlier PM that vampires that were 250 years or older had a better resistance to sunlight. You went for power instead of realism, when in reality if a vampire can walk in the daylight for fifteen minutes really doesn't make that much of a difference in this RPG. You could have easily only brought him out at night, or used sewers and houses to shield your character from the sun. Because of this, my only statement is going to be that vampires become slightly stronger and faster as they age. How the roleplayer interprets that information is what's going to set them apart as either a drooling n00blet or a savvy roleplayer.

As for powers -- I will make it clear here and now.

Enhanced Abilities:
Strength
Speed
Eyesight
Smell
Hearing

These abilities are all only enhanced when the vampires is either underground, prowling at night, temporarily imbued with dark magic, or in a temple of the dark god Kelhath. During the daytime these abilities drop so significantly that a small child could outmanuever them. The vampire's inherent abilities become slightly more honed and advanced as they age. Vampires are also extremely weak against white magic, especially when it is being cast by clerics of Lyl.

That's as complex as it gets. TSW is not about vampires, just like it's not about humans or elves. Neither of those races really have much in the way of shiny powers, so I don't see why vampires should either.

My personal views on vampires aren't far from Kuri's description. Pretty much just blood thirsty, tricky beings. Although I also think they are very violent and do evil things just because they are evil... Everyones views on vampires are different based on where they are most familiar with vampires. Whether it's from reading a specific book series that shows vmapires as beautiful, smart, intelligent creatures who seduce their prey and then feed on them |or| whether they could play a game as a vampire slayer so they see vampires as disgusting, stupid, evil creatures who have to die. Nobodies views are exactly the same on MYTHOLOGICAL creatures, purely because they are not real, they are a myth, and they are what your imagination makes of them.

A thought for Angelina on motives: keep the portal between the First and Second world open so that there are more people to feed on..... Just a thought.

Were exactly do we declare our characters' intentions?

My "lead" (Jafiel) doesn't know that any portal exists yet, and the others are somewhat indifferent, and either don't care or feel as if nothing can be done about it.

On vampires and their habits: Vampires are, by definition humanoid, undead monsters that drain blood or whatever from their prey, but shouldn't the vampires in this RP carry along some vestiges of their humanity? Wouldn't their be some conflict between their base, primal desire to kill and feed, and what's left of who they were before?

Also, how "stylized" should someone's abilities be? I'm not suggesting that we fly around and destroy large portions of rock with our fists and assorted multi-colored energy beams, but this is a fantasy RP. How far are we to stray from realism in that area?

On vampires - I've made my thoughts on the matter clear. I don't see any need to discuss it further.

On abilities - Hm. That's a tricky question.. For the most part, though, I would prefer it if abilities stayed as close to reality as possible. If you have enhanced strength, for example, and you shove your fist into a stone wall there should be a moderately sized dent where the impact was. But it shouldn't bring the whole building down. (Unless it's a really cruddy, shack-like building made from toothpicks)
