I wish I really did have that doll....it'd make life less bland.

Oh and for the record, I'd whore myself to Genki Sudo for both training in fighting as well as dancing.

Actually I have a very modest questions. I haven't done much in the ways of reading up on martial arts. I know there are martial arts magazines out there. What would people recommend?

I've heard good things about black belt magazine. But I'm in the same boat as you, I know nothing about them, and I've never ever read/seen one either.

If you're into MMA go with Bodyguard. I think that's the name. But Black Belt and inside kung fu have had some ******** up articles about MMA and grappling, mainly like personal opinion articles. but still that turned me off from it..

I bought Black Belt magazine once...
And only once.
It seems this magazine is more bent on the commercial side of the martial arts...
They don't hesitate promoting Bullshido material and McDojo's.
It's a disgrace.

Ugh I will keep that in mind then.

I haven't been very big on reading up on any kind of martial arts, though I really should.

I would suggest limiting yourself to the books of the actual masters and books by highly influential martial artists.
I don't care what dan or rank they are, or say they are, the masters are the ones that will give you the proper teachings.
You can always get books by others, but I believe they can only simplify the basics of techniques and philosophies. That and give some tips and pointers and maybe share their personal insights.

But start with books written by the masters.
Best aikido - the fundamentals is a good, recent book by Moritery Ueshiba on aikido.

Also, if you're into judo, Stalin published a book on judo too. whee
Though I'm sticking with my copy of "The Canon of Judo" 3nodding heart

I need to get me some decent reading materiel. Speaking of which I read the book of five rings for the first time recently, and regarding that post where you criticized lunaries sword grip in the MAC, in that book Miyamoto recommends that the sword should be held one handed, and more so that for practise you should use a heavy sword in each hand. What are your views on that?

Well, that's the niten style.
Meaning the wielder utilises his katana along with his waki-zashi.
Or in more ancient times, the tachi along with the kodachi.
Miyamoto's opinion on wielding the sword in one hand is based on the fact that warriors would train with two hands, then go to battle making use of shields, therefor having only one hand to use the sword with and being less proficient than they could be.

It's a different thing, really.
As you know, Miyamoto is most famous for starting a school that made use of both swords. Traditionally, one would wield a single sword at a time, making use of both hands on a katana or a single hand with a waki-zashi.

Fact remains that in katori shinto ryu, the hands are placed in traditional manner.
