Scarlette's crimson eyes blinked at the man in front of her, her head takign a small tilt to the irght. "Shall we what?" She questioned, her lashes delicately tapping against her creamy cheeks as she continued to blink with a bit of confusion to the man.

{Flynn, in case you're wondering - the post directed to you is on the previous page.}
"Shall we away to the barracks. They're only a trip down the road and away." the bard stated, taking his turn to look mildly confused, "You did accept my offer of escort, did you not? Then let us away! The barracks await."
"Yer will be coming back, righ' 'Elden?" the bartender enquired, looking quite worried.
"Yes, yes." was the bards reply, waving a hand dismissively to the rather round man.

Scarlette blinked at the man, turning her attention to the small boy in her arms and having her grip tighten just a bit. "Wait..." she protested, still slipping from the stool and resting him on her hip. He really was a small boy and easy enough to carry. "What will they do with him there?" She asked, concern plauging her normally unreadable features.

"Nothing!" was the bard's happy reply, "S'long as you stay near Elizabeth and whatever understudy she should have by now no one can touch you. At least, that's what it used to be like. It might have changed. If that's the case then stick by me and no one can so much as breathe on you.
"Things can change quickly. I've lost many a friend in less than a week, people can disappear in even less the time. However, I am quite sure that she is alive and well, I recieved a letter from her the other day telling of her promotion and seeking my advice on.. Something that I can't really discuss in public. She is alive and well and should be resting at this point in time. She is usually off patrol by the time the sun glows orange and begins to hide itself behind the walls and trees."

Scarlette peered at the child in her arms and slowly turned her eyes to the quite long-winded man. She nodded. "Alright... As long as he will be happy there." She stated in almost a whisper. She gave a weak smile, continuing to peer up at the man in front of her. She reallly was acting more like the boy's father versus just some random woman who picked him up. Whether it was by instinct or just by experience of being a mother, she would never tell.

"Well if he is happy with you here and now, he'll be happy there. No one is taking him away from you, miss DuVall, I assure you." the bard explained with a short bow, "Now, please. The sun will soon be disappearing - it is not at all wise to go venturing out in the dark. Especially in these parts of the city. People disappear in the darkness."

Scarlette nodded to his words, her hold on the boy tighetning just slightly. "Alright, Mister Elden, lead the way." She said, giving a small bow of her head to hte bard and waiting for him to do as she suggested, leadin gthe way. She gave a weak and brief smile, crimson eyes lifting up to peer into his before she slowly turned them to the door, trying to regain her small composure and not smile so much. She really was not used to having smiled. Or at least not in a long time and not to someone she has really not ever known for long. She normally only smiled in the privacey with ones she loved.

Rachael followed more cautiously after the man laden with medical supplies. It was always a good idea to hang back where there were doctors involved.
It was soon plainly evident, though, where he had been heading when a female voice cried out in pain, and was quickly stifled. Rachael did not hurry. The knight had been injured, so nothing here seemed unusual.
Her intention had been to loiter outside the door until the medic was finished, so she could enter and deposit her gear without getting in the way, but as she reached the door a man within spoke: "She's been cursed -- don't expect her to survive."
She's been cursed... Rachael's brow furrowed as she tried to understand this. Cursed? What curse counted for anyting? Curses were village superstitions, surely?
Don't expect her to survive. The men came stumbling out, passing Rachael who was standing by the door, her head down, numbed by confusion and shock. Once they were all out, she went to scuttle inside. And saw Elizabeth.
Very slowly she turned, drawing herself up to her almost comically short full height, indignant fury sparkling in her eyes.
"How does a curse stop you from doing anything?" she demanded of their retreating backs. "Even if you don't know how to cure it, how does that stop you from at least bringing some comfort to her? Why does that mean you can leave her, like that, suffering and dying alone?" She was almost shrieking now -- "You filth! How can you have so little respect for another person? You-- you--" she ran out of steam.
Taking a deep breath, and in a clamer tone, she went on. "Surely there is something that can be done. An ailment of magic must be able to be cured by the same. Tell me where to look, and I shall find some way."

One of the men paused and confronted Rachael from his position halfway down the hall. "Do we look like magicians and magicmakers? Fool. You'd do well to take the surgeon's advice and leave well alone - 'lest you catch the curse yourself. He's a respectable man and we all take his word the first time round." he almost growled as he spoke, his voice low like a cart running through gravel.
At this point, due to the shouting from Rachael's throat, the servant boy was awake once more. He turned his head to watch the scene slowly fade, the soldier moving once again down the hall and disappearing into one of the many rooms. Within half a minute the barracks was back to the same, men betting their wages for new boots and others just getting drunk in the far mess hall.
---
The bard was soon guiding the woman along the darkenning streets. His walk was brisk, too brisk for anyone else with even slightly shorter legs to find it enjoyable. Of course, his long legs made his walk even quicker. Within five minutes they found themselves aproaching the long and low building with its single guard standing half asleep outisde.
The guard didn't seem to do much as the bard opened the door with such confidence, it appeared as if he didn't even look up or notice them at all. Neither did anyone inside notice either the door opening nor the chill wind now coming in.

Scarlette silently followed the bard. Her arms wrapped around the young boy as she was being sure to not lose him nor let him fall. He did not weigh all too much so it was not bad to be carrying him. She did hope that where Elden was taking them would be good for the boy in her arms. She took a step into the building and peered around before her eyes titled up to the man beside her. "what now?" she asked ever so confidently in her tone, her crimson eyes never leaving his as she waited for an answer.

Rachael stood for a long moment there outside the room, stunned, both by what she had said and by what had been shouted back at her. Where magic had been done so casually earlier that day, it was now evident that it was still amost as mystic to these men of war as it was to her. As she stared down the corridor from which the men were now well and truly gone, tears began to roll silently down her face. Starting to sob, she wheeled and ran into the room. Hiccoughing through her tears, she threw down her gear, and began, with numb fingers, to do her best to return the b*****d knight to some semblance of decency and comfort. She dabbed at the knight's face with her still-damp shirt as she did her best to dress her, carefully avoiding toching the darkened flesh of the cursed wound.

{Yaaaay!}
Elizabeth shut her eyes against the dampened shirt as the youngster set about tending to her. She wasn't aware of what was happening to her really, not now at least. The tray that the surgeon had carried in had been left on the floor near the foot of the bed, the cup that had once contained the mossy drink now empty with only some of the residue left at the bottom and clinging to the sides.
Her shoulders and arms were suprisingly well-muscled and she didn't seem so close to death than her weight would suggest - although the first signs of starvation were beginning to show through.
---
"Follow me. And stay relatively close." the bard murmured before heading down the coridoor, flicking a small and almost wothless copper coin to the servant boy who was struggling to stay awake.

The presence of the surgeon's finally registered in her mind. There were bandages and dressings there, she took advantage of these, nervously and inexpertly covering over the wound. That done, she finished tidying the knight's shirt, and pulled the bedclothes up over her ribs, tucking them in tight, but leaving her arms free. She crouched by the bed, continuing to dab at the knight's face with the damp shirt.
"There's got to be something more I can do," she murmured softly. "There's always something..."

Scarlette took a few larger steps to be sure she was right behind the man. Her slender hand resting at the back of hte small boy to be sure he was still there. Her eyes continued to wander frmo the bard and to their surroundings and somehow always ending up to remain on the man in front of her. She sighed softly, shoulders drooping just slightly - she really has been deprived of love.
