I hate Sumi and Miga, and I hate their cutesy names. I hate that they are abominations, mixtures of several different animals
I like Quatchi, though. They should have just stuck with him, I would have been a lot more cool with that. He is really adorable, and right up my street. I'd like to have a Quatchi doll, but they are so expensive.
But I also have a problem with the Vancouver Inukshuk logo. I mean, I adore Inukshuks, however to say that it represents all of Canada is a farce. It is a northern symbol, it is not throughout Canada shared.
Some people think that if you were to use a native symbol for the Vancouver Olympics it would have made more sense to have something traditional to the local natives, like the Haida for example. But then the argument against that was "The Olympics is a Nationwide hosted event." Bullshit, Nova Scotia isn't paying for it. Saskatchewan (the invisible province, per my theory) doesn't pay for it. And the Federal government kicked in only a minor amount of money considering the total cost. It is Vancouver and the Lower Mainland paying for the Olympics, and the tax payers of BC footing the bill, those poor bastards in Salmon Arm to Vanderhoof paying for this trash. I enjoyed the bumper stickers out at the time of the bid "Health Care before Olympics"
Considering our shitty shitty shitty Provincial government in the form of that horrible person
Mr. Gordon Campbell
Right around the time of the bid (before, during, and after) there was all that controversy where they were shutting down rural nursing homes, and
separating elderly couples! People who have lived together for
60 years, and moving them to
different towns. Things like that didn't just happen once or twice, either. Where is the humanity? Where is the compassion? It's just one of many examples of the selfishness of Gordon Campbell and his ilk, wanting to have a legacy, their fugging claim to fame.
It took Montreal 30 years to pay off their hosting of the Olympics in 1976 (the "O" Stadium is also a crumbling useless mess already), and Vancouver has already far surpassed their spending (adjusting for inflation) Thanks, really, thanks a lot. The next unborn generation is going to be paying for these 4 weeks of 'fun & games' ********
