The stranger defeats King cold with ease and then Cold's ship. He then tells the others to come join him at a location where Goku is said to return. After some cold drinks and some conversation, Goku does indeed arrive back just as the stranger said that he would.

The mysterious guy talks with Goku in private and after some trust demonstrations were passed, the stranger introduces himself as Trunks, the son of Bulma and Vegeta. Trunks also tells Goku that on the morning of May 12, 9 miles west of south city at 9 AM, two deadly androids are going to attack, which Gohan is supposed to be the only survivor. Goku is supposed to catch a deadly heart virus that kills him unless he takes the medicine that Trunks gives him when he gets sick. The others decide they are going to go train and prepare for the upcoming battle.

Everyone agreed to meet at the battle site on May 12, three years from the day that this episode took place. Krillin and Yamcha decided to train with Roshi, Piccolo and Goku trained Gohan, Vegeta trained in a gravity chamber, and Tien and Chiaotzu decided to train in the wilderness someplace.

Vegeta tries to do too much too fast and ends up hurt, but Bulma having fallen for the Saiyan prince takes care of him the best she can and of course Vegeta doesn't want to admit that sometimes he needs help. Meanwhile Piccolo, Gohan, and Goku have fun with their training and they take care of it like they should. Yamcha tried to do what Vegeta did with the gravity, but soon realized that it was too much for him and began to appreciate what level of training Vegeta goes through.

After being chased by a wild boar with groceries in her arms, Chichi demands that Goku and Piccolo get their driver's liscences. After many tries, Goku finally gets it right, but not on screen. A time skip happens and now our heroes are on their way to meet with the androids.

Just as Trunks predicted 2 killer androids are on the loose 9 miles southwest of South city and Yajirobe's car was the first to meet its doom. Gohan saves Yajirobe, but next to fall victim to the androids out of our heroes was Yamcha.

After the androids kill innocent people, Goku leads them away from the city and to an area with a lot of cliffs and places to hide. The heart virus begins attacking Goku, but nobody except for Tien realizes that Goku is beginning to fall ill.

The virus is taking its toll on Goku as Goku fights Android 19. The others look on in horror as realization sets in. This cannot be the end of Goku or is it?

Vegeta rescues Goku from having his energy drained completely claiming that "Kakkorot's death must come by my hand". Then Yamcha takes Goku to get the antidote while Vegeta demonstrates that now he too has become a super saiyan. Explaining himself, Vegeta then begins the battle with android 19.

Vegeta easily defeats android 19, but bluffs when he acts eager to fight 20. 20 begins running and when Vegeta asks for a senzu bean, Krillin reluctantly gives him one. They all then chase Vegeta and 20 to try and defeat 20, but so far are unable to find him.

20 grabs Piccolo, but thanks to a telepathic message to Gohan, everyone including Gohan saves Piccolo's green butt. Future Trunks returns to the past and finds that 19 and 20 are not the androids that he fought in the future. So, this battle, although important was not the one that our heroes should have prepared for.

When Trunks explains who the androids he was fighting looked like, Bulma and Yajirobe arrive on the scene just as 20 aka Dr. Gero was making his escape. Of course, Future Trunks saved Bulma and the baby while Vegeta could care less about them. Then, learning from Bulma the whereabouts of Gero's lab, Krillin, Piccolo, and Tien go in search of it to prevent the activation of the androids of the future. Gohan is going to take Bulma, the baby, and Yajirobe home. Vegeta and Future Trunks are ahead of Piccolo's group with Vegeta having an ego fit.

Gero makes it to the lab first, then Krillin, then the others. Gero activates 17 and 18. 17 destroys the shut off device so now they cannot be deactivated. Vegeta blasts the lab door down and its a staring contest.

18 awakens 16, which 16 only responds to commands that relate to his main objective that is Goku. 17, 18, and 16 all take off towards Goku's place with the others in hot pursuit. Gohan, Yajirobe, Bulma, and the baby have stopped for a little diaper change. Yajirobe is in charge of washing the dirty diaper in the river. Gohan misses his dad though. Vegeta catches up with the androids where 16 refuses to fight. 18 steps up and accepts Vegeta's arrogant request.

Vegeta and 18 fight before the others arrive. When the others did arrive, 17 made Vegeta a deal. If the others stepped in to assist in the fight, 17 would be forced to step in. Vegeta agreed. But apparently, after seeing Vegeta's arm dislocate, Future Trunks could take no more and jumped in to help.
