Just saw Inland Empire. No coherent thoughts yet, but I am most impressed.

Early reviews of Stardust are very, very positive. Could we have the next Princess bride here?

I should warn that that is a creepy-looking (not to mention -sounding) trailer...
So why are you looking forward to it?
For me, I'm looking forward to Shrek 3. The critics rubbished it, but I rarely agree with critics anyhow. I liked the first two, so I'm looking forward to an hour and a half of amusing one-liners, parodies and general mick-taking of fairy tale norms.
It is probably inevitable that I will watch Transformers, even if they have changed Bumblebee into a concept Camaro. I loved the animated movie, although I won't pretend to know anything else about them. I'm still smarting that Frank Welker isn't playing Megatron. I don't care if Hugo Weaving has kudos; the original voice guy isn't dead yet and so should be playing him.
Other than that, not a lot. I'm sure there was another movie I wanted to see this summer, but can't remember. A friend of mine is taking me to Die Hard 4 at some point - it has to be done, as it is an action flick where helicopters doubtless blow up and pithy one-liners are thrown...

Shrek 3? Judging by the way it's already being panned, I shall probably thoroughly enjoy it!
The Transformers film is a subject rather close to my heart, as I've been following its gestation for nearly three years now. I've gone from love, to hate, back to love again, through complete apathy and now to cautious optimism.
Quite why they didn't choose Welker to reprise his role as Megatron, I have no idea, especially as he *does* have that role in the accompanying game! A rumour also has it that he will be playing Ironhide in the movie, with Weaving as Megs. Very odd.
I shall watch, and probably enjoy, but also probably grumble and whine about it not being quite as good as it could have been. And nobody is ever going to convince me that Optimus Prime needed to be covered in flame decals. razz
The original animated movie still has a warm home with me, despite it's many faults.

Vulpinity I shall watch, and probably enjoy, but also probably grumble and whine about it not being quite as good as it could have been. And nobody is ever going to convince me that Optimus Prime needed to be covered in flame decals. razz Flame decals? What were they thinking??? Vulpinity The original animated movie still has a warm home with me, despite it's many faults. You mean things like Starscream's seemingly multiple deaths? The fact that they kill off many much-loved characters in order to introduce a new series and a new toy line? Wheelie? "You get ship if I get trip." Kill him now! Come on, Grimlock, you know you want to! Still, there are many quoteable quotes. Even my Dad knows the Universal Greeting smile And I do love the soundtrack. There's nothing quite like driving up the motorway, blasting out "Dare" or "The Touch". The trick is not to air guitar or head bang while driving wink Also, one can play spot the famous guest stars (Leonard Nimoy, Orson Welles, Eric Idle), as well as spot the voice actor regulars (Frank Welker, Peter Cullen, Jack Angel). As for the new movie, I imagine Frank Welker will be doing half the additional voices, he usually does. He crops up in the most bizarre places - like "Charles the Dog" in Space Jam... DW PS if this doesn't lure back Samwise to post here, nothing will wink

Warnersister I should warn that that is a creepy-looking (not to mention -sounding) trailer... So why are you looking forward to it? Well, you should know by now that creepy films are exactly my kind of thing. smile However, to be more specific, you may have noticed the words "Suspiria" and "Inferno" pop up. Suspiria was released in 1977. Inferno, its sequal, in 1980. They are arguably two of the finest and most brilliant horror films ever made, and this, by the same director and producer, will complete the always-planned trilogy at long, long last. It also has the potential to be the comeback for Dario Argento, once one of the most highly-regarded and distinctive directors in the genre, but who has slipped somewhat since the late 80s. Having seen INLAND EMPIRE a month or two back; this film, Third Mother, is now my most-anticipated film of the year. It may be one for the hardcore horror fans only, mind you. I'm sceptical about Shrek 3, and I liked the second one, but... neither the trailer nor the early reviews from people not ill-disposed to the series fill me with much confidence. I'll be seeing Zodiac on Tuesday, which I'm hearing very, very well of. As I mentioned above, I confidently expect Stardust to be the best big-budget film this year, unless Neil Gaiman and a lot of other people are horribly wrong.

Shrek the Third wasn't bad at all....I admit that it just didn't seem to have as much "umph" as the first two films, but it sure beats the crap out of a lot of CGI movies these days (sigh, how I yearn for the return of 2D animation on the big screen...).
Though I do have to wonder just what's left for the next, and possibly fifth Shrek movies. Not to mention if that Puss In Boots spinoff is really necessary...
Can't wait to see how the Transformers movie comes out....Though to be honest, any references to the original series will pass right over my head. Beast Wars (and Machines) has been, and always will be "my" Transformers series...Sigh, might there be hope of a movie based on it one day?....
Anyway, the trailers at least make it LOOK interesting, if showing a wee bit too many humans for my liking. Guess I can hope most of them get stomped/nuked/blasted off of the screen. razz
I'm going to be sorely disappointed if Optimus doesn't get the girl in the end, mind you. <.<

I'm still perturbed by the amount of prominence that the Generic American White Teens seem to be getting in the publicity. Somebody hopefully remember that the title of the movie is Transformers.
My first thought when seeing a trailer for Shrek 3 was that I despised the idea of the first sequel until I saw the trailer, and wound up preferring the finished product to the original. I'm crossing my fingers on it, but as Xag said, some of the critics panning it're people who I wouldn't normally credit with being uncharitable.
I'm another person just quietly holding out for Stardust, and hoping that whatever quantity of Ricky Gervais we're served is minimal.

Nuala I'm still perturbed by the amount of prominence that the Generic American White Teens seem to be getting in the publicity. Somebody hopefully remember that the title of the movie is Transformers. Very true! I think they're trying to make the film more 'accessible' to a general audience. razz I suppose I'm one of those people who would quite happily sit in the cinema and watch giant robots bash each other into oblivion for two and a half hours. biggrin Still, two sequels have been pretty much confirmed, so perhaps we'll see a little less human involvement in those once the premise has been set up. I live in hope, heheh. If nothing else, I'm sure it'll be an impressive film, even though I'll always be thinking about just how much better it could have been if they'd stuck closer to the source material, and not focussed quite so much on putting Megan Fox into various rather daft positions just to show off her alledged 'hawtness'. rolleyes

I'll be brief as I'm being dragged out to the city to harrass comic store owners.
Transformers The Movie is a beautiful work of art and the more I see it the more I love it.
Infact, rather coincidentally before DW told me to get my truant butt back here and reply, I had watched the latest PAL re-release of the movie on my glorious 42"er.
For those who care: The UK version of the re-release is ever so slightly better than the US one. It contains the UK original release (with Star Wars prologue, "Optimus Prime will return" voice over and Spike's swearword removed) on 1 disc, with interviews and a sole deleted scene and the other disc has the US 20th anniversary remaster, UK>US scene comparisons and a few other things... it was 2am and we didn't have time to surf the extras.
But, seriously... it's one of the most memorable and quotable movies in the eververse. It somehow manages to do the unthinkable of diving in the deep end without any need for introduction so fans don't have to endure a re-introduction, they slap all that out in a monolog while Laserbeak flies into the Autobots' "secret staging grounds on Moon Base 1" ...which the Decepticons already knew about (some secret).
There's really no faffing about at all, it's very very simple, but who cares. It introduces a whole new line of characters and ideas to the continuity, most of which welcome... and even if they did kill 90% of the people we loved (Jazz and Soundwave survived <3) it did an amazing job.
Of course, I jumped off the series after the movie. It's such an amazing end to the mythos.
I guess it's a guy thing... but darn it if I don't keep loving this movie. I've now seen it on VHS, TV, Satellite, DVD, DVD remasters and cinema.
IMAX is next, baby. You watch!
As for the new movie. I hold no opinions at all. Seems to be "The Humans... costarring The Transformers".
But work is paying for our team to go see it and providing us with pizza and maybe even popcorn/coke, so it's not like I'll be wasting money on it... like Fantastic Four, Shrek 3 and Harry Potter... all of which I know will suck before seeing them.

I'll mainly be seeing Transformers for the innovative visual effects, myself, which apparantly feature many things never done before; and because a friend of mine is a longtime fan and t'will be fun going with him.
If it's any good, that's a bonus.

Another post that's mainly a warning more than a recommendation. I just found this on the MF. Yes, it's Jason Lee - but... but... the hoodies! The shades! Hoodies, I tell you! Hoodies! I'll bet they even rap... I came across this a couple of weeks ago - but I never actually thought that some committee of middle-aged blokes in grey suits and a skyscraper somewhere was taking it as a serious suggestion! The original show wasn't ever one of my favourites, but I still like my memories as they are. Maybe they could sing a duet with those revamped Thundercats. Still, it could possibly be worse. After all, the most annoying of the Chip-ettes was even named Britney in the first place...

....Okay, I think people should be allowed to vote on what classic cartoons get a movie revival.... (though sadly, I think only me and five other people in the world remember Dino-Riders...)
I watched A&tC (yee gods, abbreviating it even makes it sound ghetto razz ) when I was little, but I can't even bring myself to watch it now, much less a live-action remake. ...Pretty much the same goes for Underdog, but I doubt I'm alone there. And if there's ever a Mighty Mouse movie....*shudders*
Anyway, on the subject of movie-revivals of classic cartoons, Transformers is....surprisingly awesome! I was really worried that the title robots would be shoved off into that same role that Godzilla is in most of his flicks (that being given tiny on-screen appearances until the last 15 minutes of the movie), but Optimus and the gang were prominant throughout.
And it's one heck of an action flick... I guess if there was anything really bad, it was the overly-obvious shameless product placement. I had long forgotten about the *semi-spoilerish?* Mountain Dew and Xbox 360 characters, until....well, you'll see.
