The beating made him think of Sophia. Late at night blaring Spice Girls from her room. Their beds against the wall divide one room to another, and yet he knew she was holding a pillow staring up at the ceiling fuming or by thel window smoking.
And to check in he would knock on the wall. THUD. THUD.
And he would wait to hear if she was okay. Silence meant he would come over to talk. But mostly she would knock back to say she was okay.
THUD. THUD.
He fired again but his heart ached.

The thudding of the heart seemed to match up to his own heartbeat, or maybe his heart was the one following and echoing the huge heart.

Kim rubbed her shoulders a bit. This was good exercise if nothing else. "Still kicking." She sighed. "Why is this thing so BIG?" This time she managed to get in a good hit, and she smirked a little. She then started singing a song from the music group Heart. "Ohhhh Baracuda..."
Under water... Heart.. it made sense.
