Hvergelmir held her breath while Camelot drew his crystal sword -- the second time she'd seen him do so -- and touched it to the edge of the infected sphere that represented this piece of the Code. She waited. She hoped.

But she was surprised by what, ultimately, transpired.

The Code had spoken outside Hvergelmir's head before -- now it was whispering directly into her mind. And it was asking her to do something very difficult.

She'd always rejected Metallia's service. There was very real enough chaos in the world, she knew, without inviting the more tangible form of it -- Chaos -- into her heart, to warp her thoughts. She didn't like the idea of risking it now . . . but then, it was what she had considered at the very beginning of all this, wasn't it? Transferring the Chaos out of the Academy's Code piece (if indeed that was what this was) and into a different one, a less nuclear one. One individual person, one individual Wonder, could become corrupt and not necessarily infect the whole -- but this had been a special Wonder, one that all knights were connected to; if the Chaos had to go somewhere, it was better to put it where it couldn't spread.

That was what this was, after all. This was the same concept, just -- spread into a handful of different people, rather than just one. The group of them assembled here, trying to manage the Chaos in order to spare everyone else.

It was a risk, yes. But weighed against the possibility of losing the whole of the Code, losing every Wonder -- for once, it was worth the chance. Worth endangering her freedom and her sense of self. Hvergelmir would try.

"You've helped us all this time," she said softly, addressing the Code directly. "You've given us guidance when we needed it, and strength when we were ready to use it. Whatever help I can give in freeing you from this Chaos -- it's yours."

Gevaudan, knight of Ganymeade

The voice sent chills up his spine, and he wondered if it was just Chaos speaking, or some distant cousin to Metallia. A new born voice of chaos, fledging speaking, or was it just the code's warped voice? Either way, he almost felt as if he was in the chambers again, knee pressed to the dark crystal floors, taking orders.

Taking deep breathes, he stared at Camelot's attempt only failed, and the code offered it's own suggestion. A piece of chaos.

Under the table, his hands curled into fists, gripping the hem of his coat as he stared at it.

A little piece of chaos.

The other knights offered themselves, pure as they were and had always been, sure in how easy it would be for them to thwart any influence. Geavaudan on the other hand, well, he couldn't help lick his dry lips and give a dry swallow at the offer.

This side is a mess. IT would have been easier if I had a worthwhile weapon.

If you have this, could SHE find you? Could Metallia call you back to her chambers?

Could ZInkenite find you?

If you had Chaos, even a bit, would starseeds work again?

Can you risk this to save a code piece you know nothing about? What about Hawara? What if you leave him? What if you loose him?

As a knight, you gave up everything for this side. What's a little chaos? Your side needs this?

Do these knights matter? Only Hawara does…but what if this chaos takes us fully?

It wouldn't be the full amount of chaos. A sampling. It's split between all of us.

Will it feel like home again?

Pale, he gave a nervous glance to Chris as he offered, and he felt deep worry for the man and his impaired starseed. Wouldn't he be susceptible?

Looking back, he stared at the swirling darkness – not as an affliction, but as something comforting yet poisonous. Dangerous but once familiar.

"I'll take some of the Chaos." He offered, feeling a bead of cold sweat drop down his back.

Do I tell Hawara?

His heart was racing as he look at the Code.

I'm Gevaudan. Gevaudan can do this. Wolframite won't be called back. But even he could hear his doubt.

Newgrange, Squire of Earth

Newgrange wasn't quite sure what to make of the whole ordeal; he watched in silence of the majority of the exchange, both because he had nothing he felt was worth saying and because he did not wish to draw unwanted attention to himself. He usually did a good job keeping to himself, and he didn't have any enemies within the knights.

He'd have rather liked to keep it that way.

When the Code spoke, he was glad that he had kept his silence.

Nothing about the Code seemed natural. It wasn't like the warm, helpful version at Olympus.

This one was accusatory, and he immediately thought to the dream he'd had. He thought of his ancestor's cold, reproachful eyes.

He thought of failure, and disappointment, and everything he'd ever done wrong.

He felt guilty. And he wanted to make it right.

There was a nagging voice in the back of his head—one he immediately recognized as his overbearing conscience, telling him not to do anything foolish.

Not to take any risks, not to do anything dangerous—because what good did stepping into the unknown ever do?

The pressure on his chest was not unbearable, but it was not comfortable. He tensed instinctively, but there was no pain. This wasn't something trying to hurt him. This was a part of their Code—a part of the thing they were supposed to protect. Angry, lashing out, needing aid.

And it said there was a way to help it, if they accepted some Chaos into themselves. For a moment, Newgrange was worried what the meant—and then he shut out his conscience. Shut out his rational thought. He wasn't afraid of Chaos. Not of a little bit, at least. A little bit couldn’t get to him. He was stronger than that. They all were, here—they had to be.

He drew in a breath, and before he could change his mind, he accepted the Chaos into himself as well.

If the Code had not been so embittered by the Chaos that clung to it, it might have been proud. It might have been grateful. But now was not the time for that.

Now, energy was spreading across the room, pushing at everyone. The walls of the room seemed to buckle, but the building stood strong.

As the Knights began to accept the Chaos into them, the Code changed. It wasn't drastic, at first—it was a slow, steady stream. The energy around it swirled quicker—frantically.

But it lightened.

The darkness slowly seeped away, and the shadow that clung to the room seemed to lift.

The shroud of Chaos thinned, and then it was gone.

Not banished, forever, but stripped from the Code, leaving only a pale, dimly lit orb. The light in it flickered, like a candle clinging to life.

The Chaos was gone from it, accepted into the Knights that voluntarily chose to carry the its burden. It was not an incredibly unpleasant sensation when it slipped into the Knights; it felt like jumping into an icy lake. There were pins and needles for only a second, like moving a sleeping limb. Their heart rate might have increased, and they may have felt dizzy, but it did not hurt.

It felt like a weight in their chest, though. A constant pressure.

There was no telling how it might affect those that braved it, but they should at least take satisfaction that before them, reclaimed, was a piece of the Code.

A piece buried in Metallia's layer, forgotten by time and claimed by Chaos.

An energy that existed before them—before all of them, and all of their ancestors.

And it was alive again, because of them.

The Code Piece did not immediately speak; it was but a piece of the whole, and separated from the natural energy of the universe for so long had worn it thin.

When it spoke again, it was not in their heads—it was out loud. It was soft, and tired, but good.

It whispered, as it flickered meekly, "Thank you."

It seemed like it wanted to say more, but words did not come easily, and the orb it formed drooped. Chaos had eaten away at it, but there was no denying that this piece was of some importance. It glistened like the one on Olympus, and though it was a similar size, it seemed more drawn into itself, like it struggled to keep form.

It managed only more two words, softer even than before.

"…Forgive me."

Hyperborea had nodded in agreement to tell Delphi what happened to her arm later. She had listened to her explanation of what she had missed, taking it all in.

She watched as chaos energy swirled around the room entering the knights who had excepted it. She felt so proud to be a knight at this moment, to see so many of her fellow knights step up to the plate as well to assist their code. Surely if they all worked together like this they could accomplish anything.

The darkness in the code slowly dissipated leaving a dimly lit orb. It seemed weak, like a shell of what it should be but still Hyperborea could see its greatness, this was a special piece of the code no doubt.

She had felt a cold chill run through her body, it reminded her of when she had gone to mirror space, that feeling of diving into ice cold water. Yet it wasn't painful like her memories of her corruption in that horrible future. She felt a weight in her chest but other than that she couldn't see any other effects on her. She definitely hadn't been corrupted into an agent nor had any of the others, so that was good.

When the code spoke again, she felt sorrow for it. It sounded so weak like it had been suffering for a very long time. She wasn't sure if she really had the right to say it but she felt like she had to speak up when the code asked for forgiveness. "That was chaos corrupting you, Metallia is the one at fault here you have nothing to be sorry for."

Kairatos let out the breath he'd been holding, half concious of his own nerves on the matter. While he'd been reasonably sure it would be, at best, uncomfortable, the doubts from Chauvet and Emrys couldn't help but find their marks in the part of his mind that was all too eager to jump on the part that they were taking a risk, that they didn't know what would happen, exactly, and as Chaos settled like a lump of something heavy and uncomfortably undigested...

"Well." He forced a tight smile, and tried not to shiver at the strange, disorienting sensations that had passed over him. "Thankfully it looks like we won't have to find out. But if it had... The reasonable course of action would have been to haul your assess back to earth and warn everyone in ear shot that s**t had gone down."

He rubbed a thumb half consciously at the buckle to his pauldron where it strapped across his armor, as though he could get that weight to shift or settle to be less noticeable.

They'd done a thing. It was a good thing. It was a noble thing...

And he tried very hard not to dwell on the words "Forgive Me" because he did not know if it meant for the hatred that had bled out from it to their wonders... or something else, and he was fairly sure that it would not... or maybe more accurately, could not... answer them. He hadn't known you could exhaust something like the Code, but he'd known so little about the code he couldn't pretend he'd have ever figured it out if they weren't here.

"...We still don't know where to keep you safe..." He added, more quietly, to the drooping thing. Had they done enough? Was it in time? Or had chaos eaten away too much of everything it was?

Chauvet Page of Cosmos

Her pleas, it seemed, fell on deaf ears.

The Code ((or whatever it was)) began to shudder as its presence began to warp the room, entering the open hearts of those who offered themselves to the storm. Chauvet watched with frightened eyes as each person took their piece, a dark communion shared in part by everyone she saw in the assembly. And then it came to her, breathing on her neck in desperation, as if to say Relent, accept, save me, please. And when she glanced to Emrys, who still seemed so frightened and unsure, she steeled herself for the worst and gulped.

Just this once, she stopped resisting, and chaos took that as assent to find its way in. Nothing felt different except for a vague itch at her heart, nagging and vacuous in a way that made her shudder. She continued to look out at the group, trying to harbor a sense of belonging in herself. She had taken part in the contract, she shared a common bond now.

That was...good, right?

"So what happens now?"
the page asked to no one in particular, scratching idly at the side of her neck. "Are we just...done now?"

Hy-Brasil, Page of Earth

Blue eyes watched as the swirling mass of energy around the code began to change. The darkness that had dominated the piece was slowly lightening and with it an icy coldness spread over Hy-Brasil's being but was just as quickly gone. The page glanced at the other around her, noting different reactions and expressions to the chaos that many of them had opted to take into themselves. She herself was slightly puzzled but relieved that nothing drastic had happened to anyone.

The whisper of thank you brought a small smile to Hy's face and a nod of her head in acknowledgement to the Code piece. It was very interesting to see it now free of the chaos and glistening of light.

The final words though caused brows to furrow slightly but the page quickly brushed it off as apologies for past deeds and not what had just occurred. After all, everyone seemed well enough.

"Well, that's at least taken care of now."
She glanced around. "Are we going to leave the piece here, take it with us, or put it in a safe location?" She wasn't exactly sure how this would all go down at this point.

Whisler: Knight of Polaris

Whisler had remained quietly in the back of the room for all of what was going on, he had been rather…completely confused by what they were doing, and really was absolutely unsure as to just what the code was…but it had seemed important, and there were so many knights here…and Camelot was here so…so it had to be important.

The knight of Polaris had done what some of the others had done when the code piece asked them to take some of the chaos away, though he had been so confused as to why Camelot’s beautiful crystal sword hadn’t been enough. He had softly volunteered to take some of the chaos into himself, and when it had happened…well. He felt it at once.

It was a burning cold in his chest, stealing his breath and causing his vision to blur. Oh. Oh that wasn’t a good feeling at all…but the…the code…or whatever it was…at least it seemed better…and sad, or something…

It wanted forgiveness. Was that…Forgiveness for being tainted by chaos…that was something that was all too familiar to him…and it caused his stomach to give a roll. Oh, he would forgive this code thing…that was for sure...

He would forgive anything that had been tainted with chaos and saved…because that’s what needed to happen. Forgiveness needed to be given freely to those who asked for it.

Even if those people didn’t deserve it.

Niflhel had thoughts about accepting Chaos. He wasn't too keen on it but eventually even he agreed. He shivered as the small bit of chaos took to him. Trying to keep his face from twitching into a snarl at the icy feeling, though it wasn't painful it was unpleasant.

His heart felt like it was racing and his head, it fogged and for a second he thought he might pass out from the dizzy spell. It was at least not painful but he was stricken for a moment unable to move other than twitch for a moment or two.

When he could move again he leaned against the nearest wall holding his head. It was like there was something he'd long forgotten, that the feeling had dragged up. The burden sitting on his chest, he was trying to keep from panicking much like he would from one of his nightmares.

"Forgive you?" He said looking towards the meekly flickering sphere. "For what?" He was generally curious and concerned - what had it done?

Though he knew he couldn't tell Polaris or Snowball about this.

Odain shivered when the Chaos was transferred into her. She wasn't sure what had just happened. Though the slight dizzy spell passed and her heart beat was slowing. She looked worriedly towards the code, but wasn't sure what to say. . .

"I do not have a place to go, I do not think," the Code said. "…All pieces of the Code were once something greater, but we are all bound, all connected. If Chaos were to get to one piece, it would get to all of us. We are all still bound together by the threads that connect us, but the bond is not so absolute that corruption of one is corruption of all. Metallia never found me. This piece, at least. The Academy did its job. It kept its piece safe. But…"

The Academy was lost. There was no restoring it, not when it was buried within the bowels of the Negaverse. It was one thing to invade the sanctity of their domain, but it was another thing entirely to try and steal a building—an expansive, magical building—to free it.

There was nowhere for it to go, either.

The Code was emitting a warmer light now than before, but it still seemed dulled, like a light bulb on its last days.

"…There is nothing that can be done about it, now. It would be dangerous to have large pieces of the Code in the same area. The point of separating the pieces was to ensure that if one fell, the Code itself would still stand. But there is no Chaos here? …Would you allow me to stay here? I feel…tired."

It spoke, not unlike the Code Piece on Olympus, but this one almost seemed more human. Almost like being touched by Chaos changed it. But it was not entirely bad—or, at least, it seemed. It was polite, courteous, soft. It did not have any Chaos in its signature, and it didn't have so much as a spec of the dark chaos floating around in it.

"But there is energy here," it added. "Good energy. I could recover here. If you allow it. You do not need to stay, or to guard me. If you are done here, I will not hold you to me. You have done so much already."

"Once something greater?" Niflhel couldn't help but look concerned. What was greater? There was so much they had to learn about this code.

He wrinkled his nose; "How did you corrupt if none of them found you? Can it happen to anyone?" This was troublesome to the Saturn knight; if the code could corrupt without anything corrupting it; what did that say about them?

Though he sighed when the code said there was no Chaos here, Niflhel was trying to ignore the fact they all just took in chaos. "Considering it's the moon . . . I would hope that it's not suppose to have Chaos?"

He stopped, "Won't we have to find you a more permanent home though? Eventually, I mean. The moon is the senshi's thing right?" He looked around at the other knights still there; still present. Wondering if they had the same question.

Venice

It wasn't that he tried to worry Erebus, or just jump into things which they should perhaps discuss if only briefly. But he went with what he felt was right and he was an adult, same as Erebus. He doubted it would make a difference in their relationship if they had opinions that varied, or one took up some action whilst the other didn't. He thought they were strong enough for that, as they both were mature adults. So he wasn't worried when he had stepped forward to receive some of the chaos from the code piece.

The feeling of the chaos entering was...not what he'd expected. It didn't hurt, it wasn't even that uncomfortable or unpleasant. It was a shock to the system when it entered, like if someone were to suddenly turn his shower water to pure cold. It was that sort of feeling - nothing bad. Shuddering he ran his fingers through his hair before listening to the code, though only understanding some of it. He had caught it's apology though and shook his head. "No needing forgiveness - nothing needing forgiving." He said hoping the piece of the code understood even as his dark eyes sought out Erebus' form.

As the code went on explaining things he stood there rather lost, staring at it as it spoke. He could hear it and make out some words but not enough to figure out what it was saying. Biting down on his bottom lip he wondered if the code could perhaps help him in some way...at least when talking and listening to it.

After a moment of shifting his weight from foot to foot he finally decided to try something, and secretly cross his fingers. His English still an issue, both speaking and understanding (not to mention writing), he took to his native tongue of South Korean as he stepped closer to the code.

<"It is hard to understand you. You are very old and once resided on Earth, as do other pieces of the code. Is it possible that you can communicate in other, old, languages? Surely there were knights who spoke these languages. It would be easier for me to understand you if it is possible. I wish to know more and help better but it is hard."> Oh he hoped the code understood. As he finished he bowed once, low and held it for some moments, before he straightened himself. He didn't care at the moment what anyone else thought of his actions, of the words they surely didn't understand. He was trying to help himself here and that was what mattered. If he could help himself he could do better as a knight - and that was most important.

Delphi

The cold chill that ran through her wasn't bad, rather it was comforting and enjoyable, as the bit of chaos she had accepted entered her. She hoped this wouldn't have a bad effect on her but at least the code was safe, so was her piece of the code and her wonder. They were all safe and that was more important. Looking to the white haired knight at her side Delphi smiled lightly, something only just there, and nodded her head. "It looks like the code is better." Weak but better, it could grow in strength given time. Time healed many things and as the code was now saying that being here might help also, which it very well might.

"Can a place be found for you? Wonders are locations here and in space. Can a place not be found for you? A new wonder created, sort to speak? Something that we all have access to as the Academy was accessible to all in the past." As this piece of the code seemed special, maybe it was because it was from where it had been - a place all knights could go and had been? The same as the one at Olympus. Was that why they differed from the code piece at her own wonder?

"If you were all bound together once...and now are broken apart. Was there anything lost when you broke and why and how did that come to pass?" Why had the code been broken into pieces, she understood what it said but had there been some sort of incident? Who had done it, who had that power? Had the code done it on it's own? Could it even? She doubted anyone would deny the code piece it's request to stay here and if any senshi became upset by it she had a feeling they'd have many knights to face down. Delphi was sure the code would not be leaving this place until it wanted to.

Falias, Knight of Earth

There was a sensation of cold as the chaos slipped in, the feeling similar to that of jumping into an ice cold lake.

Not that Falias had ever jumped into an ice cold lake, but it was the thought - the comparison - that came immediately to mind.

It was there for a moment and then was gone, although there was a heaviness that had not been there prior - a weight on his chest that was a reminder of what he had done...

Of what he had chosen.

But the chaos was gone from the Code, leaving a pale dimly lit orb and as Falias heard its voice speak he could not regret that choice.

"There is nothing to forgive" he said quietly, because there wasn't - at least not on his part and not from this piece of the Code.

The choice to take on the part of chaos had been his to make and he had made it willingly.

He had no questions of his own, but had lingered nonetheless as others had asked questions of the Code piece, curious as to how the Code would answer.

He was tired however and so Falias knew that he wouldn't be lingering for much longer - that and he suspected that they should let the Code piece recover in whatever way a ball of energy recovered.
