Name:: Murtagh Name Meaning::Murtagh Gender:: Male Type:: Assassin Recruit - Follows Edward Kenway Sexuality:: Open Minded Mate/Love Interest:: Nada Children:: None Friends:: Assassin Order Enemies:: Templars Personality:: Murtagh handles whatever order Edward Kenway gives him when they're out at sea, no matter how trivial it might seem. He will work with the other assassins that serve under Edward, and, if ordered to by Edward, assassins from the other branches, although he will not be as concerned for their safety as he would for his fellow crewmates. TvTropes Stuff::
The Assassin Order
"Nothing is true, everything is permitted." Also known as the Assassin Brotherhood, they are an ancient group dedicated to preserving the freedom of mankind from any who would threaten it. Their main enemies are the Templar Order, who seek to use the Pieces of Eden to dominate the world. They have long operated in secret, only occasionally recruiting exceptional individuals into their ranks. By 2012, the Assassin Order is severely depleted and on the run, desperately trying to stop the Templars from achieving their final goals and a massive potential global catastrophe from a massive sun flare. Animal Motif: Eagles most prominently. Anti-Hero: Type III at best and Type V at worst, but they're usually in the middle as a solid Type IV. They’re merciless and ruthless and will not hesitate to kill anyone affiliated with the Templars or people who they feel stand in the way of the greater good. But by the same token they will Never Hurt an Innocent (well, usually anyway) and they also have genuinely good intentions The Anti-Nihilist: The Assassins; "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad: ...laws arise not from divinity, but reason. I understand now that our creed does not commend us to be free - it commends us to be wise. Ezio Auditore da Firenze: ...merely an observation of the nature of reality: To say that nothing is true is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic. Black and Gray Morality: Usually the gray to the Templar's black. Blade Below the Shoulder: Their trademark Hidden Blade, which they have used into the modern era (although its more ceremonial by that point). The Combat Pragmatist: Frequently. The Determinator: They have a bit of a habit of including them, and the order as a whole probably fits this too. The Fettered/The Unfettered: The Assassins strive for Freedom/Chaos, yet live by a strict moral code that defines all their actions. The Templars, in contrast, seek Order/Law, yet have absolutely no moral restrictions on their behavior and are free to use any and all means (up to and including mass murder) in pursuit of their goal: this leads to quite a few ironies. Ultimately, both the Assassins and Templars believe that "Nothing is true, everything is permitted". But to the Assassins the phrase is descriptive whereas to the Templars it's proscriptive. Good Is Not Nice The Hashshashin: Their front in the Third Crusade. Hidden in Plain Sight: One of the common Assassin methods of getting through missions unnoticed, through whatever means necessary. It is, in fact, part of their Creed from the Middle Ages. In the Hood: A recurring part of their uniforms over the ages. Leap of Faith: The trademark skill of the Assassins, along with the Hidden Blade. All recruits are required to perform this as part of their initiation as full Assassins. Man in White: Their colors are white and red. The original reason for the former was so the assassins could disguise themselves as average priests, who also wore white hooded robes. Light is Good: But not pure. The Mentor: A title given to the overall leader of a Assassin Guild, and eventually all Assassins worldwide. Never Hurt an Innocent: One of their tenets as part of their eponymous Creed. However, they're willing to make exceptions for Unwitting Pawns of the Templars and, in some cases, witnesses of their crimes. Order Versus Chaos: Technically the chaos to the Templar’s order, but here the “chaotic” group are (usually anyway) the good guys. The Purge: Beginning in 2000, the Assassin Order has been in hiding and on the run after Templar sleeper agent Daniel Cross killed the current Mentor and gave the Templars the location of dozens of Assassin bases. Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: Believe it or not, they're the idealists. Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Assassins are willing to ally with evil people and groups if forced to, and will kill those being manipulated by the Templars without knowing it, in order to safeguard humanity. Taken further in III. Desmond asks his father, William whether the Assassins have ever tried to do something to a Templar agent like the Templars did to Daniel Cross or Lucy Stillman. William admits they did, but that they just weren't as successful due to their agents either being too weak to resist being turned or too strong to appear to be turned.

Jack Frost (Chris Pine)
Adaptational Attractiveness Adaptational Heroism: His original mythology portrayed him as a prankster, too. However, he wasn't always nice with people and even may kill children with his snow without any regret. In other stories, he is a villain, but here, he is a hero and a kind soul. All-Loving Hero: Implied to be one. Jack loves children, would never hurt them and tries to protect them as much as he can. Even though the Guardians left him alone during so long, he is always ready to help Tooth when her fairies are kidnapped. It is also implied that he never wished to hurt Pitch either, and was still sorry for him in the end. And I Must Scream: Not as bad as at other examples, considering that he had at least some contact with some of the Guardians, but he was completely alone, invisible to the extent that people passed through him, and didn't know anything about himself or what he was meant to do for over 300 years. Anti-Hero: He's brave and heroic at heart, but also an incorrigible trickster who prefers to work alone. Jack: Am I on the Naughty List? Santa:On the Naughty List? You hold the record. Badass Badass Adorable: Next to Sandy, he has the most offensive power among the Guardians. Beneath the Mask: Jack is apparently cheerful and always tries to make people having fun. However, he is really a lonely soul who tries to be believed, and belonging to a place he could call home. Big Brother Instinct: Jack is this toward every child of the story, which could explain the fact that he is the most connected to them amongst the Guardians. He can also be viewed as a Papa Wolf, too. When Jack was still human, he and his sister were playing on a frozen lake. When the ice started to crack beneath his sister's feet, Jack used his staff to swap his position with hers, saving her, but also caused him to fall into the lake himself and drown. It is even said that his best memories are with his sister. The Call Has Bad Reception: Jack is really The Hero at heart, and the Moon gave Jack his powers so that he could be a Guardian. Too bad no one gave Jack any indication of what he was meant to do with his powers, or even any memory from before he got them. Casting Gag: Most likely unintentional, but having Chris Pine voice Jack Frost is a hilarious coincidence. Character Development: He goes from an incorrigible, lonely trickster who prefers having fun rather than being a Guardian to a more responsible, brave person (although he is still a trickster). Cool Big Bro: The epitome of this. Dead to Begin With: The film opens with Jack having drowned in a lake. Death Activated Super Power: Jack was chosen as a Guardian because he died saving his sister. Death by Irony: The spirit of ice and snow drowned while ice-skating. Disappeared Dad: Implied, as his father is never seen during the flashbacks of his human self. Does Not Like Shoes: He's completely shoe-less for the entire film. When offered a pair of blue elf shoes (with bells) from an elf, Jack cringes and stops the ceremony immediately. Near the end of the story, it is revealed that he didn't mind walking on ice barefoot, even as a human. Evil Is Deathly Cold: Defied. Pitch offers Jack an alliance, but he rejects the offer. May be invoked as Jack was meant to be a bit more mean in early versions of his character the movie. Originally, Jack Frost's myth wasn't always kind, and could harm children with his powers. Expy: He looks a lot like Roxas with icy blue hair. Fragile Speedster: He is nimble and can dole out a few hard knocks like a glass cannon, but easily stuffed into a sack once caught. Freudian Excuse: He makes a lot of mistakes during the whole story, like refusing the call of being a Guardian or exchanging Baby Tooth for his memories. He had been alone for so long, and is desperate for believers as well as knowing who he was when he was a human. Friend to All Children: In the film, he has the closest relationship to children and enjoys spending time with them, even if they can't see him. Fun Personified: Even compared to the other Guardians—including North i.e.: Santa. This is his center. Give Me a Sign: He does this to the Man in the Moon. Go Out with a Smile: The last thing he does before dying is smiling to his sister after having saved her. Happily Adopted: Eventually when the Guardians accept him. Hates Being Alone: And he has been alone for 300 years. The Heart: While Jack doesn't keep the Guardians together, he helps them reconnect with children after it is revealed that they've been working so long that they'd forgotten how to play with them. Heel Realization: Not as bad as others examples, but it may count. Jack: Pitch was right. I make a mess of everything. The Hero: Specifically for the film, where his addition to the Big Four is the primary Story Arc. He's Back: We're treated to a shot of Jack doing a Superman impression, shooting out of a ravine. Heroic Neutral: At the beginning, he refuses to become a Guardian even though he still helps them. Heroic Sacrifice: As a human, while on a frozen lake, Jack used his staff to pull his sister off thin ice, which caused him to fall in and drown. An Ice Person: To point where he physically can't warm anything up. I Have Many Names: Jack Frost can also be called the Old Man Winter, or Father Frost. I Just Want to Be Loved: May be the Philia or Storge in his case. Ineffectual Loner: Not that he wants to be alone; he simply can't be seen by humans. Innocent Blue Eyes: Of the icy variety. They were brown when he was human. Interspecies Romance: His relationship with Tooth can be viewed this way. It's All My Fault: More than one time in the movie. It Sucks to Be the Chosen One: First. Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He might be a Knight in Sour Armor initially and The Trickster, but his Fun Personified Friend to All Children attitude gives him a genuinely very kind, older brother personality. Kick the Morality Pet: He refuses to listen to Baby Tooth when she tries to prevent him from searching for his memories. Kidnapped by an Ally: He's already well-acquainted with the other Guardians before the movie's events. However, in order to "persuade" him to join their team, they bring them to their base first via Bag of Kidnapping. Knight in Sour Armor: When he first joins the Guardians. Lesser of Two Evils: The Guardians (Bunny in particular) were kind of reluctant to take Jack in their team because, according to Bunny, he was selfish and irresponsible. Nevertheless, they still took him because he wasn't as bad as Pitch is. Light Is Not Good: At the beginning, he only remains as neutral. Then he grows up as a true hero. Locked into Strangeness: Though we never get to see what the other Guardians looked like as humans, Jack gets pale skin and white hair out of the transformation. His eyes also change from brown to blue. Magic Staff: He doesn't need it to access his powers, but the staff allows him to channel it and seemingly amplify it. It also seems to be connected to him directly in some fashion as being forcefully separated from it or having it broken causes him visible pain. May-December Romance: Although their ages don't matter much anymore, he seems to have shades of this with Tooth. Mr. Fanservice: He attracted an army of fangirls before the film was released. My God, What Have I Done?: When he realized he exchanged Baby Tooth against his memories. Even the others Guardians point it out. Mystical White Hair: His hair turned white when he became a Guardian. Nature Spirit: Of winter, of course. Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Despite being Jack Frost and being a Winter spirit, he clearly cares about children and wouldn't harm anyone in a malicious way, unlike what Bunnymund said about him in his first appearance. Played straight when Pitch gave him his memories, making others thinking that he betrayed them. Not Quite Flight: Jack doesn't have true flight, but he can call on the wind to pick him up (flailing chaotically all the way). Not So Different: With Pitch, definitely. In all ROTG materials, you can always find similarities between these two. In the movie, they both hate being alone and want to be believed in by people. They also are the ones who have a connection with the dark side (Pitch being completely evil and using shadows, while Jack is neutral at the beginning of the story. His ability of ice and cold doesn't always benefit people, not to mention that Pitch also thinks that Evil Is Deathly Cold, too). In the comics, they both have a staff and had refused the call of being a Guardian (before Jack's Character Development) which leads them to be cast out. Finally, in the books, it is said that Pitch had been killed by Fearlings while Jack drowned in ice water. Furthermore, both of them had a loved one they cared the most about (Pitch had a daughter and Jack had his sister) and they both became a Papa Wolf by trying to save them from danger. It's almost understandable why Pitch thought that the two of them should go together. With Bunnymund, too. They are apparently two seasonal spirits (Jack is winter while Bunnymund may be spring) which could explain their arguments. They also have a Big Brother Instinct or Papa Wolf behavior toward two children (Jamie for Jack and Sophie for Bunnymund). When they argue, they are as childish as each other. North and Jack also have some similarities with each other when you read the books. North has nearly the same behavior as Jack when he was younger, as he was a bandit before being reformed thanks to his master Ombric. It is also said that he never had any friends or parents to get affection from, and had a Big Brother Instinct attitude to Katherine in almost the same way as Jack did to Jamie. Our Fairies Are Different: The "Guide to the Guardians" book says that he's an Ice Elf. Papa Wolf: To Baby Tooth. And also toward Jamie as well. Also toward his younger sister, especially as his father is never shown when he remembers his memories. Parental Abandonment: Jack spent 300 years alone without any family or friends to guide him. His memories showed that he had indeed a family, but they died while Jack was an immortal spirit. However, when he learnt this, Jack was excited having a family on his own. The Prankster: Not a malicious one, being carefree and highly sociable. Due to the nature of ice and snow, he's still pretty dangerous when he wants to be. Pretty Boy: Tooth and her fairies fawn over his looks throughout the film - although it MAY be solely due to his teeth. Most definitely not to do with his teeth when you look at how many fangirls he has garnered in Real Life. Rage Against the Heavens: Many times against the Man in the Moon in the movie. Really 700 Years Old: Jack looks barely past his late teens, but he's been around at least since America's early colonial times. Refusal of the Call: When the Guardians finally do extend a membership offer to Jack, he rejects it, angry at being left adrift, alone and Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life for 300 years. Although it might be justified; he had been alone for 300 years, and the Guardians never really paid attention to him, not to mention they never told him what he's supposed to do. So, essentially from his POV, he woke up from being frozen, is now an elf with white hair, and is alone with strange powers which he has to learn by himself, with no idea why he is still alive. Replacement Goldfish: There are hints that the Big Brother Instinct attitude toward children are due to the ones he had toward his sister. You can't help but thinking about a slight similarity between Jamie and Jack's sister, in appearance and the way they said "Jack, I'm scared." That's maybe the reason why Jack has this attitude toward him. Ship Tease: With Toothiana, especially at the ending of the movie. A bit too with Bunnymund or Pitch, if you are a Yaoi fan. Snow Means Death: The way he becomes a Guardian. Snow Means Love: When he becomes a Guardian, he is with all of his friends. You can see some snow falling around them. Sympathy for the Devil: Despite being enemies, it's clear enough through Jack's expressions that he still empathizes a bit with Pitch's condition, probably because they shared the same condition as spirits. Even at the ending, when Pitch is brought back to his lair by his nightmares, Jack is the only one who is seemingly horrified by this. Unstoppable Rage: When Sandy is killed by Pitch. "Well Done, Son!" Guy: Many of his actions in the story are made for trying to catch attention from anybody he could call his friend, like Guardians or the Man in the Moon. Who Wants to Live Forever?: Jack suffered from this during 300 years because nobody could see him. You Can See Me?: During his first meeting with Jamie.

The Evilly Affable followers of Sithis and the Night Mother. This once infamous order of assassins has fallen on hard times. Only one Sanctuary remains in all of Tamriel, and the Night Mother has fallen silent since the last Listener died. Without her, Black Sacraments have gone unheard, forcing the order to physically scour for those seeking contracts. A new Listener would turn things around, or the wrong person can destroy the organization forever.... The Brotherhood in General Affably Evil: They're all quite friendly for a band of remorseless serial killers, though obviously some are more friendly than others. Equal-Opportunity Evil: A Redguard assassin, a nutty jester, a child vampire alchemist, a Dunmer archer, an old Imperial mage, and an Argonian Shadowscale, lead by a Nord assassin and her werewolf husband. And no matter your race or fighting style of preference, you can join them all the same. Also, the generic assassins they may send to kill you are Khajiit. Murder, Inc.: Their standard format is that somebody performs the Black Sacrament, a Speaker retrieving the contract, and another agent completing said mission, upon which they receive payment. Ninja: Their armor has such a vibe to it this time, complete with optional face cowl. Red and Black and Evil All Over: The colour scheme of their uniforms. Religion of Evil: They're supposed to serve Sithis and the Night Mother, but with the Night Mother silent, the actual religious element has fallen by the wayside. The Remnant: Their loss of a Listener to commune with the Night Mother has reduced them to glorified sellswords, scoping out contracts by rumors about who is looking for their aid. We Are Everywhere: The point of their questline is to restore them to their former reputation and put the fear of their boundless reach back in the minds of the public. But even when they recruit you, no matter where in Skyrim you are, you're abducted from your bed to be hauled before Astrid.
Veezara
Voiced by: Tim Blaney An Argonian assassin from the extinct Shadowscale order. Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Before meeting the Dark Brotherhood, at least. I Owe You My Life: Astrid gave him a reason to live again... specifically, killing people. Killed Off for Real: During Maro's attack on the Sanctuary. Last of His Kind: One of the last Shadowscales. Unfortunately, he's literally the last, as depending on whether you destroyed the Dark Brotherhood or joined them, he's either killed by you or by Commander Maro's troops. Taking The Blade: When Cicero loses his temper with Astrid, who decides to insult the Night Mother, Veezara gets in the way and protects her from being hurt by the jester's knife. He survives. We Need a Distraction: Helps divert attention from you after a deliberately public assassination.
