[7. Finally, navigate a hay bale maze. The maze is winding and geometric in patterning and is approximately 6 feet tall. ]

J’nes entered the maze, walking near enough t the side of the entrance that a few strands of hay sticking out of the bale scratched against his shirt.

You’re rather close to the wall, take a step to the left, Hatteth advised, though J’nes had realized as much and already done so. The first turn or two has no choice of path, so that’s simple enough. But after that the path branches, he noted.

If there are any branches that go only a short way before they end in a dead-end, you can eliminate those, his rider suggested.

Hatteth quickly looked for any such paths, Ah, yes! I see paths like that. There are other branches that are not so clear, though.

Hatteth proceeded to guide J’nes along what seemed to be the most likely path. Once or twice he realized that he had sent his rider down a path that lead to a dead end and had him turn around. Thankfully he caught the error before his rider had hit the end of those paths, so they didn’t lose too much time.

Finally Hatteth told J’nes, There! Just one more turn and you’ll be out!

J’nes quickened his pace at that. That’s good to hear. I was starting to get tired of walking around blind. Though you’ve been going a good job of keeping me from hurting myself, or looking like a fool.

Soon enough J’nes crossed the finish line and heard, That’s it! We’re through! He immediately pulled the blindfold off, then went to wait for the results of the competition.

It took a solid 24 hours for the exhausted pair to recover from the dragon relay but there was no keeping a good dragon and his rider down for long and after K'gan had double checked with a healer about Trekth's mild wing sprain and been given the all clear they dived straight back into the games.

Perhaps K'gan had learnt some responsibility with age because he avoided the agility contest in favor of a game to test them both but keep Trekth gronded and healing for a while longer.

K'gan trusted his dragon implicably, as did Trekth trust his rider but even the enthusiastic young rider had his doubts over whether his beloved could hold his focus long enough to guide them through the entire course without fail.

"I can do it."

"Hey, you weren't meant to hear that, private thought."

"I knew what you were thinking before you thought it anyway."

K'gan grinned. "As usual huh?" It didn't matter, they were both all for new games and even with a golden certainty that they couldn't win K'gan would still have jumped in with both feet. The brief conversation with his life bonded had distracted him enough for the small line in front of him to clear. "looks like we're up. Don't walk me into a ditch okay?" Trekth let his dismissive snort at the idea pass through the mind link and K'gan chuckled as he stepped up into place so one of the game overseers could secure the blindfold across his eyes.

The game had been in full swing for a while now and so the crowd had a good flow to it, some joining while others petered out into the vendors stalls or other game's viewing. Still enough to fuel the rider with a small cheer and patterning applause when the signal was given to start.

"They are cheering for us."
Trekth's voice was both impressed and pleased. "So they should, we are about to ace this."
K'gan replied with Trekth's pleasure infecting his own mood. "Okay, tell me where to go."

Unfortunately 'acing' the first challenge proved a mild exaggeration as K'gan stumbled along the first obstacle, barely keeping his feet within the lines thanks to erratic instructions. It was not the black's fault really. The pair had never practiced such a game before and Trekth wasn't entirely clear on left and right.
