Alyx' somewhat inadvisable attack on the fleeing beetle had wrapped it so tightly in spiderwebs that it wouldn't be able to get away for some time, but at least it would die knowing how it felt to be warmly wrapped in the silky secretions of someone who wants it to suffer on a very personal level. Alyx primed the strongest attack that he could think of. A fusion of his cross slash, and two double strikes, dumping every ounce of AP that he had into one vicious flurry of attacks. Hopefully, he'd make up with Gloomshard's natural destructive capabilities what he lacked in his own, personal destructive output. He could afford to throw as many attacks as possible, because frankly he wasn't entirely convinced that these things could really dodge, especially after being wrapped up in the personal webs from the Gloomking's finest selection. Top tier silk, this. Some people paid lots of money for silk beddings, and here Alyx was, giving this ungrateful beetle his own silk-lined coffin. Time to shut the lid and drive those nails home. But wait. What's this? Another piss-ant enters the fray! And he wants to talk religion! Well, that's just fine. Alyx' gleaming sword flurried at a speed that can most easily be described as... Fast. Yeah. That about sums it up. Maybe even swift. But fast works. And it's probably easier than swift. One less letter, and all that. So yeah. His sword was fast. Because his arm was fast. I mean, his sword is not inherently fast. It might be faster than some other swords, because it's lighter, but maybe if you were really strong, you would be able to move that heavy sword just as fast as Alyx moved his sword. But then, if you were that strong, you'd probably be able to swing Alyx' sword even faster, because it's still lighter, and you could carry on doing that until infinity, although once you approached the speed of light, time would start to dilate, making the sword's journey seem like it was one speed in one place, and another to an outside viewer, so your hand might begin aging at a disparate rate, due to the sword traveling for a few seconds, while it took the rest of your body almost a minute to complete the motion. Which could potentially sever your hand from your body as the matter in your hand, and the sword, traveled at a speed that your body couldn't possibly match. You could probably alleviate all that by moving your whole body at the speed of light, but if you can move that fast, why are you nitpicking over swords? Really, at that point, you could just run at something, and the miscellaneous particles that you collected on your body would continue at such a rate when you stopped that they would crash into the object with such velocity that, despite their relatively small mass, they would carry such force that they would destroy whatever they ran into, unless that thing was also moving at the speed of light in the opposite direction, in which case they might be fine, since they would outrun the superfast particles. But, even given that scenario, given its lighter mass, the smaller sword would experience less time dilation, and thus would still be considered 'faster' than the larger sword. But while that might be true in a comparative sense, the actual nature of the sword is inanimate, and thus, does not possess an innate speed of its own, unless we count the motion of the entire universe around us, in which case, it does have motion, but the differences between the two swords in that instance are so miniscule that they couldn't properly be measured. In fact, considering that we are in a virtual world at this given time, there might not even be a universe. Maybe the world is static. If that's the case, then neither sword has a movement speed, and is only influenced by outside forces that act upon them. So neither of the swords is really 'fast', but it might be more accurate to describe the motion of Alyx' sword arm as fast, which, compared to a normal sword arm as observed experimentally, is fast. Back to religion: "PREPARE TO MEET YOUR GOD, VERMIN!"

He really wanted to fight enemies that goddamn stayed dead when he killed them. Why did he have to devote time and effort into making things MORE DEAD? He should only have to spend that effort when they decide to become deliverers of vengeance on him for killing them, becoming more powerful than before. not twin bitches that he could kill with less effort than before. It was just goddamn inconsiderate. Alyx seemed to have one of them well handled so he moved on to the remaining healthy one to finish things off as efficiently as possible. the sooner they were all dead, the sooner they could move on. His blade erupted in black light, but no afterimage followed his blade. It was very unique. Well... That had happened. Alyx wasn't entirely sure what that was all about, but he felt utterly refreshed, and somewhat happier that he was not moving at speeds considered theoretical by objects that weren't half energy. But he kind of was energy, wasn't he? He was a virtual character, in a virtual world. Didn't that mean that he was already moving at the speed of light? Oh, God. Should he be worried about his hands!? So what was this all about, again? Murdering beetles. Yes. Because foreign cars were ruining the economy. Wait. What? He shook his head. Beetles. Bugs. giant, silk-wrapped burritos of grotesque nonsense. They needed to die. He was here to facilitate that passing. That was his job. His duty. His mission, given to him by a higher power, and entrusted to his care. It measured the strength of his sword, and steeled his heart against distraction, while shielding his body from harm. He was on the noblest of quests, to rescue himself from the darkness of the mysterious world in which they found themselves. He must boldly venture forth. He must proceed with haste, and grim dignity through the unimaginable trials of this bizarre landscape. Such a quest required the mightiest and boldest of warriors to remain focused, and determined to uphold his valor, and pave a legacy in the stones upon which he walked, for all the warriors who come after him to see. Yes. He would conquer this world. And it all started here! Behold, the might of Alyxandeyr, the Gloomking! He stepped idly toward the beetle and poked it with his sword.

As he moved in towards the final beetle he got a glimpse of Alyx's face as he was moving that gave him a bit of pause. Alyx had this dead-pan-stare to him that could not be adequately described. He did not quite know where his friend was at the moment, but it was safe to say that it wasn't here with him in this room, or even in this existence. Perhaps he was flying amongst the clouds in some far off world, or frolicking through a field of daffodils to the dulcet tones of whippoorwills. Was he having a daydream or a waking nightmare? Perhaps it was nice there, filled with everything he had ever wanted, such as everyone deserves. We all should get in this life the things we set out to achieve, but only if we actively seek to gain them. Nothing in life is free, and as such we must put forth actual effort to achieve our goals. He still pondered on what Alyx was seeing behind that thousand yard stare of contemplation of the unknown. Perhaps he was seeing a universe where these events were false and being controlled by external influence, ultimately placing their fates and struggles into the hands of others. Maybe those external peoples were equally as baffled by the sequence of events? It would make sense if those chosen lucky few shared their ideals so much with their avatars that those feelings would be shared with the ones controlling them. Nah, that wasn't it. Perhaps Alyx was pondering on what the next floor would be like? It was a thought that occurred to Rota often as well. With how strong they were, he didn't think it would be that much of an issue, but there would always be the chance. Would the next floor have mining areas? he hoped so. It would be a real shame if he had to come all the way back here just to mine for materials. Oh god did the next floor have a forge? how good was it? did it exist? Did it not exist? Because he doesn't never use a forge that maybe won't mayhaps exist henceforth. He would have to fix that situation too, but he needed land to be able to set up shop. Wait wait wait, he was getting ahead of himself. One crisis at a time. What was Alyx thinking about? was he having an existential crisis at the sheer power of Rota's sword? That would be unfortunate. he fully intended to make his equipment just as strong as Neo Abyssian, he just needed to find the time. he had the will, just not the materials to make it happen. he needed Coal is what he needed. Was it over? Alyx looked around the room, the lights dancing in the still air around them, and felt a moment of exhilaration. Until he realized that his battle music was still playing. He was not out of this yet. Until the last red shard had faded into nothingness, this was not yet over. He closed his eyes as his shoulders sagged, and turned his face to the heavens, trying to calm his breathing as much as possible. All they had to do was clear this room, and then they'd be on to greener... Well, maybe not quite as green, but better, pastures. He took slow breaths, waiting for the inevitable sound of one of these things pulling itself back together.

They stepped into the next room, and were confronted with a vision that was... Well, mostly the same. It was still green, and it was definitely a room. And there was a cat in the middle of it. Just sitting there like a smug b*****d. Alyx was tired of cats. And of their smug b*****d-ness. Raising his shield, he burst into light as he rushed the animal, aiming everything he had into a damaging spiderweb smash, and hoping to root it down to the point that Rota could give it a quick cosmetic surgery. If he made contact, that little furball wasn't going anywhere, and this would all be over in an instant. After all, it was just one cat. What could possibly go wrong?

He reached up slowly and ran his hand down the length of Gloomshard. He glared at the animal, his gaze frigid. He spoke, softly, his voice as sharp as the edge of his blade. Alyx' Wrath and Rota's shadow strike ended with a rather explosive finale, courtesy of the former fleabag that had once stood where a curious lack of cat was to be found now. Alyx looked suspiciously around. This seemed too easy. Weren't there any more monsters in this dungeon that cougars and beetles? And weren't there supposed to be more gimmicks than this? Intangible enemies and mitosis were great and all, but surely there had to be something... More. Right? I mean, two monsters and two special conditions seems a bit like lazy design. Although, these people may just be lazy. This was a randomly-generated dungeon, after all.
