"I don't have to stand on my tiptoes to see around me," said Chance delicately, though he was barely containing his laughter, one hand over his mouth so that his voice came out muffled.
"The whole not-drawing-attention thing though, I do envy that."

God. Dammit. Otto raised his arm and dropped his elbow onto Chance's stomach like a drop kick. "Low blow." He grumbled in humour. Otto did in fact have to stand on his toes on one too many occasions.

He made a wheezing noise, a sound of mock pain. "Speaking of low blows," Chance breathed out, snickering, making a grab for Otto's wrist to prevent him from elbowing him again. "Ow."
"Don't worry," Chance added. "There are plenty of advantages to being your height and plenty of disadvantages to being mine."

Otto didn't mind his wrist being taken, for now. He'd dealt the pain he wished to deliver already. So long as no more cracks at his height were taken. "Taller guys look cooler, though." Otto added to the advantages thing. Short just didn't look cool at all. "I was actually shorter than this when I first got to the island. I grew a couple inches last year." Only a couple, but at least he wasn't Gale height anymore.

Chance's eyes flickered over Otto's form briefly, fingers loose around his wrist.
"Nah," he said, and smiled. "You're a good height. You're in the middle, which means you have the advantage of getting benefits from both being shorter than some and taller than others. The best of both worlds, right?" he added.

"I'm mostly just taller than girls. Not even all girls. There's a lot of tall ones here." What gave them the nerve to grow so tall? Honestly! He smirked lightly and relaxed. "Actually, I don't mind my height as much as I used to. I still get a little agitated if someone actually makes fun of me over it, but not as bad as I used to get." Usually only Rep seriously poked at his height, or youth. And as far as that went, his jabs always seemed empty lately. "If I suddenly got taller, I think I'd just be weirded out now. I'm used to this vantage point." He could still feel the loose pressure of Chance's hand over his wrist, and he couldn't say he didn't like having physical contact, no matter how minimal it was. Out there in the vast open sky, it was easy to feel small and alone. Almost enough that he wanted to hold someone's hand, just to assure himself someone was there.

"Unfortunately, there are times when I have to stoop through doorways just to get under them," said Chance with a laugh. "And sometimes I don't always notice until I've whacked my head on a door frame. I always had to do that on the bookstore I worked at, I swear the place was built for Hobbits."
He hadn't let go yet; his fingers fluttered over Otto's wrist, a little higher, an idle gesture. "I think if you suddenly got taller, you wouldn't know what to do with it," sad Chance with a snort of amusement. "But to be fair, I usually don't poke at your height. Mostly just your turkey self," he added in a deadpan.

"That explains the brain damage." He joked with a straight face. Otto's fingers latched to Chance's as soon as he felt them near. It made his heart swell, as if he'd filled a small hole simply by making contact with someone. He'd deprived himself not only of social interaction, but physical too. And small little gestures like this one had him aching for more. Otto was a physcial creature, despite the efforts to contain and shame himself for it. "Why a turkey!?" He said with a laugh, confused yet amused all the same. His eyes squinted in mirth, lifting his free hand to slightly cover his smile.

"Rude," said Chance, without any heat behind it. "I'll have you know my brain is completely and totally awesome."
He felt Otto's fingers close around his, and something twisted in Chance's stomach, something like pleasure that he wasn't used to. His own hand shifted just a little, moving to lace their fingers together in a grip that was firm and warm, but still loose enough for Otto to pull away if and when he wanted.
It felt nice. Out here, beneath the open skies, without anyone around but the two of them; without fear that someone would walk by, without the stiff, sterile scent of Deus, with the gentle chirp of cicadas surrounding them. Warm and pleasant and reassuring, because Chance was just as much a lover of physical contact as Otto was.
"Because," he said, unable to contain his own laughter. "That was the first word that came to my head. Would you prefer something else? Maye a monkey?"

Their fingers were laced together, a small and delicate bond that could have been enough. Was it terrible that he almost wanted to hug him then? Probably terrible. Maybe he really was a starved human being. Completely starved. He tapped Chance's foot with his own, assuring himself the man was laying right there next to him. "Why's it gotta be an animal?" He huffed indignantly. He pointed to the sky with his free hand. "What one's your favourite?" He asked, his gaze on the stars.

He felt Otto's foot tap against his, a simple, idle gesture that made Chance smile. A nudge was given back, playful and lighthearted, and a small laugh escaped him, his palm warm against Otto's.
"Just because animals are fun," said Chance, eyes twinkling with mischief. He redirected his gaze skyward. "Which one is my favorite of the constellations, or which animal? If we're going by constellations, Draco is definitely mine. Animals, well, I like any sort of big cat."

"I like dogs." Otto replied back. "My grandpa had a big ol' sheep dog. I ********' loved that dog." He shifted a little bit closer. He continued tapping idly at Chance's foot.

"Sadly, we had no animals growing up," said Chance musingly, curling himself a little closer to Otto in response. It was very warm and nice. "I would have liked a dog, they're fun to cuddle with. Cats are just fun to watch, because they're sleek and lazy and amusing."

"Cats hate me. So I never really got into them much." This was nice. Otto's head easily leaned to the side, lightly resting against' Chance's. He could smell the other man's shampoo, and even though the ground was hard and rough, he was comfortable. Warm, pleasantly snug. He might in fact take the man up on his offer sooner than he anticipated. He just wanted so badly to feel close to someone again. In a way only sex could attain. He lapsed into silence, contemplating his mindset and the excited thrumming of his heartbeat.
