She frowned at the swell of votes -- the tip of her hoof dug into ground trying to keep a tally -- for the doe who had suggested no vote at all and then for kin who had, as of yet, not even spoken. Bizarre.
"The Once and Future King is my vote," she decided. It was better to have a chance at taking out a predator than to do nothing, wasn't it?

Sage listened patiently for a change, allowing other kin to take the spotlight in the discussion of who to vote out i their first day. It seemed like it would be pretty even at first, but then someone pulled ahead in a clear lead - and for good reason, he thought.
"I'll vote for The Once And Future King too," Wild Sage supplied with a nod. "Enough people have pointed out why not voting and encouraging others not to vote was a bad idea, so I won't chew your ear off expounding on it."
He glanced at the doe who'd come in with his maybe relative, and who had spoken for at least five minutes straight, barely stopping to take a breath. She did seem sort of self-conscious about her outburst, so maybe digging at her like that was a little uncalled for. He'd have to apologize to her later... Maybe she and that other doe were a couple, and needed a surrogate? Being family and all, it'd only be proper for him to volunteer.
Nightingale had merely listened, wide-eyed and quivering, while the kin around her debated, but finally she inched closer to Merry Wanderer. "I'll vote for The Once and Future King as well," she said to him quietly. "A vote for any other at this point is not likely to accomplish anything."

Wild Cry watched all the interaction with twinkling eyes. He saw how every one latched on to a name and went with it. The buck had a dilemna, but either way he knew he was going to stick around to see how it all played out. The question was whether he should cast a vote like the others or abstain. To abstain was not in his nature, so the question remains if he played it safe and voted for one with the most votes or make an enemy and vote for another?
He glanced over at Fire Made Flesh and gave an apologetic shrug. "You have my vote as well."

Swamp Trees watched as the votes started being tossed out. She wasn't sure who to vote for. Wishing that she knew more about each to help weigh her choice a bit more, Swamp Trees just went with her gut feeling. "Fire Made Flesh"

Prying herself away from the comfortable spot, she took a few sideways steps and stood beside Apathy. Almost of similar heights, Kiss of Death just listened to the doe while being aware of the opinions that had been said around them. "Mhm. It's still early since this is just the first day," she responded, missing bits here and there as everyone talked over one another. It was just a garbled mess. "Like that doe," she paused as she heard Apathy vote for The Once and Future King, and continued, "Yes her, on top of the way she speaks, not voting sounded really strange."
"What's your name?" she asked the doe, "You seem to be doing just fine for a beginner." Kiss of Death wanted to smile telling her that she's doing alright, but she knew all too well that the way she smiled may come off as having a prey-like appearance that could lead to suspicions. In the end she just nodded and hoped to be able to stay alive for another day.
So many kin so many opinions. Are we casting votes on first impressions now? Or what? Creepy, odd looking kin are not of the norm. I'm not all that beautiful myself. It was difficult. Good looks she didn't have. Good speeches she didn't have either. From watching and listening, it was still impossible to identify which of them are not so innocent after all. The Once and Future King's opinion just gnawed at her as she stared at the doe from across the clearing.
He couldn't not smirk. So many people had focused on that decision not to vote. For the moment, at least, he decided a majority was a good way to go. "I, too, after consideration, vote The Once and Future King. It seems strange she'd wish us not to vote... After all, it just gives the wolves more time to pick others off if we don't remove some one."

Delirium gave a mad cackling giggle that was less of a laugh and more of a wheezing sound. Her tail flicked side to side as her eyes moved from kin to kin, amused at the ones that were already on the table. She slipped sideways, wobbled a little on her hooves, and flicked one ear forward.
"I think The Once and Future King is a lo------ovely choice," Delirium said, extending the last part of the word so that it came out slightly like a hiss. "She's funny."
Story stood and listened as best he could to the drumming noise of all the kin talking at once, and even managed to notice a doe start to flit his way like an excited hummingbird. Before he could will his body to move towards her a voice rang out loud and clear- The game had begun.
It took him quite a length of time to reach the crowd as they discussed and voted, but it had afforded him time to think about his choices and listen to the claims of the others. He'd even noticed a doe point and cast a vote in his direction! It would probably disturb others, but for him it was just a matter of this game that so easily mimicked the intricate dance of life. As he neared the group he cleared his throat and nodded to the others.
"My name is Story. Forgive me if this takes much time to get out- I shall do my best to leave this as short as possible." His voice creaked as he talked and breathed at the same time in a wheezing circular way, and his words came out at a slow crawl. "As living things it is natural for self-preservation to run our suspicious minds hot and eager to point at the first most obvious threat, and we should always strive to be better than our base instincts this is true." He aimed his attentions at the lyrical doe that all seemed to be voting for. "You were right in that regard," he slowly spun the words out. "To not vote, however, is just as damning as being a killer ..." He breathed and readied himself to speak as clearly and concisely as he could.
"My vote is forThe Once and Future King. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good kin to do nothing."

Wintershadow came to a conclusion almost all at once -- like he had suddenly awakened from a sort of a doze, listening to the conversation bandy back and forth. "I vote for The Once and Future King as well," he said, waiting until there was a lull in the conversation and then speaking in a musical way. "Voting for nobody is safe ... but we won't get anywhere, and it's the easiest way to play. Peep's right. At that point, why play at all?"
He nodded at the acha he'd mentioned and then turned a mild look on The Once and Future King. Surely she had expected this? Or maybe she had, but either way, it was more than just her rhyming words that had caught attention.

She'd been on the sidelines for some time, simply observing from the shadows. Doubleback entered the conversation. She took a look around at her fellow players before smiling. "Well we can certainly cast no vote so to speak, if we wish. And certainly, our chances of offing one of our own are higher now than they will ever be, so I cannot blame one for being unwilling to take that risk. But if we are to survive we must have people who can voice and opinion and stand by it." The nature of the first night, when everyone was unfamiliar and information scant, made it hard to decide a concrete plan. Doubleback thought that this night revealed the nature of the group, and theirs indeed seemed a bloodthirsty one.
Doubleback turned to study The Once and Future King. She did not particularly think the doe was guilty. Nor did she think her very smart. Speaking out had only made her a convenient target. "With 14 votes against you, I do not think you will survive the night, but we have learned much from this round of voting. It is so very easy to lead a bandwagon, is it not?" She found that so very suspicious. It would be very easy to start a bandwagon and off an innocent prey on the first night.
"As for me, I think I shall cast my vote for Neither Nor. After he voted for The Once and Future King, many were quick to follow in his footsteps without much explanation."
((Please quote me if you want a response from Doubleback. T__T))

"The disguises hold true, prey cannot tell wolf from friend. The first day is tense, they know not who to turn on. In the end, it is chance, or perhaps it is intuition, they cannot know, but they choose. They chase down The Once and Future King and her future is no more." Merry Wanderer gave a small nod to his daughter and gestured for her to step away from the game and take a place at the sidelines.
A pause, then he began again, "No one will sleep easily tonight. They have blood on their hooves and the wolves will hunt tonight, but sleep they must. So they all lay down and, though it is a struggle, they all eventually fall into a deep slumber."
Then a smile, "And now the wolves shed their stolen skins and take up the mantle of the hunt. Let the night begin."
For reference, the beginning ratio of the game is: 5:25, wolves:prey.

"The wolves head a back to their sleeping spots and pull their disguises back on. If any were to look in on our characters now, all they would see are prey, no wolves in sight." He circled the grove calmly as he spoke, eyes on the players, making sure that they were all 'asleep.' "Then they all wake. Bleary eyed and hardly rested, the scene is set for the second day."
"They can smell the blood in the air, so they follow it. Away and away they go, following the scent as it gets stronger and stronger until, there--" A dramatic pause and a feral grin, "Watch the Skies splayed on the ground, most of her gone except the sketch of limbs and her head tilted upward, propped up by a rock so that she might embody her name even in death."
He nodded at Watch the Skies and gestured for her to take her place next to The Once and Future King. "They collectively shudder and back away. The threat is very real now. Another day has begun and by the end of it, another would be dead, hopefully one who wished them harm."
Sorry! Watches the Skies can now only watch from the sidelines!

Snake shivered at Merry Wanderer's words, as though suddenly having caught a chill- and then, glancing at The Once And Future King, as well as Watch The Skies, the little flower reminded herself that it was, after all, only a game.
The air seemed to hum with anticipation, but Snake Flower would not be the first to speak tonight; instead she only gazed around at the circle of faces. Which one of them would be made to leave today? Which one of them would be taken tonight?

And there were kin who wanted to call him out for being too aggressive or unnecessarily violent? The dragon's gaze lingered on Watch a moment longer than it lingered on the poetic doe, but both were regarded with skepticism and a bit of hesitation. The reality of the "game" set in. Conscious of how he antagonized Snake Flower earlier, Flesh was uncharacteristically remorseful. The mechanics and survival within this game were more than enough to concern one's self with, without the added stress of a bully. But Flesh, also, remained silent for the time being.
