Anxious Spirit

PostPosted: Thu Oct 23, 2014 7:42 pm

To say Piper was giddy was like saying glitter was a sparkly nuisance: it was both obvious and an understatement. In spite of the fact that it would probably lead to awkward moments later, the ghoul hung on Brenley's arm, happy to stay close and let him lead as she babbled (it takes forever to get ready so they were lucky she was getting the process down, he looked so handsome, see smiling was totally cool, she was really surprised he didn't literally show up in a labcoat, by the way he looked nice, this night was gonna be super awesome just you wait). The memory of Brenley's smile when he saw first came to get her stuck in her head like she had pinned it there herself, with a fancy border and a glass frame and everything, titled: Friggen' Cutie. She'd twirled and everything just to let him have a look see before they left.

And now they were heeeeere. The doors were totally there and she totally wasn't alone and--

Piper swivelled her head to look at her date with wide eyes at the gift. For once she had forgotten to look expectant for one--being asked to the dance was in and of itself a nice gift. She watched it light up as Brenley explained and for once was at a loss for words.

Her mouth opened and closed a few times before she laughed and delicately took the hairpin, like she might actually find a way to set it on fire herself if she wasn't careful. "You kidding? I love it!" she exclaimed in a hushed tone, turning the object over to examine it more closely. A faint blush crept to her cheeks. "Unholy Jack, Bren, it's so cool..." Should she find the bathroom and put it on now? Keep it for later? Eventually Piper put it in her clutch purse just to be sure she wouldn't lose the gift and clasped it before her in both hands, suddenly self-conscious.

Lock had gotten her a nice bracelet for New Years, and Ignatius let her abuse his pinball machine. The most she had for them in return were bears from the festival, and Brenley's especially was the most random and half-hearted attempt because she had been simmering with envy over the attention his booth had been getting. Piper once again got a case of horrible friend-itis and shifted in place.

"You didn't have to give me anything, you know," she mumbled. "Don't get me wrong, like, seriously, you're awesome with these enchantments. But...y'know...
I've never gotten you presents or anything..."

Llyr felt Pachua's hand on his face and made a soft hum, turning his face into it. The happiness he felt was almost overwhelming; he thought he might melt from the sheer warmth and pleasure that was currently being radiated towards him.

"I am not sure how I managed to win your heart," he mumbled, and Llyr reached for Pachua's hand, lacing their fingers together. "But I am very, very grateful."

Barth had sent (in a surprisingly mostly-timely fashion) Zar a package prior to the event. The package contained a strange, shivery dress which must have cost a small fortune to enchant. It was draped, and silver, and moved between fabric and liquid, coiling ethereally around whoever touched it. It was cool at first, but warmed to skin, like a string of pearls.

There was also a small velvety box of jewelry, and a business card to an uptown salon. It said, in Barth's handwriting, the words, 'pre-paid'.

Barth's outfit was subtler, and complimentary. Christof had helped him with it. Fastening, and buttoning, and so on. The majority of the suit was a deep, drowsy, hazy black. It matched Zar's silver in highlights. Barth's cufflinks sported the mercury symbol.

When Barth showed up to Zar's door, he had been all congeniality, business, and compliments. He had given him easy smiles, but he had not kissed Zar's hand, or his cheek. Barth had dipped to kiss the mark seared into Zar's chest.

Barth also seemed unusually cheery. Outside the veneer of professionalism, Barth was genuinely looking forward to the event. The walk over was long, even with the skateboard. While not the most refined mode of transportation, waiting for Barth to walk would have taken up half the night. The music drifted over the campus, windows flashing with color.

Once they stepped inside, however, Zar would feel (via contact and his unique abilities) a sudden turn of gloominess.

Barth knew he shouldn't have been expecting much out of the theme. It was not a science conference, there would not be anything nearing functional or world-changing. Still. The floor was densely packed. He could not see chairs. The music went beyond heard to felt, and the sole bastions of science seemed to be the drinks table and the two tesla coils, which were really more atmosphere and drugs.

It was all a bit silly, and he was not sure why he felt personally...sort of offended by it. It was a party wearing Science's skin. He also felt a stab of what couldn't and shouldn't be hurt.

He thought of Christof asking him to come. What Christof had wanted to do once they got here, he wasn't sure. Not...not dancing, or kissing, probably, Jack. He needed a drink.

Deszeld was a quick study, and she had to admit that it was even a little fun. When she took Aisha's hand she began to move in just the way that the zombie did, though she barely heard the shouted words directed at her. It didn't matter anyway. The music was great, and Deszeld was actually enjoying herself - though, honestly, she always kept an eye out for the warder.

It was probably a good thing Mayaa had feathers and not fur, or else she would have found the shock anything but delightful. But Mayaa, being the strange ghoul she was, only let out a delighted shriek at the electricity coursing through her body, making her hair poof up like a Pomeranian after being towel dried, and even her feathers tingled slightly.
In fact, she would have kept dashing back in and out and constantly electrocuting herself for the fun of it were she not still clinging to Mellow.

After being introduced, Mayaa beamed, and waved eagerly at the zombie boil.
"Hi Shayne!"
She couldn't help but giggle at his reaction to Camilla, bobbing up and down.
"Camilla's really pretty, isn't she!"

Aisha wasn't totally naive. She knew that Holly's presence hung over the both of them. Deszeld wasn't exactly sneaky when her eyes intently stared out searchingly around them. Aisha's own thoughts were the opposite, to avoid the Warder, but the intention of each girl somehow matched.

The zombie felt that sudden flare of anger that whispered 'not fair', that made her want to have Holly feel just as bad as she did.

So she had as best a time she could with Deszeld, and left the other ghoul out.

After wandering about aimlessly trying to make herself look busy and not a nervous wreck (things were going well, right? No one better be causing trouble!), Mia took a deep breath, telling herself everything was JUST FINE, and she was worrying needlessly. Sure, it was their first event as student council, and sure, the photobooth seemed to still be on the fritz, but everything else was going just fine, right?
"Mia. You're worrying too much. Maybe you should try talking with some of the students."
Right, right, maybe she was just thinking about this too much. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and it seemed the date auctions worked out well too, despite some... confusions. Most of the other students seemed to have someone to mingle with, if not more, and maybe she was just worrying about this too much.
At least, that was what she thought, until she saw a lone ghoul wandering about, seemingly lost. Well, well, that just won't do!
Mia totally wasn't going to play matchmaker nope.

Approaching the ghoul, Mia was about to introduce herself, when she saw the creature behind her, and let out a delighted squeal.
"Oh! Is that your familiar?"

Zar's day had been extremely stressful. The dress was gorgeous and expensive, but it was also a dress. He had never really worn them, though he had helped his mother put on a great number of them in his youth. He did not have anyone to help him put on this one. The Incubus did not cope well with new things, his imagination was not very strong at the best of times and faced with new tasks without clear instructions he wanted to retreat from them.

In fact, as he made his way to the salon he found himself wishing that he could simply back out, that he could say he would not go to the dance and instead hide in his room in his unpinned form, away from the eyes of other people and away from trying to look attractive for a fairly unappreciative audience.

But he did not understand the mark and was slightly afraid of it, so he kept going regardless, choosing hairstyles he knew nothing about and decor he hoped would match but had no idea about either. He spent the day frazzled, trying to learn a hundred new things and to pretend it had been easy.

Standing in front of the mirror hours later, finally dressed and finally neat he felt like he was looking at some other shape, so far from himself as to be almost unrecognizable to his own eyes. He looked ethereal, tall, slender and slightly alien, his figure accentuated in slender curves, the dress low cut in all the right places. His horns, hooves and claws were plated with a chrome like silver and even his markings faded to glittering silver edging. He moved differently, his tail low to the ground, sleek and effortless, hips swaying as he placed his hooves daintier, more carefully as not to stumble, he held his horns high. Attractiveness came easily to him, even if nothing else would.

When Barth kissed the mark there had been a twist of emotion or sensation, he could not tell which, and he did not understand if it had been the mark itself or simply his own mind.

He provided the rest of his tail to ease the burden of movement for Barth, something to prop him up or lean on.

The link on Zar's end was dead and cold, locked off lest Barth perceive any hint that Zar felt anything other than pleasant confidence. Outwardly he seemed to be in a good mood himself, a little proud and triumphant that he had made it to this point, out in public.

He noted the other demon's response to the dance itself but did not understand the reason, so of course he made up a hundred, a thousand other reasons he could feel that way. Zar himself was simply impressed, finding the blacklight gorgeous, his own colours brought out stark and vivid against the black. Even the tesla coils were like nothing he had seen, fascinating and beautiful in equal measure.

But once again, as always, he pushed down his sentimental admiration as deeply inappropriate and returned his focus to being as pretty as he could possibly be.

"Something the matter?" he asked coolly, though he didn't really want to know the answer.

Barth opted for the easiest of the answers.

"They've taken out the chairs. Again," he mourned. "If your feathered friend had been elected we could have talked to her about it. I'm starting to think the conspiracy theories have some merit."

The sadness seemed to reach a little deeper than rest stations. Although rest stations were a very personal topic for Barth.

"And I...suppose I'd hoped- for a smidge more science, ha. But that's...ridiculous, really, I-" The thoughts became detached. Barth could not close off with smooth emotional efficiency, the same way Zar did.

"Anything you'd like to try?"

AJ
"Oh... I hope you have great fun in this then. A fans of Jack Skellington? He's really awesome and the myths about him are fun. So you are from a wealthy family, do you have maid or butler of you own then?" AJ asked with a harmless smile, nothing pushy or sharp, just a curious friend wanted to know more of another new friend. "I come from a middle-income family, an oasis surrounded in desert, but it's modern, like Halloween Town but bigger.

The boil chuckled freely at the ghoul's comforting words, so cute Camilla was. "Thank you, but I am the type that dresses stylish but makes explosions and chemical splashes a lot, look at my lab coat, I think soon I need to get a new one." The boil first frowned at the trouble then winked impishly towards the dormouse. "See, AJ! See? I said this glasses will fit me so well, though it's weird to see things in horizontal stripe. Hehe, AJ, you will look like a prisoner if the stripes are darker in color." The Head giggled and had its head moved up and down. "This handsome boil here is Dwa, Dwa the handsome Head!" It proudly gave out its name.

"Hmm... the photo booth, sounds like a good idea, others too." The boil was amused by how cheerful and excited the ghoul was, she was so eager to try them all. "You know where they were, lead the way please, my lady." AJ seldom reject a request from ladies, so he said with a grin and gestured his partner. The tangled relationships brought by this auction entertained his in many ways, so his mood was extremely great.

Talking about partners, how about the two of him? He had texted them but no replies so far, he was a bit worried and decided to send another one later or even go to pick them up. There, he noticed he missed two texts from the witch.

He quickly typed one back just didn't want Maple to think she was ignored.

Quote:
Text to Maple:
Wow little witch, that's a big lovely surprise! I am proud of you. Now you enjoy the time with them, I will get to you later. By the way, who are they? ;D

AJ made a startled face as he read the messages from Maple, knowing she bade on three creeple and won. He was so happy for her though surprised alittle, but not happy that she was cheated by the nasty wolf. That was why he asked for the remaining creeple to see if there would be anymore dangers for Maple. Maple is cute and adorable, she would definitely attract boils' attention but she was quite gullible and innocent at the same time that she trusted easily, it made the serpent dragon worried.

Putting the phone back into pocket, AJ followed after Camilla and assisted her when she stumbled, poor ghoul, that pair of boots didn't look quite comfortable to her.

no worries!

At first Verusha hadn't even registered the squeal, hardly ever used to it being aimed at her, thus she assumed it was chick excited about seeing their ghoulfriend or something...

But when Cannon started to give a low, displeased growl, the ghoul peered over her shoulder to see that someone had taken a fancy to the firey pup. Smirking smugly, she turned herself around, "Well of course he is." she confirmed cooly, the firey glowing eyes from the canine brighter, and his snarl peeled back to reveal those ever sharp rows of fangs. Verusha was always amused by how defensive, and displeased her companion got when it came to strangers, his flames licking off his body a little higher than before as he stood protectively in front of the ghoul he was bonded to.

"Pretty awesome, isn't he?" she confidently, yet in jest, stated.

As she got closer to the door her excitement grew it was harder and harder to keep her tail from waving itself back and forth almost like a dog wagging with joy. As the familiar sight of the boil came into view Kier waved and greeted him with a grin to match his own excitement. She laughed as she returned Van’s high five, “Thanks, you look pretty handsome yourself tonight.” She didn’t mind his endless energy or his habit that he didn’t seem capable of standing still for very long; it was fun and something new.

“Yea well I saw your hightops the other day and I have a closet full of them sooo I thought it would be perfect to wear them.” She looked at as he mentioned her playing bass and realized something was a little different with his face. “OH cool I really love your face paint it really glows in the black light.” There was a huge grin on her face, as he looked closer at it, it was way better than the paint she tried to do.

“OH well… Oh how about a photo! I think there is a photobooth around right? Maybe we could do that first and then dance?” Jumping a little she hoped that he wouldn't mind not dancing right off the bat.

Mellow

If Mellow knew what the Harpy was thinking, he would push her to the coils happily, then he could be freed like a pony. Excuse me, he should use "bird"? He's an equine, why he has to use "bird"? Anway, that was a "if" clause, so the poor pony boil still had his arm grabbed by Mayaa, as if he was a big fat prey. He still remembered Trisha and her made him the rope of the tug-o-war in the last xmas, suffered from the tackle attack and ribbon spam, they were super effective on the pityful Mellow. As a boil, his pride completely shattered.

The muscles of his face relaxed and the glasses slid down along his nose again, ".....Friend, don't scare away...." He warned the Harpy, considering how crazy the ghoul was, she might scare the shy boil away. Since Mellow was locked in her arm, the dramatic movements of Mayaa affected him too, as he swung like a boat in an ocean.

"...Want to text her?" He gently asked Shayne, after the ocean was calm again, one o the temples hanged normally while the other one went up to his head, hair in a mess. NO MORE FRIEND SUPPORT NEXT TIME! My hair, my fur are all so messy now. Mayaa you need to know what monster force you have okay? orzllll It's not fairrrrrrr!

"They aren't theories." Zar said. "They are facts. But it hardly matters does it? My tail is hopefully an acceptable seat if the need arises." He felt a little out of his depth, there were a lot of people here, it would be very easily to accidentally brush against someone in passing and end up burdened with their own feelings about the event.

The being a little out of his depth turned into a lot as Barth mentioned feeling the event did not have enough science. It was something he could not fix or adapt to, some aspect where even as malleable as he was he couldn't shape to make it any better.

"How would you add more science to an event of this nature?" he asked, but it was with slightly more hopelessness than he would have otherwise liked.

"And erm. I..well .." His enthusiasm was put away on its shelf. "I don't know." If it was really as disappointing as Barth was making out, he wasn't about to be excited about it.

He looked at Zar, feelings softening a tad. He smiled with one side of his mouth at facts. "No, it's- you're right, it's just a theme, like- window dressing. It's not a...conference or an exposition. The chairs were...a personal vendetta. Between myself and another demon. I'm sure the current situation is just some sort of-" he sighed, "now-meaningless tradition. An inconvenient one. I'm...relieved to hear- are you sure I can use it? I know it can be...sensitive."
