Canaan watched in disbelief as their lands were invaded. This should never happen! The blood boiled in his veins as his eyes darted around, trying to quickly access the situation. His first order of business would be to deal with this mare who was in the closest proximity.
Canaan stepped in front of Dupstep protectively, but leaving Wynter at his side, unfurling his wings menacingly. He was pleased that Wynter was willing and eager to defend these lands, and he thought with her horns and Kalona heritage, she would probably be a good fighter.
"If you leave now, you can leave with your life," he growled.

Seance's bounced on her hooves, like a little filly waiting in anticipation for a treat. "You guys think you can win? Really? Wow, that's so cute," she laughed; a disturbingly delightful, childlike laugh.
She didn't flinch at Wynter's horns, or Canaan's threat. Instead, she suddenly lurched forward, shadowy coils and sharp hooves lashing out at the grey mare. She did her best to avoid the horns, but she felt them catch on her shoulder; though she didn't let the sudden impact of pain stop the enthusiasm of her attack
Barghest snarled at the warning the bird had given him. She may have been a bird, but was not like his raven, Omen, or the bird-like pinions on his back. She was an eagle, a Thunderbird. A bird of war. He had heard the screeching of eagles before deciding to attack. Was it possible he had misinterpreted the signs... No... no it could not be. But still, Barghest found himself very glad that his closest friend in the herd, Ixchel, had not come along.
He snarled and snapped, but the mare was dodging and weaving expertly. And suddenly there was not one but two furious mares confronting Omen. The winds were shifting and Barghest did not care for these odds.
His ears flattened on his head. They were all very, very high up. Any injury up here that resulted in damage to a wing could be deadly.
He made one more attempt. A straight shot towards the bird-mare, and feinting at the last moment, one of the mouth-like shapes on his wings going to clamp down on her wing as he passed.

Maelstrom hadn't quite felt like herself in a long time. She alternated between feeling listless and resorting to her filly-like agression ever since her life seemed like it had fallen apart. Her lifemate, the stallion she had trusted, had left her and the herd. And her sister - always the angry mare who had been in her happy shadow now had turned the tables. After a defiant fling, she had met Frost, who seemed to be nothing but the most genuine, upstanding wind stallion. And suddenly, she realized why her sister had seemed to harbor jealousy towards her all those years.
She felt alone. Angry. Depressed. And angry again.
She almost didn't notice when the air seemed to grow charged with energy and skirmishes began to break out amid the herdgrounds. Not until she looked up and saw Outsiders. Many of whom seemed to be mixed-bred mongrels without wings. All of that anger suddenly had an outlet and the fiery, angry filly was back - with something to do. Her ears flattened as she set her sights on a brownish stallion with colorful skull-like markings with a snort.
"How... How DARE you invade our territory!?" She shriked as she charged the stallion.

The spirits had chosen an opponent for him, Xibalba thought with twisted glee as a pale, winged mare charged him with a heart of fury. But he did not meet her with a snort or even a challenge, but a boisterous laugh. Xibalba almost never let anger consume him. Life was too entertaining, too deliberate to get mad. He followed the spirits and trusted them to guide him towards what he was meant to do.
Unfortunately, what he was meant to do today, it seemed, was get struck on the left shoulder hard with a well-placed hoof. Maelstrom had delivered a pointed blow with her front hoof as she came in for a landing before him.
Xibalba staggered back, dazed. He had never taken such an injury before. His shoulder throbbed and ached, bruised deeply. He had visited pain on others before, immune to most acts of conscious as he followed the spirits' directions - especially sometimes when his mind seemed to stray farther than usual. But an outright confrontation with someone equally matched. Xibalba had no idea what he was in for.
He shook his head with a wince. And he swore he heard voices whisper to him through the rainbow miasma that clouded his eyes now, Help her fulfull her part in life. Aim for the red.
Xibalba focused on the swirl of colors that was impossible to see through at the moment and followed the instruction of the voice in his head and stuck out at the area of the rainbow that was the most read. The impact was hard and fleshy, and made a satisfying whinny of pain.

Wynter was glad that Canaan had stepped up beside her to face Seance. A shiver of apprehension had washed over her in stepping up to declare her challenge. She was still new to the lands. Would her help be appreciated? Her gaze flicked to the side to watch Canaan when she had lowered her horns. However it seemed though as if her horns were no deterrent to Seance. She felt a wave of fear strike her as Seance came on with her hooves flailing. Why wasn't she stopping?
As Wynter felt her horns catch on the mare's shoulder a sudden flare of pain erupted near her wing joint and Wynter let out a whinny of pain. Her tail whipped forward in a sudden arc towards Seance in a reflex action.

Not sure if putting it in the spoiler tag alerts you or not. Sorry if I've double quoted.
Taraxippus strode out onto the battlefield, brimming with confidence and reveling in the chaos that brewed around him. This is what he had wrought. This is the battle he had been orchestrating before he knew who would even be the target of his mighty herd. A wind stirred the shadow-stuff of his body as he stood, poised, and grinning, watching the combatants pair up and begin to strike blows. He was fully confident in the capabilities of the army he had built. He felt like a conductor, his dark horn directing the music of war itself.

Suddenly, Arcana saw a sight that sent her spirialing back into a dark place in her life. Nestled down deep in the clovers in her tiny form, Taraxippus didn't spot Arcana as he strode by her. But Arcana saw him - his massive by comparison shadowy hoof pass overhead. It was like nightmares that the mare had had before. Her "big brother" looming over her, mocking her, laughing at her. So nightmarish was the situation that it almost didn't feel real.
Her heart trembled in her chest as she drew quick, shallow breaths. It had been years since she had even seen him. And she had never fully dealt with that part of her life. She had run away when she learned about her REAL family. So that unresolved past clung to her like Tara's shadows.
"no..." she whispered in a tiny voice as the long, shadowy, leonine tail passed over her head with a flick. "No." She repeated, just marginally louder. She wasn't going to let him steal her present away from her.
"NO!" She screamed, her form flickering again and resolving back into her full, though still dimunitive, size directly behind Taraxippus, who turned, with an air of smirking bemusement.

As thunder crashed overhead, a full blown electrical storm begining to churn the skies, Balrog tore free of his roost and sent a bellowing whinny echoing across the skies to rival the crash of thunder.
How DARE intruders challenge his herd? How DARE lessers and demons try to take HIS lands - herdgrounds that he and his mate had selected and defended for years.
Somewhere, in his gut,he knew the skinwalker had something to do with this. But he didn't see the vixen or her monstrous cohort. It didn't matter. He scoured the figures clashing all around him, looking for where to first come to aid.

Lamia flew towards the spotted stallion with fire and rage. This was for family.
He looked like he didn't know what to do. He met her with words when she was coming at him with force. Words were all well and good, but they could not stop hooves or teeth.
Oh how she wished it was sweet foal flesh that she bit into and not a pelt thick with maturity. But still, oh what a lovely noise he made as she bit down with her sharp teeth. Her eyes flashed as she met his eyes, letting him see the callous disregard she had for him as she bit deeper into his shoulder.

Aspen had never been in a real fight before. He'd been nicked and scratched here and there in his normal duties of the herd. He'd taken a fall when learning to fly for the first time, and he had even caught a glancing claw once when chasing a cougar from the herdgrounds. But never this. Never a blow delivered with hate and malice from another fully grown soquili. Aspen screamed a bellowing whinny as the mare clamped down with sharpened tooth into the meat of his shoulder and stared at him right in the eyes as she bit down, a squelch of blood and crunch of flesh that sounded almost as bad as it felt.
It was more instinct than tactics as Aspen reared up, flaring his wings, trying to dislodge the mare as he lashed out with his front hooves.

Legion cackled happily as he watched the battle commence. He wasn't as eager to put himself at risk, despite his fearsome appearance. But, he wasn't above taking some cheap shots. The white and pink angeni came into the fray, he wasn't content to just sit and watch.
As he flew into the fray, Legion took action; lashing out with his main mouth and the two "mouths" at the top of this wings. He attempted to bite down hard on the wing of the would-be hero, with the wing-mouths striking quickly like snakes.
This would not do at all. Stormfall watched as the third intruder launched himself into the air towards Rephaim. In the effort to come to her aid it seemed as though Rephaim had inadvertently drawn all her attackers to him instead. It was obvious that something had gone amiss with her winged companion and although she was worried with the realization the mare realized that it was up to her to untangle the mess she had gotten her herd mate into.
Launching herself into the air Storm felt her wings beat against the air creating lift. Her gaze sought out all three of the enemy before she made a split-minute decision about whom to go after. With her wings pumping hard Stormfall changed her trajectory to barrel towards the stallion that seemed intent on biting Rephaim. If she could take out one enemy she was sure Rephaim could handle the others. As the distance between them shortened Stormfall braced herself for what she believed was going to be a painful impact.
Megaera didn't even stop as she made her fly-by attack against Stormfall. She didn't want to leave herself open. while the blow was glancing, she hoped it would leave the mare at least a little addled. She continued her large arc, swooping back up and angling around to see - only now - the results of her attack. The brown mare was still up, and worse yet, she was headed for her son, Infernum, who was engaging the larger spotted stallion.
Her ears laid back as she followed the alicorn mare, hoping to strike her again from behind in another fly-by attack.

The strange winged eye in her mouth, grasped tightly by a wing, Psyche headed to the ground, landing hard in her hurry with a muffled 'ooph' around the creature. She could fly, but with her flutter-hybrid wings, she was not as graceful as many of her other winged herdmates.
She leaned over, placing the creature on the ground and before she released it from her mouth, she placed a hoof onto the other wing, applying just enough pressure -she hoped - to keep it pinned but not break its wing.
Her yellow eyes shone with curiosity as she examined the creature. How bizarre - how did it work? How did it eat? She nudged it with a hoof.
"Do you speak?" She asked it. "You may wish to do so now..." She added threateningly, almost as a second-thought, remembering she was at war here.

At the final moment, the Dark four-winged stallion veered, and Malfeas's horn missed it's mark (he had hoped to pierce the angeni's chest, driving his horn into the stallion's heart. What a glorious triumph that would have been!) Instead, his horn caught the stallion in the shoulder - just barely missing the target. He grinned, long fangs flashing in the light as he felt the hot blood splash over his face. His tongue darted out, tasting his sweet reward. He could TASTE the holy angeni blood in this stallion. But he lacked the regal presence, the little accoutrement wings of a TRUE angeni. He could not use the holy light against him. He might LOOK the part of an angeni, but that's likely all it was. Show.
Now he spoke as his wings snapped open again, catching him and carring him in a broad arc back around to face the stallion for a second pass, "Weak Angeni-imposter. Where is your real power? Perhaps I should strip those extra wings from you, all the good they do you? "
