On the outer reaches of Wonderland Ash came to the Lost Temple, thanks to her pocket card. It was an impressive place.
Not one for staying static the cat strode to the orb she could see on the other side of the pool. But while she was walking in the water she started daydreaming. If she was more powerful she would ...! Oh she would do so many things.

Slowly the walls faded and transformed into a new scene. Ash was getting used to those dream-like occurrences since they seemed to happen so often here. Well, it was a dream world, what did she expect!
Anyway she was quite mesmerized by what she could see happening in front of her.

She can see someone, standing tall and proud. Herself. That's her, but more powerful than anyone else. Sure, she's not physically the strongest, she never wanted to be. Just imagining herself with bulky muscles and a big sword gave her the nausea. But being the most nimble and clever, no one could catch her. She would be completely free and that was pure power for her.
She was almost drooling at the possibilities ! Escaping easily the monsters roaming about, like the Jabberwok of Tulgey Woods, and pulling pranks on whomever she wanted to! Napping in the places no one else could reach... That would be a cat's perfect life.

And just as she could feel it under her fingers that power - she snapped out of her trance like state. It wasn't power she was feeling, only the surface of the orb she didn't remember reaching. With a sigh she let the item go. One day, maybe one day she would be the most powerful.

Big reappeared in a cavernous room, ankle deep in warm water. It might have been nice if he had been able to prepare for it, but to arrive without warning, his shoes and tights largely soaked, was far from a pleasant experience. Luckily, there was an orb up ahead that took his mind off of most of his troubles, even the 'bisected by a malicious A.I.' kind. It reminded him of a sunset, all orange and gold, and he moved toward it almost in a trance as the room around him wavered and faded away.

He held the lives of every sentient being in the universe in his hand. Balms, restoratives, poisons, spirits, medicines, household remedies, they all came through him and, therefore, he controlled them all. No one could live without Quinn Industries, not even humans, and that wasn't simply a turn of phrase. No one could live without Q.I. No one could live without him.

When he touched the orb, Big finally remembered to breathe again. This place had left him more confused than ever about where he was going and who he wanted to be, but he couldn't dwell. He knew where he was going now. He had to go kill a queen.

Adventuremaster had arrived at the temple with Rex, both of them finding that their pocket cards had gone absolutely bat s**t as it let them know it was time to up their job class. Adventuremaster was surprised to see that he had somehow gotten to level 27 at this point, having not really felt like he'd done much throughout the game. Sure it had started out exciting, but he had gotten bored of it quite quickly.

They decided to check it out, and standing at the edge of the water together, adventuremaster turned and grinned down at the other man. "Ya you do that, princess. Let me know if there are any sharks in the water." He was fine to let Rex go on ahead. Absolutely fine.

Once the other was about half way across, however, he went out into the water as well, not noticing any funny stuff going on ahead.

And then he felt it. The further he walked, sloshing through the water, the more he felt the power that was calling to him. It was a power to cast them all away, everyone that he felt threatened by. Not by their strength or intimidation, but by how much they cared. He could throw them all away, he could be alone, and he would no longer have to worry.

He would never have to worry again.

He found himself in front of the orb, back beside Rex who had been there for some time already, but not even looking at the other man as he let his own hand rest on the orb.

And that was it. So simple. He grew wings. His job class was upgraded. The power that he wished to possess was just...gone. Gone, but not forgotten.

"Alright princess. Done. Let's get out of here."

The water was cold as it seemed into her boots, but she pushed that thought aside. She hadn't come here to the Lost Temple to complain. She had come to ascend; to achieve something more and to obtain what she hadn't thought possible. She had blundered her way through Wonderland, lost and mostly alone up until the last day where she had found herself in the company of others... Others...

That was how it had happened the last time she had experienced something like this. She had been so alone, one of many, and had reached out to a few to gain more.

Now it was up to her. Now she was on her own again.

As her fingers brushed against the orb she closed her eyes, letting her mind wonder to thoughts of other places; strong places, powerful beings. She could be one of them. She just had to reach and bring it in.

Power to the young harpy meant strong wings and sharp talons. It meant a loud voice capable of projecting across the battlefield. It meant knowledge of ones enemy and of a multitude of weapons.

Power to the young harpy now in Cheshire form meant longer claws, the ability to phase in and out, quick cat-like reflexes. It meant being where she was needed, not necessarily where she was expected.

When she opened her eyes she had changed. Her coloration had remained the same, but the cards that she had made her way up to the orb with had taken on a new form; an evolved form. She flexed her claws with a grin, eyes gleaming with a bit of madness as her form began to fade in and out. This.... Was going to be a grand new adventure.

The beeping of the pocket card didn’t catch Mitfael’s attention for a while until the sound become ridiculously loud over the course of time. Not really too kin nor too annoyed to answer, the Gryphon could clearly see that a new quest has appeared. Though, the quest seems relatively different than the usual – They have acquired the level limit for something.

For what?

Curious, Mitfael followed the instructions and successfully makes his way to the temple. However, what lies ahead is still a mystery. Well, he’ll worry about the dangers of the place when he gets there.

Treading up the stairs wasn’t the hard part.

No, it was the water. Treading through the liquid, it was nothing abnormal, just ridiculously hard to tread through with his outfit now dragging him down in weight. Yet, it wasn’t until the room begins to blur did Mitfael realize something was up.

His carelessness was probably to blame.

Power. What was power?

It was a statement, a status of being superior, to stand above. However, power is not necessary a good thing – it is something that easily corrupts and yet it is a necessity for without it, one cannot fight in physical and metaphorical terms.

In other words – his opinion of power is simply that it is a necessary evil. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Gryphon blinked.

When did he…? Never mind, he can dwell on it later. Squinting at the glowing orb, he reached out.

It shimmered for a moment, her pocket card had beeped, she tapped it and then found herself in this large cavernous room with others. She felt the cool water lap at her tail. It wouldn't have been bad but she was wearing adorable boots.

"...my...shoes"

Was all she managed as she slowly lifted one foot out of the water and then the other. Shaking her head she suddenly sees the grand staircase it seemed to call to her speak to her. So she followed not the screaming voice in her head but the sudden pull. The pull of power. Closing her eyes as she let the sensation roll over her, the room had suddenly seemed a little more blurry and dull, but power.

Power is what slowly replaces the screaming voice, the power to help the power to protect. She would finally be able to protect what she held dear the power only grew the closer she got to the orb. Scanning the images that she frantically was trying to hold on to she noticed a few cards laying there around the orb. Touching the one that read Dormouse it sprang to live and revealed three cards.

“Choose...”

Looking them over carefully she finally picks two that she thinks would help her in keeping her loved ones safe

The pocket card alerted him to the availability of another quest. This one spouted something akin to being a 'lost temple' which was an interesting thought on its own. Didn't lost temples typically try to stay lost? Or perhaps they were simply better off that way? Whatever the reason, he thought he would check it out - somehow, he wasn't entirely surprised that the lost temple was really not much more than an orb in the middle of a large body of water.

Well, it was too late now - all he had to do was plunge forward, so to speak. It didn't look deep anyway, so he didn't really fear drowning. Besides what was the worst that could happen? Respawn in another area? Please. He dealt with way worse way more often back home.

So into the water he went, the surprisingly cold liquid moving lazily against his legs as he waded through the pool, heading towards the only active thing in this whole area: the orb. As he approached it, he realized that his surroundings were changing to something a little strange to him: it was himself, but not really. He was fighting something off - a giant centipede, perhaps? He couldn't tell much more than that, only that is was rather large, intimating, and had apparently already taken down quite a few other hunters: their bodies lay all around his feet, and only he remained.

It was power, he realized. The sort of power one acquired that made them feel less useless, or less of a drain of resources. The sort of power he wanted, if he were being honest with himself.

He hadn't realized that he had come across the orb until he nearly walked into it. His gaze had been on the scene unfolding before him, not on his destination. He reached out to touch the orb after the vision had faded, and felt a rather peculiar surge of power...

Curiosity over her pinging little card in her pocket drew her to the temple, and while it was curiosity that continued to push her down the path, it was also a good sense of accomplishment that rose her head up. About time she found something like this! In the games her darling played this was always where they had some silly little ceremony to get more powers or something, she wasn't entirely sure since she hadn't always paid attention, but she was glad to finally have found this place.
Without wasting any time she hurried up the path, appreciating the lay out of everything but quite ready to just be done she practically ran up the path. Once the stairs had been cleared she found a small reservoir of water with the exit at the end. Loathe as she was to get wet, she at least understood it was just a game.
Still, she eased herself into the water, just in case...

As she pushed through the small ripples and waves that broke against her form, Tacel found herself daydreaming of being a bit better. In an instant she was transported back to a wide public space, a city square full up of people. The girl stood at the head alongside a tall man, her head heavy with the weight of something that seemed to fit her perfectly. She smiled at the citizens and waved gently, feeling bashful but grateful for the turn of things.
A great evil had been defeated, with her help. Of course she had not done it alone, but she had been awarded a great honor in the battle and had thus further earned her title. The man next to her beamed down at her, flourished greatly and the crowd erupted into cheers. Tacel laughed behind one hand, but it could not hide her delight at being Queen once more alongside her beloved King.

The scene broke when her hand folded around the orb and she sighed, having wished it would continue on for a bit longer. Maybe one day she could return to that idea, if she were very lucky...

The pocket guide whizzed him away to somewhere new, a floating island with a rather grand staircase that led up to a pool with an orb. Taking the first few steps into the pool was cold as the water started to soak his shoes and then his pants. He hadn’t even thought of the fairy wings that lingered on his back until the edges skimmed along the top of the cool water sending out small pools of ripples. Power, it was a question reeling in his mind as he continued to tread along.

What would he do if he had more power…
Matt could see himself, standing in the hallway with a long white coat on a clipboard easily held in hand as he waved to a girl in a flowered dress. A woman in scrubs walked up to him saying something as he looked at the clipboard and pointed in a direction. A goal he had never succeeded, but it had always been a goal of power to Matt but incredibly different from the power of control. There was no doubt he wanted to be in charge of a hospital but it wasn’t for his own sake, it wasn’t for the money or the means to tell others what to do it was for their sake. There was a need, a desire to help others, and with more the more he could do in return.

It was selfish in the sense of gratification.

But it was the his only dream of power.

The vision faded as he stood in front of the orb, reaching out he touched it.

Power for Zar meant everything, it meant freedom to stand on his own, to protect those who needed protecting. It meant that he'd be useful and functional rather than a failure and a disappointment. He stepped into the water with a hesitation borne of a time when he had feared water, scared to get his paper covered wings wet. But he had shed those as he had shed his youth, ripped it out with his own claws in the pursuit of something greater. He had fallen as low as it was possible to fall and yet he still lived and that in itself was a strength. Here in this strange dream world he had experienced success that he had never experienced in the waking world. He had gotten to be a hero, he had gotten married. For a brief shining instant he had felt important and confident and like things would somehow ultimately work out.

The walk felt a long long way as the room around him faded away replaced by a castle, grand and luxurious, not his own tastes but tastes he'd come to appreciate. And he could feel the power run in him, lazy and languid strength that lurked deceptive in claws and tail and teeth. A well-tamed monster that came when called, that came at the end of things, that became the finale of every well practiced encounter. In this place he was valuable, an important tool, a cog in the greater machine that he had always longed to be, dangerous and yet refined. No more did he have to hide behind a front of sniveling cowardice but in this place he could be the seductive, sultry creature he really was and no one cared to stop him.

Power was freedom, power was necessary to be worth anything to anyone in this world and he knew that now.

He reached out to touch the orb and his appearance changed. More. Muchier.

And he had a weapon too.

Just getting out of the weird round room with the repeating doors, he figured he'd just keep wandering around the castle. Likely to only get lost again. That his Pocket Card started to beep, and he of course pressed the button... well. All that sort of threw his plans right out the window. He was standing on an island. An island in the sky. He wandered up the stairs, bewildered and awed. With awesome architecture and a really pretty reflecting pool--or was it deeper than that? He let out a low whistle, amazed by the view he was getting from there. He checked the card. Lost Temple?

Cool.

Didn't take him long to spot the orb at the other end of the reflecting pool, nor for his attention to focus purely on it. He.... wanted it. Made sense that he'd jump into the water moment he could, coat and boots and pants waterlogged soon enough. This place was for when people got strong enough, right? He grinned, suddenly proud to be wading through the water. He was strong enough! That was pretty amazing. But, that orb would make him stronger. Which... was a pretty cool concept. He'd never been the strongest before . . .

He grinned as fragments of a vision came into place. His family. His friends. The snow glistened, swirled around him. He barely had to move a finger, glance in a direction, barely think a thought... and the snow and ice moved to his very will. He knew the sort of storms he could brew up if he spoke the words. He knew the words to make them stop. Freeze the ocean before him, or help the ice recede to allow creeple to fish and sail. One broke away from the others. Warmth in ice and snow. An arm went around his waist, and Aquilo turned, grinning and allowing the snow to fall soft and steady around them. He could almost see that smirking face through the haze on his glasses . . .

Power gave him what he wanted. Partridge grinned as he stood at the orb, taking hold of it. Feeling the new power flowing through him. Power could give him a lot more, too.

Barth reclines, and admires his handi-well, not work. He wouldn't say work. Not the fruits of labor, either. Rather, the decay of labor fruits. The end of that sort of thing.

Machines turn the world, and to control machines, well that isn't very much work at all.

Convenience is a button press away. Death, war, destruction, these too are simplified from mere trigger squeezes to a tap of an enter key. He has not personally built the machines, no, those were built by other machines, and other machines, and so on. The world is a city of comfort and ease, a nation of watching, a nation who has the luxury to indulge in all the other vices at their leisure, and there is nothing more insidious than the creeping allowance of crossing one line, then the next. Who wants the danger of freedom over safety? Controlling your own life, making responsible decisions, being actually informed at what's going on around you, all these things are so...difficult. And where are you going to get it anyway, your own things? Buy, eat, reproduce, consume, and on and on it turns, until their lives have decayed away into a bubbling black mire, spent on nothing very worthwhile at all, more grist for the mill.

And they have given it all to Him willingly...

Nod pauses, with one slim hand over the glowing orb. The vision is very strange. And he is not sure if it belongs here. But he takes the orb, and it writhes like a light into his hands, worming out and forming a very, very sharp edge.

His cape grows and grows and grows behind him, and while it is not thorns, it does have a certain...flair.

He had been fighting a plant, but right after he collected his loot the game warped him. All around were running water falls and a huge lake of clear water. Confused, he pulled his PDA out and read the instructions. Class up? He had done it? Filled with pride, the Gryphon began to walk through the water.

As he did, the world became hazy and odd. Suddenly in front of him ppeared a man. HH was afraid at first and recoiled. It couldn't be Master. The game wouldn't do THAT to him, would it? But then he realized it was only himself. He was wearing different clothes, but looks stronger, more confident, and a little happier. The dreamed self nodded to his present self and walked beside him.

When HH touched the orb he was surrounded by light. It burst away with a pop, like a light bulb dying, leaving only himself in the new clothes of his Royal Gryphon. He selected his cards and left. Powerful, more confident... And yes, a little happier.

As Harlow wandered the temples she heard a small noise from her pocket card. She cringed a little, everytime she heard that it was because it was about to tell her to something... Well cringe worthy. This strange dream land that she was in never seemed to end and it was just one odd adventure after another. This temple seemed pretty harmless on the bright side me she was hoping it would sty at that way.

Her pocket card chimed and encouraged her to touch the orb across the water it explained it was so she could level up. That sounded like a strange idea but she was going to go with it. She peered over the edge of where she was standing and into the water. It looked harmless enough, she figured there wasn't anything that was going to jump out at her and eat her. She as hoping not anyway.

She started to wade through the water heading toward the otherwise. As she did she felt an overwhelming sense of power. That power felt amazing. She felt like the strongest and smartest person there was out there. There really wasn't anyone that could out wit or our battle her. It was amazing but most importantly she felt free. As she neared the edge of the water toward the orb she had a moment of thought, it was tempting to stay in the water for a very long time but she knew that something bad would come out of it. She felt like there was sketching bad that came out of almost everything in the world.

She pulled herself out of the water and touched the orb leveling up as she did. The thing was she kind of wanted the power back but she was sure that one day she would have it.

User ImagePromptly after slicing an angry tree to toothpicks for no apparent reason, other than she could, F3V3R found herself using the Pocket Card to access the Lost Temple. It was on a floating island, covered in water: pretty reminiscent of her quest for Artifacts, really. Except somehow less sinister, and just kind of pretty. The Tree hadn't been hard to kill, but it had still wasted some of her precious time, probably time she'd saved when in Around and ARound she had somehow magically gotten through the rightish door on her first try. Not even going to mention the abhorrent locked rose room.

She waded through the water towards the exit, and as the room blurred she saw herself alone in a hill of black thorns that rose up into the sky. The smoke below her obscured everything, but she knew: she knew that she had fought her way to the top of this mound of thorns, and she would never meet a challenger she could not defeat with a single blow. She didn't even have to lift a finger, if she wanted.

In fact, she would likely never see another challenger again: her power was so formidable that her loneliness, for once, was out of the fear of others, rather than something she'd brought upon herself. The absolute power to destroy, and to exact her revenge. The vision faded, and she felt a little apprehensive with the severity of it all. Nevertheless, she was at the orb, and felt herself upgrade.
