Siddie had been studying extremely hard this term. Her penstrictor and the paper seemed to be in perfect harmony, and the entire test seemed simply to flow from her mind straight through her hand and onto the quiz.

She was quite confident that she'd destroyed this quiz. In a non-literal kind of way.

The dude with the long, multi-jointed, glisteningly wet fingers was really ******** unnerving. When he started quietly stalking towards Nahm, the grue hid a shudder, pulled his hood a bit tighter, and silently pointed out a kitsune student with very large ears.

He sighed quietly with relief as the guy changed course, a disturbing glitter in his eyes. When a shriek of horror sounded from that direction, Nahm silently thanked Jack that that hadn't been him.

There were a lot of very distracting things happening. Chaya had a great deal of difficulty concentrating on the quiz, and being on fire throughout most of it made it difficult to write without burning the paper up.

She thought she'd done pretty good on the reading section, at least.

Damien wasn't exactly unusual to the feeling of being stuck at a desk while someone droned on about stuff that went in one ear and out the other fuzzy ear. "Don't chew with your mouth open, this is hellhound etiquette in a friends abode, dont sniff that tree." the list went on and on. The classes here were different, things that he had to pay attention to, this much was learned after the first year when the nonsense they talked about became practical after his first day.

Since then he hasn't fallen down any ominous pits. So learning did happen, his grandfather was going to be so proud.

The test giving was not his favorite thing to do, sitting at the desk and going through the occasional shift if posture until he got comfortable. He was never going to be comfortable enough. It only made sense that the school wide event would have something scholastic in its ongoing events. Not every event could be about running.

"Time to do the Monsters proud." he sighed, putting his eyes to the paper and pen in hand. The hound was if anthign careful, hunched over his paper and flicking his emerald eyes at the slightest movement in his vicinity. no one was going to take his answers.

Even if he was going to take one from a oblivious test taker that didn't know it.

The hound wandered out with a giant penstrictor wrapped on his arm over his arm, face it the penstrictor was currently his hand, or trying to digest the fear particles in it. But the test was done, and he was feeling ok with how it went.

Lee had lived most of his life up to this point in a dark room. His ability to read was limited to the menu of the Cafe where he worked. And that, not very well.

The test could have been in any language, none of them would have made sense to him.

Staring at the paper, he flushed with embarrassment and shame, and stutteringly wrote down-

epe soream
ditter coke
1/2 ott
haunled speciol

and also copied a few of the markings at random, resulting in things that, at least, looked like words.

That was when he felt something very wet circle his ear. Lee's veins expanded, and tightened, and suddenly there was a blur of invisibility. ...After which Lee realized he was in a very good position to simply copy other people's marks, which was a better plan than what he'd been doing.

Which is exactly what he did, straight through two sections, until someone ejected a giant furred monster into his cubicle. He looked at the paper. He looked at the monster ??

It would have to find him first.

Pickworth rolled up his sleeves, one folded inch at a time. If there was anything he was good (...okay...) at, it was documentation.

Well, he had a lot of practice at least.

...maybe he was kind of out of practice.

He unrolled his case of quills, and carefully positioned his inkwell. He folded his hands on his desk. He watched the clock-

and was subsequently knocked out.

When he came to, he rubbed his head woozily, and looked at the clock again. !!! He'd already missed an entire section! He pulled himself up to the desk, and snatched up a quill, doing dark and terrible combat with the menacing numbers. An eyeball rolled under his feet, and he kicked it back where it came from. He had just polished off the last, brave number when a stake came out of nowhere and pinned him right to the back of his cubicle.

After a lot of kicking, swearing, and finally struggling out of his shirt, he raced over to fill out the last two sections in a sweat. They were...non-uniform, but he answered them dutifully and to the best of his ability, before sagging into the desk.

Was this why he'd given up his day job...?

Poor Jove had much dog shaming in his near future. Having missed the first event, the one he would have done particularly well in, he felt it was in his best interest to sit through this test despite how it made him squirm. Normally he was not a fan of tests. It was like meditation, all that sitting was not good for wiggly little puppies and he had to force himself, with thoughts of how disapproving his caretaker would be otherwise, to focus on the page in front of him.

And there was NO WAY he could skip this test. He couldn't blame a trip to see his vet for his annual checkup for two missed events, and he would rather not write double the letters of apology to the Ghost dorm RAs who were counting on them to put in their best effort.

Surprisingly, what with all the horrible things happening to students around him, Jove managed to complete the test with very little trouble. Except… He was pretty sure most of that exam was not an exam at all. By the end of it he began to wonder if he had actually participated in a test, or if he had just helped some boogeyman clean out their desk drawer. Oh well. At least he did a good job on the Maths.

Alexis wasn't sure he was going to do well with the, erm, quizzes. He wasn't exactly bright after all. Yet having missed the first event, and possibly the event he would have exceeded the most, there was no way in hades he'd miss this event.

Sitting down at one of the uncomfortable cubicles, he flipped open the pamplet, let out a breath, and began.

1. HALLOWEEN HISTORY
It was surprisingly easy! Smiling, alex was able to get through the most of the quiz. Except the last part which was.. a cookbook. Well, not everything was perfect here, after all.

2. HOW2MATH
Cripes, this was harder than before. Made worse that a friendly alumni began to hover around the cubicles and laugh at the pain and discomfort of the other students. Alexis tried to brush it off, but man that guy was weird and in the end he didn't finish all the math before the next section.

3. HUMAN WORLD STUDIES
Now this was definitely something he'd be good at. Both of his parents were experts in the field. Grinning from ear to ear, Alexis breezed through most fo the exam. Until it came to a shopping list. Baffled, he stared at the rest of the page before throwwing it to the side. Darn it!

4. HALLOWEEN LITERATURE
At first some (ie all) of the questions seemed to be confusing gibberish. As Alexis flipped the quiz booklet, it became increasingly difficult to read and understand. Then, sadly, it becam purely code. despite that he was able to decipher some and get a decent mark. Phew!

5. GENERAL STUDIES
It was getting on in the day and slowly his stomach grumbled. A delicious scent of a cooking question from a nearby cubicle kept distracting him, but he didn't do too badly on this section!

As Alexis closed the book, he was stunned and happy to see the "35" appear on the top of the booklet. That was a great grade (for him). Grinning, he stood from the desk and prepared for the next event.

Yes yes yes. An event based around knowledge? Taima was so in. This beat a stupid obstacle course any day. Finally, her long hours spent buried in books would pay off. This was about more than just acing yet another test; Taima took a particular pride in the knowing of things, and she was more than happy for the chance to show it off.

She couldn't help but feel like she was being watched as she took the test, though that may have had something to do with the weapons hovering over her as she worked. She raced through the questions, checking boxes and filling in answers with ease and confidence. History, math, human studies, especially--it was nearly laughable how easy most of the questions were. Even the ones that weren't obvious were easily answered with an educated (and lucky) guess.

The only category that gave her even the slightest hint of trouble revolved around literature. Taima wasn't as much of a fan of fiction as she was of cold, hard facts, but she managed to do pretty well on that section anyway.

After completing the last of the general knowledge questions, Taima put her penstrictor down and stood. As she turned to leave the cubicle, all of the various kinds of weaponry--all sharp and hulking instruments of pain and dissipation--drooped as if disappointed that they didn't get to maim another student.

Ala had been raised in a dark cave, isolated from the surrounding world. However, it had been full of books, enchanted ones or otherwise. Some were inaccurate, and others outright fictitious, but for the most part, she grasped the older parts of society better than the newer.

As such, history was not something she was worried about.

Using her claw dipped into ink as an efficient-- albeit messy-- writing device, the Wyrm began to complete her quiz. Most of it made sense, and she carelessly guessed at the rest, and one page was from an ancient cookbook featuring her favourite minipet: the poms. She knew immediately that they were best served...blue.

She felt confident with her work on history, and moved to the next section. Math.

Scanning over the paper with a dull humm, she completed answer on autopilot. Much of this didn't make sense, but she made do with her best intuitions.

Quest #42:
Dear diary, I wonder if my betrothed is--

Ala made a face, and promptly skipped that question. What was next. Human studies? Her least favourite subject. She had half a mind to answer 'eat them' to every question, and only barely resisted the urge. Instead, about half of her answers were that.

Her unused pen reared up to seven or eight feet tall, and while she was not afraid of it, Ala found its hissing very distracting.

Next, literature. Again, with the books and the previous history. She was in familiar territory. Even if some of this was...awkwardly written, and probably not official published literature. One of the pages was a crayon. She filled in the bubble that the hair on the illustration was, in fact, blue as described.

Onto general work. None of it looked familiar, which was disconcerting to the draconic ghoul.

She muttered some of it aloud, awkwardly stumbling over the words, and a group of figures attempted to pull her beneath the surface to some underground maze. She scrabbled away, finished her quiz, and promptly booked it.

She had minipets to eat.

There was always some sort of schoolwork to be done, and it irritated him beyond all words. With gritted teeth, he flipped through the pages of his quiz, face growing darker with every question read.

he gripped his first penstrictor so tight it hissed in pain, if such a thing was possible. Nonetheless. There was work to be done.

With pursed lips, Ash looked at the first section. History was trivial, and therefore not interesting to Ash. He knew the story of his hometown by heart, and all of its lore and legend-- and that was enough to sour him on any other historical matter. He didn't care what the original Pyramidkind did, nor their interests in paltry little humans.

He filled out various bubbles and short form questions with glazed over eyes, worrying about his missing boilfriend. Some of the letters were uncharacteristically jagged, and when Ash attempted to read some of them out loud, a series of cultists appeared.

And by cultists, Ash truly meant minipets, but in his shame, he would never tell the story again. They were all suspiciously foxfires with hoods, and of a mysterious origin. Haggardly, he proceeded to the next section, which was one of his strengths due to its rigidity:

Math.

Without thinking, the reaper began to jot down complex numbers and formulas, and scoffed when weaker students fell prey to The Dreaded Maths. Ashford was a Pyramid Head, he was strong, and would not be bested by something so simple as a bunch of numbers.

No, he reigned triumphant over them, and would become their god in time.

In the mean-time, some student frantically copied answers off of his paper, and hoped that he was right. He looked so sombre that he must know the answers. Fortunately for them, he did.

The next section he knew a great deal about, though not due to any studying of his own, be it in class or out of it. No, it was because of his boilfriend. He knew so much about humans, and sometimes it was as distorted as the knowledge required from this test.

Most of the pictures made no sense, of course, and neither did the questions. It didn't matter: he was an expert, through sheer force of will. It wasn't easy, being Thackery's boyfriend. It meant a lot of caring about minipet rights and being kind to people, and a lot of understanding what it takes to be a king. Not just everyone could be a king, you know, not just everyone at all.

He understood what it took twofold, because Thackery had two kingselves. They were a pair, two peas in a horrible, wonderful pod. He almost snapped his penstrictor (again) in his irritation, and the student copying him began to sweat copious bullets. Was the creepy reaper onto him? Did he know, and was he just choosing to stare forlornly into the distance to avoid a confrontation that might get him expelled?

No.

He was staring forlornly as an effort to withhold his manpain. His manpain would not rule him. He was stronger than the sulking manpain. He had no desire to stop shaving and lurk in a cave in woe. No, he would show this quiz who was the boss. HE was. He was the boss, jack damnit.

With one last glare at the paper's terrible depiction of a human-- where did that second head and third arm even come from, and humans didn't have four rows of teeth, that would be preposterous, they were weak and fleshy-- Ash moved on to the next section.

The next portion was regarding literature, and it was another topic he found immensely dry. Most of the books in his hometown had sung cultish praises for their kind, and after the thirteenth book written in the same tone and vernacular, it got a little old. Unfortunately, he was also hit with some sort of punishing shrink ray for this transgression of thought crime, apparently. He was too small to even wield the penstrictor properly. He had super strength, so lifting it was no problem, but he was more pitiful than even the smallest of stage two treat puffs, and it took ten minutes to fill in one bubble reliably. The utensil kept wobbling in his arms.

It wore off as soon as he got to general studies, but that didn't mean his troubles were over. Oh no, that would have been easy, and easy just wouldn't do. It was a pop quiz, of course, and that meant he had to expect the unexpected, because the unexpected was expecting him.

Ash filled out the bubbles, but not before his own desk devoured his dominant hand. With a slew of curses, in creative languages taught to him by popular media and little else, Ash attempted to finish the quiz with his left hand. It proceeded as expected.

Poorly.

Aleria was excited to take the test. Academics had always been their one strength, and they were excited to prove their dedication to the task. With flowery writing, they proceeded to write down each answer. The first section being literature meant they were off to a strong start, and the demon licked their lips in concentration.

One page was a cookbook, but fortunately, Aleria was a well established cook. Or, well. At least passable enough to follow a recipe.

Next, the mathematics. They did not scream, but the ice demon's suffering was palpable as they trudged through each question. Some were in code, and that was fine. They pushed through regardless, and considered looking further into cryptocryptography, the study of decoding the mysteries of the ancient Cryptian Crypts. Try saying that five times fast.

Human world studies was not their strongest suite, but they did have some rudimentary knowledge due to the outdated and musty history books of their tribe. Unfortunately, a lot of their knowledge was forgotten as a certain alumni slunk up to Aleria and attempted to perform inappropriate advances towards their ears. Seriously, boil. Enough is enough.

Ah, Halloween Literature. One of their best subjects, completely ruined by the mysterious transformation into a petite creature. Being nearly eight feet tall as part of their normal stature, it was such an intense pity that Aleria was now smaller than an inch. It was worse than their time on the horsemen isles, because now it was quite literally being small, instead of just figuratively. This also did not have any of the mysterious wonder associated with the Famine clan.

It was all drudgery and misery, and being too small to do anything of use. They didn't even finish the section properly. They briefly considered writing SOS in the margins before finally being transformed back into their normal size.

What a relief. If that had been permanent, Aleria may have wept for the first time in their brief existence.

General studies, at least, meant that the icy bramble demon was in the last leg of their quiz. Aleria passed it with flying colours. Literal flying colours. Perhaps one of those Poptart cat minipets, hurtled up into the sky by an angry owner, as the minipet had likely eaten the last of the owners poptarts. by poptarts, we refer to the candy that fizzle like soda, rather than the human pastry treat. Confusing branding, to be sure, but still just as disconcerting. The poptart candy tests well on students between the ages of 15 and 1500, as well as housewives ranging from age 35 to immortal. A number of studies were done to determine whether it counted as cannibalism for a minipet to consume a treat with the same name as it, even if the ingredients were different.

In the end, 9 out of 10 scientists agreed, it was best to just consume the poptart cat itself, and save yourself the trouble.

Aleria turned in their test, smirking with four rows of teeth.

Elysiel was not truly prepared for a quiz of any sort. She was still new to existing (again), and hesitantly followed the lead of someone else. Anyone else, to tell it truly.

She was not familiar with any history of recent times, and most of it read as pure gibberish. She leaned over her desk to read someone else's answers, unfamiliar with the idea of 'cheating' or even why it might be a bad thing.

The student she was attempting to copy off of did not share similar views in any way whatsoever, and promptly ran their scaled finger along their jugular. At first, the message wasn't clear, due to the fact that Elyisel was 1. dead 2. a Halloweener, and that symbol meant nothing to them, for they did not die when bleeding out through the neck, but their continued glares eventually got the picture across.

Eventually.

Either way, she doesn't cheat off them again. Instead, she leans to the other side, and copies a cute little witchy ghoul's work for the Math portion. She disregards all screams and copied their work studiously.

The next portion contains a shopping list, which she pockets for later. Perhaps she will feel the need to go grocery shopping.

The literature section contains code, which she cannot break, but she guesses well enough. Something something probability.

The final section is 45% tree bark, which she has no idea how to handle. Elysiel draws a smiley face on it, and shrugs.

Tests and quizzes! Zeek loved these sorts of things, and had stripped down to his ceremonial testing under-robes.

It was a bit embarrassing when he discovered that this was not at all like the tests back home, and the under-robes were not at all required, but he still managed to do fairly well. The tactic of closing one eye and allowing one tentacle to mark all of the answers appeared to be a good tactic after all.

As soon as Shine realized what was happening here, she began to panic. This was not something that she was prepared for! They hadn't told her that she would need to study!

The quiz pamphlet was very blurry through her constant stream of tears, and she had to blindly guess the majority of the material. Her worrying only increased when one of the machines above her made a noise, and she discovered that she was tinier than her pencil. And right in the middle of the literature section, too!

"But I...I like books," she wailed, curling up in the middle of the pamphlet.
