Fayre hadn't stopped running. But when she realized the goddess was nothing but a statue again, she skidded to a stop, holding the heart clutched close to her body. She didn't want to let it go, but why? She'd done it once before. She'd probably do it again. And again. And again.

That was who she was. Wasn't it?

She read each plaque, and knew instantly which one deserved his heart. It wasn't for him that she chose the gold pillar. It was for her. It was always for her. Her and her own selfish heart.

She left the heart there, and sighed in relief as all of the grief her heart was clenched painfully with suddenly lifted and floated away with her memories.

This. This was better. This was nice.

Perhaps it was better the goddess was gone when he emerged. For he had far too many questions to ask. The plaque itself, telling him to claim something for completing a task was beyond him. But answering the goddesses demands was all he had. So with a deep sigh, sounding far too old for his actual age he slowly moved to the statues. As he reached the first he read it, closing his eyes slowly.

Yes. That was right. There was only despair. Anguish, if he was filled with anything it was that. He needed even see the other stands, to see what they meant. This alone fit him too well. He placed the bag upon the white stand at that point. And then the memory of what he'd done slipped away, as if never there.

He froze, blinking at the bag that stood there. He was sad, broken... but he couldn't recall why? Why had he been sad? He blinked a few more times, slowly standing before backing out. Why..? What had he done?

..maybe he'd find answers elsewhere.

{Alice - Leia}

Leia slowly walked back inside, her breathing regulating after what had just happened. She looked around for the goddess, but all that she saw after this was the statues of the three goddesses.

Leia, holding the heart close to herself, began to walk closer to the statues, yet noticed the other pedestals. She wished to never do something like this again. There was already enough strings pulled that connected the feelings that were connected to the heart and that of her own.

She saw one pillar, one that beckoned her to set the heart down on. She kneeled down next to it, and read the words. "Anguish," she said, reading the pillar. She looked down at the heart that was in the hands. She closed her eyes, as if to say a prayer to the dead, kissed it, and set it down on the pedestal of ANGUISH.

It sucked the heart into the pedestal, along with the memories that were once connected to it. And with her heart, cleared of any of the grief that was once there, began to walk towards the Shrine, not knowing why she had been in that room in the first place.

Laurus felt as though her steps had gotten heavier during her return. In lieu of speaking with the Goddess again, she went from plaque to plaque, reading the words under the empty pedestals. In the end, she laid her sacrifice before Hubris's brilliant gold plaque. Perhaps pride would sustain her through whatever lay ahead. She hoped so.

The memories faded as she left. What had bothered her so much back there, anyway?

Rime Yin made her way back, eager to show the goddess that she had completed the task as requested, only to find a statue there now with other empty pedestals. Carefully she looked each one of them over, not quite sure which one to choose. Becoming a Goddess seemed to be the whole goal of whatever it was they were doing here... so she felt as if she needed to pick one. After a few more moments, Rime placed the bag on the gold pedestal, and all the memories went with her offering.

Thean walked back towards the room slowly. The memories lay heavy in her heart along with her brother's death. Slowly her tears dried on her face creating streaks for the world to see. The world saw her crime. She must pay for what she did.

She looked to her goddess for what to do with her bag of regret. For that was what she should call it. But why was she a statue once more. She approached and read her pedestal.

Candidate? To be a goddess? How was that possible? Was there more? With her bag she moved toward the empty pedestals when she noticed them. She read each, yet one described her right now. One that she felt she deserved. One that was fitting.

Anguish.

She felt nothing but anguish since she came out of that room. Her crime was so heinous that her punishment should be to wallow in it. She sacrificed her heart bag to the white pedestal.

She backed away from the pedestal. But why was she here? Wasn't she supposed to be doing something for her goddess? Huh that was weird. She didn't remember anything. A void? No way. Oh well! Time to go see her goddess! She skipped away, secret questions in her heart.

Nzsyoecsz clutched at the bag upon his return, yellow eyes wide.

The strangest thing was that it wasn't wrong to take the heart. He had done something good, and yet...

And yet...

He read the pedestals one by one in a panicked rush. They spoke to him in turn. Affliction and consumption. Vanity and self preservation. Malevolence and resentment.

But Anguish...

He placed the bag upon the white pedestal. In all honesty, he had never had much hope.

The weight seemed lifted from his shoulders immediately, as the memories faded away.

Rochiej rubbed his head as he approached the room of pillars. He looked over each one after finding out what it was he had to do. Sacrifice the heart...

He was distracted, to say in the least. The memories that had all but assaulted him. There were some rather strong sensations that went along with those, and at the same time.. he was disturbed that he had apparently cut out the heart of the one involved in these memories.

Had he really just killed her?

It was a terrible thought.

He took in a deep breath, then placed the bag onto the white pedestal.

And then it was all gone.

Everything.

Entering the shrine room once more, she moved over to the first pillar she saw, The White one and tossed the heart on there without a second thought. As the memories faded she smiled.

She'd become a goddess and she'd never fear again.

With that she returned to the shrine proper.

Marati escaped the room with her heart in tow, but when she saw the room, her Goddess was gone. She looked around, and headed to the first plaque she saw. Sacrifice the heart to a pedestal...and become a candidate? For a moment she looked curious, pondering on the idea of becoming a Goddess; it sounded good, to be on a level with the yellow Goddess that held her soul? Hmmm!

For a moment she paused - was it worth Calder's life? Perhaps maybe if she became a Goddess, she could go back and save him, or at least grant him a new life? It was only a passing thought in the long run, as something in her held no small amount of resentment to the Kelpie and the way he had acted as of late.

The plaques though, those she gave it some serious thought, reading each and every plaque twice. She himed, she hawed, and then she knelt at the base of Malevolence, and sacrificed Calder's heart - and her memory of him - to the black plaque.

It would always be the black pedestal of malevolence.

Isaa didn't look back. It didn't matter if the Goddess was there or not, it had no bearings or influence on Isaa.

The absence of the Goddess was almost maddening. She was supposed to be here. How else would she recognize Simmy's achievements? Who would love her for what she'd done?

There was a sour taste in her mouth as she deposited the bag on the black pedestal.

When he returned to the chamber, and the Goddess was back to her statue form, he held out the bag and asked faintly: "What do I do with this? It was important to me, and I brought it anyway," he said. No reply.

He read the plaque, and realized: he needed to sacrifice it to one of the pedestals. Van read each of them, and for some reason, he chose the White pedestal. The grief of losing his pack. He belonged in that world. With the pack dead, he could not be home, any more. Despair was all that was left to him.

As Van dropped the heart onto the pedestal, he lost his memories of the Pack, too; the last life left in them, and it was gone, just like that.

Sterncave wasn't sure why he felt lost.

L'Cakepies kept his bag, and walked very briskly towards the goddess of paranoia. The memories faded with it, and frankly, he was glad to give them up.

Kirki returned to the shrine with his bag, and was almost furious to see that the goddess was gone. He watched the statue warily and then his eyes dipped to read the plague. Candidate?

He circled each of the tiles and read their plaque carefully. He considered what he'd experienced, and how it had made him feel, and then he dumped the bag on the White pedestal of Anguish. As he did the bag disappeared, and he felt the memories leave him. There was a moment of relief, and then nothing - just blank space in his mind where something should have been.
