CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX – Recruiting
You knocked on the door to Merrill’s home. When she answered, you took little time for pleasantries before presenting your proposal. Merrill wore a particularly sunny smile when you asked her if she would join you.
“I’m always happy to help you, lethallan. I’ll meet you tomorrow.”
The Chantry was largely empty when you visited, but you pulled Sebastian aside nonetheless.
“Listen…I know we haven’t…talked much since…what happened. I just want to apologize,” you began. “I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable, but I need your help with something.”
The prince sighed. “Well, who am I to deny a lady in need?”
As you discussed the ramifications of your future meeting, you fought a pressing urge to call out his innuendo.
As soon as Fenris opened the door, you blurted out your request.
“I need your help with something.”
Fenris blinked once, slowly, before speaking. “You lead, I’ll follow.”
“Should be a nice break from evading tax collectors,” you mused.
Fenris chuckled before following you out the door.
