Luka

The little pink terror had Impressed it appeared. Luka took stock of herself, suddenly ashamed at how she'd let her self overreact. The Gold's had Impressed, and a glance back towards the feeding tables and around the Sands revealed the Impression of three greens. With the grey gone (she could now guess that something had killed it from the drama that just went down) and the adult dragons calming, Luka did her best to act like nothing had happened.

After all, she was unharmed. She didn't have a real opinion on the death of the mutant, who knew how many candidates it would have killed if they hadn't stopped it? As for the pink... well they'd find out soon if they were as abnormal in mind if they were in body she supposed. Hopefully the rest of the clutch would hatch swiftly and be normal.

There was one hatchling still on the Sands she realized. What color it was she had no idea. It seemed to be possibly a gold. It certainly gleamed. There was a large dark splotch on it though, like a bruise. Dragons didn't bruise red, if they bruised at all. She knew that much at least.

Jaykkial

Haliath was distracted by the other dragons and for now, Atheth was content to leave it be. She continued to eat. Food would fuel her mind and body should they be needed in the near future. She was also getting acquainted with the tag-a-long that had come with her bonded, touching noses between bites with the little brown Handsome in Jaykkial's lap.

Handsome Boy's fear and worry had melted as he discovered the new addition to his bonded's mind. He wasn't quite ready to crawl all over her... but as she wasn't hissing or being threatening anymore, he was displaying some curiosity. His Person was thinking very fond and favorable thoughts about the big-small-dragon.

Prisoner candidate Blyte

The shiny was certainly not a gold, but she was pretty. He fully expected her to impress to one of the girls, and, while he might not say it out loud, was awful glad that Marue had already impressed.

There would have been no living with her if she would have ended up with a shiny.

The newest green also seemed to have found hers, another of the females, and another non prisoner. Not too surprising, and he looked back over at the eggs to see if any of the others were hatching.

It didn't seem as if the Fly Away Home egg had hatched yet, he remembered that egg as well, and wanted to keep an eye on it. It had been unsure at the touching, but hopefully, it would be alright.

The Sneak thief egg though, it appeared to be cracking, and... was that a hint of grey? No? Yes? It was hard to tell, but Blyte rather hoped it was, but also that it would be less aggressive. Maybe this one wouldn't end up dead.

Revrend and Resk

She loved her life partner, just at times she wished Stella had some tact. Revrend face palmed, promising that she was going to have to make it up to Taavi somehow. Maybe she would take him a cat skin, he probably could use a fur to warm up his rooms or something figure out something decent when the trade caravan came through. She smiled at the concern and respond with warmth. Things would be alright, they were learning still.

Stella would be fine. Tactless but fine. Rev looked over the sands, giving the new hatching a bemused look. Cute, really this had to be a hatching to remember, a grey, a pink, two queens, and now this little molted darling of a hatching. If a blue caught a queen wher would the results be the same?''

Saain

The little green toddled off towards the group of healers and might have impressed. It was hard to tell from her angle but good for the little gal if it indeed had been an impression. Saain knew the little green would treat the child well. Two dragons to two healers, it was surprising and a tad amusing.

Lin

The Preening Princess egg was hatching at last, and it was.. It was a.. Hmm. Not really sure. Oh well, it's not like colour mattered to her. Just to some people. Then another egg began to hatch and Lin gasped to see another flash of grey. Oh no! Not the little Sneak-Theif egg! she thought with despair. But.. no. That wasn't fair. Why should they have to adapt, why should they have to fear for their lives because of their abnormal colours? It was the Warden that was wrong, not them! They couldn't help being born the way they were. She wouldn't wish for greens and blues. These hatchlings deserved more than that.

Her eyes shifted to the Senior Warden and several of his guards. Now they would see if he was really just taking out a dangerous hatchling, or if he was going to kill this one too without provocation. Either way, Lin's fingers tightened behind her back. She wished the grey a speedy Impression. Go quick now, little one. she thought. Or you might not get another chance.

Cassowary churred when its sister pranced off to Impress. The awkwardly shaped dragon puffed up some in pleasure at seeing her frolic away, thick tail twitching to and fro. Enough was enough, really, and as much as the baby wanted to look around and cheep, it needed to find its Rider.

The dragon heaved a sigh and pushed itself on it's back feet, thick hind muscles tightening. Small claws grasped and pulled, Cassowary doing its very, very best to climb up onto the Stands. Hers was up there! Her rider, the warm and bright presence that just wanted love and help and he was there. The hatchling had trouble with it, squirming, scrambling, trying to keep her movements slow and careful but only ending up with a squeak of distress.

Leevi? A plaintive and very female voice called, the tone trembling as she tried to climber her way up. Leevimine, I don't know if I can climb all of these... Please, could you please help your Lasoth?

And then, the hatchling squeaked and flopped onto her rear, squeaking. Her small head turned to face the mindhealer, keening.

Climbing was hard. :c

Apparently the little multi-colored disaster wanted to explore all the things, because it was making its way to the Stands. Or. Well. Trying to. It was just doing her best to climb into the Stands, back legs scrabbling for purchase as it tried to haul its rather ungainly body up.

It wasn't very effective. The strange hatchling landed on its little rump before keening softly and squeaking.

Leevi?

It was not a voice Leevi had expected. His smile froze into the little appreciative 'awwww!' at such adorable antics.

Leevimine, I don't know if I can climb all of these... Please, could you please help your Lasoth?

“Ohshit.” Leevi was not given to cursing overly much, but he couldn't hold it back then as the dragon made it very clear that she was after him. It wasn't displeasure at all. Simply disbelief.

:C The strange hatchling keened again, calling for Hers.

He had to get down there before M'onk decided that her attempts to climb into the Stands were clearly aggressive. Leevi hurriedly stood up and, thanks to having actual bodily control, managed to get down the Stands to the little dragon's side. Lasoth's side. Kneeling in the Sands, he put his arms around her in a hug. “Are you alright?”

Yes! I am fine. Um. I'm hungry, but can we wait? I want to see my siblings first. Lasoth crooned back towards the eggs once more. See? It wasn't that scary out here! They could come out too and they could be friends!

Joscelin was given the most unamused look in the history of the world. He rolled his eyes and then it was Taavetti, all Taavetti looking at him. He didn't miss the way that the wherhandler stepped back or how he glanced. V'tyai snorted, his head shaking, but he did nothing else other than jerk slightly at Taavi's hand in something akin to chastisement.

"You're very weird," he grumbled with no real heat to it. The weyrlingmasters eyes skated after the dinosaur-like little multicolored thing, his eyebrows slowly crawling up when it tried to crawl up on the Stands. His mouth opened for a second, hand clinging tight to Taavi's, and then he saw the mindhealer scramble down. Any doubts of the Impression were erased by the arms around her (her?) frame and the croon of the dragon. "... well, I guess a mindhealer is my new weyrling."

He sighed and shook his head. "You're officially the guard for these people, Taavetti. You have no choice. I will throw your pillows away if you say no. Don't leave me with their insanity. I need yours to counteract theirs."

V'tyai had no power anymore and no right to make that official. Shells, Taavi didn't even have that. He ignored that fact anyway, and clutched desperately onto his words regardless, hoped Taavetti wouldn't point it out this time.

And then, essentially without any indication of having begun to crack, the Marvelous Dancer egg popped.

It was like jabbing a needle into a balloon. One moment, there was egg, and the next moment...there was blue.
User Image

A ridiculous, gawky-looking blue patched in wide swatches of steel-grey and navy and periwinkle. The Bird of Paradise blue investigated the remains of his egg (and also his feet?), chirped - apparently to himself, and then got unsteadily to his feet. Then he actually looked around.

Wow, a lot had happened while he was in that shell, huh?

At any rate, he didn’t seem particularly interested in Impressing just yet, but he walked toward the Candidates, head bobbing and wings flared. He was cool, right? Everyone look at him!

The Fly Away Home egg had been rather quiet at the Touching, but it seemed that it was no longer content to sit around and wait. As the Bird of Paradise blue passed by the little cream-and-brown egg, it too broke open, and out unfurled... a brown?

Really? How had a brown fit into an egg that small? Sure, it was a smallish brown, but still. The process of watching it attempt to haul itself out of that egg was still somewhat akin to watching a clown car.

User Image

The Canada Goose brown sure wasn’t the prettiest thing to grace the sands that day. But he was kind of cute, in a fat fluffy way. And he had an undeniable confident swagger to his step, a relaxed attitude that had been sorely missing from the hatching so far. He seemed completely unfazed by whatever had gone on before, and he certainly would not be hurried.

Why should he worry? He was a brown. It wasn’t like he was pink or gray or multicolored. He was, in fact, the first brown in the clutch. So it seemed that blues could produce browns after all.

Prisoner Candidate Blyte

He had lost interest in the shiny when it was clear that it wanted someone in the stands, turning his attention back to the eggs just in time to see the blue pop out. He was a gawky little creature, but Blyte had a feeling that he'd grow into himself eventually.

However, his attention was drawn away from him when the Fly Away Home egg hatched, revealing a brown. A brown? He hadn't expected a brown from such a small egg, but the teen supposed that even the larger dragons might start out pretty small.

The hatchling seemed confident enough, relaxed, and Blyte hoped that that meant that he had figured himself out between the touching and now. It had been a rather confused egg, and he couldn't help but remember the feeling of loss and unknowingness that had come from it.

Find yours little one. Find yours.

Hey! Hey! What do I care about the big masculine ones, huh? They suck! Leave him alone, he deserved it, smug little butthead. Get it? Hey! Canoake! He nipped at her lovely lovely hair. Listen to Haemath - they aren't even golds so stop being pissy one of them likes the loser. He's a loser. So are they. We aren't.
Rainbows. Glee. Haemath.

Canoake muttered something not to polite at Joscelin as she managed to make the back of his robes look decent and still cover what wasn't a bad looking behind. Not that she cared for butts. She knew what came out of them and sometimes, like in the case of M'onk, more came out the mouth than out the back end. Just as she was moving back, a strange blur of pink pushed the boy out the way and just like that, nosed his way into her face and shoulder.

And mind.

Her eyes went wide. For once, strong and prideful Canoake was dumbstruck. Moving her hair out her face and looking deep into the eyes of a very pink dragon, she whispered to it. "Haemath? Your mine? Haha! You're mine! Eat that M'onk! Eat that everyone! I got a PINK dragon and he is all male, baby!"

Whooping, she tossed her arms around the little beast and looked up to make sure that no weapons were trained on her, HER dragon. They'd have to shoot her first and if she survived, Canoake would not only be beyond pissed but would be sure to get her revenge anyway she could. Standing up slowly and keeping her body so that it was partially blocking Haemath's, she looked at Joscelin and grinned. "Get over it, boyo! Pink will be the new "IN" color here at Warden's real soon."

Can we go get food now. I wish to look over my siblings. Haemath nosed at her again. The pink dragon looked over the boy in front of them both and huffed. As if I would chose him.

Snorting, Canoake began to walk off the Sands, head held up high. That was at least, until one of the motherly greens screeched something angrily. Oh! Calling C'ross a murderer. Wow. And then, the rider's responding in rage. She covered her ears and looked down at her dragon. His eyes whirled with anger but she wasn't sure for who or whom. Canoake paid no attention as more eggs hatched out. Finally, she made it over to the feeding area and grabbed some meat for her lovely Haemath.

"Well, well. Certainly a day for drama and death. Just you wait, Haemath. As soon as you are big enough, we will show Warden's what's what... And then, Pern will be ours." Canoake practically did a little dance as Haemath started eating.

Of course it will be. Nothing but the best for my Canoake. The pink dragon replied, mouth full and belly getting there.

Joscelin lift an brow, mirroring V'tyai look. Bite me. He had seen a hatching die, been knocked down and humiliated by a second and at the moment was still flushed slightly pink and just tired of it all. Besides wanting some pants, he really just wanted the hatching to end so he could escape with what little bit of dignity he could hold onto. A soothing bath and then he was going to lock himself in the archives till next seven day.

He shifted, not moving from his spot on the sands, hot sands but still, not moving. Pink terror beast and a Stands impression? Joscelin hummed slightly, watching the man from the touching scampering down from the stands to embrace the metallic swirled hatching. He hadn't put any hope into that egg; but, he could privately wish them luck.

A catch of gray from the Cheerful sneak egg, and then a blue and a brown hatched in quick succession. The brown was a surprise, it probably shouldn't' have been with all the recent strange hatchings. Still, a brown, that could be a hatching he could actually write home to his family to. The blue was amusing as the little thing hopped -danced- about the sands, preening. Sort of pretty but gangly, like a kid.

Saain

Ooh, a blue. Saain remembered the shared words between the egg and felt a sort of warmth to the gangly awkward blue that had spilled out on the sands. He was certainly an lively little thing, bobbing and flaring and very much preening.

How did that brown fit inside that egg? The shell seemed too small to hold such a large hatching, well not horribly large but still, she had expected a much smaller dragon.

Luka

So there were normal dragons in this clutch, well, if you considered two golds abnormal as well. And if you didn't count the greens. Whatever. A Blue and a Brown hatched next. That's what she was getting at. Whatever the shiny one was, it had Impressed to someone in the Stands (lucky b*****d). The pink went to the girl who'd been messing with the redhead's robes (judging by the sound of her caterwauling). Even with prisoners on the Sands there weren't that many candidates left, and fewer dragons.

She wanted to Impress. Didn't she? There was a touch of jealousy of the young man in the Stands even if his dragon was a mutant. She didn't really want to be a rider. That was more the problem. She just wanted an easy ticket out of jail, and the bragging rights that came with being one of the 'chosen ones' so to say. Oh am I not good enough for you? Well I'm good enough for a dragon. Your Loss.

Jessan sat high in the Stands, frozen, her eyes straight ahead and her fingers laced together on her knees like a good little girl in primary. She had an expression somewhere between 'blank' and 'amused'. To be quite honest, it was the closest thing she could get to hiding the roiling in her stomach from the scene on the Sands. While she didn't know the brownrider, she met with M'onk more than a handful of times since coming to Warden's, and she knew his type. He had once been like her but with a large, powerful, shining dragon. How he ruled a prison that had the first on record culling of an angry dragonet.

She knew men like Squad Second C'ross as well. Generally, Jessan liked them. They followed orders. He didn't smile murder (or at all) but he had the same set of shoulders. He stood up for M'onk, she'd heard, an this is not the sort of thing a normal dragonrider would do.

Jessan sat high in the Stands and watched the only one she could call 'friend' scramble down to greet his new beast with hardly any envy. She wanted one. She wanted a Gold or perhaps now one of those Pinks. A shiny multi-colored one. But at that moment, Jess found it hard to covet. Her moral lines had been crossed - her! - by watching that dragon be shot down. It didn't wear off even halfway through the hatching. She watched in detached silence.

Marue, she noted, had been very close to the Warden before she scampered to V'tyai. (He refused to come talk to her, he took wine and a place in the handsome wherhandlers bed instead.) She heard Berath's accusation and, very quietly, felt bad for the brownrider.

Jessan apparently had a soul.

She made a note to speak with Marue and C'ross in the upcoming days.

In the meantime, she forced her face into a smile and clapped gently, politely, and cheered for Leevi and his newfound Whatever It Was.

It was probably less then polite to wish misfortune on others, or even enjoy it when it happened. Joscelin preened mentally, slightly amusement curving his lips. So he had been public humiliated by the pink little dragon terror and shards if he was going to stand up, robe fixed or not in fancy knot work- V'tyai and M'onk now had two young woman who had impressions of his sisters down pat as dragon riders.

Now, if they were anything like his sisters they would create a girls club. He didn't know the woman who had impressed the first green, or the young girl who had impressed the green? Yellow? it was hard to tell who had impressed what in the healer's corner. They were both young, the little healer girl couldn't be much older than early teens. Poor thing was going to be forcibly makeover. He wasn't sure if he should feel pity for V'tyai or a bit of glee at the payback. He did not need any of those images in his mind.

Actually, he wasn't sure he wanted to impress now if it meant he would be sharing any sort of lessons with the young prisoner and her screechy gold or the young woman who dragon that had assaulted his person and then told M'onk to 'Eat it' and called him 'boyo'. Charming, weren't they?

Specially since he had a bad inkling one or both of them were going to attempt to make him over. It always happened and if his hair didn't end up a frizzy curly mess when short and if he didn't look ridiculous with shorn hair - it made him look like he had a bad sunburn- he would just get rid of it. It wasn't as if he could dye it. His complexities was fair and he would look sallow and washed out if he attempted to make it black. Hiding in the archives was sounding really good at the moment.

Joscelin wonder briefly if putting both the screechy girl with the yellow and the one with the terror causing pink in the same room would lead to a catfight. Or lead to the most horrifying friendship of likeminded individuals and destroy the weyr.

Well, Warden's was never going to be sane... he sort of knew that when he came here. Willing came here at that.
Still beat out the thought of going home.

Keeping calm was a constant battle comparable to holding back the tide. Even when one of the golds went and apparently Impressed a boy, even when there was a pink dragon, even when the dragon in the shiny egg turned out to be yet another new colour C'tis hardly reacted.

At least it looked like the eggs would be safe now thanks to Descanth and what's her name, the green built like a bull. Berath, or some such. When her voice rang in his mind his lips pursed and his shoulders knotted. She was, as far as C'tis was concerned, entirely correct. He might despise M'onk for it more - M'onk was just so easy to hate - but his opinion of C'ross had changed, and he couldn't imagine the change being reversible. No position was worth following an order like that....

So he would give up his post rather than kill like that on demand? He supposed he would. Perhaps Vit had just found his moral cut off before he had, decided that telling M'onk he was out of line back there when the poor damn dragonless woman had been paraded before the candidates was more important than keeping his job safe. They'd both grafted and clawed for what they had and Vit had given it up. Did that make Vit the better man?... Probably.

C'tis watched a man scrabble his way down the Stands towards the shiny dragon of uncertain colour and wished he had a drink on him.
