All Marcus had to saw was booze, and Lex was immediately joining the man and Ami to grab some bubbly, and show his face a little. He was mostly there for the free champagne, though.
"Oh, lighten up." Lex laughed, handing Ami a glass of the bubbly before taking a swig of it himself. He looked over towards the one sided argument and sighed, drinking a little more. It would take more than champagne to take the Lifer down, but at least he could try to enjoy his drink.
...Leon could probably use a drink too, really. He didn't know the other Lifer well, but he'd seen him around the labs. A quick hand to the shoulder, and Lex was offering the man a drink.
"Happy New Year." He said, ignoring the fact that Jerry was still trying to argue with the kickboxer. "Best if you just leave it be."

The answer was clear and precise. "I have no family here Jerry. Plus starting fights was my life's calling, after all." Leon explained again, and took a step back form Jerry and the others in turn. "No you are right, I wouldn't. Then again I wouldn't try and amputate someone's limb off either."
It had to be left there when Lex came up and offered a glass, which he did take gratefully. "Cheers, Happy New year to you as well, Lex." he said with a grin and downed the drink like water. To say he needed that was an understatement when it began to warm him from the inside out.

Jerry snorted, watching as friends closed in to Leon's rescue. "Starting fights isn't what landed you in Life. If your intentions are as good as you claim, you have nothing to fear. We're all brothers here. Whether you like it, respect that, or not." That grunted, the Sun Hunter turned to storm back to the table that held the refreshments, cracking open another can of soda with a sour expression.

When Melvin slipped out, Jordan caught the motion in his peripheral vision and looked back towards the door. His eyebrows went up as he realized who was making an escape. As Melvin approached, Jordan straightened up. "Hey, dude. You okay?" he asked as Melvin came within earshot.

Melvin had apparently had enough of whatever had been said as he seemed to ditch the gathering for a bit himself, Rep didn't hinder him, just glanced over as Jordan asked if he was okay. He was much more in control and rejuvenated by the breather and felt he could probably handle the gathering again. Untangling himself from leaning on Jordan was reluctant, but he wasn't one to intervene on other people's emotions. Jordan would probably have more luck without him there.
"Probably shouldn't leave Ace in there." he said vaguely, excusing himself before Melvin had time to reply.
Harrison got a sympathetic smirk as he re-entered the party. "Did I miss much?"

He forgot that the pair made their escape and if he had seen where they were hiding, he would have went in the other direction. Having been called, he couldn't really turn around and brush them off.
As he approached, he watched Rep decide to leave and felt that he was making more of a deal than Melvin wanted it to be, but at least the red-head was returning to the party than leaving it for good.
When Rep left, Melvin leaned back against the wall. "Yeah. I'm fine. Just -people talking a bit too openly I guess. "
He looked over at Jordan. "I was just asking Leon a few things. I didn't expect everyone to crowd around and jump in with their own two cents. Doesn't exactly bring people together." He finished his glass and went to fill it again. "Sorry."
He could only hope the warmth of booze would combat the twisting pain of homesickness.

"Easy, Jerry," Harrison smirked into his drink, "As far as grieving widows go, it's not over until it's over. I used to think that meant dying, but hell. We got proof enough that's not true. We're half human. There's a lot of folks who aren't here to celebrate with us. I'm in what I consider a good business, with good ******** company. As for what comes after... I'll still be in good company, anyhow."
He hadn't believed in an Afterlife before, but folks anywhere had needs. And there were a whole lot of dead folks. Even if business there was bad, and he was increasingly convinced there would be business...wasn't like he minded getting his hands dirty.
He swirled the drink around as Rep returned.
"Just philosophizing," he told him.

"I guess there were a few people interested in the answers." Jordan sipped his own drink, shrugged. "You don't have to apologize. Seems like something happens every time there's a get-together - if it's not one thing, it's another." He fell silent and leaned against the wall, keeping Melvin quiet company.

"And people want me to keep bringing everyone together. Seems like people get more distant the more they are shoved together." If Jerry's outlook was right, then he had traded in a great family for a horrible one that gave no shits about each other. "Not exactly the best family around."
He took another sip, looking up at the ceiling a moment. "You've been here a while. Have people always been like this here or has it just gotten worse?"

"Pft. Philosophy. Fancy word for navel gazing." he sounded cheerier than he had been when he left, determined to ignore the negativity that had been prevalent. "Philosophy...ing, about what?"

Gale had literally not been paying attention to a single thing going on in the common room whatsoever and now stood with a glass of wine in his hand beside Leon.
"And what, pray tell, am I supposed to do with this 'shake weight' contraption that I found on my doorstep?"

Wilson cautiously stepped in as soon as the argument managed to fizzle out. He looked around with wide eyes before he slid across the room to grab a glass of champagne. His shoulders relaxed as soon as he took a sip. While he wasn’t one to drink much, a cup here and there was always welcomed. Smiling pleasantly, he waved to Ami and Marcus before heading over toward Lex and Leon. “Happy New Year! Hope next year treats you both well,” he greeted with a half-nod before taking another sip of his drink.

Suddenly Gale, with suddenly Gale questions. Len knew that one of those kegs was going to be fished by the end of the night. 'Uh.... teach that thing that you are its Master?" he offered weakly to the younger hunter.
He could already feel the nerves acting up as more people came in. "Happy New Year Wilson." he answered back, trying to keep the hollow tone out of his voice.

Rep leaned on the table and raised a brow at Harrison. "Wow man. You like." He waved the mostly empty bottle at him. "I see you have this like exciting party well in hand. I mean educated debates and s**t." he leaned over to give him an amicable nudge, staying close by even after he did, keeping his voice low. "If that's fun, if there's a party at the wedding you urnae getting near organising it."
"You need stronger booze awright?" he added, like a doctor prescribing an earnest cure.
