Against us you'll never win... "Yeah, I guess we could meet him sometime." Cameron said thoughtfully while tapping his chin. "We'll just have to stop by the candy store to get some taffy. He loves that stuff."
Fredrich just fixed Ellery with that piercing stare of his. "Did you seriously take me out here to tell me that Cameron was teasing you?" he asked with a vein pulsing at the side of his head. ...so you'd better run.

Daniel Berry" Bleh!" Daniel grimaced, shaking his head. " I hate candy." But Ellery was persistent. " If one person thinks it, others will. The only people that need to think it are Lock and Ethan, and Lock's already getting doubts about it. He tried to call me out on it!" Against us you'll never win... "What?!" Cameron gasped, nearly dropping his ice cream. "How can you hate candy?! That's like hating ice cream! In fact, that is hating ice cream! These things are the candy of dairy products, you know." he informed with a wag of his finger.
"Ellery, we're supposed to act like a couple." Fredrich reminded with a sigh. "If we only act like a couple around Han and Ethan, don't you think that would be even more suspicious? As long as you know who you care about, don't worry about it. Now stop falling for Cameron's taunts and let's go back inside." he said and turned to leave. "Besides, I'm sure as hell not the loving puppy in this 'relationship'." he grumbled. ...so you'd better run.

Against us you'll never win... "Yeah? What, you didn't like him?" Cameron asked, not aware of what had happened to the boy. "What'd he not want you to say?"
"Have you never been in a relationship before?" Fredrich snapped. "In public we hold hands now and then and occasionally smile sweetly at each other. That's all. We don't have to kiss or buy a hotel room together to prove anything. Daniel and Cameron seem to already know we're not a real couple, but they don't seem to care either, so we're fine on that end. Now do you have anymore questions or shall we head back inside so we don't leave Daniel with Cameron any longer like you were so against in the first place?" ...so you'd better run.

Daniel BerryDaniel sunk lower into the seat, twiddling his thumbs. " He... he did... stuff... to me..." he answered, voice getting softer. " I never said I had a problem with leaving Daniel with Cameron. I just don't like it when I'm alone with him. His eyes stare into my soul." Ellery shivered, walking over to the door. " And by the way, no, I haven't. I've been waiting for Lock since I was twelve years old, Detective, and in waiting, I wouldn't be distracted. I haven't even been kissed yet." Against us you'll never win... "Yeah? What kind of stuff?" Cameron asked with interest shining in his cyan eyes.
Fredrich to the rescue. "I hope you two were having fun." he said as he got in his seat. He glanced over and blinked when he saw Daniel so upset. "Hmm? What's wrong?" He looked to his friend for an answer.
Cameron only shrugged. "He talked about his stepdad, and I just wanted to know why he didn't like him so much."
Fredrich stiffened. "Officer, that's a story for another time." he said quietly. "Erm, why don't you talk about the last time you visited your father?"
"Eh, okay." he said, realizing that something must have happened if Fredrich was addressing him by his title. "So I see my old man, right. Dude's smiling like crazy as always, and he's got this one guy all cut up. Man, you should have seen it!" he began ranting on. ...so you'd better run.

Daniel BerryAlthough he was upset, it didn't long for Daniel to forget about everything and start laughing about Cameron's father. " I really wanna meet him!" decided Daniel, clapping his hands. Meanwhile, Ellery showed up beside Fredrich, setting his hand on the detective's arm. Against us you'll never win... The cop smiled. "I'm going to visit him tomorrow, maybe you could-"
"No."
Cameron looked at Fredrich, appalled. "What! But my dad would totally-"
"Terrify him." Fredrich replied casually with a fire in his dark blue eyes. "You make him out to be some kind of performer, Cameron. Have you forgotten how many people are still traumatized by what he's done."
"But, but the kids here all love him!" Cameron argued. "And as long as we have taffy-"
"My answer's still no."
Seeing as though Fredrich ended the argument, Cameron groaned and flopped his arms on the table. "Aww! You never let me have any fun!" he whined.
A vein pulsed at the side of the detective's head. "I'm not your guardian!" ...so you'd better run.

Daniel BerryThe boy groaned, mirroring Cameron's movements. " But he sounds so cool!" whined the child, pouting. " I never get to watch funny people be funny." Meanwhile, Ellery set a hand on Cameron's back and patted awkwardly. " There, there. Detective Waltz and I have to bring Daniel to visit his mother tomorrow anyway." Daniel suddenly stopped whining. " I'm seeing Mommy tomorrow?" he asked, sitting up. " But I thought she was too sick." The songwriter sighed, setting his feminine hands on the table and looking up at Daniel. " Yes, she's very sick, Daniel. That's why we're going to go see her. I called her about an hour ago, and she's very excited to see you, and she wants you to remember that none of this is your fault."
