Morag blinked down at the fledgling that landed in front of her, tilting her head a little at the words flying back and forth between the group. A trade huh? She could do that. You could find unusual things in unusual places, and sometimes it could prove unusually useful too.

She hummed in thought, rubbing her paw against the ground. "Hmm... what about Kivuli-kijivu? It means Grey Shadow." She said finally. "What do you know about this Graos Oma? We don't know much about him."

The words were foreign in her mouth, strange on her tongue. She glanced back at the others, shrugging her shoulders.

"Its not like they'd be a burden to bring along with us... and they could prove useful."

(( xD; had to put it in red, since all of Morag's text is bold... ))

Saoiraed nosed his way through the group to peer at the...well really they were little more than hatchlings. Probably harmless enough, right? A glance up at where Peri was winging away, high and fast, keeping a gap between herself and Yoan. More bids could be useful...as allies.

Names? Well that...that wasn't too hard. He rummaged about in his brain for names. Actually...this was hard. He'd never named anything. Ever. Hmm.

"What is Graos Oma, anyways? Your mother? Why didn't she name you?" He continued to think a bit though, and eventually blurted, "...Matumbo? Uh. It means...well. Guts. Insides." Okay, so he was really bad at naming things. But one was a vulture, right? Maybe it'd not be that bad.

The wretched smell of death and rotting flesh hit Ali Baba like a splash of cold water. He wrinkled up his nose and followed along, keeping right on the tail of Morag as the small party braved further into enemy territory. Water tainted by the dead... a waste of the desert's most precious commodity and a death sentence on any that might have depended on it. The faces of the departed were foreign to him but the meaning was clear enough- their enemy was not a kind one. They must have had their own resources further in, and plenty of them, if they were willing to foul such a lifeline.

The little birds earned an amused twist of his maw. Again, he let the other members handle the little pests and instead busied himself with keeping a sharp eye on the shadows cast down from around the riverbed. Surely such a grave had no guards...

The proposal from the birds caught his ear. With a short look and a twist of his maw. "A name? I would say
Bakhtiyar. It means fortunate. And that is what you are that we ask politely. This time."

Aithne's fail flicked behind her almost angrily. She couldn't help it, not at all. As more and more went on she could feel more and more frustration build up. She felt like every time they were starting to get some where something else got into her way. A snarl lifted on her lips before she flopped down on her haunches watching the birds. She was unsure of what to say. She felt like they kind of fell into this once again with talking to the birds. "Here we go with the birds again." She mumbled under her breath. She then turned toward the birds. She guessed that it was pretty good to hear what these young birds had to say they could give something good away. Yet she didn't like the way the young birds were going about it. She felt like this was one of those times where young ones like to tease and poke fun at. She remembered doing that kind of teasing when she was a young cub.

Listening to the lions, the vulture began to get more and more ruffled. His beak began to clack as his feather began to billow out, making him all the bigger looking. Hopping over to Kero, he began pecking at her, clearly agitated at the suggestion of EATING the fledgelings. "You will NOT be eating them!"

Serkan suddenly made a face. "Fledgelings look familiar because they look like YOU... How someone want babies with you...?" He did admire the vulture's desire to protect his young, though. An admirable trait in something so... Vile. He could only shake his head, then went and sat by Aithne. "Perhaps if we find Nergui, and too many to reasonably escape... We throw birds at. Feathers, claws, beaks, squawking, they prove distraction to keep Nergui occupied while we escape..." If the damned things were going to be around, they may as well come to SOME use.

Mkazo stepped forward, eyeing the chosen corpse a moment before rearing up to sink his claws into it. The hide and flesh began to tear open as he pulled, before he latched into a spot that wasn't quite as rotten and managed to turn the body over. Now that he could, he moved behind it to begin shoving it roughly in Elcca's direction, grunting with the effort. He didn't bother trying to avoid breathing in the reek. Unless he left the area, there was no escaping the foul smell of death. Once he deemed it close enough, he stepped back and shook himself as though he could shake the scent of death that now clung to his own coat. Aside from a few bits of dead hair, he failed. It seemed until they found a clean source of water, he'd be faintly smelling like a corpse himself.

The chicks' words caught his ear, and he flashed them an indecipherable look. "Mear. Gore, since your sort likes it so damn much." He turned his attention back to Elcca, waiting to see if she'd find what she was looking for. It wasn't going to hurt him to shove corpses around until she did...he already stank.

That was a very strange request indeed. "Hraeslveg comes to mind." He glanced down at the body below them. "Corpse-eater." Ironically, Azulon had learned the name from a lion he himself had subsequently killed and eaten, perhaps even the last one, if he remembered correctly. Because yes, sometimes he'd exchanged names first. To be polite.

He flicked an ear to the side. These chicks were offspring of the vulture? Well just great. Hopefully they'd take the names, give them some information and get lost. They didn't need another moocher following them about.

–

He should have known those chicks would be a little strange. It was a new development, and Hrafn couldn't help but tilt his head, curious. Should he be going off and warning someone? Their mother? Saying 'hey, guess what, your new babies are doing with the firekin.'

But he supposed it was a little admirable that the little snappers were doing something for themselves, and he shrugged and ruffled his feathers. He just hoped it wouldn't backfire on them in the end. Though he was hardly the most doting big sibling, he figured he cared for their well-being, and all.

The three little birds listened intently to the offered names. It might have seemed like such a simple thing, but to them, it was more than anyone had ever given. It wasn't just a name, it was a change in destiny.

"We've never seen him," one of the birds said. "They said we were supposed to be his eyes. But he doesn't come. So we are tired of waiting! So we will be your eyes."

"He's not our mommy! Our mommy is big and black and has a million teeth!" the other reported. "But dont worry she wont bother us."

Finally, it seemed they'd decided.

Bluefire Dragonz

The first female took an immediate shine to Morag, and flew back down in front of her. "I am Kivuli-kijivu! We wont be burdens at all!"

The second, a young vulture, seemed to perk up at Azulon's suggestion. "Hraeslveg? I think we can come to an understanding."

Finally, the only boy out of the three singled out Saoiraed's suggestion. Maybe he wanted to be as intimidating as his sister! "Matumbo? I like the sound of that!"

[[ Parents: Terama x Vunde
Colorist: Ecavi
Notes: Terama is Amaret, the goddess of pestilence. All three are seers. Characters are however you'd like them to be!

Knowledge:

They are young, so not much!

When they were small, their mother allowed a nergui seeress to claim them as 'gifts' for Graos Oma. Sensing that the three had powerful abilities, it was her hope to impress the unseen ruler with three powerful bird allies.

...unfortunately, then you came along! It is up to you whether or not the bird returns home with the firekin.

Regardless of that fact, they never met Graos Oma, or even know much about him. Only that they waited a very long time to be given as gifts, and he never came. In the meantime, other hatchlings in Amaret's clutch received names while they were passed by.

They may not understand their mother is a goddess, but they probably know she is very powerful and a bit strange.

Abilities:

- Because they are known avians, they may fly and even land close to Nergui without attracting any attention to themselves.

- If a Nergui NPC has a given name, they may know it.

- If there's any other specific thing you think they should be able to do, just note it! Its probably fine. <3 ]]

Completely absorbed with what she was doing now, Elcca missed the bizarre allegiance the firekin had just forged. Instead, she was paw deep in some stranger thanks to Mkazo's bulk holding it back. And she was very happy for that!

Even if any notion of spared cleanliness psychological only.

"Ugh," Elcca winced against the stench. She could feel it just at the edge of her claw, but couldn't quite get a hook on it. It was times like this where she questioned why she hadn't simply found some small pride to worship her as a goddess. That seemed to work fine for many beautiful young seers. She bet they didn't have to ever reach into dead bodies on suicide missions.

And then, just like that, she felt her claw connect. Practically balking, she wrenched her paw backwards and pulled out the odd thing, letting it fall from her claw into the water. The water was murky enough, but it washed the strange object as clean of the filth as was likely ever possible. Pushing it back to the bank, she turned it over on the grass to get a good look at it.

It was some sort of metal disk, tied to a string of teeth. An odd thing to put into someone, in any case. But it didn't tell them much. "Perhaps these were friends. Some way to treat them."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:29 pm

The smile that had threatened finally broke out on Morag's face and she couldn't help but chuckle. It was odd, wanting to smile on a mission like this, but the baby birds were just... rather cute and endearing. Especially the little grey female that had approached her.

"Well, I hope we can be friends then, and work together." She said.

The little bird puffed her chest up with pride, her wings ruffling up. Finally, she had a name! With a flick of her wings, she fluttered over to her father and landed beside him, strutting around with a cocky tilt to her head. "I am Kivuli-kijivu!" She said proudly again, to him this time. "Graos Oma will have to use his own eyes from now on."

Shaking her head, the dark lioness turned to see what the others were doing, her nose wrinkling as she saw Elcca elbow deep in one of the corpses. For a lioness that had disliked the baboon graveyard they had found earlier, she was doing surprisingly well with the death here. Pacing closer, she eyed the bit of whatever it was the other had pulled out of the body.

"A necklace? Why would it be inside of the body?" She wondered. Glancing up, she searched for one of their party. "Mwako? Does your friend still have that bit of metal from the baboon graveyard? Could we take a look at it?"

Mkazo narrowed his eyes, staring hard at the thing that Elcca had wrenched forth from the carcass. Possibly a necklace, a thing of teeth and metal and not at all what he would have expected to find stuffed inside of the cavities of a rotting corpse. This trip seemed absolutely bursting with reasons he didn't like the Nergui. Those bloody birds seemed to have liked them fine before changing their minds, though. He glanced in their direction. "Do the birds have any idea why we'd be finding trinkets in dead bodies?" He didn't care to trust the things, but at the same time...they seemed enthusiastic enough about their new allies.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:28 am

Vunde happily preened his little gray fledgeling, clacking his beak in what could only be called a happy pattern. "And that's a VERY good thing, Kivuli-kijivu! You don't want to end up like the hare I told you about, do you? I think humans call it... Stockholm Syndrome or something..." He motioned with his good wing. "Anyway, did they do anything to these bodies, or are they just putrid and rotting with trinkets shoved up their gullets?" He looked over in amusement at Elcca. "If you'd asked, I wouldn't have minded sticking my head in there, you know... It's what vultures DO, after all." Then he turned back to the fledgelings. "Were are your two sisters? With your mother?"

Going over to Elcca, Serkan looked at the trinket funny. "That is weird thing." Then he motioned with his head a bit upstream, where the water was cleaner. "Should go, ah, wash arm, maybe...?" At least it looked like they hadn't polluted the WHOLE stream. Which was still rather disgusting. If he'd been hungry before, the lion corpses had more than chased that feeling away and replaced it with nausea. He then tilted his head, eyebrows going up as he realized something. "Corpses here a while... Where flocks of vultures, crows, ravens?" It was hard to believe only three fledgelings were pecking at this many corpses... And now that stupid green vulture.

Oh, so one of them had taken to that. But unfortunately it did look like these little fledgelings would be sticking around. And, worse, one might be sticking closer to him. Oh well, hopefully the new Hraelsveg would be less irritating than he who was evidently her father. "I should hope so." He answered passively, before turning to look back at where Elcca and Mkazo had been fussing with a body. What was that?

The young vulture tilted her head at Mkazo, considering answering. But she didn't know the answer! So oh well. "Hrafn!" She called out a new name, and turned to look a bit further upstream, where the raven stood by the water. She had seen him land earlier, hopefully he would still be there. And he was! "D'you know, Hrafn?" Hraelsveg asked, blissfully unaware of his less than friendly encounter with these very lions.

He hadn't really been hoping for his sibling to call their attention to him. Hrafn's feathers stuck up slightly, and he considered flying off. But he decided that he may as well stick around a bit longer. He'd just have to be careful unless the lions turned hostile again. Hopefully they wouldn't recognize him, maybe they were the sort that found all ravens looked the same. "No." He cawed, finally. He didn't know why the Nergui did a lot of things. Besides, there were so many better uses for shiny things like that!

Aithne almost wanted to cry when she realized that the birds were going to be joining them. She knew they were good to have around to fly and help them see but she couldn't help but to be frustrated, they were still young and she felt like so far the birds had been one of the most frustrating parts of the entire trip. Other than that she was also frustrated by fruent stopping. She couldn't help but to pause and then turn toward the others. She sighed and then turned her attention to Elcca. "A necklace?" She asked curiously. She wasn't that sure of what to think about it. Not really at all. She felt like it was getting more and more odd. With each thing it was getting stranger.

Mwako'damu looked to the dark lioness, then to Kooka, "Kooka, show them."

"They will not take?"

"They will not take unless it is necessary, if that happens, I'll find you something new," he said, as he saw the bird's expression fade with the idea of the shiny thing being taken away.

Kooka left the shoulder of Mwako'damu to land before the dark lioness, Friend, he reminded himself. Kooka held it out in his talons. "I show, Kooka shows you, and others, compare?" perhaps they would be similar.

"Would it be some sort of task, to leave a trinket with a fallen warrior?" though make them eat it, that was strange. Less it was placed there. Ritual, it seemed.
