"Alright." He nodded to the man who offered food ordered in, he did not really mind where the food came from as long as long as it was food. The boy sat down in the chair offered to him by his new father, and turned to look at the woman fetching drinks. "Ive been meaning to ask. Why was I the 'right one'? I have just been wondering this whole time." He kept his voice at the even tempo it always seemed to be at, revealing nothing as deep as what you could see, his intentions for whatever he said or asked also remained veiled.

Mom and Dad

Mother and father looked at each other for a moment before smiling. Mother brought the drinks to the counter and sat one in front of each of them. “It’s kind of hard to explain.” Mother started. “Have you ever met someone or seen something and instantly thought it was right?” Father asked. They both smiled, unable to truly explain it. Maybe it was because Gab was quiet and bottled up like them. He was the son they never had. Umi was too outspoken and wild for them.

"No, not really. But that is probably because I have never really been able to stay with one certain thing or person for a long while. I sort of gave up on that after moving rooms with other orphans and watching them get adopted." Gabriel shrugged. He knew that something felt off about them, they were not the real thing that people really were, they were more like the kind masks that came in to snap up his friends then turn sour as they used them to rake in money. BUt he sat there quiet as usual, he tried to find just what their intentions were behind this without saying another word. At this point he thought back to Umi, hoping he wasn't still too angry about earlier.

Mom and Dad

The happy family ordered in food and ate at the table happily. They talked and gossiped about random things until it was time to clean up and go to bed. Father cleared the table as mother did the few dishes. Soon everything was clean. “So it’s bed time. You still have school in the morning. And We have a long day at work.” Mother said. Father looked at his watch and frowned. “Umi’s out late again.” He said. Mother just swated her hand. “Leave him be. He’ll come home when he wants,” She said, detest in her voice. “Good night Gabriel.” She said, kissing his head. "Good night son." Father said, messing up his hair a bit.

Gabriel tried to help with as much cleaning as possible, he was usually the one doing the cleaning at the orphanage so it just seemed like the thing he was meant to do after food was eaten. The boy stood there as both of them showed their affection toward him in the usual perfect family type setting. "Good night mom and dad." He said in a blank voice, still observing the two in their fake home habitat. He then returned to his room where he close the door and cracked open his fairytale books, reading for a long while into the night.

Mom and Dad

Mother and father disappeared into their bedrooms. They showered and changed, falling asleep quickly and deeply. Not much could wake them except the sound of their phones going off. They would actually leave by morning. They had more work to do and more business trips to go on. They had come home just long enough to met their new son.

Umi stumbled in late into the night, and early for the morning. It was like two when he stumbled through the door. He wasn’t drunk tonight. But he was tired. His date had some weird fetishes that he had to play along with. He walked up to his room, quiet, but not too quiet. He wasn’t sure who was home and who was asleep so he tried to get to his room quickly. He was exhausted, but wanted a quick shower.

Gabriel was still up however, and in the shower already. He decided that he needed to be cleaner than he was after he finished reading another story from the grim fairy tales book of his that he treasured. He had laid out his night clothes on the racks where the towels were, he had cleaned them as well after he was finished with all of his homework and he was sure that the parents were asleep. He was oblivious to Umi's return.

Umi was in his bedroom and threw his clothes into the dirty clothes hamper. He wasn’t used to people being up at this hour as he walked naked to the hall and grabbed a towel. But that was when he heard the shower on. He grumbled when he remember Gabriel lived here. He wrapped the towel around his waist and walked to the door knocking on it kind of louder. “Hey, Gab. I need to use the shower too.” He said. “So don’t take forever.” He said. “Knock on my door when you are done.” He said, walking back towards his room.

"I'll be right out." The boy called from the shower, making a point to finished up a bit faster and get out to dry himself off. He wrapped a towel around his shoulders and body and opened the door a little bit to peek out at Umi. "How was work? You came home really late. What kind of job do you have anyway I have been meaning to ask you."

Umi stopped when he heard the shower turn off. Was he done already? And then the boy popped his head out with a bucket full of questions and comments. “I work and a café and a waiter.” He said, both of them standing before one enough naked. Umi hadn’t realized it yet because he hadn’t looked in the mirror. But he had a hickey on his neck, and scars on his back from his date. “But I don’t work in the evening.” He explained. “I was on a date.”

"Oh, well I see that." Gabriel mentioned, seeing the marks left by another person. He knew what they were, he had seen them before on the mistress of the orphanage herself, that woman gave him nightmares sometimes. He never could forget how many times she forced him to stay up all night and clean the bathroom floors spotless, and when she meant spotless she meant it. "Well have a good night." Gabriel went to gather his things and leave the bathroom to wander back to his room and get changed.

Umi looked down at himself but saw nothing. And he wouldn’t until he stepped into the bathroom. Umi was a strange kid. He gathered his things and left the bathroom. Umi scratched his head a little bit and stepped into the bathroom, closing the door. He looked at himself in the mirror and frowned at the hickey on his neck; he turned around and saw the scratched. “I’m going to kill him.” He said. He could go on another date with his next client tomorrow looking like this… damn it. He placed his towel on the toilet seat and jumped in the shower to quickly shower so he could go to sleep.

Gabriel was busying himself with the task of fully drying off in his room, as usual he kept the door open just a bit without realizing it. All that time in the orphanage made him used to the fact that the other boys would sometimes see him changing, not that it mattered to any of them, the only thing that mattered was getting work done on time and maybe, just maybe, being adopted.

Umi hoped into the shower and cleaned himself off quickly. He washed his head and his body before just letting the warm water relax him. Once he felt like he could fall asleep standing up, he turned the water off and left the shower. Grabbing his towel he dried off a bit before exiting the bathroom. He looked over at Gabriel’s door and noticed it slightly open. He could see a partially nude Gab through the crack. But he didn’t linger, in case he was caught. He walked to his bedroom and shut the door all the way.

Once he was finished drying off and changing into his night clothes, Gabriel neatly put his new school supplies back into the backpack and had his uniform for the next morning folded and laying on top of it. He then climbed under the covers and looked out the window at the moon for a while before closing his eyes to go to sleep. It did not take him that long to drift into a dreamy sleep, though the dreams hopped back and forth between good, bad, and weird.
