Shikaku shifted uncomfortably under the kage's returned gaze, but thankfully it was cut short, though that didn't help much when her words continued. It really was a test then. If he failed, he would be out of the forces for good. He had the tact to show a bit of shame as she listed his shortcomings, pickpocketing, association with the village's criminals, learning from Timmy? That one made him pause and blink in surprise. Ignoring the fact that the man had never successfully taught him anything, at least as far as ninjutsu was concerned, learning from him was considered on the same level as a crime?

"My chakra control is fine." the boy corrected once he was given clearance to speak. He'd even been told before that it was excellent. There was just one problem... "I just have a hard time with some forms of manipulation." he shrugged his shoulders. He didn't know why he couldn't do simple jutsu like the bunshin, but whatever it was didn't seem to bother his ability with henge, or the cloak of invisibility.

But corrections on his chakra control weren't what she had asked for. And being secretive, unlike with the jounin, Nagisa, was pointless here. There was no question if he was in the Raikage's office, that he was talking to the real Raikage, and seeing as she already seemed to know a good portion of his past, keeping secrets could only hurt him more. So... Well, it was time to bite the bullet. "This may not be the best thing to admit..." Shikaku spoke, still a bit hesitant. "But, for every time I've been caught, at least that I know of, I've gotten away five more." He didn't know if the ANBU might have spotted him all those other times, but it was true, at least at a quick estimate, that for every time he'd been caught and punished for his thefts, he'd gotten away without pursuers about five more times. "And that was before I learned henge." he added, realizing that it said a whole lot more about what he could do with the jutsu if the woman knew what he could do without it.

"I can accurately mimic anyone in my academy class, including the instructors. Give me an hour to observe someone, and I'll be able to mimic them too. That's how I passed the academy. I can easily move unseen and unheard, or unnoticed if need be. Give me time to improve my skills, and learn new ones, and I can be one of the best infiltration specialists in the village. A commodity I hear we're short on." As he continued to speak, Shikaku grew more and more confident, and adjusted his stance accordingly and more so, holding himself in a pose denoting respect, but also skill and power, similar to that of ANBU he'd observed over the years. Perhaps, if he impressed her with what he could do, and made strong reference to what he could become, he could get through this with his career intact. He didn't want to be out in the open and showy, like most modern ninja did, like most of the other academy students or ninja he'd met in the streets did. He knew that if he took that path he would likely die on his first real mission. No, he wanted to stay where he belonged. Where real ninja belong. In the shadows.

"Then you would choose Nagisa's way then, She would say 'if the enemy knows your name, you have failed' and except for a few, none outside of the village know hers. She has even managed to keep out of every bingo book, save for our own and Kirigakures. Failing one time out of five means you would have up to five missions before you are captured or killed, and if you entered the line of work you are proposing we would do everything in our power to make sure of the latter." She paused for several moments again, watching the boy and making sure he understood what that meant. It was the only place he could hold within the shinobi ranks. He would learn things far more crippling than what Jishaku knew, and he would be expected to keep that information secret at all costs. "For now, you are to continue missions as usual. You will have to demonstrate that you can keep up with the other Genin at least. In time, I will assign you a mission of discretion. If you refuse or fail this mission, you can consider your shinobi career finished."

Shikaku listened, watching intently as the raikage spoke. Her words had changed tone, no longer sounding like a death sentence, but instead leading into something. Did that mean he'd passed? He gulped, but nodded in understanding at the statement about being killed. The implication was simple. If the choice was death or captivity, death was to be taken. He sincerely hoped he'd never have to make that choice, but it was understandable. An infiltration specialist was privy to information and secrets most other shinobi would never see. Information they would kill for. And information he would be expected to die to protect.

And then, after a pause, she continued, ordering him... To continue performing missions, and keep up with the other genin? Then he had passed, and that was confirmation of it! And then she mentioned a special mission as well, a mission of discretion, so one attuned to his chosen path. He didn't even care about her next sentence. Refuse or fail and he was out? He wouldn't refuse. Not when it was his path into being a true shinobi. And he wouldn't fail. Not when it was so important that he succeed. All the times he'd been caught, were because he'd made mistakes. Not mistakes because he lacked the skill, but because he got lazy, tried to cut corners. He wouldn't be doing that anymore. Not as a ninja.

The moment she finished speaking, Shikaku dropped to one knee, bowing his head as low as it could go without bending him in half. "Understood! And thank you." This day had been insane. A series of ups and downs, twists and turns, achievements of lifelong goals only to have them snatched away, then dangled before his nose. But now, not it had been given to him for real. By the word of the Raikage, he really was going to be a ninja now. There was one more test, yes, but he had no doubt he could pass it. And should the worst happen and he failed, maybe he would be fortunate enough to have done well on his other missions, and retain his place through those. Yes, his future was looking good. Far better than it had five minutes ago.

the Kage waved him off after he bowed, but a smile did cross her concealed face. He could indeed prove useful. She did not yet know what task she would lay before him, but a master of disguise could possibly even fool Nagisa the master of illusions, and put her one step further from the seat of Raikage. Shikaku was able to show some level of manners as well, which was absolutely a plus. Laxus was a bit of a wild card, but he could become an ally if he would only shape up. Shikaku was almost certainly an ally at least as long as she bore the garb of a Kage. If he was willing to lay down his life in order to be a shinobi, and understood failure to stand up to the tasks before him meant his job, he would at least second any thoughts against her.

Raising his head after a few moments of silence, Shikaku saw the kage immediately gesture towards the door, clearly dismissing him. Nodding silently, he stood and briskly made his way to, and through, the door, closing it quietly behind him. Outside of the room, the boy paused, breathing heavier than he felt quite normal for not having done anything strenuous. He was a ninja now, for real. A smile tried to crawl onto his face, but he fought it down. This wasn't the time to be grinning like an idiot. Not yet. But still, the grin fought it's way onto his features as he began to slowly make his way back down the tower. Not only was he officially a ninja now, but soon enough the Raikage herself was going to give him special missions! Wait until he told Timmy about...

Timmy. The grin left his face instantly as he stopped in his tracks. Timmy's stunt had nearly lost him his place as a ninja. had lost him his pay for the foreseeable future! The boy's once grin twisted into a scowl as he reached the exit and made his way out onto the street. Timmy was the cause of everything that had gone wrong today. The reason his day of victory had been tainted with so much regret. The man would have to pay for this. Hell, he'd make the man pay for every copper he lost in mission pay paying off that stupid meal. Meal that Timmy was supposed to pay for in the first place.

Scowling deeply, Shikaku made his way back towards the training grounds. That was where Timmy practically lived. If he was going to find him, it'd be there. Dealing with the man would take precedence now even over visiting his new home. He had all night to explore a house.

Kensei gently pushed the door open when he noticed the lobby was crowded with civilians. He couldn't really understand why the city was so busy, but all he wanted to know was what the Raikage wanted. Kensei walked up to the receptionist desk and cleared his throat. "yeah the Raikage wanted to see me....I'm not sure how important it is but I could come back later." Kensei said as he tried to leave. He hated crowds more that spiders and snakes, but he could deal with it for now.

The receptionist recognized Kensei as he walked in and had alerted the Raikage before he even got to the desk, for she had recognized him from earlier in the day. By time he pushed his way past the rabble he had already been cleared. "Go on up, she is expecting you" was all the receptionist bothered to say, as she worked through a small pile of paperwork.

"Of course." Kensei said as he started to walk up the stairs. He began to wonder what the Raikage wanted. Maybe he was going to be fired for the previous mission. Can ninjas even get fired? he thought as he reached the door. He was going to turn the doorknob and open the door, but he remember what happened last time. Instead he knocked on the door twice and waited for an answer.

(yeesh, in the future you can go ahead and just take control of the receptionist and have her let you through. While the precautions make sense, they are a bit... annoying in RP.

Anyways you will be up against Sora, Laxus and Shikaku, you might want to think of how to handle that. razz Hope this isn't too much trouble.))

"Come in" Today's Raikage called/ When the boy entered the room he would find himself looking at the same scene as always, the Kage sitting behind the desk, in the usual outfit hiding even the slightest sliver of skin from view. Except this time a headband lay across the desk bearing the Kumo Insignia and a slash through it. As soon as Kensei approached the desk she would speak. "You do not know this yet, but you have just become a rogue of the Kumogakure village." It would probably take a minute for the boy to understand, if he was clever enough. Ninja were never exiled if they were fired, for to do so would only invite attack. If a failed shinobi was lucky, they might be allowed to continue living a relatively free life, restricted to the walls of the village such as the failure Timmy the Quirk. However more often they were imprisoned or sentenced to death. Loose lips destroy nations after all.

"Of course you wouldnt be allowed to leave this room if that were actually true. One of your usual squadmates, Sora has demonstrated skill and intelligence enough for promotion. However I intend to test her." Kensei would surely have noticed the girl's somewhat naive tendency to see everyone as a friend. As a former "friend" he would become a test not only of her ability, but of her devotion to Kumogakure.

"You will be marked as her target, and she will be expected to hunt you down and capture you. You will hide in the forest and when she finds you resist capture until she proves herself worthy of a higher rank. Do not go easy on her physically or emotionally." It would be a difficult task for the boy, to test her without pushing her too far and releasing her demon, but with his experience he should be capable enough. "She will have a team, though only Genin with little skills or experience."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 01, 2013 12:16 am

"Who's her squad?" Kensei simply asked as he picked up the headband. He agreed that she was a little, well extremely clumsy. That was kind of embarrassing and hopefully that habit could be broken after this 'mission'. "And am I going for a killing intent or just break a few bones? I'm fine with either honestly." Kensei asked as he tied his headband to his belt.

"Her squad will include Laxus, who you have worked with, and a more recent graduate whose abilities are... limited, mostly to Henge. Please observe their ability as well for they are not properly tested. Please leave them in usable condition, should they fail to get the upper hand, it would be better if we only lose shinobi to legitimate missions." Essentially, everything else was fair game so long as it didnt put the village in danger, cripple them for life, or end their life. "Giving her a team should allow her to demonstrate her leadership ability, or lack thereof".
PostPosted: Sat Mar 02, 2013 10:23 am

"So just mess with her mentally and rough her up. It sounds easy." This could actually be a good chance for Kensei to get rid of some of the anger he has against Laxus. As the the new genin he or she could only use henge. Maybe Kensei should go easy on him? Then again it would give away the whole plan. "Alright I guess I'm ready. But uh...even though I faced it once, what happens if Sora transforms?" Kensei asked. He actually wouldn't mind fighting it again, it's just the genin would most likely get in the way. "Matter of fact, don't tell me I'm sure I can handle it. Just tell me when to start."

The Raikage frowned when the boy declared he could take handle the demon release without help. It was the kind of thing that would get him killed, and Kumo was not exactly overflowing with shinobi. "If the demon is released you could very well die. The best advice I can give you is to keep it aimed away from the village." It was unlikely the Demon would escape entirely, probably just a partial transformation, but the Raikage wondered if Kensei had any understanding of the power of such a Demon. It was hard to give advice for such a scenario. Suddenly the Raikage's hand gestured toward the window. "Mind opening the window? its a bit hot in here, besides Rogues don' just walk out of the Raikage's office." It would simply be too risky for Sora to run into a supposed Rogue when she entered the tower. It would defeat the entire purpose of the scenario.

[kumo needs zip lines]
"Right. I'll send one of my birds just in case she does transform. Hopefully I can get backup in time." Kensei said as he opened the window. He started to move outside the windowsill and took on last look at the village before turning around. "Well I'll see you later." Kensei jumped off of the building and began jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

Enter from Village Center

Lemon-pudding-blonde hair bobbing up and down as it weaved through the crowd, the owner of the hair managed to slide her way up to the reception desk. Somehow, through some miracle of efficiency, despite the crowds, there wasn't a single line to the secretary. Sora walked expectantly to the line-less secretary, a light smile once again on her face despite hearing Nagisa's dead-serious voice just minutes ago. Sora could never be kept down for long. Besides, how bad could it be? she thought to herself,

(OOC: Personally, I think people just need to stop jumping in and out of windows. I mean, sheesh, if it's that easy to go to-and-fro from them, then when will a kage ever get rest :XP: ?)
