At The Edge

Zero Dream
User ImageShe'd managed an hour or so of sleep before she was off again. She did not know where to even start searching, but that did not stop her. She had saddled Aria and went, closely followed by both her aoidei, who even as the mood shifts of their mistress scared them, where not willing to let her go alone.

Words couldn't really explain how glad she was, honestly.

They had gotten quite far away from the pantheon when she had been finally convinced to stop for a bit, putting some distance in between her and her boys. She needed to brood.

She did not go too far - only on the top of a small hill. She stood there, thinking. Still no hint of anything. Still lost. Cosine seemed to finally be gaining some strength, something she should be happy for, yet... it meant she would lose Lien soon. In fact, she couldn't help but wonder if it would be her she would see when she came back home... or the goddess. She shouldn't be hurt and angry, but the circumstances didn't help.

Her anger spiked again, and she did the only thing she knew could help dissipate it - she screamed, loud and clear and painful once more, giving herself no restrain now that she was enough not to bother anyone... or so she thought.

Sosiqui

He was beginning to be able to see the delineation in its effects on the environment - it seemed to him that there was just a little more green inside, just a little less decay.

Just a little, but-

His thoughts were interrupted as he heard a scream, long and sharp, and his ears perked upright in alarm. What was that?! Was someone in danger, below? No, it hadn't come from the city... and it hadn't sounded mortal either. There was power in that cry.

The dragon turned and circled, trying to find the source of the noise, his tail lashing back and forth with worry. True, it wasn't his job to rescue every lost thing in the world, but if there was something in need and he had the ability to aid them, he simply couldn't look away and do nothing!

Zero Dream
User ImageShe let herself tumble on her knees like a ragdoll, panting to recover the breath she still so badly needed. It hadn't helped much, but... it was better than snapping at everyone and everything, especially those who didn't deserve it.

The goddess did not even remotely feel like herself anymore, too caught up in her rage and pain to be. And the realization of that fact only seemed to upset her more, live a vicious spiral.

She saw something move in the sky above her, and she tilted up to look, still panting.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.There- He saw specks on a hillside, not too far away, and angled his flight towards them. Who... wait... is that...

Echo?

That made sense, a terrible kind of sense - of course Music's cries would carry power with them, but if she was screaming, like that...

The dragon sped up and dove downward, his coils cracking against the air like whips. "Echo!" he roared. For a moment he was afraid the figures with her were doing her harm, but then he realized they were her Aoidei and relaxed, just a bit. He skidded to land not too far from them, his claws scraping up long furrows in the dead grass.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe tip of her ears seemed to perk slightly as the roar reached them. What, who...

Purple scales. Oh...

She worked herself on her feet once more, "Tian Yue..." She said, voice low and raw by the abuse it had just taken. He must have been flying nearby and she probably has disturbed his flight - she bit her lip lightly.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Are you all right?" Tian Yue gave her a look filled with deep concern. He could tell from the unexpected hoarseness of her voice that the scream had indeed been hers. "What brings Music to cry such painful notes into the sky?" he asked, quietly, pulling himself up to sit next to her, his tail curled around his feet but the twitches of its tip betraying his agitation.

Zero Dream
User Image"I..." No, she wasn't allright. Yet she wasn't harmed like the dragon probably thought she was. "...am sorry for having bothering you.... I..."

She let herself sit on the dead grass once more, ignoring the sound it made as it was crushed. "....Loss, pain, and confusion. Among many others things."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue's ears went back flat against his neck. "I am sorry to hear it," he said, quietly. "Is there anything I can do to help you? To ease that... loss, that pain, that confusion?" He wanted to know what happened, but that wasn't his first concern. She was.

Zero Dream
User Image"Have..." It was foolish, yes, as far as she knew, the two had probably never met, but... "...Have you seen Nergal when you where flying, anywhere ? He is the Underworld..." Surely that would be enough description, as it seemed most of them where pretty good at sensing power from each other.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Nergal?" Tian Yue tilted his head to one side, somewhat surprised - that hadn't been what he was expecting, at all. "No, I have not seen him for a good month or so... are you looking for him?"

Zero Dream
User ImageAn hopeful look crossed her blue eyes, but was immediately crushed out, and the goddess hugged her knees in clear distress. "...He... vanished a few days ago. Just like that. All we know is that someone used my name and pretended to be me to lure him somewhere. By the time I got there... He was gone" She choked a sob. "He... I am so upset... worried... angry at this... I don't even feel like myself anymore, and all I can do is scream. And search."

From her reactions, it was easy as day to see that Nergal was much more than a friend.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue's eyes narrowed, and his claws dug into the earth. "If anyone would dare do such to a god..." he snarled. "They will get what is coming to them, by my own claws or someone else's."

He paused, took a long breath. "Show me where." The sentence was a command, an order of a Dragon King.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe two aoidei all but tensed in surprise, but Echo did not seem to react much, beside once more working herself to her feet.

"It was the park.. We need to head back at the city for that." She, quite honestly, knew her place, her ranking. She was upset, and so was he now. She let out a sharp whistle, and a dark blue, horse-like creature came. The aoidei, like wise, called their mounts, and the goddess mounted Aria, waiting until the dragon would be ready to take flight.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue nodded once, sharply, and leapt into the sky, pushing his speed to the utmost. Perhaps the steed wouldn't be able to keep up with him; he didn't care. There was a cold anger curled inside his chest, a dragon's anger, feral and dangerous.

Who would have tried to trick Nergal in such a way? And used Echo as a lure? Perhaps if Underworld had just been missing, there wouldn't be such concern - gods did what they wanted, after all, and going off for long periods was part of that - but to use Echo so... no, that stank of foul play.

The Dragon King soared onward, the cracks of his tail against the air clearly audible to anyone who cared to listen.

Zero Dream
User ImageIt became quickly clear that the steeds could not keep up with the dragon, but really, that was quite a lot to ask of the poor beasts. Aria was doing better than the mounts of the two aoidei, so she wouldn't be quite so far behind.

When Tian Yue would finally land, nothing would seem abnormal - beside the remains many candle scattered around the scene, which Echo hadn't had the heart to clean up yet.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue landed with a low snarl, his tail knocking over several of the benches in front of the amphitheater. Immediately he quieted himself and stood still, listening.

Nothing.

He pressed his nose to the ground and inhaled deeply. Yes, yes, yes- there was Underworld's scent, so odd and dry and cold, like corpses and mist, ozone-sharp at the edge. Yet there were other scents here as well, ones he didn't recognized. Spicy, dark and provocative, like the wisps of goddess-scent he caught from Nebula now. And brimstone, and ash of a different kind...

Zero Dream
User ImageThe goddess wasn't too far behind, but she couldn't help but give a bit of a blank stare when she saw him with his nose on the ground, much akin a sniffing dog. But...

It just might work. Cerberus had lost the trail suddenly, but... Maybe Tian Yue had a finer nose ? Really, this was all getting even more overwhelming and odd. She dismounted and walked closer.

"Cerberus seemed to have sniffed his scent going in that direction." She pointed to the left. "He followed it very shortly then... just seemed to lose it..."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue nodded without saying anything, then turned and followed. Sure enough, the scent - no, scents - did indeed go where she'd indicated. Nergal's scent, yes, but also a confusing number of other scents, strange ones, ones he didn't recognize in the least. And all just as fresh as the others.

Whatever these other beings were, they had been here at the same time as Nergal-

The dragon paused, then stepped back a bit. He'd lost the scent. No, there it was. Just two feet back... he paced forward. One step, two, three- gone!

"The scent just cuts off. Right here." Tian Yue scraped a line with one claw. "Past this point, it's just gone - Nergal's scent, and a confusion of many others. Scents I don't recognize. Many of them. They were all here at the same time he was, and then - bam. Nothing." The dragon's hackles rose, his mane puffing out a bit at his shoulders.

Zero Dream
User ImageExactly the same, and exactly at the same spot. But this was more helpful, as the dragon could talk.

"We got pretty much the same thing, Ishum and I, with Cerberus. Exactly here... Many unknown scents, then..." Then she had been right. This was not one of Tien's tricks, as the beastmaster as hoped. Then something hit her. If she had been reborn then it meant...

No, probably not the best time to talk about that, not with both goddess and dragon upset. She let the empty jewel box tumble in her hand, latching her hand tightly on it so she would not drill holes through her palm with her long nails. "I... I figured it might be a portal. For a scent to die off that squarely... It isn't natural." She didn't know much about scents, but she knew that much. Part of her hoped Cerberus had only been distracted, but... Her legs gave once more, and likewise she gave in, and let the tears fall.

"How the hell am I going to find him..."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."A portal..." That sounded right; there weren't many other explanations that could work, after all. The dragon growled, then reared up and scratched at the air with his claws. Found nothing.

He stopped when he heard her start crying, and quickly moved to coil around her, supporting her. "He is a god, Echo... it is not that easy to defeat one of us, and I firmly believe if he was in true danger of his life, my Lord Harmodius would use His power. Why bring the gods to rebirth only to have them fall again? He has invested too much in us to allow such a thing to come to pass..."

Zero Dream
User Image"Y---yes..." She managed in between sobs, letting herself be coiled around soft scales. She wasn't sure what she had somehow expected them to feel like, but that wasn't quite it. "I know that..." The mental image of Destruction, all claws and anger, wrecking harvoc on the bastards who had dared- No, no. Better not go there. "...But I... It feels like someone wrenched half of my heart away from my chest." She buried her face against the scales, hoping the dripping water would not disturb the dragon too much.

There was also many things that could be done, that did not end in death - her mind rather easily thought up horrible scenarios one after the other... "It... it is all too planned. There isn't even a sign of a fight. They... knew exactly what they where against. ...I swear, if I ever get my hands on those bastards..."

There was now something dark in her voice. Dangerous.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of course, of course. Strong wire can be used for so many things." His eyes glittered with a cold fire for a moment.

Zero Dream
User Image"Yes..." The smooth movement of scales at least seemed to calm the goddess slightly, as she had stopped crying. Or had pain been replaced by anger so quickly ? She didn't know. Even Echo herself wasn't aware of her own mood swinging wildly anymore. She remembered, perhaps at an odd time, when Nergal had told her of Kaelin and his mark. Maybe this was how Water felt every day. Alien to even himself.

She didn't move - it felt too good here, too safe for her to distance herself by her own choosing.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."It is not wrong to be angry," Tian Yue said, quietly, after a moment. The emotion ill-suited Music, at least the Echo he knew - but could not song express rage as well as joy, sorrow as well as delight? "He will be found, and he will be found whole, and Destruction's imagination will stretch far beyond my own in plans for retribution for any who dare lay hands. Be assured of that."

As for solace in the meantime? He could... offer nothing. Nothing beyond his own coils. Scratching at the air had yielded no clues, no suggestion of where the portal had gone, and no means of opening it again. The knowledge stung at him in what he assumed was a pale reflection of how Echo was feeling now.

Zero Dream
User Image"I hate feeling like this." She let the side of her face rest against scales once more. "It's not... It's not me. I've... I don't think I've ever quite felt like this before."

The message was clear : she was now calm enough to be scared of just where her rage would lead her. And if Nergal ever learnt of it ? Would he still love her ?

She gave a shiver. "...I am lost."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."This Age has led many to discover sides they never knew." Tian Yue glanced up at the wounded sky. "Perhaps... you are lost, but you are not alone." He turned to look at the Aoidei, then twined himself lightly in a circle around Echo. "Never alone. Not with your Aoidei. Not with me."

Zero Dream
User ImageThat was right... she wasn't alone. Anyone she had told this to had done their best to help her, even if it all seemed hopeless. Perhaps pain had made her turn a blind eyes on that aspect. "...You're right. Of course. ...Thank you."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."And if any of them dare enter my presence, I will end them," Tian Yue said, simply, in a surprisingly matter-of-fact tone. "Do call me when retribution is at hand so I can sink fangs into one of them, will you?" His smile was quite deliberately sharp.

Zero Dream
User ImageThat smile would have probably have made anyone jump right out of their skin, but.. not her. Not the in mindset she was in now. She could probably stare straight in the face of death himself (or what it herself ?) without even flinching. "I will."

She pondered for a moment. She still needed to find Ankou and tell him. She knew little about the god, but it was easy enough to guess he would not be happy in the least. "Could you do me a favor, in the meanwhile ? If you see a redhead at the pantheon... Can you tell him to come see me ? His name is Adrian, and he hosts the spirit guide. Nergal's brother. I do not look forward to breaking the news but he needs to know." Since this seemed to be a world-hopping experience, Ankou might be able to help.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."His brother, hm? Interesting." Tian Yue couldn't imagine their relationship was anything like the one he shared with Zhijian, but still. "If I see such a host, I will certainly tell him to seek you out. And if I sense Nergal anywhere within my sphere of power, I will fly to him first and send Toki to you."

Zero Dream
User ImageShe gave a slow nod. The whole idea of him having a brother was somewhat alien to even her - and she had no idea how the two would actually behave when in the same room.

"Thank you." She whispered.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Is there anything else I can do for you? Now?" Tian Yue raised his head to peer at where the portal must have opened, his ears flicked back a bit.

Zero Dream
User Image"I... Should go home. Try to rest." And try to pretend she did not hear the emptyness in the other side of the house. "I.... have not slept much." The bothersome side-effects of a still-mortal body. Maybe it was partway helping all the mood swings. It hadn't really occurred to her.

"I need to calm down, and see what I should do about this. I cannot stand by idly and wait. I've done enough of that, and I am directly involved in this."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of course," Tian Yue said, trying to sound as soothing as possible. "Rest can heal many things. It can make you feel less broken and more... more angry. Take strength from that anger, not weakness. Use it as your tool." He lightly nuzzled at her tears, then snorted gently.

"May I fly you home?"

Zero Dream
User Image"If... If that is not of any bother to you ?" To be truthful, she was quite glad he asked - her eyes stung and she could not quite trust herself to ride Aria at the moment. The boys could bring the errais back, easily, like the little sweetheart she was.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of course not. Here, now..." Tian Yue shifted, pulled away from her out of the odd dragon's embrace and into a position much easier for flight, much easier for her to mount.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe goddess wobbled a bit - apparently he had also pretty much been supporting her as well - but once she recovered her footing, she settled herself on his back, lightly gripping his mane for hold. Rest did not sound like a bad idea at all...

-- "My Goddess" - The Exies

Dance Everything Away

The more time passed, the more a simple outcome to this seemed impossible. Especially with the rather… horrible rumors Ishum had heard of. Her mind simply refused to wrap around that concept fully, a part of her too angry, and the other too horrified.

A god’s blood indeed. All she could hope was that it was a mortal’s silly invention and not, well…. Exactly what she was, in fact, fearing. Some part of her still thought said mortal needed to be pummeled if that was someone’s idea of a sick joke.

She kept on searching, still not straying far, still daring to hope she would find a clue, the one little bit everyone had missed that would at least narrow the possibilities down. Something. Anything. Having to comb trough endless worlds one by one would probably take months, no, years, and if there was a dangerous situation involved she might not even have that long. How odd, for a goddess, to have to take time in consideration. Time was not something she had truly bothered herself with before – something abstract, a bit distant, something that she did not have to bother with, of course. If there hadn’t been a need to, because of her concerts, to keep track of months and hours and minutes she most likely would not have bothered. Only now, she found herself counting the days without truly meaning to.

Searching kept her busy, of course, and probably kept her from brooding even more than she already was. It was much more common to see a small, thoughtful frown on her face instead of the usual charming smiles, at the matter at hand kept on eating at her. Searching was nice and good, but what would she do once she’d found what she was looking for ? Now that was a whole new beast. One that she was more than happy to ignore for the time being.

She had taken to watching Tempo train lately. She’d refused to let him know why, a fact which was rather worrying for the poor aoidei, but yet she had not done anything else but watch. It was oddly soothing, actually, to do nothing but watch him move, and kind of interesting to see just how agile her bodyguard actually was. It wasn’t something she usually did – she was most often than not writing, or otherwise busy in some sort of fashion or another. Which was a bit of a shame, since this was quite interesting. Not really the fact that he was training, or to think this was to be potentially to be used against some other being, but simply the way he moved – it almost seemed like he was dancing.

…Something inside her memory, her old, broken down memory of the life before now, stirred but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but it left behind an odd urge, a want she could not quite identify, but that she could not ignore either. It caught her off-guard for a moment.

Tempo had, after he had awakened once more, sought out many weapons, kinds he had once mastered and now sought to become familiar with once more. The aoidei clearly preferred small blades, easy to conceal and maneuver. She could see his small 'collection' in the open now, from katars to daggers to all sort of blades she did not know the name of, some bulkier than others, some more ornate than others. She couldn’t help herself, and slid by closer to where they where spread out for easy access. Two in particular, twin blades, had caught her eye in particular, they where quite lovely to look at, and they head a certain beauty in despite being weapons. Simple and elegant. One finger traced the circular shapes of the metal, and the goddess was quite glad that Tempo was not watching her, else he would probably freak out and fear she would cut herself. As if… Really, sometimes having to much protection was almost like being choked.

Her hands traveled down, curling around the handles, weighting them experimentally. They where light – probably fast and quick to strike, but she didn’t care about that. That wasn’t what she was looking for. But light was good, her mind told her.

It also told her to move, and so, she did. She slid away from the worn-down table, both blades still in hand, her arms moving experientially, sliding along with the two blades with a precision one wouldn’t expect. Her legs followed next – a push, a twirl, move the arms in an arch.

The dance had begun, and so she continued, to the rhythm of a song that only existed inside her own mind, away from the present, away from having to think about anything, away from worry, away from everything. She did not ask herself any more question, did not ask herself just how she knew how to move that way – she simply did and that was enough.

It took a few minutes before her arms started to ache from the unfamiliar movements and she was trust back into reality – when she opened her eyes again, Tempo was staring at her, and she couldn’t help the slight blush that formed, or the pout that followed. ”What ?”

The poor aoidei almost jolted, then shook his head. “My lady ! I apologize, I did not mean to stare, but… I have not seen you dance in ages. So long, now… That is quite a gift you have given my eyes.”

The goddess sent him a confused glance, a dark eyebrow rising as she looked down at one of the blades she was still holding. ”So you mean… I used to do this ?”

“Often.” He spoke softly, walking the few steps that separated them after he was done wiping the sweat off his arms. “You often said it was quite calming. You mean you don’t…”

”…It does not really matter if I remember or not, don’t I ? The past is gone and it isn’t going to come back no matter how hard we wish it could.” She gently let the blades down on the table once more, and watched as he put them away with the rest.

”…But, I figure I was right. That was quite calming.”

Running In Circles

How long had it been ? Two weeks ? Three ? She honestly couldn't tell anymore. The days had became a blur, and she hadn't really been sleeping much. It was quite the opposite - a few scant hours scattered among days. This would not really have been much of an issue if the still-mortal part of her own self wasn't reacting accordingly. The body was tired, but her mind was alert.

All too alert, she'd found, as her vivid imagination, usually so useful to weave melodies and create song, was now busy imagining the worse scenarios. It had been too long, WAY too long, for her not to think the worst. It wasn't getting easier - in fact, it was getting more and more hellish to deal with his absence of a daily basis.

If only he had left on another journey, it wouldn't have been as hard... Wouldn't have been so horrible. She would have missed him, longed for his presence, yes, but this... This was horrible. Maddening. There was really no way to explain the way she felt, since she barely understood it herself. A whirlwind of negative emotions that simply refused to stop. Add fatigue, and it made it quite hard for the goddess to focus. It was only will that kept her going, it seemed. She would get to the bottom of this. She would find him, no matter how long it took. No matter what it took. She had been wronged.... and this would not go unpunished, no.

She, still, had to tie some loose ends. She had sent Concerto with a note to Illumin, informing him of the current matter and of why she hadn't come to do what she had promised yet. She hadn't had the strength to go there herself. The light god would probably be upset, after all it seemed time was counted, as things seemed to degrade further and further... this was only the tip of a much bigger iceberg that seemed to be looming over All That Was.

Echo wasn't quite sure how long it had been since she'd flopped on the couch and started to stare at the ceiling, almost blankly, doing nothing but thinking. The goddess was doing that often lately, in fact, she was probably doing it too much. Whenever she couldn't be out and about to search, in fact. She'd loosely registered Lyric to her right, but she didn't try to talk to him. She didn't feel like it. It was all too easy to shut off the outside world and isolate herself, which... only made things worse. And yet she did it, knowing full well this wasn't helping. Why exactly ? She wasn't so sure. Some part of her was aware of how self-destructive she seemed to be lately, but the rest did not care. Could not bring itself to care. Nothing felt right anymore. She hadn't even tried to write or play anything in the last few weeks - all she did was search... search and eventually collapse when the mortal body was pushed to it's limit.

There had to be a lead, somewhere. Something she was missing... Something that would at least narrow down their search. But until she found that... all she could do is search.

There was still anger, simmering deep within. There was still determination, else she would not have been able to keep on going. Yet, it seemed like depression had finally set in, and the gray skies and ash-covered ground did not do much to help her mood any. If she looked hard, before, she could still find some beauty in desolation, but no longer, not anymore.

This wasn't right, wasn't right at all, for him to be taken like this... For him to be taken so easily. He had fought before, she knew this, and had tended to those wounds herself, but there wasn't even one sign of a struggle at the park. It was hard to imagine what could have truly have happened there. Beyond herself being used to lure him there... The was nothing, and it was frustrating.

And for now, all she could do was give in to her dark thoughts - they where too overwhelming for her to ignore.

Solace Song

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was easy to retrace his flight back to Echo's house. Tian Yue landed and quickly moved out of sight of the windows before shifting to human form; after all, most people's houses weren't set up for the convenience of dragons. He changed quickly into the robe he'd brought, then took a moment to make himself presentable - and to think.

Nergal's vanishing - no, kidnapping, godnapping - was unacceptable, no question about that, but Zhijian needed his aid... yet so did Echo... and he knew which way he would have to go, even if it hurt to have to choose. Their Lord's orders outranked All. Period.

So it wasn't really a choice...

Tian Yue sighed, slipped his feet into the shoes he'd brought, then padded over to knock on Echo's door. If only there was something he could do. It didn't seem right to be a god and yet be so helpless.

Doubtless those still entombed in jewels thought that, if they were capable of such, every day.

Zero Dream
Things had not been going well. Ishum and the lady had been searching almost never-endingly, following each and every lead they found, one by one. Some seemed to hold some true merit, where worth deeper analysis, but they never seemed to lead them far enough to call it progress.

It was depressing, so see her like this. Depressing and horrible, and most of all he felt completely useless. The mute aoidei didn't seem to be able to do much beside stand at her side. Tempo could at least fight... and Concerto was keeping watch at the pantheon while tending to Love and his daughter. Really, it seemed like there wasn't much he could do.

He perked up as a knock sounded on the door. The goddess was busy... and Tempo had gone with Ishum, this time. He shook his head as if to work himself out of his depressed daze and went to open it. He gave a bow to Tian Yue and gestured him to come inside - after all, he doubted the other knew sign language.

Really, being mute was so bothersome.

Sosiqui

Zero Dream
The blue aoide nodded, and, after motioning the dragon king to follow him once more, turned and headed deeper into the house, to the second story. He stopped right in front of what looked like a living room of sort and peeked in, knocking on the wall lightly to announce his presence.

"What it is ?" The voice that answered the sound was Echo's, definitively, but it seemed that something... was missing. The pale form looked up from her perch on the windowledge to see what her confident was signing her. Tian Yue... She was in no fitting mood to receive him, even less in the physical state to do so. She was clothed simply, still covered in dust - probably only recently arrived home, but what was so startling was that she looked so tired. There was no smile on her face, no light in her eyes. She slid off her seat and brushed some of the dust away as she moved to greet him, not as elegantly as she usually did. "It is a pleasure to see you today... Would you like something to drink ?" It sounded genuine, and it was, but there was no joy in her voice.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Echo..." Oh, she looked terrible. And here he was, coming to tell her that he would probably be leaving before too much longer... "I'm sorry if I interrupted anything. I take it... that there has been no news?" he asked, as gently as he could. She looked as though a stray breeze could break her to bits.

User Image"You did not." She reassured him. "There are rumors, some which could seem genuine enough, but... they don't seem to lead us too far. They're protecting their tracks, it seems." The goddess let out a low sigh. Everything so far had been in vain...

No wonder dark thoughts came all too easily. But at least... at least she wasn't quite alone in all this.

User Image"Of course they are." The was a youth there, with hairs as red as a flame, who had remained silent until now. From his position leaning against the wall, he had been easy enough to overlook. "They are probably well aware enough that if they can be tracked down, they will have quite the welcome comity to go kung-fo gun ho on their happy asses." He muttered, flicking one long bang away from his face.

Adrian ! Would you please watch your language ? You are in presence of a dragon king !

A what now ? He looked puzzled for a moment, but smoothed out his face quickly.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of cou-" Tian Yue stopped, surprised, as another voice, an unfamiliar one, mirrored his words and continued to speak. He hadn't noticed the red-haired young man when he entered, so focused had he been on the distraught goddess. "And who is this, Echo? Another companion of yours?" Now that he focused his attention on the newcomer, he could feel power there... no, two kinds of power. Strange, and a little confusing, difficult to isolate.

Zero Dream
User Image"This is Adrian, host to the Spirit Guide. He... has been very helpful to me lately." The fire mage's sometimes playful antics had been some of the few things that had managed to make her smile, laugh, or otherwise keep her from sinking completely in the last few days.

User ImageDragon kings would be... over-gods, if you will, to put it simply. Second only to Harmodius.

Ahh. Well that explained both Echo's and Ankou's attitude. But that meant more formalities. Oh bahhh. After further proddings, he gave a bow. "It is an honor to meet you, Lord Tian Yue."

The two kinds of powers seemed to mingle a bit, but it quickly became evident that one was divinity, and the other fire, in lack of a better way to put it. Wild and untamed, beyond what one could expect a simple mage to have control of.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Ah. Nergal's brother." Tian Yue nodded gravely to the host. "Echo mentioned you. I am glad you have found each other. It's too bad we couldn't meet in better times, with better news."

He glanced back at Echo, then took a few steps over towards her. "I am glad to find you with someone else here to support you if you need it. I came to tell you that I will most likely be traveling in the near future. Orders from our Lord must outrank everything else, I am afraid... not that I was very helpful in the first place." He shook his head, sharply. That was still frustrating. It seemed wrong somehow that a god could find out little more than a common creature.

Zero Dream
User Image"Do not say that..." The goddess also moved closer, and shook her head. "You where there when I desperately needed someone, and that is more than enough..." She had hoped to be able to call for him in the future, but that was not to be. Another hurt among many, so much that she barely even noticed it. Still, he had a point, and she was not mad.

"Where will you be going, then ?" Some of the goddess' curiosity apparently returned, as she tilted her head a bit.

User ImageWell ?

...You should talk for me. Please.

It was rather easy to see that Ankou was NOT in the mood to deal with people, and he probably didn't wish to upset the dragon.

"Yeah... I wish there was something I could do about this..." After all, if deities couldn't find a trace, how could he ?

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."To the remains of the ancient Pantheon, with my brother the Fangbridle, in search of his tack. He must be prepared for our Lord's riding." Where Destruction might wish to ride, and to what end, was largely immaterial at this point. "I hope it won't take too long."

He nodded at Adrian. "You can do exactly what you are now... and here's a nice thought for both of you. Whoever has taken Underworld, they cannot hold a god forever, and the instant they die... the situation will be quite reversed, and on a far more permanent basis." There was absolutely nothing nice in the Dragon's smile.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe old pantheon... It still stood ? No, wait, Tian Yue had said remains. And yet, try as she might... Her memories did not stirr. She remembered nothing of the ancient city of the gods, of what must have been her home.

"I hope you will find what you are both looking for." The goddess nodded, her expression somewhat puzzled and probably betraying her thoughts.

"I... do not remember anything. How it looked like. This is upsetting..." She whispered.

User ImageAnd that is if I don't get to them first... Ankou added silently. Likewise, the god's tone of voice promised nothing good.

"I doubt they'll live long after we find them." Adrian added with a nod. "I will burn them to ashes myself, if I have to. It may not be my business yet... it a sense, it kind of is." It was, after all, impossible to ignore, with how close host and god where becoming lately, with how easy it was for one to catch the feelings of the others. He couldn't help but think he didn't have long left. Perhaps he was wrong, or maybe he wasn't, but right now, it didn't matter.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Don't feel bad about it," Tian Yue told Echo firmly. "The realm where the ancient Pantheon once stood has entirely collapsed into the mortal worlds, it seems. It no longer exists in anything like its former glory. We are relying on Toki to help us find it." He offered the goddess a bemused smile. "See how desperate we are?" he joked.

Then he glanced over at Adrian. "Of course it's your business. Really, this sort of thing should be everyone's business. If such a thing could happen to one of us, it could happen to all... though I imagine Lord Harmodius would have something to say about that." The Dragon King was vaguely troubled by his Lord's seeming inaction. But perhaps there wasn't really much danger, or perhaps this was important. There was so much they didn't know.

Zero Dream
User ImageSomehow, this managed to get Echo to crack a smile, if only for a moment. "Wholly desperate indeed, dear dragon. I fear I will not be much help either." The goddess shook her head.

"Perhaps we shall rebuild it, one day." She'd found she did not mind so much living among mortals, but perhaps, sometimes... some place which could only be accessed easily by others of her kind was a good thing. It was all too easy for mortals to stumble onto the new pantheon, but then... That was probably part of the idea.

The mention of the twin crown made her sigh in turn. "There must be a reason... Surely if there where dangers too big, he would intervene..." She could only hope. She didn't know. Had never seen Destruction in this life. Her fragmented memories refused to tell her anything that might be of use.

User ImageAdrian had shifted to lean against the wall, yellow eyes closing. He was doing his best for Echo, not only because it was what Ankou wanted, but because the goddess honestly did not deserve all this bullshit. He had to make her hold on, until Underworld could be found.

"He would." His voice was level, with no hesitation. Status aside, Tian Yue was pretty easy to talk to... a bit like the goddess herself, actually. Maybe it was why they got along so well.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue hesitated. "Have you... asked Him? Lord Harmodius, I mean. Even though I am quite certain he would act if Nergal was in danger of his life, perhaps... he might know something? Unless it is something we are not to know. Sometimes one does need to... to handle things on one's own." His tail swayed awkwardly from side to side. Perhaps they were all overreacting, but what if, what if...

But he had to admit that Destruction was not the most approachable of deities. He shook his head. "Now I'm just repeating myself," he said, with a sigh.

Zero Dream
User Image"I..."

The goddess hesitated, for a moment. She hadn't even let herself think about this. Hadn't allowed herself to think about it, about how it could potentially help. That might have just been the answer, but it... seemed too easy. And too unlikely.

And would that not be too amusing, the little broken child of Creation begging for help ?

"I havn't." She shook her head, as if it would make the thoughts go away.

User ImageAdrian hadn't moved from his spot, but the fire mage was now watching the goddess with apparent curiosity. Something about Destruction seemed to bother her, but what ? Well, yes, he'd about scared him shitless - the redhead just presumed that it was what the elder god just did, but... she was a goddess, herself. What was bothering her so ?

"If there's no lead soon, I... guess I could try it."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. That's right... Echo has known Creation. That was not something that Tian Yue had seen, not this incarnation of Tien Lung, though of course there were memories of alabaster skin and delicate, chiming wings.

He nodded at Adrian, then turned back to Music and shook his head. "I wish I could bring you something besides platitudes and ideas you've already thought of. Some solution, some news, some novel idea that would change everything. Such things seem to be in short supply, these days."

Zero Dream
User Image"It is allright... You must focus on what you need to accomplish right now. We all fight our own battles, no matter the form they take, they are there, somewhere."

A few months ago, it wouldn't have occurred to her to think like this. But now, this seemed true, no matter where she was looking.

"I will find him." Her voice held no doubt nor hesitation. "....But it would be nice to know where to start."

Echo wasn't used to this. She was used to have it easy, if she dared think that way. Perhaps this was why she had always remained there, doing what seemed to be so little in the face of a much bigger problem.

No more.

User Image"Yeah, they know what the hell they're doing." This got him a prod from Ankou not to blaspheme in front of gods (and that technically hell wasn't as he'd been taught anyway) but he ignored it. If the god focused to prodding him, then he just might stop focusing on brooding. "We went there and we didn't find anything either. Not that we expected to..." He shrugged. "We're hoping the crows will overhear something."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Then you and your master have one up on me. I wish your birds luck in their listening," Tian Yue told Adrian, wryly. That must be convenient.

"Echo..." He turned back to her, then reached out one hand to gingerly squeeze one shoulder. "You will. And if I can, I will throw all my resources into that search - if it is still needed - when I return. Unless my Lord has further use for me..."

Zero Dream
User Image"You need not to worry." She leaned against him, drawn in by the feel of the hand on her shoulder, smooth even as it belonged to a dragon. The touch of a friend, the comfort of a friend. A little thing, such little things, yet how badly needed at this point of time...

"You need to focus on what you need to do. We shall do the same... and hopefully there will be no need for you to focus on this upon your return." Heavens only knew if she would hold out like this for that long. What the dragon spoke of did not seem like a short journey.

User Image"Yeah, we'll find him. They'll all be right there when you come back." The pyromancer did not include himself in that statement - there was no bitterness in his voice, but there was some faint, lingering sadness.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I sincerely hope so." He nodded at Adrian, soberly, acknowledging what the host meant underneath the words he spoke. He seemed like a good man, someone the dragon could trust to do well by his friend while he left. "If Toki does not attend us, one of your Aoidei could perhaps send news to him, Echo?"

Zero Dream
User Image"That would be a great idea." The goddess nodded. "And they could leave a message, if Toki goes along with you." The news would make their way, somehow. "Would either of you like something to drink ?"

She did not feel like the best hostess for now, that was for sure - it should have occurred to her a bit ago...

User ImageThere she went again. She needed so badly to find something to distract herself... "...Some coffee would be nice... But only if Lord Tian Yue wants something too... ?"

Really, he would have taken it upon himself to do it, but it was painfully apparent that the goddess needed something to take her mind off things.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue smiled. "Of course. Far be it from me to ignore your hospitality! Though I should return to the Pantheon before too long. I have Toki hard at work researching, and the instant he finds something... my brother and I should be off on that trail."

Zero Dream
User ImageShe nodded in answer. "Tea, then ? And coffee for the odd one." She said with the slightest smirk as she headed for the kitchen.

User ImageThe pyromancer did not move from his leaning against the wall, but childishly stuck out his tongue. "Not odd !"

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Either is fine with me," Tian Yue said, smiling to himself. He remembered Crispin and Shaiming's wars over warm beverages quite well, though the memories were at one remove, and confusing if he thought of them together - for, in a way, he had experienced both of them. At the same time.

Confusing indeed.

Zero Dream
User ImageIt did not take long before the goddess returned with a tray full of goodies, and set it on the nearby table for her guests to enjoy.

"There. You two should sit down, you know - I doubt it's that much of a hurry, no ?" Expecially with Toki being rather... scatterbrained... at times.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I think I can spare a moment," Tian Yue said, with a smile. Something in him was antsing to get moving, but he could tell that Echo needed this - a chance to breathe, a moment of distraction.

For now, that was more important. But what to talk about? The only thing he could think of was the journey, or the spectre of Nergal looming both vast and absent in his mind. The journey, then. "Do either of you recall much of the ancient Pantheon? Ankou, perhaps?" Now that Echo seemed a little bit more stable, he felt he could free some attention for the silent god within the redhead.

Zero Dream
User Image"nothing is really coming back to me..." The goddess shook her head slightly. "There is a feeling of familiarity... I definitively know what you are talking about, but I cannot seem to recall anything... definite. Or useful." She gave a small sigh.

User ImageThe redhead perked a bit, sight leaving the cup of coffee to look over at the dragon. There was a split second pose for some mental communication before there finally was an answer.

"The city of the gods..." The voice was a bit raw, unused - and clearly not belonging to the host. "I do not think I have lived there, but I remember loosely.... gates. There where many entrances, many ways from outside to inside. I do not know how many, or even how many still stand, and if they would still work.... But.." How... odd, that this would be the first thing to come to his mind. "...So perhaps if the first you find is no longer working... Then there may be others."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue nodded, slowly. "There is a Gate in the world we're searching for. Even I can barely remember, and I wrapped my coils around that place for how long?" He snorted, self-depreciating. "I remember the canals. The temples. The Tree. Streets and gods, godlings and Aoidei, over and over, world without end..."

He shook his head, clearing the reverie. "Until it did."

Zero Dream
User Image"We all seem to have some massive memory problems, it does seem." There was a bare hint of amusement in the voice, but it was extremely faint. "But then, that is what entropy does to the soul. It erodes, until nothing, mind and memories and personality, is left. We are all quite lucky, when we look at the big picture, to retain even fragments. I imagine.... that there may be some beyond rebirth, even among ourselves."

Adrian really almost couldn't believe this. The god was socializing, going beyond answering the question asked, and he hadn't even needed to prod. There was a faint annoyed streak from the god which proved he had clearly felt those thoughts, and the redhead couldn't help but giggle inwardly.

"But then..." All amusement had faded from his voice by the time he finally spoke. "What about those who arn't... ?"

The body's expression shifted, lips into a tight line. "...I can only hope the end beyond the end was not painful."

User ImageThe goddess listened, in despite not liking what she was hearing. Of course it was believable that not all of them would make it... But she did not like to think about it. How many of those would be friends, lost not only in memory but in complete truth ? What about the holes in her memories, would these ever be truly filled again ?

How much was simply hidden, waiting for the right time to manifest - how much was truly lost forever, eroded by nothingness as the spirit guide spoke ?

She did not know, and perhaps it was better that way. The past was the past, and it was better to focus on the future. She knew that, and yet...

Yet she couldn't stop wondering. And clinging to it.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."This is true, no doubt," Tian Yue said soberly, taking a sip of his coffee before returning his attention to Ankou. "I fear that Futs Lung-" He cut himself off, then shook his head. "But surely the Dragon Kings, if any, would survive and grow strong. We cannot lose any of my brothers." His grip on the coffee mug tightened.

Zero Dream
User Image"Surely. The mana is stronger in the dragons, so ill'd expect..." The god trailed off. "Has something happened to him ?" Surely there would not be a worry unless something had.

User ImageLikewise, there was a worried look on the goddess' face, and, wordlessly, she slid one hand on his shoulders to show her own support. "He will be fine, no matter what... I am sure of it."

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."The host was not strong enough; the gem recovered from mortal dust. Last I heard." Tian Yue sighed. "But surely Lord Harmodius will do his utmost, Destruction or no."

He gave the pair a wan smile. "So much for bringing cheery news, but when the Fangbridle and I have returned - we will find better. Or, failing that, make better." He took another long sip of the coffee.

Zero Dream
User Image"Oh... Im sorry." Echo whispered. That was horrible... "Yes... I am sure all will be fine, still. If there is enough of his mana left, something will be done." Destruction or not, she doubted He would let any of them down... Even less one of His dragons.

User ImageHoly... That can happen ?

Undoubtedly. Individuals able to rebirth a dragon must be few and far in between.

But...

There's no need to worry. He tried to sound as comforting as possible, but probably was not very convincing. I will not let your sacrifice be in vain. If it somehow happen, then I better not get yet a third chance.

All the span of a second. There was worry on the boy's face, which did not quite match the voice that came out of his mouth. "That is indeed unfortunate... I wish him well. I have no doubt that some of his mana survived where the host did not."

It just seemed like a waste - a useless death without a result. An individual who was completely, mind, body and soul, destroyed for what came out to be nothing at all.

The thought caught Ankou off-guard - he had no idea why he felt so strongly toward this, but he masked it from his host well.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue smiled knowingly at the red-haired host. "I was afraid of the same thing," he said, quietly. "When my name was Crispin and the Dragon merely a voice in our mind. But it did not happen."

He looked over to Echo. "We can only hope - but there is much of that. It survives quite well even in this day and age, if only someone will give it an opening."

Zero Dream
User Image"That is true... Well, if I hear anything about him, I will have news delivered to Toki ?" This might be hard, as she was doing quite a good job at completely ignoring the pantheon and either being walled like an hermit, or being gods-knew-where searching for a clue, any clue... But maybe. She would keep her ears open.

User ImageAdrian had what seemed to be the most priceless face for a moment while he processed that one.

...I can't tell if he's lucky or not lucky, really.

And Ankou couldn't help but be a bit fascinated by this revelation. That would have been an interesting thing to see for himself, but alas.

"He has nothing to fear. I've disturbed quite enough to have it all end as such." There was an undertone of something in the deity's voice... sadness ? Guilt ? It wasn't very easy to identify, and it left as quickly as it came.

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tian Yue nodded to Adrian/Ankou. "No doubt of that. I am certain now that any amicable bonding cannot possibly end in that way." He grinned, then drained the last bit of coffee from the mug before turning his attention to Echo.

"That would be excellent, if you can spare a messenger. I believe Toki will remain behind, unless we absolutely must have him, but - er, he doesn't know that. Yet." The Dragon King looked faintly, comically guilty for a moment.

Zero Dream
User ImageFirst Adrian, and now Tian Yue. It was hard to keep on sulking with those kind of expressions, so the goddess couldn't help but give an amused smile. "I can spare the messenger, I am pretty sure. Concerto is at the pantheon quite often, tending to Rio and his daughter. That will not be any trouble."

User ImageAmicable... That would not have been the first word to pop in the god's mind, but perhaps it was indeed so. He did manage quite well, no, they did manage quite well to not constantly be at each other's throat in despite of how messy this all started.

"It's only amicable when he's not being dumb." Adrian chirped, more than sick of the awkward atmosphere and more than ready to do something about it. Looking like quite the smartass indeed (hopefully proving he was not quite serious), he went to finish his own cup.

Ankou grumbled a bit, but soon radiated smugness. You seem to be quite skilled at that - do you have prior experience with your own mental speech, dear ?

That, coming from Ankou, along with the god's tone of voice, came completely out of the left field, which was the main reason for the redhead choking on his drink, not the god's lack of being remotely skilled at humor. "Augh ! Deloyal tactics !"

Sosiqui
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A smile quirked on Tian Yue's lips, the Dragon King pleased both at Echo's improved mood and at the interplay between Adrian and Ankou -something he remembered fondly, if a bit strangely. The double-sided memories from that time when Crispin and Shaiming had been together but separate were an odd bunch indeed.

"Be that as it may... I should be going," he said, and was surprised to find himself regretting that fact. "Any moment the page with the answer could be turned."

Zero Dream
User ImageHe probably should have gotten going, too, before Lyra and Jinx started to wonder where he went, since what was supposed to be a simple dropby to make sure the goddess was okay had evolved into a longer stay, but he was not ready to leave the goddess alone just yet. He knew too well that her somber mood would be quick to return once she would be left alone with her thoughts.

User Image"Of course... I have held you way too long already. Hopefully the answer will be found soon, and then you can get going..." Echo worked herself back on her feet to lead him outside. "I wish you the best of luck, my friend."

House Call

midnight_medea
"Maaam come oooon." Grace shouted, stopping on the ash covered path and turning back. She shifted her new doll to her other arm and rested her free hand on her hip. "You're taking ages, can't you carry him?"

Jessica looked up and smirked, her hand firmly in Caleb's as he toddled along as fast as his little legs could carry him.
"Shi." he grinned, reaching his free hand out to his big sister.

"No, you're too slow." She replied, turning and continuing to walk off down the path that led to Echo's house. She couldn't wait to see the goddess again. They had had so much fun last time and she wanted to introduce her mother to her.

Jess rolled her eyes at her daughters antics and smiled down at her son who did not seem to be bothered by the rejection.

Hugging her doll tightly Grace bounced up to the house ahead of her mother and brother and brushed some of the ash off of her blue sun dress. She really hoped that Echo would be home. Maybe Nergal would be home too and they could play a game, or the man with golden wings. She still wanted to make some of her own.

Smiling and feeling rather grown up she reached out to knock hard on the door.

Zero Dream
User ImageAs things stood for a moment, if the goddess wasn't out looking for clues, she was walled in her home being an hermit. Luckily for the small family, Echo was in fact home at the moment, and had beaten her aoidei to getting the door.

When she saw the small girl, some of the light returned in her eyes. Really, it would do her no good to show her pain in front of the children. She had been good at it the last time, and hopefully she would be again.

"Well, hello there, Gracie." She said with a warm smile. She had taken to calling her that - it was cute and the child had not seemed to mind. She could see Caleb and a woman in the distance, which quieted her fears that the young girl might have come alone. "You must have smelled the cookies Alto is baking, hmmm ?" She teased a bit.

midnight_medea
Grace grinned as Echo opened the door and looked up to her. She always looked so pretty.
"Cookies?" She asked, peering past her and breathing deeply through her nose. "Mmm, they smell good." She didn't get to eat cookies at home, her mother was a really bad cook.

"I brought my mam to see you."

Jess watched as the door opened and smiled at the young goddess. She felt rather under-dressed in her overalls that were tied at the waist to reveal a faded green sleeveless top. Echo's clothes were so pretty.
"Hello." She smiled, releasing Cay as he went running after his sister and running her fingers through her hair.
"I hope this isn't a bad time?"

Zero Dream
User ImageEcho wasn't really as extravagant or pretty as she usually was - but there was still some ethereal elegance that lingered about her. She moved a part of her white dress aside to kneel and ruffle Grace's hairs. "Really ? I am quite honored, dear. I was hoping you would."

She stood once more. "It is fine, really." Lately where weren't much good times, so she would have to make some. "Please, come inside, I fear it looks like it's going to rain." Her blue eyes lingered upward, where some angry-looking dark clouds where starting to roll in. It didn't take much more than the blink of an eye for storms to start, these days.... It had been so for quite a long time.

midnight_medea
Jess smiled as the goddess greeted them and followed her and the children inside the nice house.
"Oh, sorry. I'm Jessica." She had heard so much about Echo that it was easy to forget that they had never met properly. "And thank you for watching these monsters with Lien the other week. I quite enjoyed my 'day off'."

Grace took Caleb's hand and led him inside after Echo. She liked this house, it actually had furniture in it just like their old one.
"I brought my doll to show you." She said, holding it up for Echo to look. "And this." She reached into her pocket and pulled out the ghost feather. To Echo it would look as though she held nothing in her hand. "It's for pro ... pro ... to stop bad ghosts."

Zero Dream
User Image"I was quite happy... It was a lovely change of pace. Let me know if you need me to watch over then again ?" She smiled, and while it was genuine, it was evident that there was something on her mind, something that bothered her and kept on tugging at her.

"That's a very lovely doll, Gracie." She lead mother and children inside. The home was in much better shape than anyone might have expected it to by looking at the outside. Even if it was the least affected house of the block, there where still cracks and weak points showing, for neither the two deities who lived there, even when they where together, could completely stop the decay. She rose her eyebrow ever-so-slightly when she pulled out the feather. She couldn't see a thing... But then, after some thought, she realized what it was all about - and her heart sank a little bit. "And you are quite lucky to have this feather... Did Nergal give it to you ?"

midnight_medea
Jess watched the young woman, or god and smiled as she offered to watch them again. She could see there was something there. Behind the plesantries. Though it was hard to tell, in times like these everyone seemed to carry a lingering sorrow.

Grace grinned and nodded, bouncing on the spot a little.
"Yeah. It's from his wing. Is he home? He said I could go and play. Bored games. But ... I don't know why he wants to play boring games." She shrugged a little and slipped the feather back into her pocket.

Caleb clung to his mother's leg and watched his sister and the pretty lady. Echo. He remembered her songs and smiled broadly.
"Ko, song please." He said softly, holding his hand out to her and wiggling his fingers.

Jess blinked and looked down at him. That was the most he'd ever said aside from Mam, Shi, Cat or No. Always one word. She had been begining to worry about him.

Zero Dream
User ImageHer expression changed, ever-so-slightly, but then smoothed out again. "He... isn't home, dear. Maybe he will come back soon ? Ill let you know, alright ? I always hear him coming from a mile away. That's what my big ears are for." Said ears gave a small wriggle at the tips, as if right on cue.

But oh, the things she would do to hear the familiar footsteps right now...

Before she could continue in that train of thought some more, a tiny little voice disrupted them. It made her smile a bit, as she tossed her hair a bit. Her voice took a whole new depth, some ethereal and unexplainable depth once she opened her mouth again.

"When I was young, they once told me :
Oh, dear, did you there there was a world beyond the clouds ?
But they told me - you can only see it if you believe~

midnight_medea
Grace's smile fell a little as Echo said he was not home, but it was okay. She thought to herself. She could see him next time and they could play games.

When Echo started to sing she smiled and her small hand sought her mother's. She loved Echo's voice and her songs, they seemed to make everything better.

Caleb grinned as his demand was obliged and clapped his hands happily. His mam was no way near as good at singing. He moved towards her and reached out to the goddess, it was clear he wanted her to hold him.

Jess watched the effect the goddess had on both her children and smiled. Though, she could not help but wonder what was troubling her. She knew the sorrow that hidbehind her eyes all too well.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe goddess looked down to Caleb, then to his mother. She did not seem to look like she would mind, so she lifted him in her arms. It seemed that, at least, the presence of the children seemed to soothe her a bit.

"Hmmm, I think this would be time to go bother Alto, isn't it ? Those cookies must be out of the oven by now." She winked.

midnight_medea
"Coookies." Grace sang, tugging on her mother's hand and looking up at Cay jealously. He always got carried places.
Who's Alto?"

Jessica smiled and swung Grace's hand.
"Calm down hon." She said softly, not wanting her to go charging off around the nice house. Much nicer than their own.
"If cookies make them this happy I might have to steal the recipe from you." She added with a wink for Echo.

Zero Dream
User Image"Oh, I am not the one you need to ask for this - I could probably burn water." She said with a grin. "Alto is the mastermind behind them. And Lien, sometimes. She is getting rather good at them."

She pondered for a moment, how to explain it to the young girl. "Alto is a aoide - a dear friend of mine. He doesn't have a voice, but he has his ways to answer people, okay ? He will like the both of you very much, I know."

And so, she lead them onward to the kitchen.

midnight_medea
"Ah, Lien knows?" Jess asked with a grin. "I'll ask her next time I manage to catch her. She's been rather busy lately."
Grace bounced along with them and listened to Echo talk, she loved the sound of her voice.
"Aoi... de." She tried out. "What does that mean? Are they gods too?"

Zero Dream
User Image"Not really. They are servants, favored beings given immortality in the past, long before now... Here, there he is."

Alto had, of course, overheard everything - the cookies where in a plate in the center of the large table, and he gave a bow, pulling a chair for Jess and Grace.

If the lovely ladies would take a seat... He signed, knowing he probably wouldn't get understood, but the goddess relayed for him.

midnight_medea
"Oh." Grace said, not sure that she really understood what that meant. She didn't know long words like immortality or beings. As she saw the interesting man she grinned and realised. "Ah, like the man with the golden wings?" She asked hopefully. He still needed to help her make her own wings.

Jess smirked at her daughter as she pretendded she knew what Echo was talking about. Always pretending to be so grown up. She smiled at the young man, or Aoide who gestured for them to sit and did as he told them, helping Grace up onto her chair.
"Mmmm these look delicious." She said with warmth for the mute Aoide. It had been a long time since she had been able to indulge in such treats.

Zero Dream
User ImageEcho seemed a bit surprised, at first, but then it made since. If the child had seen Nergal, she probably had seen Ishum, too.

"Yes, exactly like that." The goddess sat down, nesting Caleb on her knees as it seemed the little boy didn't look like he wanted to go anywhere.

It is my pleasure. He signed. Would you like something to drink ? Tea ? Water for the little one ?

Once again, Echo relayed for him. It was too bad there was no milk, but such things where hard to find. Finding pure water was hard enough as is !

midnight_medea
Caleb grinned proudly as he got to sit on Echo's lap and tapped his hands on the table happily.

Jess smirked at him and watched the Aoide as he signed to his mistress.
"Um, Tea all round please. If you could put some cold water in Cay's so it's not too hot." She smiled and looked down at Grace. "This is a nice house you have Echo. Did the furniture come with it or did you manage to find it elsewhere?"

Zero Dream
User Image"A little bit of both." Alto turned to busy himself with the kettle. "There where some things, but many where unsalvagable and needed remplacing. We got quite lucky to able to find so much. I... wish it wouldn't have to be this way." She sighed, bouncing Caleb up and down on her knees.

midnight_medea
Jess took a tentative bite of the cookie and smiled as the sweetness melted on her tongue.
"Mmm, these are amazing." She grinned, looking down at Grace and winking as she gave her own yummy noises.
"And ... hmm, I need to see if I can salvage anything. We've been sleeping on a nest of blankets and sitting on the floor."

Caleb grinned as he was bounced and tried to reach forward for his own cookie.

Zero Dream
User ImageAlto was, of course, beaming - which made Echo smile. She reached for the plate and handed a cookie to Caleb.

"The boys can help you, if you want - they're very good for heavy lifting, and they are often looking for something to do, anyway."

midnight_medea
"That would be nice." Jess said with a warm smile. "If I could borrow them for a weekend I just need a sofa and a bed or two." She sipped her tea and watched as Caleb tried to cram the cookie into his mouth sending half of it down Echo's dress.

"Cay, slowly baby." She turned her eyes to Echo. "Sorry." She smiled apologeticaly.

Grace rolled her eyes and watched her brother.
"He always makes a big mess." She sighed as she nibbled carefully on her own cookie.

Zero Dream
User Image"I am sure they will be more than glad to help you out."

Alto nodded for emphasis, and she went to retrieve the lost part of cookie to hand it back to the little one. Her pretty dress was covered in crumbs, but that didn't seem to bother her much.

midnight_medea
Jess smiled and winked at Caleb who gave her a cookie filled smile. In her opinion the whole point of being a kid was to get messy ... then again she believed that to be the point of being an adult too.

"Excellent. I'll let you know when I manage to find some things for us."

Zero Dream
User Image"Allright." Echo gave a smile once more, and, after the cookies where all devoured, Alto took the children to play outside as the two ladies conversed to each other.

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Metamorphosis

Today was not a good day.

While the statement pretty much held true for all the days she had lived through for the last two months (the fact that it had actually been two months had only devastated her further) but today seemed almost worse, if that was even possible. There was a tightness in her chest that refused to leave, a ache in her limbs that seemed to amplify with every second and every movement she made. Nothing felt right, and now even her own body seemed to be rebelling. Nothing was working out, everything was wrong, her search always remained fruitless. There was no clue, no hint as to where to go and what happened. Nothing. The urges where too loud, impossible to ignore.

She needed to get away. Go away and forget. Forget. It. All.

And that was exactly what she had done. She's gotten out without telling anyone, ignored the ache in her limbs and walked off. She did not go to the park. There where too many bad memories there now, she did not know if she would even be able to go there with some peace of mind left intact ever again. She did not know where she was going, but it did not matter, as long as it was away - away from everything, away from her worries, all her problems, away from where she knew Lien had little time left, away from everything.

Too bad she couldn't walk away from herself.

She walked for hours, finding her way out of town, while not heading into any direction in particular. She walked until she finally found her way to a small hillside, and that was when her legs could no longer bear the pain and she finally tumbled and felt, the dry, dead grass cracking under her body. There was nothing, not a sound, not even a yelp of surprise and pain - she used the last of her strength to turn, her back against the scorched earth, and she remained still, staring at the sky. There where stars, a few... so little seemed to remain now, compared from the sky in what remained of her host's memories after they had became one voice and one soul. One arm rose up, trembling, as if to try to touch one of the fews that where left. The sky was otherwise black and empty. Like nothingness. Like Void.

A chill ran down her spine.

She knew something like this would probably be coming. The body was yet mortal in parts - it yet required many things she hadn't been careful to keep up with - in her wild, seemingly useless search. Of course it would eventually rebel. It wasn't hard to see she was not a tad too pale, or how she had slimmed down a bit. The tightness in her chest seemed in increase in intensity and she let out a small sound of discomfort. It was almost like there was something there, trying to claw it's way out. It was so uncomfortable and painful that the only thing that kept the goddess from erupting into tears was that she had none left to shed.

Her aoidei would be upset when they found her here... if they found her there. But she didn't care. She needed to get away, and suffer alone in silence. Or at least in whatever silence a goddess of music could manage. Her wings where kicking into what seemed to be overdrive - they did not stop twitching, moving, and spiraling out of what little control she actually had on them. Nothing felt right. It was like if suddenly, someone had removed the ground from under her, and all she could do was tumble. But right now, she didn't want to think. Think about this. Think about anything at all. If it was possible to evaporate and become darkness, she probably would have.

"And in the end, there was only darkness." She sang, half-heartedly. Her voice resonated in an odd way. She took notice, but didn't care much. "Without him I am lifeless."

It shouldn't be so. It shouldn't have been possible for this to happen. What was this, exactly ? His kidnapping ? His very absence breaking her from inside ? Both of it ? He had been gone before, and it had not been like this. It wasn't healthy for things to be like this.

In her despair, she hadn't noticed the strings. A part of her she was so used to, that she paid them no mind. But they where now trashing wildly in the dead grass, tugging and gaining length, twisting yet never knotting. Their coloration shifted, growing more and more toward gold instead of silver. It didn't take long for the color to start to spread. But in her thought, she did not notice quite yet.

This couldn't do. Wouldn't do. She was headed toward madness, darkness and ruin. This would do her little good. She could not fall. She was a goddess. Why did she keep having to remind herself of her own nature ? Her determination came in patches, then faded the second things no longer went her way.

She'd decided there would be no more of this some time ago, but... it hadn't really worked. But she would try again. Try until she would finally get it right.

Ignoring her pain, she worked herself back onto her feet, her stance wobbly. The strings kept on moving behind her, trashing wildly and ripping off the grass in patches as they hit the ground. The tightness in her chest acted up some more, but this time, she did not let it. Instead, she sang. "I cannot fall now - too much has been given, too much is at stake. Do no despair, for everything find it's way, and I will find a way to you, now and forevermore !"" The sound of her voice, the first and more primal instrument she had discovered, in ages long gone and buried, reaching out beyond what should be possible to even her. It was not a well thought-out melody, not calculated with precision or given thoughts - she seemed to be speaking more than singing, but in the end, it seemed to do.

And, just like that... Everything started. She'd finally let out, and what had been kept bottled so long under rage and despair, the hidden determination that she always had processed yet only showed up at key points of her life, was finally allowed to shine. The tightness in her chest left, but was quickly replaced by pain as something struck her in the back - she almost felt down under the force of the blow, let out a pained scream, then tilted her head in panic to look.

Her wings had seemingly unfolded, the brilliant purple part having actually ripped off her dress in the small of her back and actually sunk into her skin. The "wound" closed almost immediately, but the odd sensations did not fade. Her wings continued to unfold, gaining length and strings grew inside them, as if they had gained some sort of solidity.

She did not get the time to think about what was going on. The pain in her limbs increased and she felt down once more. Bones grew, stretching muscles to follow suit. The body altered itself once more, leaving behind the remnants of the teenager and, with it, the last thread of mortality that had remained. The odd patches the morph had speckled on her skin faded away, her skin regained the healthy color she had lost in the last few months of pain. Touch of purples replaced them, on her lips and face. Some length was also gained at the ears, which flattened back in pain as soon as they gained the mobility to do so. A sudden, faint burning in her eyes forced her to shut them, and she hugged herself in pure reflex. It hurt...

The last thing was completely painless - her hair color faded, altered itself, from black to bright blue and purple - and, at last, it was done. The aches had all but faded, leaving behind only aftershocks and a rather confused goddess who wasn't quite sure what had just happened.

The dress had become very tight and uncomfortable, which made her wince a bit. In despite all this, she felt... oddly better than she had remembered being, beside a few key events on her new life. She felt more like.... herself.

I am finally whole.

What the...

midnight_medea
Cos breathed deeply as she saw the familiar house and hugged the little kitten close to her. She was nervous, very nervous about making this journey back. What if Echo was mad at her. Ishum too. She did not want to live in the Pantheon though she was nervous about living on her own right now.

She flexed her wings, they still ached a little, and pushed the door open slowly.
"Echo?" She called softly. Her voice a little deeper than before. It was odd, to see this house for herself, not as a second person. To touch things with her own hands and feet. "Echo, are you home?"

The kitten wriggled, she let him jump to the ground and moved to the living room, her memory of being locked inside her host dictating direction.

Zero Dream
There was no answer, at first.

She hadn't even taken the time to examine herself in proper detail - she had made her way home, toned out the startled reaction of her aoidei and felt right into bed, until now. One ear twiched once when her name was called. The voice seemed familiar... When she heard her name once more, the ear gave another twitch. Lien ?

....No one else seemed to be answering. The aoidei where probably gone somewhere. Which meant she probably should get up, even if that wasn't exactly what she wanted to do. She shifted to sit, muttering a few chosen words under her breath at the leftover ache in her limbs, then finally noticed a dress on her bed. Well. It was a rather good thing her servants where being much more effective that she was at the moment. She slipped it on and then started to head downstairs.

"Lien... ?"

midnight_medea
Cosine heard the feint call and moved towards it, her fists clenched and her mind willing her to be strong about this. Face the music, that is what Lien wanted.

"Not exactly." She replied, turning towards the stairs and blinking as Echo came into view ... or at least she assumed it was Echo. She was stunned for a moment, unable to speak or react, then, slowly her wits began to return to her. "Echo?" She asked softly.

Zero Dream
Her ears dropped a bit. Not Lien... then.

It must have had happened. There was a pang of pain in her chest, but it was easy to ignore. To be honest, she had somewhat seen it coming.

Yet, it did not quite stop her from halting her advance once she finally saw her, visibely a little startled herself.

They had the same face. Such was the curse of her kind, it seemed. "Cosine." She finally said, her tail of strings moving back and forth behind her form. "...Please, come upstairs. You should be resting." She had the tone of one that spoke from experience.

midnight_medea
It seemed like an age before Echo spoke, the silence in the meantime almost unbearable. When her name was spoken Cosine moved forwards and bowned her head.
"It is a pleasure to meet you at last. You, you were very kind to Lien. She loved you I think." She smiled a little and moved closer still, the invite of stairs and rest calling her.
"I see you too have changed, Lady."

Zero Dream
"...I must admit... That I will miss her." The goddess sighed a bit. "I seem to have. I am... not quite sure how it all happened." She admitted, turning up to lead the young goddess inside. The dress sat on her shape a bit awkwardly - the change was by most means recent.

It was a rare thing that Echo lead guests right into her own room - Nergal had probably been the only one, but the comfort of the newly morphed goddess (...and, admittedly, her own) where her top priorities at the moment. Cosine's presence oddly did not rise any anger - some sorrow and pain perhaps, at the loss of a dear friend, but there was something else, an odd little feeling she wasn't quite used to, something irresistible, as if the goddess following behind her was but a child requiring guidance and protection. Perhaps having seen it all coming and having gotten the time to truly make her peace had helped.

Perhaps this was how Lien would have wanted things to be. Still, she wished her last contact with the girl hadn't been full of her own sorrow, and little of anything else.

Once they had made it upstairs, Echo sat on the bed and motioned for Cosine to take place beside her, if she wished. One rather adventurous kitten tried to chase down her "tail" as it twitched back a forth a bit.

midnight_medea
Cosine nodded and smiled a little as they entered the nice room. She had not entered it she realised and smiled to know she was discovering this for herself. She would miss Lien too, she had not thought of that before. Their friendly arguments, the kind that sisters might have.
"She taught me a lot. I am truely greatful to her for that. I think ... I think i am more human in my rebirth."

Cosine nodded to herself and eased down on the bed next to Echo, watching the kitten absently.
"Still no word of Lord Nergal?" She asked softly, her hands playing nervously with the simple cotton dress she wore.

Zero Dream
"We definitively are." Echo's voice was soft. "There are many things I feel I would not know if none of this had ever happened..."

The goddess shook her head a bit. "None so far... They are covering their tracks well. It might just be a matter of waiting until whoever is implicated makes a mistake..."

midnight_medea
Cosine smiled a little sadly and looked down at her hands.
"That is unfortunate. Though, now, at least I am better equiped for aiding you in your searches."

She breathed deeply and her thoughts went to her twin. She felt a tug, a connection for a moment and then it was gone.
"I found my twin." Her voice took on a brighter note and she looked up at the goddess. "He would like to meet you and help if he can. He is also newly born."

Zero Dream
"Yes... perhaps you will be able to find things that would seem obvious to you, but not quite for us ?" She hadn't had much contact with Cosine, not before now, but she seemed to possess a logical mind that would be unmatched by any of the others she knew.

When she finally spoke of her twin, one ear flicked forward in obvious curiosity. "I am glad that you have finally found him." That must have been such relief to the young woman whom she seemed to become more and more attached to in despite of the lingering pain of the lost of her friend. "I would be glad to meet him... once I have gotten used to this."

midnight_medea
"I will try." Cosine said with a soft smile. "I am afraid much of my mind is still lost." This was hard for the goddess, who in the past had relied so much on her mind and intelligence.
"Um, Echo, I was wondering ... would it be possible for me to remain here. With you? I do not want to live at the Pantheon."

Zero Dream
There was a soft smile, peeking on the goddess' face, erasing the pain and worry that seemed to be constantly clinging to her in the past few months. "If you wish so, we can redecorate the guest room and make it yours." She pondered for a moment. "What about your twin ?" It was an idle question, but the goddess was already trying to figure out how to accommodate for the both of them if needed, without even having met this other, gentle heart that she was.

midnight_medea
The offer put a smile on the goddess's face like a child at Christmas. She had never had friends before, not really. She was sure those she interacted with had been on a business only basis.
"Truely?" She asked. "But, it's okay, I can move when you have guests. And ... I think he would prefer to stay at the Pantheon." She smiled still and breathed deeply. "I want to be independant this time. I was always clinging to him. I ... I love him deeply, but I need to rediscover myself without someone to hide behind."

Zero Dream
"I see." There was no judgment in her voice - she would support Cosine as she best could, but, keeping this in mind, would have to make sure not to become another wall for the young one to hide behind. "That... is something I wish I would have the hindsight to think out later. I barely even know myself, as I am slowly coming to realize... Always there for the others, but... I don't think I've ever took time to completely figure myself out. You know... What I really could do with what I have been given." And now... when she found Nergal, she just might need it.

"But I am rambling, now."

midnight_medea
Cosine smiled and nodded. She really did understand what the goddess was talking about, putting too much of yourself into other things rather than into yourself.

The young goddess took a deep, cleansing breath and had been about to speak when the ground began to tremble, or at least it felt that way. What would have been words became a scream as pain tore through her insides. It ripped at every thread of her being worse than the morph had been, like shards of glass ripping through her veins and tearing at her heart. This was not the pain of rebirth it was the pain of hate and destruction.

Dispair swept over her and words revolved in her tormented mind, fears insecurites horrifying images that had her curled into a shaking ball on the bed. If she made herself small it would leave her alone, the pain would fade ... if she could just bury within herself.

"Echo." She whimpered, using all of her will to stretch her hand out shakily towards the older goddess.

Zero Dream
There was no vocal answer from the other goddess. But she got one in action. Echo lashed onto her, wings folding as if to somehow protect her from this unknown force, this unknown pain. It lashed at her from within - threatened to shatter and destroy what stability of mind and body she had at last managed to recover. It felt never-ending, tainted with something even more horrible than she could comprend.

This was familiar.... All too horribly familiar. The search for the answer took her backward, so far back. To when she was but a gem set in a teenager's skin.

The betrayal. Blue on blue eyes widened both at this realization and the ever-increasing pain. This time, it was not only them. She could hear it well. The aoidei screaming. Screams and sobs coming from outside, probably extending far beyond her keen sense of hearing would pick them up. Far beyond this town, this country... This World. Her ears pinned down, but she couldn't make it all go away. She couldn't make it all stop. She was shaking like a leaf, clinging onto Cosine both physically and mentally - the younger one was her anchor - her sole determination not to shatter like a glass piece.

"T-The twin crown..." She muttered, but didn't finish as she had to bite back a scream. With her voice doing what it did, and the closeness of the other to her, she was far to afraid to deafen her should she allow herself to scream and never stop.

midnight_medea
Cosine burried against Echo, her hand clinging to her as a child might. Her warmth, her protection gave her strength. Not a great deal but enough to make it through the evil that washed over them.

Slowly the dispare subsided, her green eyes opened shakily and she tilted her head to look up at Echo. The pain etched across her face said it all. Something bad had happened, very bad.

"What was that?" She asked hoarsely, her voice wavering a little.

Zero Dream
"Something..." The goddess didn't seem all.... there anymore, as she rambled on. "...Not again... No..."

Harmodius, impaled on a blade, Her creator, her lord, her father... Threatened. Then gone. Her wings finally unfolded, drooping to the side. "No.... F-Father...."

midnight_medea
Cosine breathed deeply and swallowed a wave of nausea as she tried to focus. Echo, who clearly had been hit badly by the storm seemed lost to it, rambling incoherantly.

"Echo." She said firmer, placing a hand on her cheek and looking into her eyes. "Echo, listen to me." Her voice was authorative, the tone of one who did not like nonsense in any shape or form. "You need to tell me what happened
."

Zero Dream
"Father.... L-Lost." She rambled on, her ears pinning backward in distress. "This. This happened... when." This didn't seem to be working. Somewhere, deep inside herself, something screamed that she needed to get a hold on herself before the cracks in her sanity became shards, but it didn't quite make it through the panic and pain. There was a cacophony of things going on inside her head that kept her from gathering herself once more. She couldn't stop trembling.

There couldn't be SOMETHING else.... Not now. She'd had enough....

midnight_medea
"Echo." Cosine said urgently. She could not lose the goddess, with Nergal gone there was no one else around here to help. Deep within her something began to stretch, to reach out. Her mind reached for her twin's reaching for his strenghth and love, borrowing it she used it to envelope Echo.

Memories would catch the goddess's failing mind. Times with Nergal, happy ones of talk and budding feelings, the laughter and smiles of Grace and Caleb as they were entertained by her music .... music. Music most of all, it seemed to fill the void between them and uplift the darkness that had been lurking there.

Zero Dream
She kept on babbling comprehensively for a moment, but as suddenly as she started, she stopped, growing silent. In a second that felt like forever, everything went silent, even her wings.

She'd promised herself to be strong. For them..

At least, her wings perked up again - the faint buzz that surrounded them always started up once again. The goddess shifted her weight, no longer leaning completely on the younger one, as the thick haze finally started to lift from her mind.

"Harmodius..." She did not sound incoherent, at least. "The last time this happened.... The Twin Crown had been wounded... But... It was only us... not..." Her voice broke up. "I must.... I must check on them... It wasn't just us, it was everyone, everything with a life... The aoidei... The mortals... Everyone... I heard them... The nearby ones, I heard them all"

There was a pause.

"Cosine... Something terrible just happened."

midnight_medea
All, Cosine had heard them too. Her thoughts went out the small family that had been Lien's friends. Could they take such a hit of hate and fear. She breathed deeply and then, as Echo, her mind went to those who lived with them. Animals too.
"Ishum ..." She said, involuntarily, maybe some remenant of the feelings of her host. "The others too."

This was all too much.
"What ... what should we do?" She asked, too shocked now to be the logical one. "The Pantheon, my brother was there .... but ... something tells me he is safe. That is the heart is it not?"

Zero Dream
"We should make sure everyone is well." She muttered, managing to finally work herself on her feet. "After that.... We need to go the pantheon. Quickly. Something happened to Harmodius." Her voice held no doubt about that fact. "...He might need us, if it isn't already too late."

midnight_medea
Cos nodded and breathed deeply, trying desperatly to pull herself together.

"yes," She agreed, getting to her feet and wobbling a little as her head spun. Once it was settled she turned to the goddess and smiled a little. "Let's go." She said softly.

Zero Dream
Echo wasn't exactly so well off either, which was evident in the wobble in her steps. Her head was spinning, but she refused to let that slow her down.

The aoidei... well, at least two of them, had returned in the meanwhile - this was no surprise to her, as she'd heard them... Heard them express their pain in their own way. When the finally reached downstairs, she saw them - two of her boys, sitting on the floor. Tempo was busying himself tending to Alto's wounds. It was only when the latter tensed that the former reacted.

"My lady ! ....Lady Cosine ?" He seemed a little puzzled, but she looked so much like Lien... It was too uncanny to be anyone else. "Are you well ?! What was this ?!?"

"....Mostly." She quickly ripped some of her dress to bind the dark aoidei's own wounds, before he over-exerted himself. "What about Concerto ? And Ishum ?"

"Concerto must be at the pantheon with Lord Desiderio... Ishum, I do not know."

midnight_medea
Cosine followed Echo slowly and frowned a little to see the state of the Aoide. If this wave could do such things to the immortals she could only imagine the damage to human life.

"I .. yes, i am well. Or as well as any of us can be." She managed a small smile and felt a little fear at Tempo's words. "Poor Ishum." She said softly, blushing a little and cursing her host. "I'll go ... see if he's okay." Though would he really want two shocks at once.

Zero Dream
Echo nodded, a bit distracted by everything that was suddenly unfolding. Alto moved to her side and rested himself against her almost protectively, in despite her weakness. "That is a good idea. Once I am sure everything is okay, ill head to the pantheon... I need to make sure Concerto is allright..."

There would be no time to check on Melody. Or Charles. She hated herself for it, but priorities had to be set.

midnight_medea
Cosine nodded and looked to the two Aoide with a small smile.
"I ... I'll follow if I can." She said softly, nodding as if to assert herself and then turning towards the door.
"Be safe Echo."

Imperfect cry
Scream in ecstasy
So what befalls the flawless?

Look what i've built (Please dont do this)
It shines so beautifully. (Why wont you look at me?)
Now watch as it destroys me.

Y regreso aquí otra vez y comienzo... to...

BREAK DOWN!
and cease all feeling
BURN NOW!
What once was breathing
REACH OUT!
And you may take my heart away!

-- "The Leaving Song part 2" - AFI

Loss
Week of Sloth

It tooks days before she was even able to leave, thanks to the grigori's barrier. That, and she was feeling so oddly sluggish... so oddly drained. She blamed it on the sight of the cocoon, on her recent changes, and on spending the days she had been trapped for looking over Arctang and making sure what injuries he had gained where at the very least not infecting. There was little else she could do. Medicine was not her art.

In despite the sluggishness she felt, in despite the unwillingness to move, she did so - first headed toward home, at least, but suddenly deviating her path. She had... she had to make sure they where alright. That she was alright.

The state of the world was horrible. Many buildings, already fragile from years of negative influence, had simply crumbled. Her body protested, but her will was yet stronger, so she sidestepped the obstacles. How many had died, just in this city alone ? Thankfully, the building she sought out still stood. The goddess slid her way inside, not caring that she looked like a complete mess - her dress ragged and ripped off, strands of hairs breaking free from the bun that she had not taken the time to remake. This was far from a good time for vanity to matter. She made it up the stairs and knocked on the door.

"Melody ?"

Nothing. Echo frowned, she did not like this - panic started to stir inside of her. She knocked again. "Melody ?!?"

Still nothing. She twisted the handle - the door opened. It wasn't locked. Everything inside seemed pristine - at least there had been no looting.... But the mousegirl always locked the door behind her.

There was an horrible feeling growing inside her, a pit inside her stomach that was growing bigger and bigger with every step she took. The goddess headed for the bedroom, and she saw her, laying down. "Melody !"

Nothing. She approached, reached to shake her. Maybe she was simply asleep.

The body was completely cold - she recoiled instantaneously and only stopped when her back smacked into the wall, a look of pure horror on her face.

No. Nonononononono. This couldn't be possible. This couldn't be true.

This couldn't be HAPPENING !

Yet, when she went to touch her once more, the body was cold. There was no reaction, and her heart sank.

She was dead. Had died a long time ago. And she hadn't been here to prevent it. Hadn't even been here to comfort her, as the goddess she had chosen to follow.

What a goddess, hmmm ?

Echo studdered. And then she screamed, full of anguish and pain. A nearby window shattered, but she didn't care.

There was only one thing she could do for the little one. She took the small form of the mousegirl in her arms, and walked outside, ignoring the haze, ignoring the pain, ignoring the heavy weight that had suddenly gotten even heavier and threatened to crush her whole.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was not much - a grave in a graveyard, marked by a large stone. She would have it engraved later, when she found someone who could. She dug everything herself and gave her loved friend, her first follower in this new life, a kiss on her cold, lifeless forehead before lowering her down and burrying her. The shovel felt so heavy, but she forced herself to continue, the tears falling heavily and constantly as she did so. When that was done, she smoothed it out and discarded the showel.

There where no rites, this was not the usual, she knew, but... this was better than nothing. And, then, she sang - her lament dragging heavy in the air for what seemed to be hours, before she finally collapsed and gave in, the darkness overtaking her.

It would be one full day before she awoke once more, and grudgingly dragged herself back home, dirty, tattered, and frayed at the edge.

She couldn't, and probably would never, see the small ghost of a mousegirl in asian clothing that had never once left her side during the whole ordeal.

_____But where was home?

That Old Place was gone, crumbled to ashes and dust long ago. The New Place was still mere potential, waiting for him to remember how to Make, how to Become once more. Growandchangegrowandchange..

_____So where?

His bloodied hand trembled slightly as it reached for the golden band. Hand, Heart and Crown. This thing.. it had been important to him once. He still needed to give it to.. someone..

_____Crystal blue eyes, sweetest voice, muse of muses.

The intangible mist of his wings swirled and shifted, seeming to grow more solid with every passing moment, and then his mighty wingspan unfurled, as if readying for flight.

_____Yes.

He made another step forward, his expression shifting to vague disappointment when woman, hand and ring disappeared into thin air before he could take it from her palm. Where had she gone to, so suddenly?

No no no. It was him who had gone. Just where to?

_____Everywhere.

_____Nowhere.

All the places, yet none of them, his step lingering somewhere in between. He could feel them, sense them, planes outstretched before him and all around. Writhing, shaking in convulsions, their lights growing dim. That gaping hole which was himself. He did not want to touch upon that.

_____Where to? Where to?

He needed to decide, or else be lost here-not-here forever.

There was a place, one place, he felt more strongly than others, lines of mana converging, shining to him like a beacon. That-there was 'home' of sorts, meeting place, council. Throne, but not his. Crown, but not his. Not his. No, he did not want to go there.

_____But she..

_____Not there, but close. Yes.

He made another step upon broken path, planes slipping sidewards to make way for just one, dust, bone and ash turning into gravel underneath his bare feet. Tall monuments of stone barely visible in the light of the setting - or rising? - sun, names and dates inscribed, beginnings and endings, last wishes before final farewell. A high wall, collapsed in some places, reliefs carved into its surface, of death asking everyone for a dance, no matter their rank or status. Beggar, minstrel, peasant, king.. Statues of winged beings, carved from white marble and alabaster, their appearance seemingly echoing his own..

The corner of his lips, still stained with the demon's blood, twitched up. He felt the irrational urge to laugh, but failed to see why.

So he did the next best thing - he collapsed.

It didn't take long for the first ghostly flame to flicker up, drawn to the god's pale body by powers unseen. It hovered close to it but kept flicking here and there erratically, as if undecided what to do. Soon enough, others followed suit, lightening the scenery with their eerie light, holding silent vigil.

User ImageEcho had all but hidden herself from the rest of the world after the events that has unfolded themselves. Apathy had been replaced by bitterness, and grief refused to unroot itself from her very being,

As always, unlike the others, she seemed completely powerless when it truly mattered. Unable to change the outcome of things, to protect those who needed it.

Useless, powerless, not a great power in face of what seemed to be the end of all.

She had failed to do a difference, just as she had failed to protect her - one hand went to touch the smooth stone of the makeshift, unmarked tombstone she had made for Melody. The first one who had believed.... And she had failed her.

Suddenly, her attention was diverted - there was an odd feeling, an odd presence in the air that she could not quite identify...

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A tiny light flitted past her, a floating flame of ghostly blue. A familiar sight to those close to Underworld, but one which had become increasingly rare ever since he had been taken, until - in the end - none had been seen for weeks to come. Especially not since the wave.

It danced here and there erratically, as if not entirely sure where it was heading to, before it zipped off to vanish behind a grove of ancient oak trees. They must have been truly majestic once, marking where the crypts of noblemen and their families lay, and at the same time hiding them from the sight of commoners. But now they were dead and withered, slowly rotting from the inside out.

Another of the wisps appeared, hovering a mere step away from the distraught goddess like a tiny candle flame, as if daring her to try and touch it. A strange invitation for a game of tag, perhaps. Before she could do anything, however, it too zoomed off, heading for the grove as well. And - judging from the dim light flickering behind the once tall trees - those two hadn't been the only ones.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe first wisp honestly startled her, almost made her trip as she took a few steps backward. She was familiar with them, but she hadn't expected to see one. It had been weeks since the last one had left her house, before clinging to her for a few moments as if she could have somehow led it to what it had sought... who it had sought. Before she could ponder it in greater detail, it was gone, fleeting away. It made sense she would see one here - after all, this was a graveyard.

And then there was another, bolder, more curious, which left her into awe for a moment. She had never gotten one this close enough to her before, but it, too, zoomed off before she could react. She watched it leave, dumbfounded, and then.... There where so many, beyond the tree.

She had only seen so many a few times before.... She dashed off to follow then, some kindlings of hope lightened once more deep within her.

No..

Not gathering around something.

Around someone.

There was a lifeless figure on the ground.. Skin white as alabaster, but dirty, stained with dried, almost-black blood. Fine long hair sprawled messily around the head, the matted strands hiding most of the face. They were also white, but of an colder, almost metallic sheen.

The strangest thing, mayhaps, was the fog. It wasn't the weather for fog, and it seemed to have gathered only here, within the grove. Some of it - but perhaps the unsteady light had her eyes play tricks to her - seemed to be vaguely shaped in the form of a pair of large wings.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe stopped at the edge, outside of that distance that the wisps barely dared to cross, surrounded by so many of them that the goddess seemed to be ethereal and alight herself.

There was a body there, and it sent a chill down her spine. A victim of something horrible, she couldn't help but assume, but yet... the wisps are what made her come closer. They couldn't be there without a reason. It was almost as if they where trying to tell her something...

When she knelt down to take a closer look, that was when it all snapped into place. In the process, she was completely submerged by the "fog"...

...And the feeling that resulted made her heart race, and her eyes widen, as she all but screeched for Tempo to come, as he had stayed away from her so she could grieve in peace. It was him, was him, it HAD to be him, couldn't be anyone else. She was certain. The familiarity, now that she had gotten close enough, was too great.

But... what had happened to him ? If it wasn't for that feeling, she might not have ever recognized him. White as snow, covered in blood, the dreads undone, leaving behind strands that looked as delicate as spiderwebs...

When she went to take him, she recoiled. The body was cold. She then quickly noticed he wasn't breathing. She started to panic. Was she too late ? No, she couldn't be, she couldn't stand to lose some else, least of all him, couldn't, couldn't, couldn't...

Somehow, in her panic, she remembered to breathe. She needed to calm down, this would not do her anything good. He was so radically different... perhaps...

After all, he was the god of the dead. If anything, it seemed too early to worry.

Grey eyes fluttered open hesitantly for but a moment when he felt he was lifted up. Had he made it? That man was familiar, but the woman.. No, that wasn't her.

Too weak even to utter the faintest hint of a protest - that he did not wish to be touched, that they should just leave him be - his eyes slid shut once more.

Zero Dream
User ImageThey had made their way back home quickly, much quicker than the way out had been - and once there, she took care of him, washing the blood away and finding a loose yukata for him to wear - she had found it just days before he dissapaired and had intended it as a gift, she couldn't help but remember bitterly, but... it would do. After that was done she just set him into her bed - going all the way to the other side of the house seemed like it wouldn't be worth the hassle, and he just might need someone nearby when he woke up. There wasn't much coffee left but she started to brew some.... just in case.

After all that was over, there was nothing left to focus her mind on but wait. Concerto was still at the pantheon, insisting that he needed to be there for Adi and Rio... but with his wounded leg, that only made her worry more. There wasn't much she could think of that didn't make her worry even more, make her even more stressed out.

All she could do is wait. Wait and hope that things would be alright. But did she have enough strength, enough hope left to do that ? And that was saying nothing of the dark thoughts that never seemed to leave her...

Eventually, she stopped pacing and sat in the chair, reaching out for the violin case. There was a faint layer of dust on it, as with most of the instruments. She hadn't had the will to even look at them lately, but... things where so honestly going out of hand She wasn't sure how much more she could take. She had to unwind, somehow...

She took the instrument out and, after doing her best to will her hands to stop shaking, started to play.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The soothing tune, an improvisation complex and simple the same, invaded his dreamless rest, tugging softly at his consciousness, beckoning it to return to the surface, to wake.

He shifted only slightly at first, one pale hand trailing over the smooth, clean fabric of the blanket covering him, until it encountered something else - soft fur, a warm living presence, its whole body vibrating with a deep content purr. "Annie.." He whispered, voice full of hope, and his eyes fluttered open to look. But no, that wasn't her, that cat looked completely different, just as that woman--

That train of thoughts came to a stuttering halt when he was distracted by the look of his own hand and arm. The color of bleached bone, no visible scars nor injuries, flawless, perfect. Not me. It felt wrong after what he'd gone through, as if it wasn't a part of him, as if he was a stranger within his own body.. Suddenly remembering something, his hand flew up to touch his neck--

That dreaded collar, gone, finally.

It was over.

He breathed a deep sigh of relief, his hand limply dropping back onto the sheets. The violin tune had stopped, he registered belatedly, not entirely sure for how long - but there was another one, a distinct melodic hum still audible even over the low, content purr of the cat, and the voices, the voices...

He rose, finally, shakily supporting the weight of his upper body with his elbows. He could hear them much, much clearer now, the voices of the dead. They were crescendo, so many, so many..

What had happened?

The hum, he had been wondering about the hum. It was so familiar..

He sat up fully, moaning slightly as he grasped his forehead with trembling hands. Why, why, why was it so damn hard to focus?

Finally, his head turned, to gaze at where the violin player was seated. She'd lowered the instrument, hands trembling slightly as she stared at him wide-eyed. There was something.. achingly familiar about her, the lines of her face, the blue-in-blue of her eyes, the golden strings coiled around her form and wrapped elegantly around her arm, the wings..

That hum was emitted by her wings, he realized, frowning. But it was wrong. Too complex, too harmonious, too different from what it should sound like. It all was familiar yet wrong, and that he could not make sense of it was starting to fill him with unease which quickly started to develop into panic.

"Who..?" he whispered, but then hesitated. Already he could see the growing pain in her eyes, strangely echoed by an ache in his chest. But it was too late now to backpedal and.. he had to start make sense of things somehow, somewhere. Bring order back into the chaos.

"Who are you?" he finished his question, seeming almost apologetic about it. The gray eyes looking at her were dull, empty.

Zero Dream
User ImageHe could probably have hurt her physically, and the pain would be more bearable than this.

Who are you. She was but a stranger in his own mind. She wasn't sure if she should be angry, or crying, or both.... Hell, she wasn't even sure what the was supposed to do anymore. Everything was spiraling out of her control too fast for her to somehow straighten things out.

Useless.... It just seemed that, unlike the others of her kind, no matter what she did... Nothing worked out straight, nothing worked out right. The dark, jealous thoughts that gathered in her mind refused to leave, and it was almost like they where poisoning her.

Her hands where shaking even more, and she set the violin aside before she accidentally wound up dropping it. She was different, but logic, to her, would dictate... They where in her home, in her room, with what little was left of her cats, surrounded by her instruments...

What in hell had been DONE to him ? Her ears drooped backward at that thought. It seemed useless to answer, useless to even try to explain things out. She could just make sure he was alright, then vanish in the nothingness from where she had seemingly came from. Would that somehow make things better... ?

"I..." Her voice choked down before she could continue, one hand raising to catch the tears. Crying was useless, but the emotional pain was unbelievable. She was back to nothing to do nothing but cry and waste away.

_____"...No matter where you go
_____or how long you are gone
_____No matter if you go to the end of the world and back
_____I will be there when you need me
_____The brightest star.... that guides your way home."

Her distress was so tangible while she sang, the song she had written for him, the one that he had never gotten to hear before. If it was for her own peace of mind, or so he could at least finally hear it... even she was not quite sure.

He looked down, unable to meet her gaze any longer, his fingers kneading the blanket nervously. If only he could find the right words to apologize, to explain..

But then she started to sing, and everything became clear. That voice, that one voice among the countless, of the countless.. A tremor went through his body as he raised his head again to stare at her, realization dawning on his face and some semblance of life returning to his eyes.

"Echo..?" he whispered hesitantly, voice trembling with hope and uncertainty alike. It had to be her, but.. she looked so different! "You have.. changed," he added weakly, putting his confusion into words.

User ImageShe looked at him, unshed tears making the side of her eyes glimmer in the low light. Eyes full of hope, after he had only spoken a single word.

Hope so fragile that it seemed like the faintest breath could shatter it.

"Yes, I..." The words came short, again. She wasn't quite sure what to say. Pointing out that she wasn't the only one probably would do little to make the situation better. "...Im sorry, I should have thought..." She wasn't the best at thinking, especially now. At least it seemed embarrassment had replaced pain.

Suddenly, her mind seemed to latch upon something else. "Rest." She'd only now noticed he was sitting, really. Or at least it had only now truly registered. "Do you want something to eat ? ...Coffee ?" Her lips pulled slightly upward at her last comment.

Thabara

Coffee, however.. He'd caught the scent a while ago, familiar, pleasant, but not thought much of it. Too overwhelmed by the overall impressions flooding his senses, and his futile attempts to figure out the wrongness of things. But now that his favorite beverage was explicitly mentioned.. He perked up visibly, immediately able to recall the unique strong, yet complex and aromatic flavor.

"But I would love a cup of coffee, yes." Obeying her command to rest, he sank back into the pillows, the hopeful look of anticipation on his face endearing.

User ImageCosine stared into the mirror for what seemed like the hundreth time that week. She was a mess, nothing that would resemble a goddess. Even if she was half a one. She sighed and pulled at the old nightshirt she had been living in. She wanted clothes, gorgeous beautiful clothes ... clothes like Echo.

But Echo wasn't here, she was still at the Pantheon. Of course the Aoide might know where she could get such things but they seemed to be keeping their distance. In the corner of the mirror she spotted an object zooming towards her. She ducked, a cushion from the livingroom hit the mirror and bounced onto the floor.
"Oh, that was scary." She muttered in a dry tone thinking of all those beautiful fabrics and dresses in music's wardrobe. Surely she would not mind if she took just one ... one dress wouldn't hurt. Or two maybe, the goddess thought with a smile that erred just on the wrong side of sanity.

No one would know.

Smoothing her hands over her nightdress that had seen better days she crept out into the call, raising an eyebrow at a cat who hissed and stood over a half chewed mouse.
euw, as if she would want that.

Echo's room. She had only been there once, the day of the wave. The goddess paused, glanced around to see if anyone was coming and slipped into the room just as a coaster struck the door behind her.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It wasn't long after Echo had left the room - leaving Nergal alone with his struggle to align the Echo he knew with the one he had just encountered - when the door opened again. Soon, too soon to be her - unless she had forgotten about something and returned right away - and indeed the person who entered was someone completely different. Familiar though.

"Lien ..?" Nergal inquired hesitantly. There still was a distinct discrepancy between the person in his memories and the one who had just stepped in, but the semblance was close enough. Cosine's ascension hadn't caused her body to look as radically different as Echo's. "No," he murmured softly, recognizing his error as soon as that thought had struck his mind, "you.. must be Cosine?"

How much time had passed, he wondered, to allow for both goddesses to ascend? His gaze rested on the various instruments assembled in the room for a moment, taking notice of them now for the first time since he had awakened, and also of the layer of dust covering them. They had not been touched for quite a while. What... had happened?

midnight_medea
User ImageCosine had just shut the door ever so carefully when the male voice met her ears. Lien? She blinked and spun round. Okay, poltergueists she could handle, pissed off cats fine ... but now, now there was some strange pale man in Echo's bed.
"Wha ... " she began, her mouth open like she was trying to catch flies.

Wait,

There was something familiar about him. The way he spoke, his manner. She breathed deeply and closed her mouth.
"Lord Nergal? Is that you?" Cosine asked tentatively. Was he a ghost too? Or maybe she really was going insane. That would account for the odd appearence. "I was er, just um ..." She gestured hopelessly and glanced around the room. "Looking for Echo."

"Yes," he said quietly, slowly moving to sit up again despite the fact he'd been told to rest. "Everything.. has changed, it seems, since I was taken, with me being no exception." He hadn't had a chance to look into a mirror yet, he realized, gazing down at his hands, that flawless white skin.

"Echo.. You have just missed her. She went down to get something for me, but should be back soon enough." He offered her a smile, uncertain and a little wistful. "Congratulations ..?"

User ImageCosine smiled as he confirmed he was Nergal and she stepped a little closer, her hunt for pretties seemingly forgotten.
"Congratulations to you too, and ... you have no idea how good it is to see you home, safe. If a little, or a lot different." She nodded a little and sat down gently on the edge of the bed next to him. It seemed Lien's boldness had yet to leave her among other traits. She studied him a moment and smiled, a little warmer. There was trouble behind his eyes and he seemed confused, weak despite his renewed power.
"We all missed you. Are you well?" she gestured to his convalescance in the bed and folded her hands in her lap. "Did ... " A small, nervous pause. "Did you get hurt?"

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I.. Thank you." He inclined his head politely, his smile deepening a bit as her welcome made it all feel a little more.. real. It faded quickly from his face, however, upon her next query.

The way he tensed and froze, the way life seemed to drain from his eyes within moments was more then enough to tell her that, yes, he indeed had been hurt. "The marks and injuries.. were numerous," he said, raising one trembling hand to gaze at it for a moment before he let it drop back into his lap. "So strange to see them gone now without a trace. It does not seem right." He shivered. Those scars weren't truly gone. They were just not visible anymore. "So little seems right and make sense right now."

"Do not tell Echo," he pleaded all of a sudden, his tone urgent. "She suffers enough already."

User ImageCosine was disturbed by the look that came over his face. She should not have asked, really should not have asked. She watched the haunted gaze take over him and the tremble in his hands. This was Lord Nergal. Underworld. She swallowed. If it could have shaken him so then it must have been truely terrible.

"I will not tell her." She said softly, thinking of the pain she saw her in when the wave hit. Slowly she reached out and took his cold hand in her warm ones and sent a wish.

One for sorrow,
two for joy,
three for a girl,
for for a boy,
five for silver,
six for gold,
seven for a secret,
never to be told,
eight for a wish,
nine for a kiss,
ten for a time
of joyous bliss.

"May the future bring you better times." She said softly, leaving a feeling of warmth to wash over him. She might not be strong or powerful but every little helped. The goddess released his hand and folded her hands in her lap once more. "I met your brother." She ventured, changing the topic to lighter things.

Zero Dream
User ImageEcho had been gone for quite a bit by now, balancing the tray with the cup on one hand as best as she could without sending the whole thing crashing down while avoiding poltergeists, cats, and other assorted things as she was, ironically enough, looking for Cosine. She figured the young goddess would like to know about this - there was also Ankou and the red-headed host, but.... she couldn't exactly just dump a whole happy troupe of people on him while he was recovering, no.

When it seemed the goddess of numbers was nowhere to be found, she turned to head back to her room, sidestepping away from the glass shards as she turned the handle to slide inside.

"Oh, there you are, dear." Echo's ears perked upward. "I was looking for you, but it seems that you've found your way on your own, hmm ?"

She had, of course, noticed that something seemed to be very... off with Cosine in the last few days. Hopefully this would help a little. Seeing the young one so... off tilter broke her heart. It seemed the motherly feelings had carried over from host to goddess rather easily, and it would be easy for Nergal to see that by the look in her eyes, by the way she approached them, kicking off her shoes as there was no glass to worry about here. She set the tray down on the small dresser right next to the bed, in his reach and sat beside Cosine. Hopefully he would speak up if they where invading his space, as it seemed to be the last thing she was thinking about at the moment. Thankfully for them both, it seemed that she had only heard the last comment.

"Oh, yes, Ankou. He and Adrian are... at the pantheon, I believe."

She had used her powers somehow, he sensed, feeling a slight shift in things, and warmth brushing over him. It was.. pleasant, so he simply let it happen, not trying to pit his strength against that of the younger goddess. She did not mean ill.

He looked up when Echo entered, wondering how just much of their conversation she might have overheard. He quietly took in the sight of her as she walked close. She had changed, grown, not only in appearance and powers. The impression he had of her, was that of an uncertain teen, awkward and embarrassed about herself and everything. Now.. it seemed she had grown up, her motherly attitude towards the younger goddess strangely reminding him of Kishara's.

He gave Echo a grateful nod when she sat down the tray for him, cold fingers quickly wrapping around the porcelain cup as if trying to absorb the warmth it gave up. For a few seconds, he closed his eyes, simply enjoying the aromatic scent before he took a sip. It was bitter, having been brewed too long, but it didn't matter.. To him it tasted like heaven. Still, he'd have to teach her how to do it properly, sometime. "Thank you," he murmured again, finally registering what else had been said.

"My brother is here?" There was a strange ache at his back, from where his wings sprung, and he wondered if the scar-like marks were still there, on this new, flawless skin of his.

User ImageCosine looked up as Echo entered and suddenly felt guilty for her invasion plans. Stealing, she didn't steal ... did she.
"Oh, Echo." She smiled warmly and turned her eyes to the goddess as she sat next to her. Now the sadness would leave her. She hoped. "I um, I was wondering if you could lend me some clothes." She said, gesturing to her old ones and trying not to eye Echo's own ones up too much. God! what was wrong with her.

"The pantheon?" She questioned a little confused. "Adrian came back here with me ... though come to think of it I have not seen him since." She frowned a little and hoped that they were safe. She had liked them both despite the brief and rather depressing meeting. She had not seen much of anybody since. Sticking to her room and only venturing out when she knew others would be asleep.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe listened to Cosine speak, a small puzzled look crossing her face. That must have happened while she was out... probably mourning.

"...So there's no way to know where he actually is." The goddess barely repressed the urge to facepalm. How peachy. Hopefully he would show up again on his own.

With that out of the way, the goddess pondered things over, fingers tapping one finger on his chin as she got up and went toward the dresser in silent agreement. The request did not sound too unusual to her, and the undertones thankfully seemed completely lost on the goddess. Her glance went to what was inside the dresser, back to Cosine, and so forth, a few times, thought apparent. No, that just wasn't her color, that looked like it would be uncomfortable on her... ah, this however...

This went on for a few minute, until she finally returned with an armful of things. Most did not fit her anymore, so she had little attachment left to them. "Would that do ?" Would at least get her started, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Instead he kept gazing at the two goddesses, trying to get accustomed to the changes which had been brought on by their ascensions. Especially Echo. The way she moved, the way she gestured and talked. The way those strange eyes seemed to shift in accordance to the highs and lows of her voice. The way those strings trailed after her as if they possessed a life of their own. Perhaps they did.

He should have recognized her, despite everything, he should have. If appearances kept fooling him like that, how could he still say that he ...?

That he loved her?

She would forgive him, of course. Point out the circumstances. Too kind, always too kind.

He emptied his cup, setting it upon the tray a little harder than he had been intending to, and let himself drop back into the pillows.

She turned her eyes back to Nergal, watching him watch the goddess. It made her feel uncomfortable, almost if she were intruding some how. The clothes were placed in her arms and she looked up at Echo with a smile.
"Thank you very much."

The goddess stood, hugging the pretty fabrics to her chest and glancing between the two of them again.
"It's nice to see you back safe." A nod and she moved towards the door. Nice, but how long were they all safe for? "Um, if you need anything you know where to find me."

"If you need anything..." Her voice was soft, as she looked at Nergal once more. "Let me know. I will be downstairs, alright ? Rest."

It's bugging me, grating me
and twisting me around
yeah I'm endlessly caving in
and turning inside out

'cause I want it now
I want it now
give me your heart and your soul
and I'm breaking out
I'm breaking out
last chance to lose control

All Is Full Of Love
Week of Lust

Zero Dream
User ImageA few days had passed since, and things... well, normality was probably too strong of a word, but things seemed to have settled into something more bearable for the newly ascended goddess. It wasn't quite so hard to go through the days anymore, even if her days focused on taking care of Nergal and making sure all was well.

As least he was here now. Not lost, not trapped, not being subjected to whatever it was that he completely refused to tell her. The refusal kind of hurt her, but she respected his privacy. Maybe, eventually, when the dust had settled...

Until then, all she could do was quiet her overactive mind that kept itself quite busy thinking about the worst. The dark thoughts had seemingly lifted - it was at least a bit easier to think and focus.

She stepped in her room as per usual - she'd pretty much refused to let the god out of her sight until he had gathered enough strength to go about on his down, and peeked inside. "My lord... ?"

It was hard to tell if he was awake, passed out, or just resting sometimes.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Echo." A smile crossed Nergal's features as he took notice of her presence. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, the garment Echo had given him only loosely wrapped around his shoulders.

"Come in, please. Do not like you are intruding in any way," her guest said, beckoning her to come closer. "This is your house after all. I.. should probably stop abusing your hospitality before too long," he added apologetically. "There really is no reason to occupy your room, and your bed, much longer. I am well."

The tiny pause before the last sentence, though, was a split-second too long for it to be the full truth.

Zero Dream
User ImageAnd that split second was enough for her to figure it out. "You are not being any bother howsoever. Do not think that you are." In fact, she preferred to have him here, for now. Kept her mind from worrying.

She came closer, to sit beside him. At the very least, he seemed better than he was when she first found him, a bit more focused, at least. This was a good thing, a good thing indeed.

But the loose robes, somehow, somehow where incredibly distracting. As did his hair. Thin and pale as spiderwebs, pale strands not set in their usual ways. He looked so different, without the dreadlocks.

Oh, how she wanted to touch them, but she managed to stop herself just as her hand rose. What was she doing ?! He was probably still a bit in unease with her looking so different, with anyone touching him, she noticed.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Mh," he said vaguely, shaking his head. "I do not. I appreciate your care, and even more so, your company. It.." He hesitated for a moment before he added with a haunted look on his face: "It keeps the shadows at bay." For a second it seemed as if he was about to say more, but then he simply shook his head again. With Ankou, perhaps, he could share, have him help carry some of the burden, the pain. But not Echo. Not Echo.

"You may touch me," he said quietly, having noticed her hand raising for him but then coming to a halt. Inwardly he recoiled, did not want to be touched ever again. But she.. She did not mean harm. She wouldn't hurt him. He kept repeating this to himself, like a mantra, but still he was visibly tense.

The last time one of her aoidei had touched him unexpectedly, it had sent him skittering to into the corner, back pressed against the wall, shivering, eyes wide with shock and horror. Had she been told, he wondered, and if so, what was she thinking of it? The idea that she might be able to guess at the humiliation he had gone through filled him deeply with shame. Her concern and worry he appreciated and could deal with. But there was still enough of his old pride left for him to not want her pity.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe remained completely still, barely even breathing for a moment, conflicted. She could see how tense he was, it was impossible not to notice. There was definitively things that everyone seemed determined to keep her in the dark about, as the aoidei had not told her about that specific event, but a blind man would probably be able to notice his unease right now. The haunted look in his eyes made her throat choke up.

But he had just said it was alright, didn't he ?

Her ears drooped a bit, inner conflict apparent. What was wrong with her ?!

"Do you.... want me to try to do anything with them ?" It was apparent what she was talking about. Him with his hair loose did not seem... right.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."My hair?" He seemed a little puzzled at first about the request, but then his thin lips pulled into a smile. "Certainly."

He had looked into the mirror just a little while ago, surprised by pale and sharp-angled face which had returned his inquiring gaze from the reflections. She probably felt just as disconcerted about his changes as he had been about hers. He looked like a ghost..

"I would be grateful even. They keep.. getting tangled."

Zero Dream
User ImageThe only answer she gave was a slow nod, and then she left, for a minute or so, coming back with a comb, a hairbrush, and a basket of assorted things, and slid back to sit on the bed behind him. He was indeed right about it getting tangled - that would need to be taken care of first, and at least she could do that - had grown to learn how to do it, especially with her now longer mane of hair. They'd been put up as she tanded to do lately, in order to retain easy freedom of movement, but when she did not it resembled more of a shifting sea than hair.

She was still wondering how to approach this, how to possibly not hurt him, and then it dawned on her. The recent failure was heavy on her, but he would probably... be a little more willing.

With a little knowing smile, she started to sing.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nergal relaxed visibly when the first soft tunes reached his ears, and settled into a more comfortable position, the hint of a smile on his face. His wings, which had been drawn closely to his back as if to protect it, slowly unfolded, filling the air with the cool, somber atmosphere of a crypt.

Zero Dream
User ImageThere. This was better.

She kept on singing, reaching for the comb to start detangling the mess that had formed. With hair so fine, it was no wonder, really. It did indeed feel like silk, just as she had expected - and now, for the first time in a long time, she finally felt truly at ease, truly happy. No fake smiles to pretend nothing was wrong, no need to put up a pretense and hope she would be strong enough.

Simple, beautiful happiness.

Working out the tangles did not take her long, and she was left to ponder once more. She did say she would do something with it, didn't she ? Too bad her hair related "somethings" where rather... basic. The hairs where a bit too short to put it up like she did with her own, but seemed long enough to braid. A zillion tiny ones would probably be better, but that was probably beyond her skills. Better keep it simple, or else she would probably make a mess.

So she parted it in three sections and, letting the comb down on her lap, began to braid.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The soothing melody of her song not only calmed his mind, but also helped to fade the voices of the dead from his attention. After a while Nergal's eyes fell shut as he enjoyed this simple moment of peace. The last time he had felt something akin to this.. His wings flicked, ever so slightly, and his smile deepened as he recalled that moment with surprising clarity.

Making up for a misunderstanding had never been so sweet.

Perhaps.. perhaps there were ways to make up for the long time they had been parted as well, for the suffering they both had endured from this. "I had a ring for you," he said quietly, not wanting to disturb her in her task. "I.. seem to have.. mislaid it."

Zero Dream
User ImageA ring ? This did make her wonder, but in the end...

"It is allright." In the end, a ring was only an object, a token - not something vital and irreplaceable. He was here, and it was all that mattered. All that mattered was that he was not suffering anymore.

She couldn't bear the idea that someone, or something, would do something so horrible, as it had to be for him to be so rattled, to begin with.

Her fingers worked at braiding - the links where pretty lose, as this was not something she was used to do - hopefully it would hold. While she did this, however, she slid, closer, closer, in despite part of her mind screaming that it was not a good idea, to whisper in his ear.

"You are here. It is the only thing that matter right now..."

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. She had stopped singing, but the tune was still echoed by her wings and the sensation of peace remained - woven into the air by the power of her voice.

The whisper startled him - just a little - the goddess suddenly close enough for him to feel her breath brush against his skin. His eyes snapped open, and he found himself face to face with her when he turned his head.

There was a good thing about him being so broken inside, for once instinct ruling his reaction instead of endless considerations of what was appropriate and what not. The gap between their lips was tiny and easy enough to bridge.

Zero Dream
User ImageAnd that completely caught her off-guard.

Her hands dropped down from the yet unfinished braid, her eyes widening into saucers before they finally closed. Something inside her screamed victory, and it took her a moment for her to actually figure out why. After she had, it seemed painfully obvious.

After all, how long had she been waiting for this ? Years. At least that was what seemed like. Some kind of acknowledgment beyond what words could carry. And now, she finally had it.

She finally had exactly what she wanted.

She leaned in, ever closer, accidentally knocking a part of the loose yukata from his shoulder. Oh well, that thing was distracting anyway.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Well, that hadn't been bad, not at all. Different from the one chaste kiss he had granted her after they'd both confessed their love for each other, uncertain of the fate and nature of his former queen. Beloved wife to him, chosen sister to her. Different as well from that other kiss, the one he'd never tell her about if it could be helped. Not ever.

A shiver went down his spine. If it was caused by the pleasure he felt now, or the horrors he recalled.. he couldn't tell. Do not think of it.

He shifted slightly - their lips parting - and brought up one hand to trace the curve of her spine, her neck, the back of her head.. Easily he found the large barrette she'd used to put up her hair and unclasped it, watching as her mane flowed down in a wave, moving almost as if it had a life of its own.

There, the game had started. He knew it well, remembered, even despite the Fading having taken so much from him. He'd had a wife once, and they'd played it often. This time, however, he knew he was destined to lose - as she was definitely wearing more items of clothing than he was.

Her turn now.

Zero Dream
User ImageIt was her turn to shiver now, at the feel of his hand wandering upward. Still so cold for her, no, probably colder than before, but it still wasn't uncomfortable. If she ever knew how to do this, she had forgotten a long time ago, but it seemed a bit obvious what game he wanted to play, and it suited her just fine.

Her smile turned a bit impish in the split second where he could actually see it. After that she had leaned downward, the tip of her nose traveling on his chest, knocking off the other sleeve. There. Even better.

It was a bit evident that she lacked experience, but she wasn't thinking enough to be embarrassed about it.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.He felt her tremble under his touch, wondering - for a moment - if it was his cold touch which unsettled her. A cold dead body, a corpse, a ghost attempting to make love to her-- He swatted those thoughts down quickly, as it became apparent soon enough that Echo was more than willing to continue the game, stomped on them for good measure. If there'd ever been a good time to simply stop thinking, this was it.

He leaned back, fingers searching the ornamental knot of the sash which held her robe in place, swiftly undoing it with nimble fingers. Knots, and weavings, and braidings, he'd always had a knack for those, it seemed. With a slightly mischievous smirk on his lips he grasped the ends of her belt, pulling her down with him as he let himself plunge back into the mass of blankets and cushions.

Zero Dream
User ImageAnd she followed, very willingly, very gladly. Oh, it was very easy to see - every bit of her, every pore basically screamed how badly she wanted this. And it was within her reach now, so close, so maddingly close...

She reached in for another kiss, and, at the same time, wriggled her hands downward, freeing what what left of the yukata fabric from him and discarding it to the side. She had very clearly won....

And she knew exactly what she wanted to do with her prize.

Thunderstorm In Paradise
Week of Lust

Unfairunfairunfairunfairunfairunfair

Her calm pretense held on until she had came out of Nergal's half of the shared house, and then she stormed off, ears pinned as far back as they would move and quite clearly upset. Tempo trailed her, asked what was wrong, but she ignored him, slid into her room, locked the door, and flopped down on her bed.

This couldn't be happening. She had only now gotten him back... Back from whatever he would not let her know a peep about. He was still quite visibly shaken by this. That she could deal with. She had, after all, promised him to never pry. Eventually, maybe, he would talk. Until then...

There was some part of her that was angry for all this, for this disturbance. Things where starting to feel right again. Things where starting to look up in despite the mess unfolding around them. She'd finally...

She'd finally gotten what she had wanted. Ever since he had come back, he had not looked at her the same way. She had noticed, of course. Like he'd only now realized she was a woman, not a child.

So close, so close

locked lips on lips

cold hand wandering downward and downward

Until...

It sent a shiver down her spine - she grumbled and shoved one of her pillows on her face. This was all well and good, but there was a big problem at hand here - something much, much bigger than her own little problems, than her wants and needs. More important, more worthy of focus. The wellbeing of all, of course, was much more important than her own wants and needs.

...But why did she feel like she did right now ? She shouldn't be. She should not be so upset.

And yet, she was. This was no behavior worthy of one of her station. She needed to calm down... calm down and let this pass. Hopefully it would, and she would be more focused later on...

For now, she should probably try to sleep, even if there was nothing to snuggle against. So new and yet it already felt like something was missing.

In Good Times As In Bad Times...
Week Of Lust

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nergal quietly went to fetch one of the blankets of his own bed, when it seemed his brother had drifted off to sleep. For a moment he stood, frowning at the messy and crumpled state of the sheets, cushions carelessly tossed upon the floor here and there. He hadn't noticed when he'd entered the room before to get the scepter, his thoughts too occupied.

What. The. Hell.

He stepped up to the bed, randomly picking one of the throws and pulling, the sudden movement stirring up several feline shapes, fleeing their lair with a chorus of protesting meows and growls and hisses. For a moment, Underworld remained frozen on the spot, a curse lingering on his tongue. "One of these days," he finally muttered grimly, cradling the plushy throw in his arms, "you will ALL end up as fodder for The Hound."

With that he turned, leaving the room while trying to retain as much of his dignity as possible.

He spread the blanket on Ankou's sleeping form, tucking it in some at the sides, and gently stroke aside a strand of fiery red hair before he left. He hadn't really said it, but he was grateful to have him around. Somehow his presence granted.. stability. An anchor of sorts, just as much as she did.

Back in Echo's half of the house, he hesitated. The door to her room was slightly ajar, but she might have gone to sleep in the meanwhile.. So he knocked, lightly, and waited for her response. If there wasn't any, he'd settle on the couch. He'd claimed her bed for rest much too long now anyway.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe had retreated back into her room after Illumin had gone, so she could at least be upset in peace.

This wasn't fair... this definitively was not fair. She felt horrible for feeling that way, for feeling to upset over something she knew needed to be done, but yet the thoughts would not leave her, kept on spiraling in her head.

He'd only just come back, it seemed. It had been what, a week ? And he was being dragged away again. He hadn't fully recovered yet.

But, no matter that reasons she tried to tack onto it, it all came back to the selfish ones. She wanted to be with him, spend time with him, alone, doing things they both enjoyed. Just some peace, so damn peace in all this !

Was that too much to ask ?!?

And yet... When had she became like this ? Sometimes... sometimes she did not recognize herself in her own thoughts. Most of all this scared her.

A knock on the door. She tilted her head toward it. "Yes ?"

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."So you are still awake," he said, gently. "I was hoping." He slipped inside, quietly closing the door behind.

Zero Dream
User Image"I couldn't fall asleep."

Thankfully the worst had passed. It was still a wonder she hadn't wound up screaming. She slid off to the side a bit, clearly inviting him to sit.

"So... Are you done packing yet ?" She had tried to make it sound like smalltalk, but there was an underlaying tone of sadness in her voice.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nergal shook his head. "I have not even started packing yet," he said, nesting at her side. "There is so much still to digest.. arrangements to be made to pass on information of that grigori's intentions if it is not yet known.. of our whereabouts.. And I do not think the body of the consort would be safe here during our absence either. Eamnon has a temple built, perhaps he could.." His voice trailed off.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe nodded, sliding a bit closer to take his hand once more. Well... she could at least have what little time she could manage to have before he left... right ?

That would have to do. But now what he was right there, right beside her, it was all too easy to be distracted again.

"That... would probably be a good idea, yes." She hadn't thought of that. Why couldn't she think of things like this instead of going off into childish tangents in face of a much bigger problem ? After all, if someone came... could she and the aoidei stop them ? "Safer than here, at the very least."

Was there even anything, anywhere left that was truly safe ?

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Their fingers intertwined, her warm, living flesh contrasting against his cold skin. "We also need to tell Cosine."

He didn't really want to talk about this, with her so close again. They still could work out the preparations for their journey tomorrow.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe was about to reply, but then felt silent. There was something odd here, with the way he was talking...

She hadn't even thought to ask. Echo remembered well that each and every time she had asked to come along, to help, the underworld god had always denied her, diverted her attention.... and honestly, she had always felt like she would be in the way. After all, what could music of all things do against all this ? This was a mess bigger than she could hope of shorting out.

But she was being silly again. No one could do anything alone, after all.

She tilted her head to look at him, quite honestly looking completely puzzled. Not the same kind of childish, adorable confusion she had sometimes put out before her full rebirth, but something more mature, a bit more serious. "...We ?"

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Mh." He nodded and raised her hand to his cold lips to breathe a kiss on it. "We have been parted more often than spent time together in this new life, and.. I admit I was not always fair, but I was concerned for your safety." He looked aside, avoiding the gaze of her eerie blue-blue eyes.

"But now.. You said it, it is not safe here any longer. Perhaps nowhere is. I cannot protect you if I am away from you. But.." He looked up, with an apologetic smile on his lips. "See, I am trying to make decisions for you again. But you are no inexperienced child, but a goddess in your own right." There was a surprising amount of respect in his voice. "I should simply ask. Would you come along with me this time? I.." He hesitated, but it was the undeniable truth that - without her care - there was no way of telling what state of mind he would be in now.

"I need you."

Zero Dream
User ImageShe was silent, for a bit - both the almost electric feeling from the kiss and confusion on what had just been said derailing her focus slightly. Had she truly heard that right ?

Well. That was certainly new.

She wanted badly, oh so badly to say yes. This would honestly solve a few problems - and she wanted to help so badly. But what if she wound up being in the way ? She was not experienced in such things.

But, would she ever know, if she never tried ? What good did it do her to discourage herself before even attempting ?

It was a risk. Was it not what life was made of ? Risks ?

She smiled, softly, nesting her head on his shoulder.

"As if I could refuse that."

I need you, too....

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Should she've had any doubts left if she'd just made the right choice, Nergal's grateful smile probably caused them to evaporate like mist in the morning sun. "We must plan," he whispered, planting another kiss on the back of her hand. "What to pack, whom to tell. A way to contact us if it need be."

He let go of her hand to search for the sash which held her robe in place, to undo the hastily tied knot. "Later," he added, his lips searching hers. He felt, in a way, as if he'd been thirsty for centuries, shriveled up and dried out like one of his mummies, the oasis which would quench that thirst in plain sight but unseen.

Or mistaken for a Fata Morgana perhaps, something which was too good to be true.

"I love you," he whispered, for her ears only, as he pulled the silken sash from her hips. "I love you," he said again, gently pushing her gown down her shoulders. I love you, I love you, I love you, he repeated in his thoughts over and over again, like a mantra. There might be madness within this, but for the time being, he was alright with this.

Zero Dream
User ImageShe had managed to be such a good little girl, too, in despite being so close. She was just about to speak, to continue on that train of thought, to say that, yes, plans needed to be made...

But it all seemed to evaporate from her mind the second he learned toward her, and reached for the sash. It unclasped easily, all too easily. And it was impossible to resist.

"Yes." She leaned closer, touching her nose with his own. "Later."

And then she wandered downward, locking lips on his own, cold ones. It did not bother her. If it had ever bothered her, it didn't anymore.

His own clothing came off equally as easily.

Leaving Again... With You.
Week of Lust / Greed

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Echo," he breathed quietly into Music's ear, followed by a light kiss upon its pointed end. He watched with amusement as it twitched and flicked as the sound of his voice and his touch disturbed her sleep. Quietly he nested on the edge of thei-- her bed, pale slender fingers trailing the shape of her naked shoulders. So, unlike his, her physical body still required rest, sleep. But, sleeping this long..

"Echo," he repeated, raising his voice a little, "it is noon already. You should get prepared and ready as well, take care of your affairs before we leave. I will help, if I can," he offered. His cold palm laid down on her shoulder to shake her slightly. This was unusual, he remembered, for her wake this late. Given, he might have had some lack of sleep to catch up upon after their nightly.. activities, but still.. "And I have a gift for you."

Zero Dream
User Image
She did not -want- to get up. The bed was warm, comfortable, and she felt so tired for one reason or another... The goddess gave a small mumble of protest as he shook her, one blue on blue eye snapping open.

"Nrrgh... Noon ?" He was right on that point, this was unlike her - she usually was up bright and early, even more so lately as, while she did still require sleep, she did not need as much as she once had.

Like it or not, he had a point - she needed to get up and get ready. There wasn't much she planned on bringing, but... Better get it done now.

Echo shifted to sit - if she noticed she was still naked, it didn't seem to bother her much as she pushed the sheets off. She didn't quite know where her dress had wound up this time, but didn't care and headed for her dresser. It needed some washing anyway.

What would be mostly unusual would be the wisps. While their presence was not unusual, the person they trailed was - Echo did not seem to notice. They where faint, but there, swirling around her wings almost lazily. They seemed to peer at Nergal curiously, some came closer than other but none went too far from the goddess as she rummaged through things to find what she'd intended to wear for this. Dresses, as much as she loved them, would probably wind up more bothersome than anything else, and this wasn't time for vanity to take over the practical.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nergal quirked a brow when he took notice of the wisps' presence. They were faint, just barely visible. But to observe them at all in broad daylight was highly unusual, and even more so for them to apparently have latched onto the 'wrong' deity. He wondered what might have attracted them to her. The harmonies of her wings, perhaps. Or maybe some of his 'sepulchural air' had rubbed off on her during last night's activities. The thought brought an amused smile to his lips during an unobserved moment.

"Echo," he said softly, politely looking elsewhere as she got up, though stealing a glance at her every now and then. He had.. never seen her so disheveled, he realized, there were even knots in the golden strings which trailed after her. She seemed tired, absentminded as she rummaged through her drawers, like she was still half asleep. "You need to wake up first. Go take a shower, I will ask Tempo to prepare tea and a small meal for us in the meanwhile."

Zero Dream
User ImageNot there.... not there.... not there either...

It took her a bit before she actually registered that she had just been spoken to, making her tilt her head sideway to look at him. She was definitivly, and without a shadow of a doubt, not quite awake yet, with some long locks of shifting hair trailing down onto her face.

Shower. That... indeed sounded like a good idea. "Hmn." Was the only answer he got, and she returned to looking through the drawers until she apparently found what she wanted, took both those items of clothing and a bathrobe and sliding through the room toward the door.

It was a wonder that she did not bump into anything with her eyes half-closed, but at the very least, the bathrobe was put on before she reached the door and slid out toward the bathroom.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.He pursed his lips as he watched the dazed goddess wander off, a little confused and definitely concerned about her wellbeing. Was she getting sick? Could their kind get sick, anyway? He'd never been, but then again he was tied as closely to the realm of death as any of their kind could ever hope to be without being Death himself. Or herself. Or 'it', he didn't have a clue.

Things might simply be different for Echo than they were for himself.

For a few more moments he kept staring at the door she'd left through. For some reason the sight of those wisps trailing after her kept bugging him. It was just.. too strange. In the end he shook his head and went to fetch Tempo, or another of the aoidei.

Late breakfast, some tea, and perhaps a cup of coffee for himself.

Zero Dream
User ImageIt took her awhile for her to come down to rejoin them - almost an hour - but when she did, she looked much better, still a tad bit tired-looking, but not quite so dazed. The knots had been worked out of her hairs and strings, which pretty much explained why it had taken her so long as is - she'd simply put her hair up in a ponytail and did not bother with the bun for once, and she was wearing something simple yet elegant, a white top with matching pants.

But, more importantly, the wisps where still there, and the poor goddess seemed downright embarrassed as she walked inside the kitchen and sat beside him. Now that she was actually awake, she realized that it hadn't really been one of her most shining moments. And he had been right there.

She, at least, seemed to notice him, and smiled. Wherever he had gone, well, he'd gotten dreads back out of it. While she had loved the feeling of his hairs, this looked so much more like him. The shaved part also caught her attention, but she didn't comment as she took a sip of her tea.

"Uh, I... Sorry about.... you know. I do not usually do that." That was true, she was never so much of a zombie when she woke up ! It was still embarrassing that he had been right there to witness it.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I wouldn't know," Nergal said to her with a small smile. "I do not think I ever had the pleasure to see you right after waking up like this. You.. could have some of my coffee if you wanted to? You do look like you could need it." He settled on the chair of the opposite side of the table, and slid a plate filled with freshly baked rolls towards her. There was plenty enough for both of them, but he didn't really feel hungry. Hadn't been for quite some time now.

"I asked Ankou to accompany us to the Pantheon when we leave, should he feel well enough." He did seem to have recovered some, but the host had been extremely cranky and complaining about a splitting headache. "I looked for Cosine, but she was nowhere to be found." He hesitated, the motherly affection Echo had showed for younger goddess having been quite obvious. "We do not have to leave today."

Idly he reached out for one of the little wisps floating about, their presence still puzzling him. Something.. didn't seem quite right about them, but he was unable to put a finger on what exactly. However, just before he could touch the small presence--

"Did you hear that?" he asked. "Feel that?" The wisp he'd been about to touch had fled out of his reach, he noticed, gathering with its companions within the vicinity of Echo's wings, as if seeking shelter there. He frowned. Why hers? Why not his?

Zero Dream
User Image"No, I think I will be okay now." She let out a giggle, reaching for one of the rolls. She would have do dump quite a bit of sugar in it before she could even find it tolerable, which would in turn probably ruin it for him. The cold water had worked well enough to make her at least able to function correctly, which was what mattered.

"Really ? Hopefully she did not go far..." Her worry was apparent. It wasn't safe out there, not that it had even been for awhile, but it had gotten even worse. Adrian, at least, was probably still resting on the other side and remotely safe and easily found if something went wrong.

She was about to say something.... but then it happened, sending a shiver up her spine. The wisps gathered even closer to her, where her wings met her body, giving the impression that she was aglow with how close they "clung" to each other. Things quite radically shifted. Her ears flattened all the way down, her eyes narrowed. What...

"Broken glass. And a trumpet..." She could quite easily what the sound where, identify them - but not what they meant. It nagged at her, but...

One of the wisps hesitantly broke out from the rest, as if nervous. She eyed it with a rather clueless look. Apparently... she had no idea what they where doing here, either.

"I've heard it before, that sound. Two times, I think? And each time.." He shook his head. It was hard to describe that sensation.

Instead he tried to beckon that one little flame closer. It had never posed a problem, but strangely enough, in this case.. his powers simply seemed to slip off.

Nergal frowned. This was odd, definitely odd. Perhaps.. perhaps the backlash from that machine had damaged his flow of mana somehow. He did not remember clearly what had happened back then, only the distinct sensation that something had been shattered. The idea was disturbing.

"You seem to have made friends," he said with a smile, but not entirely able to hide his confusion. "Any idea since when they have been with you?" He hadn't noticed a thing when he'd left her side early this morning.

Zero Dream
User Image"Yes, I know what you're talking about." Her ears where perking upward again, but the serious frown did not leave her pale face. "Something shifts, and everyone starts to act oddly in different ways." She hated this feeling. She hated it so much.

"I... have no idea." She reached one finger to idly poke at one, who simply curled around it in response. Now that the threat had faded, they seemed to break apart again and flutter about, curiosity born anew. "They where here when I woke up." And she certainly did not remember them there while they where.... busy. Their presence was mind-boggling, given that they where clinging to her and not him. If it had been the other way around, she probably wouldn't even thought twice about them.

The first one that had broken off (apparently the boldest of the little lot) flitted off toward Nergal, not due to any intervention of power, but by it's own free will - flitting a few inches away from his nose.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.He nodded. "As if they are acting out of their mind." Themselves being no exception, given their usual shyness and last night's.. activities. "Perhaps we can find out more when we are in the Pantheon. I would at least like to take a look before we leave."

"Pesky little thing," he murmured, staring at the one ghostly wisps which apparently had the mind to challenge him. It was strange, and the subtle differences would have impossible for him to describe, but it didn't even look right.

Carefully, trying to not scare off the little flame, he cupped his hands around it, eyes fluttering closed. Still, his powers seemed to slip off, but there was something familiar about the tiny presence, something.. divine. And most decidedly not. dead. On the contrary.

His jaw fell when he realized the true nature of the little lifeflames, and his eyes snapped open, almost immediately starting to count. There were.. how many? About a dozen?

"Echo," he stammered, and if it hadn't been for the color of his skin, he would have been quite pale. "These.. these are.."

Zero Dream
User Image"Yes, we should check on things." With his return, and well... the past week as a whole, she had all but forgotten to check up on things herself. Hopefully things would not have degenerated too much.

She was, however, completely knocked off that train of thought when she clearly saw his expression shift, eyes widen and jaw go slack. What... What ? Something quite clearly had startled him, and the little wisp wandering about zipped off, as if very proud of itself indeed.

They couldn't be dangerous... right ? They where kind of cute. And kind of felt some sort of... attachment to them, when she thought about it. "What ?"

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Not dead," he finished lamely. "Very.. not dead." How could that be? He'd never thought, never even remotely thought that-- And it was so soon, and there were so many of them!

No wonder they keep clinging to her, no wonder.

Zero Dream
User ImageNot dead.

That... didn't really explain much. At least, not to her, and the goddess was left as clueless as she was when she first asked. And he looked like he had seen a ghost. ...Figuratively speaking, of course. Maybe that wasn't supposed to be possible... ?

"So they're... different wisps ?" She subjected, equally as lamely, all the while looking completely puzzled and clueless. The idea of them being actually what they where had never crossed her mind, and still was not crossing it.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.He nodded wordlessly. It was obvious that she didn't understand what he had been meaning to tell her, but then again he hadn't exactly been clear about it. "In a way? These.. aren't ghosts at all. They are alive."

Zero Dream
User Image"...Ohhh." .....That still wasn't very clear, honestly. "They don't look all that different to me..." Maybe it was why they startled him ?

...That still didn't explain why they clung to her. Maybe Nergal felt too... dead for them ?

"...They are pretty cute." She whispered, wriggling her finger and watching the wisp attached to hit slide accordingly. "H-Hey ! That tickles !"

If they where alive, maybe they could hear what she was saying ? Maybe they would answer, too ?

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. His heart sank, and he shifted uncomfortably. She still didn't understand. "Echo, these are.. may become.. children. Ours. That last night had consequences."

Zero Dream
User ImageThis time, she understood. She stilled, and almost choked on the tea she had been drinking while watching that one little wisp do loops around her finger. Wait, what ? What ? He couldn't be serious, couldn't he ?!? Not there, not right now. This wasn't a world she wished to have children in. Not that the idea of children was a repulsive one, of course not, but the timing was just wrong, and... he probably did not like this, didn't he ?

"...I.... I see." A basic answer, but her body language was doing the talking for her - long pointed ears drooping to the side and the look of distress and worry in her eyes overtaking everything else. Her string-tail was doing sharp, back and forth, trailed by a set of innocent, seemingly very amused wisps, who did not seem to notice her distress in the least.

"We... We'll manage to make this work out, right ?" Blue on blue eyes wandered downward. "....Right ?"

They should have been more careful. They should have. But..... the idea had never even entered her mind. As if this kind of situation would only have been a mortal issue...

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of course," he said firmly, "of course we will."

He reached over the table, laying his hand upon hers. It was trembling, he noticed. "You seem unhappy," he said. "Why so? Is it not a reason to rejoice?" At least for him, it was. The shock of the discovery of the wisps' true nature was still quite evident on his face, but there was something else mingling into his expression - that he had just found something truly, truly precious.

"New life," he whispered quietly, in awe. That he might be able to help create thus never really occurred to him, which made it all the more wonderful.

Zero Dream
User ImageUnhappy. Was she ? It was really hard to tell. There where quite a few things swirling inside, emotions colliding with each other. Some conflicting. How did she feel about this, really ?

"No." She shook her head, as if trying to work out a daze. "...Worried." The timing wasn't right. What if they couldn't fix this - what if things got even worse ? What would she do, then ? What would they do, really ?

Maybe this was something she would only know once she would get there.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.He nodded solemnly. "Do you still wish to leave with me?" He hoped she would. More than anything he wanted her around now, where he could see her, touch her, watch over her.

Protect her.

Her and the children.

Zero Dream
User ImageShould she ? Would that be safe ? There was nowhere safe anymore, she'd come to that conclusion. Staying walled here would do her (them, she belatedly reminded herself - the thought was alien and somewhat strange) no good at all. She might as well follow.

"Yes, I will." She nodded.

She had to make this work somehow... for them. But she had no idea how.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."If you want to, we could still put off leaving for a day or so," he said thoughtfully. "Illumin and Eamnonn would understand, I think." Especially Eamnonn. Suddenly the urge to speak to the elder green god was overwhelming. Hunt was, to his knowledge, the only god so far to have sired children in this new age.

For a moment he pondered calling off the journey altogether. Give Eamnonn and Illumin the scepter, let them take care of things. But no. He shook his head. How could he even think such a thing? The scepter was his to bear, and he had accepted the burden back into his hands with all responsibilities and consequences that might come with it. Sanatruces. Aristogeiton. Whatever names he or she might bear, the fragments needed to be found.

"I have something for you," he said, figuring that now might be as good of a moment than any to give it to her. "It is but a small thing, but.."

Zero Dream
User Image"No, no." There was no hesitation this time. "We have already lost enough time, it seems." And who knew how much of it that had left. "I will.... I will be fine. I... did not see it coming, that's all. I just need to get used to the idea." Hopefully this would indeed get better in time. She had to focus, do her best to keep on going and do as she must

If only to assure them a decent future...

"A gift ?" She looked up from where her gaze had not left the floor since the "revelation", eyes curious.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Mh. It is but a small gift, nothing much. But perhaps it will make up a little for the ring I lost." By giving it to the wrong person. That.. grave mistake would haunt him until the end of his days. He wondered how the shapeshifter was faring. She hadn't been sane the last time they'd met, but neither had he been. "Hold out your hands, and close your eyes."

Zero Dream
User Image"I told you, there is no need to "make up" for that..." She answered, softly, before holding out a pale hand toward him, letting her eyes fall closed, and waiting. The urge to peek was hard to ignore, but she resisted the urge.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Something silky and soft was put onto her palm, light, with some larger object attached to it. The touch of it round and smooth, similar to wood - but not quite. A bead perhaps?

"You can look now."

It was bracelet, silvery strands woven into elaborate knots, a tassel and a small charm carved of bone attached to it. The charm was of a curious shape, somewhat resembling the wisps that hovered within the protective vicinity of Echo's wings.

Zero Dream
User ImageThe feel of the object immediately caught her attention, and it became even harder not to open her eyes to look at it. Her eyelids where fluttering, but she held until she was finally told she could look. Her gaze instantanously went downward, and her opposite hand went to follow the knots. She knew the feel, and she knew exactly what the silver strands where made from, glancing upward at him once more.

"I... That is beautiful. Thank you." And it was. It would be a reminder, something to keep her stable - if only because he needed her to be. She slid it on her wrist, the bead left to dangle on the side.

Thabara
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Mine, now. These were his exact thoughts when she fastened the bracelet around her wrist, how strange. This was supposed to be a gift, a token of his love for her, something more than a petty, man-made ring. Not something to mark her as his possession, a prize. How strange indeed, this wasn't like him. Even with all that had happened, this wasn't like him. Could it be ..?

"Well then, see to it that you pack what you need, take care of your affairs. I will help if I can."
