"I don't have a clue how to make fire, I don't tend to carry around the means. You know. Having wings made of paper and stuff." He was more than aware how flammable he actually was after the previous "fun" little encounter with the hunters. Still, he was allowing himself just a bit of barbed sarcasm due to stress.
As other people made to attack the tree, and the resulting Tangle, he stayed very firmly where he was. He was a paper pusher, not a fighter so he stayed right where he was, nice and safe behind the flimsy plant, with Al in the way of him and whatever chaos lay out there. Still it was worrying.
"I hope the .. " monsters didn't work as a word, Al was a monster and he wasn't scary in the least in Zar's eyes. "things.. don't start lingering around here."

Al bliiiinked in bafflement at the chaos of battle before him. Even watching the Tangle like a hawk as it stuck around. Poised to attack if it got too close but it very quickly perished.
"So much for that idea.." He uttered as he shifted to look behind the plant at Zar.
"At least they seem to go down very quick and easily." He replied, trying to offer Zar a small comforting smile.
"But, I can't figure out where they're heading or why and I'm starting to think attempting to stop them isn't the best idea. That was the plan I had anyway. There's no escaping either as they're blocking the route... should we fight too you think?" He watched Zar curiously, clearly intent to take any ideas or suggestions he may have on the matter to heart.

Zar gave Al a slightly incredulous look. "Fight? Do I honestly look like a fighter to you? I mean. Last time I tried to attack something, it went horribly wrong and I fell on my face. In fact. I'll even demonstrate how badly wrong it always goes if you like." he was still more than a little stressed out and for whatever reason, prone to just a smidgen more bravado than usual. As if he had something to prove.
So rather than let Al speak him out of doing what was clearly a pretty stupid thing, he got to his feet and left the safety of the plant, moving within range of the tree, though no closer than he had to be for this attempt to work and leaping into a jump he flapped both his wings in a powerful motion, using his best attempt to attack it.
...and magnificently fell on his face with a clatter of hooves and horns.

Al was left behind as Zar took off to launch an attack... well.. try to launch one. The result however was just... just... no. At first he looked stunned. Just standing there staring. But then he rushed forward to try and help Zar.
"Damn it Zar! Are you okay?" He tried his best to help Zar up... without LOOKING like he was helping him up. Bending over enough Zar could grab a horn, shoulder, arm, whatever if he needed it.
"You didn't need to try and prove you could back-flip, I already knew you could." He tried feebly to assist Zar in reclaiming SOME dignity by implying he had MEANT to do that because clearly he had. Clearly.

Zar was the very picture of ruffled indignity as he hurriedly tried to climb Al like a faun shaped ladder, leaning on his shoulder as he tried to untangle himself and rearrange his clothing. That had actually..really hurt, but he was determined to maintain his pride and not show it.
"Y.. yes yes, of course I'm fine I erm." he wiggled a hoof with a wince "I do that all the time."
There was very little confidence in his posture as he looked back at the little hiding place longingly.
Well that went well.

Al winced but tried to keep smiling as Zars perfectly manicured claws got into him to scrabble up into standing. Relaxing notably as Zar relaxed the hold once he was standing.
"M-maybe a ranged attack would be more to your liking?" He asked. Vaguely gesturing at the notebook.
"You could peg it with paper airplanes and paper rocks? At the very least attacking with it's dead relatives might shame them?" He honestly meant this. He didn't see it as much worse than attacking with ladies undergarments and paper /was/ the demons specialty after all.

Zar awkwardly cleared his throat. "Erh. Yes, had that worked it would have been an attack with my feathers. But I didn't even..dislodge any, just went face down." he had to fight the blush that threatened to overtake him. But Al was right. At least he had his notebook. Paper was the great comfort.
He held the notebook to his side like a security blanket, still wincing whenever he moved in certain ways, finding various muscles who seemed to be significantly offended and were filing complaints to head office.
"If I was any sort of demon I'd be able to turn the fool thing /into/ paper."

Al smiled genuinely at Zar as he moved over to face the tree.
"You can do it too you know. Just need to keep trying. Just cause you fall sometimes doesn't mean you shouldn't get right back up" He meant it. He had a lot of faith in Zar. Sometimes, more faith in him than what he had in himself. This seemed to be one of those times.
He drew a deeeep breath.
"Okay. I... I think I'm going to try and attack it again." He sounded clearly uncertain. Rocking his body ever so slightly in the trees general direction. He looked uncertain too.
He did this quite a few times. It might not even happen.

Zar gave Al a somewhat unreadable look for a moment over the rim of his glasses, it was hard to tell if it was sarcastic or genuine. "I'll have no limbs left by the end if I try that."
He did however, notice what Al was planning, frowning slightly. "If you get smooshed by it who in Jack's name will I hide behind?"

Al smirked glancing idly back at Zar. " Hopefully there'll be enough of my smooshed body left to make yourself a rug to hide under." He shot Zar a quick wink. He understood. He turned his gaze back on the beast. Lowering his head and then leveling his horns at it. That was just the boost he needed before charging head long at the tree and at the last minute chickened out a bit. Hitting it - but not nearly as hard as he'd hoped. Backing up he eyed the pitiful damage he'd made. Not the valiant opener he'd hoped for but it certainly wasn't the last the tree was going to hear from him as he brushed the dirt from his hair and seemed keen to try that again. Zar looked torn as he watched Al attack the tree, a complete mishmash of emotion, partially anxious that Al might get himself flattened, partially impressed that he'd managed to hit the thing and in addition to all this, pretty jealous that Al had managed to hit it. He ended up settling on the latter and crossed his arms looking nonplussed, still aching all over and now with no one to valiantly lean on.
He muttered to himself where he stood. "There probably won't even be enough left for a rug."

and then...
...the tree stilled and reverted to its former state. Once again, just an ordinary but festive looking tree. No movement. No enemies falling from its branches. Nothing.

Once the boil was clear, Poke dropped the wall, straighting up and rubbing her sore arms. "You guys are welcome, I'm just glad I could help you out" she returned the grin, then stood back as the cat literally turned into a fireball and launched itself at the tree
"Damn!" She exclaimed in amazement. It was a pretty interesting attack, considering the cat just lighted itself on fire. She wasn't aware cats could do that.
As to the boils complaints, she merely shrugged them off. "I guess it's a little nuts" She said to him. "But then, things are supposed to get hectic around this time of year..."
The dragon ghoul paused, watching the tree as it stopped moving altogether and became a normal tree again. She waited, just to make sure it wouldn't start moving again, before letting out a whoop of joy.
"HA! WE GOT THE TREE!" Thank Jack! She didn't want to be stuck with pine needles again. But as she stood there she felt a little uneasy...
"...Hey..." She turned to the boil and his cat again. "..I don't suppose you could burn that tree down?"

Al looked... well. Stunned. He could /swear/ he didn't hit the tree THAT hard. He shuffled back towards the tree to be near it. Staaaaring at it as if he expected it to "breathe" and give away it's status as more than just a tree. Frowning to himself he turned his head to gaze in Zars direction. " ...I... ...I think it's broken?" He asked more than anything else. Not sure if he wants to go as far as touching the tree just yet. Still... he held his hand out towards it, index finger extended. Inches from giving the tree a thorough poking. My HP - 30 Damage Dealt - 0 Collective Damage to Boss - ? Anything attacked/attackers should note - Al is considering tree-pokage

Zar was...utterly and totally stunned. It really looked like Al's attack had knocked the tree back to normal. He could only stare in blank shock as he tried to take in what he saw. "Did...did you..."
He did flinch however as he saw Al reach out to touch the thing, not trusting it at all. "Hey! Don't touch it, get away from it!" he couldn't even hide his concern as it all seemed a bit too convenient to him.
