Candace? Who was that? Scanning the faces for this hunter, Kat gave up after a few minutes. This would be so much easier if all the other hunters had also introduced themselves as well..Oh well, she would find out sooner or later--though she hoped for sooner. She would like to know who it was she was working with. Obviously another woman, as the name 'Candace' didn't appear to be that of a guys.

Hoping off of her chair, she was surprised that the death hunter leader left so suddenly. Were they to follow? Hesitating a moment, she followed after the large group of hunters trailing Caelius. She had to admit, she was a little nervous about this mission, but it was also somewhat exciting.

Following through the door, she was greeted with a wave of heat--something which she could get used too. She loved the heat! So warm and cozy..she could just pick a spot and curl up! Not that she would..she would no doubt cook. "The sahara..I've always wanted to come here.." Thinking aloud, she grinned at her luck.

Think we'll get to hang about after, and take in the sights?

:Yeah, but only if you want to be left behind.:

Her grin faded when she took note of the row of body bags. That was comforting.. Reaching for her own headset and mask--

Katherine?

Twirling around, her eye's locked onto the dark skinned woman she has seen before. Was this her partner? "Yes?"

Ryan lightly elbowed him and he suppressed an amused grin. “I’m always up for meeting new faces.” Then Wilson fell silent as Caelius announced the pairings. Once he heard his name he looked around the room for ‘Tika,’ but not before glancing at Ryan and smiling apologetically. “Good luck working with Caelius. At least you’ll have company.”

He gladly returned the smile. “No! It’s perfectly fine. Experience is more important, right?” he reasoned. Wilson tried not to laugh uneasily. Yeah, that was his division leader, lovely…Once the group strode onto the training fields the glowing door caught his attention first. The new trainee watched Caelius walk through without even batting an eye and disappeared. Wilson blinked. Was that a magical door? As he followed Tika through the door and suddenly found himself surrounded by a sea of sand, Wilson decided that yes, that definitely was a magical door.

Wilson obediently listened to the moon hunter’s instructions, but as she glanced inside the tent he couldn’t help himself from following her gaze. It didn’t quite register to him at first, but a few seconds later he gawked and hastily looked somewhere else. Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. He put on the headset and hesitated when it came to putting on the mask.

Dabir. I think it’d be a good idea to be a pair of goggles again. [Oh fine.] He left the eyewear hanging around his neck as he slipped on the mask and examined his surroundings again. “How do people move with these things on? Everything’s just a bunch of blobs,” Wilson mumbled.

Theeeere she was. Candace smiled and held a hand out, carefully balancing a headset and a mask on it. That was the set she had grabbed for Katherine. "Hey there. I'm Candace, looks like we're going to be part--"

WATCH YOUR BACK, KATHERINE. WATCH IT. SHE'LL BETRAY YOU. SHE'LL BETRAY YOU LIKE SHE DID ME. RUN NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

"...ners..." Candace sighed and rolled her eyes. Atropos. She can't hear you.

"Apparently the headset goes on before the mask. Want any help?" See, Caelius? See? Candace could be trusted. a*****e. "Man...even in the middle of the Sahara. This is nuts."

Sherry didn't know how to take the joy aimed at the Life Division, but she didn't really have time to think about it anyway. The Caelius guy started giving them the names of the trainee they would be working with.

Madison, Sherry repeated the name in her head and scanned the room. Which one was Madison? Before she had time to ask, everyone began to file out of the room. Sherry followed suit. She could find her partner later.

On the other side of the door, the first thing Sherry noticed was the warmth.

Really? Well, maybe you will get to be out in it later. The idea of a weapon liking the temperature was a bit odd, but she saw no reason to argue with Armagnac. Instead, she looked at their surroundings. Sherry was sure they were not on the island anymore. This heat, that sand...where were they?

When the Moon Hunter greeted them, Sherry's questions was basically answered. The Sahara Disaster Site? Sahara? Really? Wow, that door is something! It was then that she caught a glimpse of the inside of the tent. Were those....The Moon Hunter had talked about finding survivors. Non-survivors would have need of those bags. Sherry gulped.

I don't know, Sherry responded as she went to grab her mask and headset, it sounds more like a clean up type of deal. She did mention disaster. She didn't know if she was ready for Armagnac's type of fun just yet.

"Sherry? Is Sherry here?"

She turned at the sound of her name. There was girl near the masks, with light hair and a Life Hunter coat.

"I'm Sherry!" she waved a bit, to help indicate herself. "Are you Madison by any chance?"

Going through piles of bodies? In this heat?

Harrison fixed the mask so it wouldn't slip and then screwed in the headset. They should have had headsets earlier. Right now he would have killed for a respirator. It wasn't like he hadn't seen bodies before. He wished there was a forensics department to call in. Some branch of the Life department. He hoped these weren't Hunter bodies, but then he didn't know what kind of bodies he wanted them to be. Kids? Regular guys, just minding their own business? Maybe this was golems again. Some kind of test. It had been all testing up until now. Why not?

50%. 1 out of 2. He found himself looking harder at his soon-to-be-partner.

"Yeah, well," he grumbled at Candace. He hadn't come in with the last group of trainees, and he hadn't woken up with the brand new ones either. Oldbie, Newbie, he didn't know. They were all trainees.

And Caelius had paired him up with the guy that laughed when other Hunters caught on fire. Great.

"How's it going," he said flatly, not really asking. "Getting it done sounds good to me." He shuffled his weight, waiting for the Moon Hunter's response.

The Moon Hunter attendant tapped their earpiece. "Yes Sir?" The tone was all but exasperated as she scanned and pinpointed the cluster of trainees that were not mingling in pairs. "Okay, I'll see what I can do." An audible sigh. "If you don't have a group partner can you come up here next to me? Everyone else just... hang tight okay? And please, put your mask on and then the earphones not vice versa."

Jerry shifted where he stood by the superior hunter, looking increasingly hot and nervous, but he hid it with a wide, enthusiastic grin. "So... um... um... this is... very interesting, huh?" He glanced anxiously to the others who hadn't been assigned groups. "Should we be putting on gasmasks as well?" There was something nerve wracking about them. If they put them on... would they be able to take them off again?

Of course. He was being silly. But all these new wakees were bringing back bad memories.

::...And so that's why you shouldn't feed an elaphant a dandelion while it's on a tight-rope. :: Volt was laughing in her head, amused by his own joke. His very loud, static-like chuckles had drowned out most of what the man, Caelius had been saying.

Including to introduce yourself to him.

Vanessa only realized this when he was listing off names. She frowned, a slight twitch in her eye from Volt's constant chattering, as she realized she had not provided a name to be called by, and thuse ended up in the unnamed category. The category that would be accompanying Caelius. The statistics of survive - a part of his explanation she had heard - suddenly didn't seem like a one in two chance anymore, not with her new assignment.

She noted that Jerry, the bazooka(?) slinger, had approached the Death Division's leader and inquired what to do. Ryan was there too, and Eva soon joined them. Vanessa followed, soon reaching the small group that was forming. "I'm with you guys." She said, nodding to her fellow Epsilon, the bazooka holder, and the one she'd realized was a medic. Every time she saw the red-cross on his arm, she felt a slight pang of pity, knowing that usually everyone tried to kill the medics off first. Well, if they were a team, she'd do her best to help keep those around her alive.

Apparently their mission was in a desert. She remembered the strange portals from her trial, and managed to keep herself from being surprised by them. She followed after her group and Caelius, wondering if she should approach him and introduce herself, even though she would be late in doing so. However, the Moon Hunter was calling them over. Vanessa moved faster this time, her own drive moving her over. She raised a hand quickly, a signal to the Moon Hunter that she didn't have a group. She spoke, saying just as much, "I seem to be missing a group partner. My name is Vanessa Arrian, of the Life Division." Yup, Vanessa was making up for not telling Caelius her name in the most efficient way possible, by telling one of other authority figures instead.

She took one of the masks, holding it hesitantly. She didn't want to put it on right away if they simply would be taking them off or had a different job waiting ahead of them. "Do you want those who have no partners yet to do the same?" She asked before she realized Jerry had asked the same thing, holding up the mask slightly so the Moon Hunter would know what the readhead was talking about.

Before should work on developing a filter between his brain and his mouth. But, well, he hadn't personally had a run in with Caelius and based on what Dr. H has put him through, getting into mortal peril seemed terrifying in just a different way. The weird thing though was that the Death Hunter wanted to meet him post-mission, which suggested Caelius was expecting him to survive.

"YESSIR!" he was enthusiastic about it ; 3; Boss-Dude-Caelius had f-faith in him~ /)*A*/) Before was now more determined to survive. But not at the expense of his buddy. Who happened to be a Lifer 8DDDD

"Hiiiiiii~ The name's Before, not Milton," he introduced. "But uh, I might not make it past what Boss-Dude-Caelius has planned for me so, uh, yeaaaaaah~ Hiya fellow Lifer," he sheepishly scratched the back of his head as he gestured they follow after Caelius into...

Holy ******** s**t it is hot x.x He wasn't bugging out over teleporting, not after Clarice's explanation on the power of the pendants. It was just... The whole setup did not bode well. Like most of the others, Before took a headset and waited for Tori. "By the way, I'm also something of a meat-shield so feel free to shove me in between yourself and whatever wants us all in bodybags." the cheer in his voice as he says this seems so natural for him.

Before may not be all that right in the head...

The group of 4 whom had no partner soon turned in to a group of five, something she had noted as the other woman approached. Giving a brief nod to Vanessa, not offering a name in return just yet.

Tuning out the sword, which was something that was becoming increasingly difficult, she ignored his bantering in the back of her mind.. only a brief eye twitch showing she was annoyed. Gripping the mask and headset a little tighter, she looked up towards Jerry, whom seemed to be the experienced one of the small cluster of hunters. Yet he seemed a little nervous? Maybe she was just reading his body language wrong...

"Seems Caelius is either bad with names, numbers, or he has a reason for a larger group.." She thought out loud hoping it really was not the latter, looking nervously around herself. Why would they need a larger group when.... what was inside those bags exactly?

Ryan obeyed the woman's request and picked up a mask and headpiece, before he moved over to stand beside the female hunter. Apparently there were a total of four others who had not been assigned partners. Though only one was not a 'hatchling.'

Jerry.

He watched the older man from the corner of his eye, relieved to see that he had calmed down since the incident in the hallway. Which, judging by the shocked expressions from the other trainees, was probably a rare thing. Now..? Now the man just looked nervous.

"I guess so... too much sand though and its hot..." He answered, waving at Vanessa as she joined their little group and began to put on his equipment. Careful to put the mask on first, before equipping the headset, as the woman had instructed.

Ryan hated hot weather. If he had to choose between the two, he preferred colder climates.

:At least its not humid.:

Eva had been fanning herself with a hand, but this soon turned to waving once Vanessa made her way over to the group. So that made five of them who were presently lost and confused. Like the others, she looked to Jerry--the most experienced of their group--for guidance or hints on what they should do. The poor man seemed nervous, and honestly, she couldn't blame him. It would be one thing if they were expected to sit to the side uselessly and look pretty, but another if Caelius actually had something specific in mind for them.

Dear god, she hoped not. She could hardly even wield her weapon without losing her grip and nearly impaling someone's foot.

You'll be fine, Eva.

Tell me that again when I accidentally lose my grip and have you go flying in Caelius' direction next time. If he's touchy with his hair now, I don't know how he'll feel about having a buzzcut. When Chara didn't respond, Eva decided that she had made her point and turned back to focus on the others.

"I guess we'll fine out what we're doing soon," she murmured to Ceres and Ryan before eying the headset and masks. She was still waiting on their superior's answer, but while it would be nice to ensure a way from keeping the sand from being blown into their eyes, Eva didn't want to wear anything that would make her hotter than she already was. It was already uncomfortably harder to breath with the heat.

Oh right. It would probably be a good idea to get the mask on. Looking it over for a moment or so, Deryk placed the item on. The sudden shift in vision was a bit jarring in the very least. He could see the heat signatures of his fellow Hunters, but not really much of anything else.

"Woooaaah. Thermal vision. Nice. Always wanted to see what wearing one of these was like, and here I am! Wonder if we'll get night vision goggles at some point too. That would be sweet. Yes."

Though, this did make moving around a little trickier. That was for certain.

After staring at this or that through the mask, he finally went ahead and put on his headset as well. For now, the low survival rate was forgotten as he was too busy basking in how awesome things were at the moment. The fact that there appeared to be no imminent danger likely led to this.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 17, 2011 6:29 pm

Her gaze shifted from the hunter's face to the mask and headset she offered to her in hand, smiling, she reached over and took them into her own. "Thanks. Nice to meet you, Candace. You can call me Kat if you prefer..?" A little baffled over the woman's sudden pause, she decided to just ignore it. No point asking about it anyways. "Looks like."

"Headset first, mask after. Got it." Sounded easy enough--

And please, put your mask on and then the earphones not vice versa.

"Er..I guess its the other way around then, huh?" Letting loose a nervous laugh, Kat rubbed at her arm. If she struggled with her mask and headset, she would definitely be asking for her help to put them on. But so far it seemed easy enough. "I think I'll be okay--If I get tangled in this, I'll be sure to let you know though." Snickering she moved to put the mask on.

"Have you had any other missions like this before?"

When Caelius left, she simply followed, although what was on the other side of the odd door caused her to twitch - she hated the heat. She would rather go into icy waters than stay here for any longer than needed.

"Dakota?" She raised an eyebrow, looking around till she found the source of the voice that had called out her name.

'We'll know in a bit, won't we?' She mentally retorted before grinning at the new recruit, extending out a hand, "I'm Ariane. Looks like we'll be partners for this little mission..." She trailed off, grabbing her equipment and putting them on, adjusting the mask so that it was as comfortable as possible; although it was still not very comfortable at all.
