Almost through with their second lap, Gloria tapped Ardelle on the shoulder and pointed towards the Temple entrance. Somebody was standing there at the door, apparently waiting to be greeted. The girls jogged up the beach and onto the path, Gloria calling out as she drew close. "Hey! You need any help, guy?"

"You can just go right in, if you want," the pink-haired priestess, at that moment unrecognisable as one in her running bottoms and loose vest top, said in her usual cool tone. "But if you need directions, we'd be happy to help."

~~~~~~~~
The elves settled down at their usual places in the (empty) canteen. All was not quiet, however - the kitchen staff were hard at work as usual. Steam, smoke, the sound of food sizzling, the yowling feline language and the occassional crash came pouring out through the hatch into the seating area, as it did each other day.
"I suppose everyone must still be asleep," said Jessie, "Rika, too."
"Oh, I don't know about that," smiled the high priestess, coming up behind them both, accompanied by Adeline. Both of them were still wearing their attire from the night before. "Actually, we haven't been to sleep yet."
"We've been cleaning the place up," the fair elf explained, carrying a roll of fabric strewn with dismantled decorations in her arms. "I think everything's good as new now. Omigosh, I love what you've done to your hair, Cressa!"
"Oh wow, yeah, I love it!"
Sick of her usual 'do, Cressa had managed to turn the long, front section of her hair into two big, gentle curls that hung softly down onto her collar by the time Jessie got out of the bath. She looked extremely pleased with herself at the compliments. "Thank you! I just felt like a change today. And since it's not long enough for an updo..." User Image
"Will you sit down and join us for breakfast?" Jessie inquired, just as a frazzled-looking Oz came over and planted two plates piled high with bacon and mushrooms in front of him and Cressa. "Ah, thank you, Oswald."
"Of course! I'll just have some toast, Oz."
"And I'll have my usual fruit selection. Careful!" Adeline squeaked, catching hold of the boy as he stumbled over his own feet.
"He could do with some dance training." Cressa snickered as he scurried away.
"Everyone who hasn't had dance training could do with some dance training."
"Oh god, please, no more talk of dancing... if I couldn't heal myself, my feet and legs would be sore for weeks!"
"Considering the very... energetic dance I saw you doing with Xeiashi," Jessie said, faintly smiling, "I'd think that to be normal."
Light filtered in from outside the balcony. The curtains around her bed swung back and forth in the breeze, allowing the smell of the sea to gently rouse the girl from her sleep. Rubbing her eyes, the girl sat up in her bed and stretched. Her sandy-brown bangs covered her left eye completely, so she adjusted them so they just skirted her eye. She took notice of a book that was open at the foot of her bed.
"That's right," she said to herself. "Last night I attended the party..."
Things hadn't gone as well as she would've liked, however. As fun as the night was, she'd gotten in a small scuffle with a patron who happened to, shall we say, have one too many. Thankfully no one heard over the noise of the party, so she'd gotten off scot-free. When she'd had enough of the excitement, she returned to her quarters to work on a song she'd started formulating in her head. She'd fallen asleep in the middle of composing the song.
Picking up the book at the foot of her bed, she read some of the notes on the page. The notes were coming back to her. The girl considered working on it some more, but the sea breeze was calling her. Putting the music book back on her bed, she put on her slippers and stepped out on the balcony to gaze out at the seascape. The day was absolutely beautiful, so beautiful that immediately upon seeing it, she felt inspired, invigorated. The girl ran over to her bed and picked up her book, running out of the room and down the stairs.
Glee had already been awake for some time. She estimated it to have been an hour at least. She sat in the TV area enjoying a cup of tea she'd previously made in the kitchen earlier that morning.
"My, my, it's such a pretty day today," she said to herself. "I think I might take a stroll on the beach later this afternoon..."
Atlae had not anticipated being addressed from behind, so it had given him a small scare. Although turning around seemed to be better than he hoped. Two women about his age had called to him. One was like he had never seen before, with pink hair flowing all around her.
He looked over at the darker tanned girl with short hair. "Yeah lady, I'm not from around here, and I was curious. Is this the Temple that I have been hearing about? There seems to be stories about it and I was wondering if I could find out the truth for myself." He said trying not to seem too rude, but adding subtleties to his words in response to being called "guy".
Then he looked over to the pink haired woman with an unseen smirk "I didn't want to intrude on somebodies private property, especially if this isn't the place I'm looking for. So going right in just didn't feel like the right thing to do."
At the Order, the staff - and most others - had 'hospitality first, suspicion later' drilled into them pretty firmly. It was practically one of the tenets of the organisation. However, this had often fallen by the wayside during times of crisis... having been embroiled in more than their fair share of warfare, it was not uncommon for enemies to come sniffing around.
But these were not the old, insular, wary days. These were the new days. The enemies were gone. Strangers and townsfolk and vacationers came poking around the Temple all the time. This man was no different, and he seemed polite enough. Gloria nodded at him. "Yep, this is the place - the great big, white, glassy, cathedral-lookin' place on the rock. But if you're here chasing rumours, you might be surprised."
"Depends on the rumour being chased," Ardelle added quietly. Her bright, pink eyes were fixed on him. She had an intent way of looking at things. Adventure-hardened. Occassionally, it could shift to weariness. "Please excuse us, for we are the ones intruding upon your search. I am Ardelle, a priestess of the Order. I could escort you inside, if you desire a guide."
Andreas jumped off of the boat as it was ran ashore, landing in the sand with a smirk, his eyes shifting across the landscape. Behind him, Aloisius stood still in the boat, his leg propped up on the side, he smiled as well, but his was a whimsical one. Armin was silently lamenting over how his brothers were making him abuse the Harper’s boat.
“Rey,” began Armin, addressing his eldest brother, “you will be kind to her, right? You know she’s scared of you.”
Andreas looked back at his brother and withheld his eye roll. “Yes, I’ll be…pleasant.”
Armin looked relieved, but Aloisius had his doubts. Andreas give up a chance to torture one of the Harper girls? Didn’t seem likely. However, Aloisius kept this to himself and kept silent as he hopped off the boat. Armin quickly followed. This would be interesting.
Evelyn pulled herself from her book long enough to glance at the clock. “Oh! That late already?” she said, to no one but herself. She closed the book and got off her bed, spinning in a circle as she exited her room and pranced up the steps and headed for the Canteen.
Inside, she saw Lorika, surrounded by many of the other staff members, and couldn’t contain herself. She skipped over and tapped Lorika’s shoulder, and began a happy rant.
“OHMIGOSH, LORIKA, I am reading one of the best books I’ve read in a long, long time. It’s called ‘The Hunger Games.’ Oh, it’s so wonderful. The author, Suzanne Collins, LOVES to write about the effects of war on teenagers and young adults, and OMIGOSH, it’s just so good. There’s this boy named Peeta, and I’ve completely fallen for him—oh, I’m rambling.”
Evelyn ended her rant, rocking back and forth on her heels, to keep from exploding into another. Oh, literature, the things you do to me.
Conversation at the staffmembers' table fell away as Evelyn raced up to them and exploded.
It was hard to even catch what she was ranting about. After she finished, the silence held firm. In the absence of any movement or words, Cressa chewed her mouthful, and swallowed.
Jessie was the first to return to normal activity, demurely resuming cutting up his bacon, expression completely neutral. Adeline followed, popping a cube of melon into her mouth.
"Good morning to you too, Evelyn," said Cressa. Unable to help himself, Jessie suddenly burst out laughing at her tone. He brought up his hand to cover his mouth, trying to stifle it.
"That sounds wonderful, Evie," Lorika smiled. She shot a sharp look at all three of the elves. Both Jessie and Adeline had doubled up with repressed, shaking laughter, while Cressa reclined smugly in her chair, smirking at the effect her little tease had had. "Doesn't it?"
"Oh, yes!" Adeline piped, "Wonderful!"
"Yes," spluttered Jessie, apparently biting the insides of his own cheeks. He quickly cut another piece of bacon and stuffed it in his mouth. "Wonderful."
"Sounds FASCINATING. However, I trust this is what you've been reading after the chapters on intermediate spellcraft I assigned you?" Cressa said, managing an over-the-glasses look at her pupil without any glasses. Leaning back lazily in her chair, she popped a piece of mushroom in her mouth and waited like an expectant feline for her reply.
Evelyn stayed perched on her tip-toes, trying to figure out what the big joke was. Oh well. In this situation, Gilroy would usually tell her...oh, how she missed her best friend.
When her teacher addressed her, she blinked four times, rapidly and then remembered what she was talking about.
“Oh, of course! I reread that before the party last night. I found Carter’s theory on pyromancy to greatly contradict what we already learned about it from Valjean. Oh, course, that’s just me. I trust almost anything Jean Valjean says.”
Cressa continued to watch her carefully for a couple of moments after she finished her second garble of the day so far. Then, she turned her attention back to her plate, picking up her knife to cut into her meat. "Hmm," she murmured, "Nerd. OW!"
Jessie had apparently kicked her under the table, for she quickly corrected herself. "I mean - good student! Excellent student. Keep doing what you're doing. Mm, yes. Wonderful. Of course, I already knew you were going to say that, as overachieving and attentive as you are. Yes. Very good."
"Are you going to grab some breakfast and join us?" Lorika asked kindly. With a wave of her hand, a fifth chair flew from another table a few feet away, coming to rest neatly between her and Cressa.
"Well I don't mean to be rude" He said looking back over to the girl talking to him. "but I've heard more strange things then I have of anything normal, however I don't place too much trust in rumors. It more or less peaked my curiosity that there is a place where I may further my teachings."
"You are not intruding on anything Miss." He said to the quieter woman. "In fact, I'm grateful for your hospitality. I would be honored if you would give me a tour. Excuse me though, the rumors being chased were nothing more than gossip I hope, but lead me to this place. So think nothing of them." He said with a slight bow to her.
This was the place he was looking for, and he found by accident a lot faster than he thought he would. It was luck, and he was sure that his parents would be worried about him. However, if he could get all the information he could about this place, then they will leave him alone. So it was imperitive to him that he not upset anyone.
"Don't worry about it, we aren't offended," the priestess replied gently, "Whatever has led you here, you're here now, and you're very welcome amongst us. I'll see you later, Gloria," she said, giving her friend a quick, comrade-ish clap on the shoulder.
"Alright," she answered, returning the gesture, "Take care. Hey! I'll see you around, maybe. Have fun!"
Gloria addressed this last part to Atlae, giving him a little wave and a smile, before turning and jogging back down onto the beach. Ardelle stepped towards him and gestured for him to step aside, after which she took hold of a handle and pulled one of the double doors open.
As they entered the gigantic, sweeping main hall, with its impossibly huge, domed ceiling that looked out onto a sunny, blue sky, Ardelle kept beside the man - not close enough to be threatening or uncomfortable, but allowing for quiet, personal conversation. The water from the wall-mountain fountains beside the altar splashed into the arched pool; a soothing, natural background noise. "If you don't mind me asking - you mentioned that you might be able to further your teachings here. What exactly are you looking to improve?"
"Thank you for welcoming me." He said with another bow. It annoyed him a little how bowing was his natural reaction, but living in a "Proper House" had left it's mark.
"Maybe indeed, I'd like that" He said with a wave to see her off.
Inside the temple was more extravagant than he had imagined. The intricate details about the foyer intrigued him, but nothing more so than the indoor water fall. He stared at it for just a second before the woman started talking. "Well, in my past I was able to take up a number of teachings. Sword fighting was the main focus of my studies for self defense and as well as a form of controlling my movements. However I was also taught some basics in magic, mainly in enchanting weaponry. I would like to be able to expand on that, as well as branch out into other teachings" He replied trying to answer her the best he could.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:24 am
Ardelle seemed impressed by this. "Ahh... well, I'm glad to say you won't be disappointed. Enchanting and combat are two of our specialties here. Much of what you see around you in here is the product of complex enchantments."
She gestured up at the ceiling. "It would be impossible for this to exist inside if not for magic. We also have many indoor windows that look out onto landscape. It can be a little disorienting at first, but it's very nice. You honestly can't tell the difference from the real thing... as you can see."
"Yes I could see that from looking around. I'm glad that I heard right." He said following her gesture to look at the ceiling. "However I think I will be just fine here, It isn't my first time in an enchanted building. It is very beautiful though."
He began looking around once again. This place had seemed, of course: to be bigger from the inside than from the outside. "So what else is there to this temple?" He asked, hoping he wasn't trying to be rude by rushing along
PostPosted: Fri Dec 30, 2011 12:02 pm
"Well, quite a bit, actually. It's a large place. We have a map of the ground floor over here, if you'll come back this way..." she entreated, moving back towards the entrance. Hovering just beside the wall there next to the entrance - a little inconspicuosly, actually, for anyone who didn't know it was there - was the announcement board... or something resembling an announcement board that might be used in a futuristic spacecraft. With a gesture from Ardelle, the circular, mirror-like object obediently floated forward to meet them.
On its "neutral" screen, it displayed a table of general scheduling for the day. Most of the events, including morning prayers, drills and classes, were emblazoned with the message CANCELLED, which seemed to shimmer and float slightly in front of the "screen." Ardelle stabbed her finger at the tab reading FLOOR PLAN, and the table was replaced with an annotated map of the ground floor.
"As you can see, there are chambers for the magicians, the library, the music room, the enchanting center... there are three other floors, including the basement. We house many of our members, but others commute," Ardelle patiently explained.
"Unfortunately, I won't be able to give you much of a tour without permission. Visitors are only allowed in the main hall, the lecture theatre during public lessons, and the medical center when receiving care or visiting an inpatient," she continued sternly. She might have sounded like she was reciting from a Big Book of Rules, but Ardelle was just a stickler for discipline.
The floating announcement board surprised Atlae at first, but he was more intrigued by it, and what was on it, then by the fact that it was magical. The map that appeared on it's glossy surface was very informative.
"Well, I'm not too far away, We- I'm staying at a beach house down the beach. So commute wouldn't be a problem." He said studying the map and seeing all that it had to offer.
"Oh, no worries, I have no intention of impeding. In honesty, I hadn't even planned on being here this shortly after moving. However, I would like to get an appointment to get permission. It would be an honor to have a look around the temple and possibly enroll here." He added a tone at the end that seemed to question the words he was using. This place seemed more like a school than a temple to him, so he didn't really know how he should proceed
