He'd gone up a lot of steps, through a lot of damage, and he was breathing hard, and getting tired. But beyond that was the buzz of adrenaline, the familiarity of the uniform, and the knowledge that every second could be one second too late.

Harrison burst up the last step, the last shred of needles, with sweat pouring down his forehead and through his shirt. He reached out, and looking down the line of tunnels and conveyer belts, yanked the lever.

The lever moved and all at once, it was like the fog had lifted and Harrison saw the light... Except with a lot less desu, and a lot more blood and sweat and forced laughter. The sound of gears turning eventually became softer and softer till it died out completely. With that, it was as if everything else in the building was shutting down; the lights dimmed, the stairs behind the now bloodied hunter became flat ground again, the conveyor belt slowed to a halt and why are you still reading this flavor text.
The tunnel of feathers dissipated to reveal the two hunters that had been held captive. The mechanical legs that had previously held them down had also vanished, along with their bonds - Harrison had saved them from death by laughter.
For now, perhaps they should rest up... There was no exit in sight, after all.

The conveyor belt stopped, and Candace nearly panicked. This was it. They'd reached the end. Whatever was holding them down apparently released them and she just sat there, breathing heavily and whimpering. She couldn't believe that happened. What the <********> just happened. Candace bit down on her lip, and the moment her body was no longer bound to Jerry's she keeled over and curled up on her side, her arms moving to curl over her head as she curled until her knees were against her chest.
It hurt. Everything hurt. Her jaw, her throat, her lungs, her chest, her stomach, her sides, her head. Her pride. And she was so tired. She laid there, panting and trying to cover up the fact that she just wanted to lay there and cry. She almost laughed to death. How pathetic could she get? This was humiliating! ...Candace? No answer. Candace, it's alright. I don't think less of you. Shut up. Atropos sighed but did as Candace so..politely asked.
Candace was so glad it was just her and her teammates here. No one else, especially not Caelius or Dr. H, had to see her lose her cool. If anyone else had to know even Candace had her breaking point and was scared of failing at something enough to cry.

Jerry did not flail. The moment the bonds vanished and the tickling stopped, the man simply fell backward beside Candace, gasping like a beached fish. His eyes, (glasses somewhere, hopefully, but not on his face,) were glassy and distant, a faint, wobbling, keening noise escaping his throat.
There was sunshine and red flowers on scrubby bushes and they were on the beach, maybe it was the Hunter Island, he didn't know, but there was a beach ball and Candace was in a little bikini and Harrison was building a big sand unicorn and Jerry had a ukulele....

In spite of the sweat, the blood, and the condition his uniform was in, as the environment changed (stairs disappeared, conveyer belt gone), Harrison rushed through the gloom and dim to his partners' sides. Candace moved, slightly, but didn't talk. Jerry didn't move or talk.
"Candace," he said, shakily, taking out his flashlight again to make bright, frantic spotlights on her hands and face, looking for marks, blood. He touched her, making sure she was still whole and not tied up. "You awake?" He moved his hands and the light to Jerry next. "Is Jerry still alive? We gotta get out of here. s**t, what did they do to you guys? Nothing's broke, is it?"

As Jerry landed on her side she grunted but didn't do much else. Harrison touched her and she whimpered, curling up even tighter. No! She didn't want them to see her like this! She didn't exist anymore! She was too pathetic! But at his question she gave a slight nod, biting down on her lip. She was so ashamed of herself. She couldn't face them, especially not with a light shining on her. A big, large spotlight highlighting her failure and showcasing her vulnerability. She wasn't bruised or banged or scratched but she was covered with feathers and her body was sore in every place it could possibly be.
Wait. Is Jerry alive? What the hell kind of question was that?! She opened her eyes and peered up at the two men through a space between her arms, eyes wide. Why did Harrison have to ask if Jerry was alive? Why? No. Nonono. He couldn't be. No. There was no <******** way he was dead. She rolled onto her back, letting Jerry fall onto her lap now with panic in her eyes. "J-Jerry?" She leaned back with one hand behind her to keep herself sitting up, the other hand placed on his forehead and pushing his hair back away from his face. "Jerry? Jerry, wake up! Come on, Jerr-bear. There's no way you could have died from that. Please, Jerry. Wake up!" Candace bit down on her lip and shook her head at Harrison's questions.
"Just...just feathers everywhere. But it was awful! We couldn't breathe and it hurt and...I feel so stupid." Candace frowned harder and adjusted her position to sit more comfortably with Jerry on her lap, patting his cheek. "I..I think it's time to bandage up a bit..."

The man's eyes rolled, face stark white in the light of Harrison's flashlight. His trembling lips parted, mouth moving slowly at first as his voice somewhat returned in a whisper. They moved again, voice a little louder this time... "... and we'll had fun fun fun 'till daddy took the T-bird awaaaay..."
Definitely not dead.

His lips were moving! Thank god! Candace held her breath, waiting for him to make some kind of sound or a much more notable action. Lip movement could be a muscle spasm! But then he spoke, and it was...really ******** stupid. Her breath left her in a laugh, one of relief this time, and she pulled him up for a hug. This hug inadvertently pressed Jerry's face into her bosom but hey. Details. Who needs them?
"Don't you scare me like that again you idiot!" Candace cried, burying her face into the man's hair on top of his head.

Jerry would have appreciated the gesture had he been more coherent. As it stood, the man was in rough shape, head lolling against the embrace as he continued to mumble the song under his breath before wobbling to blink up blindly at her face. "I think... I lost my glasses..." He managed, oblivious to them poking out of his coat pocket as he slumped against her.
At least he had stopped singing.

Of all the things he could have said in that moment, him losing his glasses was not something she was expecting. Candace blinked, lifting her head enough to look down at the man. That was all he was concerned about? That he lost his glasses? She frowned. Idiot. "...Jerry..." She sighed, hugging him again and rocking gently with the man. Wait a second..what was poking against her? She paused a moment and just stared. "Jerry. You little--" Candace glared down to see what was poking at her.
...Oh. His glasses. Right. She sighed again and reached for the glasses sticking out of his pocket, gently lowering Jerry so he was laying on her lap again so she could place the glasses on his face. "There. How's that. Better?" Candace chuckled and rolled her eyes, grabbing her bag to dig one of her bandage kits out of it.
But now there was a problem. She had looked at Harrison as she grabbed her bag and now she saw..the man was covered in blood. "Harrison! Wh..what the hell happened to you?!" What the ********?! Harrison was bleeding! But ********. Who was she going to use these on first?! "You look a mess! How are you even conscious?!" She looked down at Jerry. Unlike Harrison he was barely conscious. He'd been in pretty bad shape already from the whole fight with those Boos...she'd get him first. But Harrison wasn't going to go unbandaged for long.
Candace bandaged Jerry.

The whole room started to shake, causing the lights to flicker as they swayed. New conveyor belts started to appear around the room, more complex that before as they form a network of "roads" around the empty room. These conveyor belts flickered with the lights, looking like mere illusions for a moment before solidifying as the building stopped shaking, causing the lights to stop flickering as well.
All was still, all was silent... Until a loud laugh echoed through the building.
You get the feeling that something is happening soon.

As Candace applied the first aid, Jerry's consciousness slowly swirled into clarity, he blinked through his freshly replaced lenses at Candace, face crimson now, "I... ah... y-yes, er-" Finally, he was able to tear his gaze away, still reeling a bit as the scent of blood and her sudden remark made him snap his attention to Harrison. "Oh- Oh, goodness! Harrison! What on earth happened to you??" It hadn't been feathers, that was for sure.
Hands still shaking, he scrambled up, rummaging in his own bag for his bandages for the poor man, "You... you saved us! You're quite the hero, Harri, I'm glad you're on our side, ahaha..." The past short while was a bit of a blur, and judging by his lack of coordination he was still recovering, but at least it seemed he had snapped out of- or at least repressed- whatever had come over him previously.
Jerry used his first set of bandages on Harrison
Then the ground began to shake, and the look of terror reappeared on the Hunter's face, scrambling to his feet as he finished tending to the bloodied copper. Was there time to bandage Candace as well? Always time. Roar suddenly materialized in his hands as the laughter pierced the previous silence. "Harri, m-m-make sure Candace is taken care of... I'm... I'm going to take a look."
