No Seda followed the other females up and waited. So far two for yes and one for no. Seda wondered what hers would say. When it was her turn she reached in and closed her eyes, when she pulled her hand out she sighed with relief...it was no. Seda smiled and bowed to Earthmoter and Rais and then went back out to the crowd, She had to see how this all ended!

Yes
Kishi waited her turn to draw a rune, and watched eagerly as each faun before her picked a stone. Their reactions made her grow even more anxious. Her heart did not belong to anyone, but she hoped and prayed to the Great Tree that Rais was not her soul mate. Nothing against him, but she did not have the confidence required to be a strong leader.

Earthmother stopped in front of her, and she looked into the ancient faun's eyes. Such wisdom, Kishi thought. It was only when the Earthmother cleared her thought to get her attention that Kishi realized she was just standing there staring.

"Sorry!" she quipped and quickly dipped her hand into the purple velveteen bag. She held the rune in her tightly clenched hand, willing it to say no.

With a forced surge of confidence, she opened her hand and looked at the green stone. Stay strong, Kishi. The spirits might know something you do not.

Feeling even more scared, Kishi handed the rune back and remained on the dais. She kept her gaze averted, refusing to look at the chief out of shame.

The younger faun scooting closer caught his attention, but he didn't reprimand him or move away, instead staying where he was and resting a hand on his near shoulder. Danori was starting to gather that the other was afraid of large amounts of people and, well, if he seemed inclined to find it soothing to be there, Danori wasn't really going to push him away. Far be it for him to antagonize a young stranger.

He was silent at the questioning, watching the goings on inside with a mildly interested expression. His head tilted lightly when Rais finally announced his council. He supposed it was a momentous occasion. Those inside certainly seemed to think it was, and now there was grand talk of what each person would do and of building a brewery. He didn't care for a brewery, really, not sure why he should. But, if the others were impressed, he supposed it was a good thing.

He was less impressed, however, with the pretense of 'finding a wife' for Rais. Did he not socialize on his own? Did he not know a single agreeable female he wasn't related to? Or was he locked away in some sort of ivory tower, where he talked to none and knew none? This audition process for finding a mate didn't appeal to him. Was there magic with this? Was the 'Matron' somehow infallible? What if Rais couldn't stand the female? Worse, what if the female found Rais wholly disagreeable and couldn't leave? He didn't like how this was set up.

From that point, he didn't care about what was going on inside, snorting his displeasure and glancing down towards the blue-colored male to answer his questions at last. "I don't know this place." So they were both strangers to the faun of the Tree. Danori was actually a bit relieved to know the other wasn't from there either. Made it seem perhaps a little less bizarre to know he wasn't the only one confused.

"Don't want to, either."

[Too bad Wolfy isn't around, this would be even more fun if Calais was being played for real!]

Kieran practically whoops for joy when he hears his son's name called. He hugs Calais to his side. "He'll do such wonderful things!" he exclaims, bursting at the seams with pride.

But the feeling was not to last.

Kieran's eyes become as wide as saucers when his wife's name is listed among the eligible women called to the dais to perhaps become the wife of the chieftain. Now, he'd seen many things today, but this was the most outrageous!

Until, that is, Calais begins to walk, as if called, to the dais.

"Calais, my love, don't go!" he exclaims, trying to tug on her hand, to no avail. About the only thing poor Kieran can do at this point is stand and sniffle a little bit, and remember everything he'd ever done wrong.

Sitting in the back, lurking among the other faun who didn't wish to draw attention to themselves sat the Faun the chief named as Brewmaster. He smirked at the announcement.

"Newly appointed?" hah! Mojo has been a brewmaster for as long as he can remember. He was not new to this tree, nor new to Faun culture and society. No, he's lived among them most of his life. But when the Tree settled down beside the island in the sea, he took that as his chance to finally realize his dream to travel.

And travel he did! He's been to the far corners of Gaia in his adventures; studying, collecting, bartering, brewing and drinking. Always having a good time and spreading the cheer and good will to anyone he passed by.

Turning to his old buddy, the "newly appointed" Chef, Mojo lifted his stein, "Congratulations old man. We got a promotion!" He laughed and chugged his ale after clinking.

Mojo watched the female faun who'd ascended to the stage with great interest. Quite the lovely lineup the Chief has to choose from there. It's good to be the chief.

No

Vanya was lost in her thoughts until she felt a hand on her shoulder. She thought it must be Takis, but the hand was smaller and she was surprised to turn and see another male Faun, this one much younger than she or Takis. And yet, he said something about being on the Council too? Then he must have been one of the ones called just moments ago. Why, oh why, hadn't she paid attention to the names being called?

Okay, so logically, she didn't know any of the other Faun and there'd be no way for her to match random names with random Faun...

She heard her own words thrown back at her, and she felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. She couldn't believe she actually said all that out loud. In front of everyone. And now, here was this young male, not only repeating her foolishness, but complimenting her at the same time? It was all just a bit much. However, she could sense that he meant well with his words; she just wasn't entirely sure how to respond. This whole 'socializing' thing was still rather new to her.

"I...err...thank you, I guess," she murmured awkwardly. "But...how could you say that? You don't even know me," she said in a soft tone of voice, glancing aside as if reluctantly arguing with his claims of her capability.

Still, she had other protests to make. Already on her way to the dais once more, she nodded politely to the odd young teen, then turned her eyes back towards Takis. He'd been trying to tell her something, but...it'd have to wait for now. Instead, she tried to offer him a reassuring smile, but it came out rather strained.

Stepping onto the dais once more, she headed immediately for the Earthmother, taking a deep breath to steel herself along the way. "I'm...I'm afraid there's been some mistake," she started, but got the bag pushed towards her as if implying 'pick now, questions later.' She bit her bottom lip, hesitating as she stared into the small, dark bag, then plunged her hand inside, eyes closed tight.

Please, just once...a little luck...

She pulled out a rune, clutched tightly in her fist, then slowly opened her eyes and her fist at the same time. Then let out a sigh of relief. Oh, thank the Tree... It wasn't until afterwards that she realized she might have offended the Chief and his mother with her reaction, and she flushed warmly.

And yet, as much as she wanted to retreat from the dais quickly, she remained where she stood, focusing her attention on the Earthmother. Somehow, she felt more comfortable talking to her than the Chief, especially given her questions about his decision. "I think there's been some mistake, ma'am..." she started again. "I don't think...I mean...I'm not really right for the Council." Her voice faltered, and she spoke quietly, praying she wasn't overheard by other ears. "I mean...I've never really been good for anything...you can't really want me..."

(( Combining prompts 1 and 2 ))

Myrielle noisily slid in in a cloud of dust, clutching two fistfuls of beads. She had missed some important meeting. It figured. Ella was never the timely sort. Or the graceful sort.

"Yo, guys, what's u-" She paused as she heard her name. Oh no! She was in trouble for being late!

Grumbling, the bright orange faun shuffled forward, her brow furrowed as she ran through a list of possible plausible excuses for her tardiness. Picking up beads, though truthful, seemed a little weak in the long scheme of things. Maybe, just maybe, she could tell them all that she was busy saving the Isle from the clutches of evil. Yes. That was a great story!!!

Ella bounded onto the dais and fell in line behind other females. She was a little curious as to why a group of females were all late. Maybe they all went to the little faun's room together... girls did that, right?

"So, hi, Uncle Rais!" Ella grinned that sheepish grin that crept upon her anytime she tried and failed to lie. "So about me missing that meeting..." Her voice trailed off as she saw the females drawing runes from a bag. "What's going on here?"

All the other fauns seemed preoccupied and took little heed of the teen. She shoved the beads into the satchel she slung from her hip to free up her hands. Obviously she was supposed to participate in this weirdo dice game. Reaching into the bag herself she looks down at the rune.

Yes

"Ok... is this a "YES" for capital punishment or for I'm awesome and can leave? I promise I won't be so airheaded again... much... Ok so maybe I can't promise that. BUT I'M YOUNG! I STILL HAVE DREAMS!!!"

Backing away from the Chieftain, Ella looked around her, grasping at straws.

"I... uh... I'll throw you guys an epic party?" She grinned largely in her most 'I'm cute and innocent. Forgive me' way.

Observing the girl that was just called to serve as the Seer, Earthmother watched with great interest. She was surprised, but glad, to see that a female would be serving on the once all-male Inner Circle. She chuckled inwardly knowing that it would be a challenge for her son to overcome, and one he needs to experience.

"Have faith, Vanya. You are worthy just by being who you are. Laisidhiel believes in you, I believe in you. And most of all, Rais believes in you." She reached out and put a reassuring hand on the girl's shoulder.

"We will begin the ritual to induct you into the Circle and open your spiritual sight soon. Your first duty is coming up."

Moving to the next fauness, Earthmother paused and examined her as the teenager drew out a rune.

"Young one, we are beginning the ritual to find Chief Rais his mate. The spirits are sorting the eligible females. Looks like you are still in the running, Ella." With a wink, Earthmother sidestepped to the next female on the dais.

(Doing the same as Melly and combining 1 and 2)

The announcement of having been chosen for a position both startled and excited Amadorine, and the faun gave a small skip in place and grinned; this was an unexpected change in her path of life. The next announcement that included her name, however, caused a look of pure confusion to come over her.

Taking a step forward to the Earthmother, she tilted her head and listened closely to the woman's words before casting a glance over to Rais and frowning. The guy had to be so much older than she was! Still, a task was a task, she supposed and into the bag she reached.

Yes

She stared at the stone in her hand for a moment, then frowned. "No chance that this could be, oh, I don't know, maybe redone? Best two out of three?" Not that she didn't like the idea of being married, but it was just so not how she dreamed of it to be; filled with tests and feats instead of romancing and dates.

To say that Vanya was surprised would have been much like saying that Laisidhiel was a big tree. She barely had the presence of mind to keep her jaw from hanging open in shock. They...believed in her? Her? But...how well did they even know her? And if they did...they still believed?

It was a heady thought, and also a bit overwhelming. At first she could only nod dumbly, then she swallowed and managed to squeak out, "I...thank you," with a bow of her head. The Earthmother had moved on, but Vanya hesitated for a bit, puzzling over this talk of rituals and opening spiritual sight and upcoming duties... She didn't really know what all of that meant, but if the Earthmother said that everything would be alright, well, she was inclined to believe her. Perhaps it was the calm, soothing quality of her voice, or the subtle notes of power and authority beneath that. Or the encouraging nature of her mere presence. Vanya figured it beyond her wildest dreams to even hope for a fraction of that, even with such a lofty position in store for her. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, right?

If only she knew exactly what was in store for her...

Pan was humbled by being picked. "I will do my best to serve those that seedlings that will be our next generations." He nodded to the leader and then back to Kishi.

He then watched as it was time for the girls to have be picked. He watched Kishi. She was his friend and princess. He was sure if anyone would make a good wife for their Chieftain it would be her. Although, oddly he felt sad by it.

Yes

Junkyard didn't like this idea one bit. Why would she want to be next to the leader? Although, protecting him would be the best thing she could do. Sure, she was loyal to her Deity, but he was the Chief of the Faun, so he deserved her loyalty as well.

This was very conflicting for her, but oh well. She walked over, leaving Artemis, and placed a hand inside the bag. Out came the word "yes." Great... she wasn't sure how she felt about this.

Takis sighs with relief as Vanya draws a red rune and practically collapses onto the bench behind him. Suddenly he's glad Vanya had led them over here; he isn't sure he can stand on his own two hooves right now.

He leans back against the tree, somehow comforted by its presence. Now that his mind is clear again, he could focus on what's going on with his usual analytical nature. So, he'd been named Tree-Shaper. He isn't sure what exactly that might entail, but it sure sounded like fun, and something he'd be good at! He'd have so much to tell Papa and Mama when he returned home.

...Wait just one moment...!

In his confusion and worry about Vanya, he'd completely failed to realize that his own mother was still up on the dais! Wide-eyed, Takis runs a hand through his hair. "I must've forgotten they were here too!" he says softly. He turns his eyes to the crowd, trying to pick out his father.

Aha! There he was. Looking as sad and dejected as a lost puppy. Takis debates for a moment between going to comfort his father, or staying rooted to this spot so Vanya could find him again. His eyes flick back and forth between Vanya and Kieran, and he finally decides to move through the crowd over to his Papa.

Kieran looks over when Takis appears, but then rivets his eyes back on the dais. "Well done, son," he says, nodding a bit. "We're very proud of you, your mother and I."

Takis loops his arm through his father's. "Thank you, Papa," he says. "Don't....don't worry about Mama." He turns his eyes to the platform. "I'm sure the spirits will know her heart belongs to another."

Kieran nods a bit. "I know...in my heart I know...but I can't help being nervous." He glances over to his son, who was also watching the stage. "You know," he says, attempting a bit of humor, "Those are some very eligible ladies up there....the chief can only have one...I'm sure you could find a pretty lady for yourself if you wanted."

Takis chuckles softly. "I'm sure I could," he says, trying not to blush. His eyes are drawn to Vanya.

Kieran looks at Takis again, this time noticing that he's watching the other end of the line from where Calais is. Very curious. Perhaps he had someone in mind already. Kieran's eyebrows go up as he watches the stage, trying to guess who it might be. Takis had been spending a lot of time away from home lately... Very curious...

Fi wondered what to do with the stone for a moment, only to shrug and walk over to Rais. "I didn't mean to make a scene about it, its just that I'm already in love with another man." She blushed, hugging him. "I hope she chooses a wonderful wife for you~ That gray female playing with her hair seems to be looking at you too~" The soft orange female smiled, letting go as she hopping off the dias. She really didn't want to be up there. With a grin she walked to the back of the room, looking for a drink or something.

Isolde had just arrived when the Earthmother called her and several others forward. She had no idea what was going on, but came forward anyway, too swept up by all these fauns around to even speak. When it was her turn to choose a rune, she did so absent-mindedly.

Yes

Isolde looked at the rune, and then at the others. She was still confused. Yes to what? Was she going to possibly be a sacrifice or something? She gulped a bit, now wishing she had stayed in the shadows. Just what was she getting herself into?

Belvah blinked, smiling back at Calli. "Congrats and good luck Calli~" She beamed. Inwardly, the silvery gray female was wondering just how many of these women had picked a yes rune.

"I didn't know you could read these~ You're super talented!" Even if the spotted female next to her was competition for Rais' heart, Callie was still her friend. She didn't want to ruin that, even if they had just met.
