Sheridan had nodded to Petro, already assessing the materials they had gathered and how they might work together to catch a mouse. Now back at their seats, materials laid out before them, Sheridan was debating just how they could make any sort of trap out of what they had gathered.
Well, Petro had had a good idea with the sticky lichen, it could work as a sort of fly paper to trap the mouse, and the mushrooms could be used for bait (mice ate mushrooms, right?). Besides the lichen, the board itself would be useful, and since that was where the lichen already was that's what they would trap the mouse on.
"Hmmm, we can trap the mouse on the plank, maybe we could drop that beetle shell on it as well."
But how, well he did have all those vines (he really should have found something else as well). They could set up some kind of trip line, that would drop the shell on the mouse when it went for the bait. Maybe if he used the weight on the plank to, no, he didn't have any pulleys or anything to use as a fulcrum. Well then, a trip line it was he supposed.
The best place to set it up was under the desk, then he could rig the vine over the vine over the rung with one end attached to the top of the shell, then the other end rigged to the end of the plank where it would hopefully release when the mouse stopped on the plank to take the mushrooms and drop the shell on it trapping it there. And if that didn't work, well maybe the sticky lichen would hold the mouse there long enough for them to drop the shell on the mouse themselves.
A tail flick, Sheridan eyed the contraption warily.
"Do you think it will work?"

So they were supposed to . . . build a trap now. To catch a mouse. What the Jack did this even have to do with math?! Aksaja was highly confused by this point, but it was what the teacher was asking them to do, so . . .
With a bit of a sigh, the lightning dragon examined the materials he'd picked up. Vines were good, they could be used as rope, and the board . . . Hm. Eyes lighting up a bit, Aksaja went to work.
No one had ever said they couldn't use other parts of the room in their traps, so he grabbed a desk to stand on, and found something on the ceiling to tie the ends of the vines to in a sort of odd cradle. Then, he broke a piece off the end of his board, and used it to prop the rest of the board up inside the vine-cradle, at an angle. Finally, he used a smaller piece of vine to tie to the stick holding the board up, and waited.
Once a mouse ran under, he could pull the stick out and drop the board on top of it, hopefully stunning the creature. Hopefully not killing it. Hmn . . . Hopefully.

Crouched near his completed trap, Aksaja watched carefully from halfway underneath a desk, tail tip twitching back and forth. Here, mousey, mousey . . . Come on.
Then, there it was! A mouse ran right under his board! Aksaja let out a little yelp of excitement and yanked on the stick. The board fell, there was a lot of noise and a SPLAT as green stuff squished out onto the floor. But, when he went to pick the board up and look underneath . . . no mouse. Damn. It had gotten away. Well, he'd just have to try again. He knew this would work!

Aksaja set his trap up again, pulling off a little bit more of one of the vines to make his 'rope' longer. That way, he could watch from farther away, and hopefully not scare the mouse off before the board fell.
This time, the trap worked like an absolute CHARM. As if it was the best mouse-trap ever. When he saw the mouse, he yanked on his new longer rope, and the mouse never saw it coming. Knocked senseless, it was still lying under the slimy board when the lightning dragon rushed over to the trap.
"Yes! I got one!" he called out, picking up the little creature by it's tail and going to show it to the professor. Hopefully it wouldn't matter too much that it was covered in green slime.

Petro liked to build things, he really did but the drafting and coming up with the plans? That was not his thing. That was left to the more calculating members of the Clan, usually his smaller cousins who relied on his strength for the heavy lifting. Still, it was a good give-and-take between the celestial dragon and the tikbalang as they set up the trap with what materials they were able to collect. He tilted his head as he studied the contraption, equally wary as he rubbed his chin, "Guess we're gonna find out, yeah?"

Sheridan was having his doubts about their trap, maybe they had made it too complicated, or maybe they should have...no, no, stop over thinking it. And stop watching, no mouse was going to fall for a trap with a dragon and a horse staring at it!
He looked away from the trap, looking around the room, to the other students, and finally to Petro. He had been about to suggest they might try to adjust the trap--
Squeak!
What? A mouse, they had caught a mouse! The trap had worked, go Sheridan and Petro master mouse trappers!

Tro had not quite wandered away from the trap, more like attempted to give it some room and make it not so obvious that there was a trap. Or that it was a trap at all. He stayed close to Sheridan, seeing as how they'd both worked on making the thing. When it looked like the celestial dragon was about to say something the trap was sprung!
And would you look at that! It worked! It jacking worked! He went closer to the trap to make sure it really was a mouse they'd caught and not some exceptionally tiny gnome (hey, you never knew with those guys) that had wandered in. Hearing the squeak and seeing the twitching whiskers, the horse boil confirmed that they had indeed caught a mouse. Petro felt his mouth pull wide as he grinned from ear to ear. With a hearty thump to the celestial dragon's back, and an equally enthusiastic holler, "YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!"

He could have sworn there was math to be learned here. Damien had his calculator and a pad ready. where was the math?
He could have sworn that they all went outside to study angles not pick up foliage for traps.
Aw Jack. This whole class was a trap!
He didn't have any materials to makeshift any kind of cage or a wire trap expect trying to balance a heavy notepad on top of a Constrict pen and just hissed at him before slithering away into his pocket. With the threat of a bad grade looming over his head he simply just laid his head on top of his desk and prayed one of the other students traps misfired in his direction.
"Hmph!" let the puppy pouting begin.

A mouse trap? Sparrow thought, idly eying the rather...er, unorthodox materials he held in his hands. They did not seem quite the right thing to build a trap with, but it seemed he would have to just make do with them.
So with a sigh, he knelt down on the floor of the classroom, beside his desk. Rubbing the back of his neck, Sparrow gave a resigned shrug. He propped the plank of wood up on the rocks. Sat back. Stared at it. Then rearranged it a bit so that the wood was tilted upwards, slanted towards the ceiling. He nudged the beetle shell beneath the plank, in between the piles of rocks, sort of as bait.
Well. It was pathetic, but it might work, right?
...somehow he was not so certain it would.

Crouching behind the...admittedly quite lame mousetrap, Sparrow's eyes moved towards the mice scuttling across the floor with tiny squeaks. They really were rather cute; hopefully nothing bad would actually...you know, happen to them.
Sparrow's gaze flitted briefly to rest on LW a few feet away. The shewolf was deep in concentration building her own trap, and with a small smile, he turned back to his own, trying to focus.
Come on little mouse...

Nope, the first attempt was a failure. The mouse had glanced at the beetle shell with a totally bored expression like Yeah, right before skittering away across the floor.
Sparrow frowned, eying his mousetrap again. He moved a rocks around, then set the plank horizontally across them so it was like a miniature house, keeping one beside the opening, but not blocking it. The mouse could scuttle in, he'd see the beetle shell and get distracted, and then Sparrow would push the rock in front, successfully capturing it.
...well, at least it sounded like a decent idea.
There was a squeak. A shuffle. Then -
Fwoop!
Success! Sparrow thought, pleased once he could hear the frantic squeaking of the mouse. Moving the rock aside just the tiniest bit, he grabbed onto the tail of the mouse and picked it up, settling it into his palm as he made his way over to Mikael Walker.
"Here you go," he said cheerfully.

Arriving back in the classroom with her objects, the professor then revealed his plan for them; a trap. A working trap out of these materials to catch the shiny little mice in. Pulling up her sleeves, Levi went at it with no questions asked. Nothing like a little laboring and catching of prey to get the creative juices flowing!
Piling the the two rocks and beetle shell in a tri-grouping, she left the interior to the beetle shell open with the two rocks acting as side blocks flush to the opening. She put the plank of wood on its side and off the opening of the beetle shell, moldy part toward the interior.
Her thought was that was as good as it was going to get for bait. If she slid the plank of wood over the opening while the mouse was inside investigating the gross stuff on the end, she could trap it still alive in the beetle shell. Now came the tricky part.

Some students had already gone handing in their trapped prey. When her first curious furry fellow came along, she tried her best to keep still and as out of the way as possible. There were so many mice running around, she didn't want to startle any of them... which would ruin her chances if this one didn't work out...
which it actually did. When the whiskered critter waddled its furry little body toward the opening, it stopped momentarily to sniff the air. Levi's tail curled into a spiral behind her in anticipation for the pounce into action. Step by tiny step it indeed finally entered the oversized beetle shell, kept on a tilt upward by one of her outstretched calves. Patience ... patience was needed; she gave the beady-eyed rodent a moment to indulge in the gross stuff before sliding the plank across the floor flush against the opening to secure the mouse inside.
mrewhisssss~! The tatzel secured one hand over the back of the shell and the other over the piece of wood at the mouth of the opening. Sliding herself into a towering position over her trap, she carefully and quickly left the tiniest of openings ajar enough for her to grab the mouse from the inside. Using her tail and one leg to keep the pieces slightly together, she pluched out and covered the mouse in both hands. A grin widened on her face as she stood and carefully avoided traps and mice on her way over to the professor's desk. Got one, professor!

Make a trap, with these? As interesting as that sounded, how was that even possible? He wondered, while examining his own finds to see of what use they could be.
A slimy plank with lichen on one end, a small handful of mushrooms, and two hefty rocks...
Not much he could do with those. That was for sure... But at least he had one idea.
Gathering his items together, he shoved the two rocks together, so that they were placed on their sides and made a sort entrance at the front. One that was deep enough that something could be placed, or trapped inside. Once he was satisfied with their position, he carefully shoved the mushrooms in to use as bait and placed the plank on top, in a way that it could easily be knocked down in case something passed underneath it and hopefully trap it. He was also careful to make sure that the end covered in lichen was the one that would hit the ground. It was thankfully dry enough that it could be used as a stopper and stop the plank from sliding down more than it should.
"Done. I think..." He announced.

Now that he had set up his 'trap', he now had to test it. Only problem was, he had no idea if would actually work, or how long it would take to even attract a mouse. Was it even possible?
Looking over towards the rest of the class, the black dog noticed that the others seemed to be doing fairly well. Aside from one couple in particular seemed to be having a bit of trouble with their task. Not that he could say anything. He had yet to catch a mouse himself.
