Now came the tricky part, getting her boat over to the bucket. There was no way she was walking across that floor with or without her crutches, it was just too dangerous for her bare feet.
There was, however, lots of water all around them. Water djinn that she was, she had a fair measure of control over her sister element naturally. "That will do nicely," she mused to herself, leaning over to place her little boat in the middle of a wide puddle.

With a wiggle of her fingers she sent the puddle along, boat included, across the floor towards the bucket, and when it reached it, the water arched up to place the boat gently on the surface where it floated gently. Success!

Colette heard the door slam and looked up just in time to see the front row of the class get soaked. She felt sympathetic for those students, she really did, but she couldn't deny the overwhelming gratitude that it happened to not be her. It was interesting that Professor Savage seemed not to care too. The woman just went right on with the lesson.
As the professor spoke, Colette observed her very own kit on her desk. Building a boat -- so that's what it was for. And all it needed to do was float? That shouldn't be too difficult.

After opening her kit, Colette stared at the plain wooden boat. Well that should be able to float all on its own. What was with the extra parts? Or was it a trick and there was some secret? She squinted at the model and tried to remember what the boat she rode on had. Lots of foxfires, she knew that.. but she couldn't exactly put a ton on there right now, not that she had any super tiny model foxfires to glue to the thing. However, she did remember a flag. The Grim Reaper had spent some time staring at the original and trying to figure out what the heck it was.

Taking some paper, Colette painted it black and then doodled a very simple image on it -- something to keep positive. Paper was light and should make an excellent flag, so she was satisfied, but the only problem was how to get it on the boat. She looked in the box for some sort of mast thing and found one. "Hmm.." she looked at the piece judgmentally. "I could use this, but it's kind of heavy..." Placing it on the desk, she reached in her bag for something. A pencil! It was way lighter pure wood.

Gluing the flag to the pencil, she then glued the pencil to the model ship. "..." Should she really add more? The goal was to get it to float. Adding more would just make it sink, right? She glanced around at the other boats and saw some had way more things on it -- nicer things. She was not very crafty.. Well, maybe they would just sink and hers would float. Yeah! Hers was just fine. Though, it couldn't hurt to add a name..

Taking some black paint, Colette added an optimistic name to the side of her boat. Now she was ready.

Build a boat and see if it float. Rosc's look turned impassive to one of "Really? You're really making us do this?" which was in and of itself rather impressive because eyes were generally a major factor in facial expressions. And his "eyes" were covered in the usual blindfold. He knew absolutely nothing about boats, barring observations of the few he had been on in his life and even then he hadn't paid too much attention to the structure of the boat. But he respected Prof Savage, so it wasn't like he was going to spite her and not do the assignment just because he thought it was stupid. She was eccentric, let her have it. He removed the objects from the box and almost immediately returned the paints to it. Oh, he could paint, it was a solid form that he could see upon something else. But just like the prof's chalk, he wasn't going to take chances with the color of the paint. Even if it was labeled, he wouldn't believe it. So he put the boat together as best he could remember from some of the ships he had seen. Anchor, mast, sail, things like that.

He didn't really care if his classmates' boats looked better than his did. Rosc was a notorious minimalist unless it really mattered for something or he enjoyed what he was doing and even then he did his darnedest to look like he could care less.
He walked over to the bucket and with subtle care set the boat in the water. Part of him really did hope the boat would float, just so that he wouldn't have to stick his hand into the water to get it back.

Just as the back end dipped into the water, Rosc grabbed the mast of his boat and pulled it free. Tipping the water that had gotten into it, he frowned, trying to figure out what might have happened. Well, to be honest, they were pretty crappy model boats anyways.
He set the boat back into the water, careful not to look into it himself. Water, like mirrors, reflected images and that messed with his vision. There was depth and yet there wasn't, a shadow and yet nothing really there. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.

This time he was too focused on not looking at the water that he missed when his boat sank mostly beneath the surface. With a stern frown, he rolled up one sleeve and dipped his hand into the water, fishing the little boat out.
"You better work this time, or I swear I'll pretend there really are humans aboard and smash you to bits," he muttered under his breath as he poured the water out of his boat for the second time. As he placed it back into the water, a thought struck him. If it didn't work again, he was taking the anchor off.

Well, whether it was the threats or just plain damn luck, his boat finally floated. He fished it back out and returned to his desk, setting the boat next to the jar that held his homework from last class. The grinning minipet pressed its hands and face up against the glass and stared stupidly at the boat.

Lilith had a hard time paying attention to the professor's spew about humans and boats when she noticed Draven was in this class. She couldn't believe she had even given him a chance when he didn't even bother to call her back after that date. At this point, she wasn't sure if she was pissed off because he didn't call her back or that because she had missed what the professor said. This was one of the classes she actually looked forward to when she transferred to this school.

Build a boat. That's really the only thing she caught the professor say, and given what Lilith was watching the rest of the class do, she assumed she had heard right. Why were they building a boat? Wasn't this supposed to be about humans? She really wished she had heard all of what the professor said. Regardless, it seemed she managed to put a boat together and even paint it purple and aquamarine. Anything with the word 'marine' in it was a good colour for a boat, yeah? Just what did she have to do now? She didn't know what to do with it.

Lilith wouldn't have known what to do if everyone else hadn't been doing it. She quickly caught on, realizing that the other half of the task was to go over to the bucket of water and test the boat, test it and see if it floats or sinks. She didn't really want to put the boat in the water and see it floats though, she wanted to grab the bucket and dump it over Draven's head in the middle of the class in front of everyone.

Unfortunately, when she got over to the bucket with her boat, Draven was not there. It seemed he had already made a successful boat and managed to make it float after the second time sinking it. Her face only grew more and more unpleasant and by the time she stood in front of the bucket she literally dropped the boat into it, not caring whether it floated or sank. Whatever worked for her, she just wanted the bucket of water.

Coincidentally, the bucket of water liked her too and her boat floated. That boat seemed to know better. If it sank the first time, it probably wasn't coming back up when she threw the bucket, becoming another thing to hit Draven with. She stared down at the boat in the bucket, and oh, was she considering it. The room was already pretty wet, and this wouldn't be very enjoyable punishment given the likelihood of water drenching him further. She decided, removing her floating boat out of the water and walking away to make room for the next student to test their boat. She'd get him at another place, another time, with a better scheme.

That Jack? Her foot barely touched the boil's desk and he just had to toss his entire box of supplie all over her desk. Luckily Holly was able to save her boat. She grinned when she saw that West's boat cracked in half. "Yeah, that's what you get for doing that." It was then Holly decided that if she ever needed a partner for an art related class, to not have it be him.
The ghoul decided to try her boat now before it was too late. She hoped it would float or she'd get made fun of by someone if it didn't.

Well crap. That didn't work. She barely added anything to it, why didn't it work?

Holly sighed and looked at her boat. What was wrong? The ghoul wiped off whatever water there was on it and straightened out the leaf. She was about to talk to the boat and tell it that it better float or else though decided that would make her sound odd.
She went back to the water and put it in, maybe this time? Sadly no, it started to sink again. Holly grabbed it quickly before the leaf got too wet. Why, why boat?

Third times the charm right? Right? Holly dried off her boat for hopefully the last time. She took a few steps away from the water so other's could try. "Look here boat, you better float, alright?" The ghoul stared at it, sighed, then put it back into the water.

Really? She already disliked this class and now this? Even worse she bet that wreak of a boat West made probably floated quicker than hers. And her's looked so cool! Holly put her boat into the water.
What's this? It was floating! Finally! She smiled happily, there, she taught that boat it's place. The ghoul retrieved her boat and went to sit down, now that she proved it could indeed float.

Calder had seen boats before the field trip and did have pleasant memories of them. Being a creature who lived in and around water, kelpies saw plenty of fishermen. As for the sea with the more bigger yachts and ships, well, he didn't see too many of those. However, when a kelpie was too young or old, boats would be used to ferry them across to other areas, especially if it involved clan meetings. No one was about to subject a young colt or filly to strong currents, and while they usually picked places that were more timid in regards to water, sometimes it was necessary.
Calder had been on a boat before the trip to the horrible island, and it had been a rather plesant one. The gentle rocking, and watching the water move along below him. He found out a few other clans actually used them more and thought he wouldn't mind a little boat of his own. Swimming was a great pleasure for him, but a boat wasn't too terrible either. He could at least do his homework in one without getting anything soggy.

Moving over, he happily took a free desk and opened his model kit. It was simple enough and while everyone worked on making theirs amazing, Calder did the same. He needed no paints or flashy material. Instead, he took a blunt scrapper and started to carve the little boat in design that mimics kelpie boats. The waves that mimiced tails, the curling designs of a great whirl pool that all the waters came from. Once he managed the carving, he fiddled with a piece of his scarf and taking a tiny stick from some extra supplies, stuck the stick on and tied on the little piece of his Devon clan colors on.

Proud, he hummed to himself. Then, he turned it over and wrote a little thing in kelpie. A prayer that he hoped would keep it from sinking.

Done, he smiled at his creation. That was when he remembered something and biting the end of his thumb, let a drop of blood hit the little boat. Now it was complete!

Calder scooted out of his seat and took his boat with him, waiting in line to go to the bucket. While he felt the craft was sturdy, he still held it delicately. Once there before the water, he breathed deep and set the little boat in the water.

It was a personal hit to his pride when he saw the little boat hover for a moment before taking on water. It tilted, filling up before starting to sink. Knowing it wasn't going to stay afloat, he dipped his hands in and tilted it over, letting the water pour out. It seemed he wasn't good at making boats, but then again, maybe he had inscribed the wrong prayer on the bottom or maybe the water was just really angry with him.
Feeling a little depressed, he set the craft back in, willing it to stay afloat.
