Christof crouched down in front of the table and the cage to watch the bleeding, snarling Lepus gnawing on the bars of it's cage with wide, sparkle-eyed admiration, "N-name it? I dunno... I'm thtill amathed it'th really... aliwe!"

"Nah. I get bite all the time." He popped the finger in his mouth, not at all concerned about germs, and then popped it out again to look at it. A few beads of blood started to form.

Glancing over, he looked at the angry lepus. It didn't seem happy to be alive. Maybe it never wanted to come back again like this. "Well, if you bring it to life, you should take responsibility and at least name it. Seems rude not to. Could always call him Chompy." Calder went back to sucking on his finger to stop the bleeding. Animal first aid - lick wounds.

"Va bene." Malodore peered at the cage as well. They had really done it, and that brought a surge of pride to the plague doctor's heart... yet there was also a little ache there, a little worry for Riley and for the unpleasant situation that had played out.

It was abruptly tired, the ache of overexertion spreading from its claws through its arms and shoulders. "You did well. All of us, I think." It glanced at the sloth demon, impressed - the wiring had been his design, it thought. Quite sound, surprisingly so given the reputation of Sloths in general.

"Yes. It was a pleasure, err, you know-" he tried to avoid the word working as much as possible, "collaborating with you. I don't usually muck about with biology. ...But some very interesting results. ...Sorry we we had to hold off earlier, Calder, but I did appreciated your help regardless."

This was not Christof's first experiment, or device. Barth knew that. Maybe it wasn't even the first project he'd headed.

But Barth was very glad to see the ideas and blueprints and theories culminate into success. ...For personal and Contractual reasons.

Christof rested his chin on his hands, still watching the Lepus in the flickering light. Outside, it sounded like the storm was settling down a bit, the occasional glimmer of moonlight through the clouds brightening the dark room. "Firth." He said finally, "Thinthe we managed on the firth try."

Done licking his wound, Calder moved over to actually look at the lepus. The "first", as Christof named it. Eying First, he wondered exactly what it thought or felt about all of this, and hoped it would at least find some happiness in it's new life. That was his only hope, and seeing as Christof beamed at the creature, he had a good feeling the Igor would take good care of him.

Reaching over, he ruffled the Igor's mismatched hair. "The First of many successes then?" He asked, hoping that the Igor wouldn't let on soured moment after a successful run at an experiment and a bit of independence stop him.

"One hopes," Malodore said, nodding approvingly at Calder. "It was excellent practice. I am glad to have been able to assist."

"Firth is a very good name," Barth agreed.

Names were important. On multiple levels, for demons. For the creature shaking with rage in the dark of the cage, it meant an auspicious beginning.

Barth yawned. "Hard to err, examine it properly. With the lights out. If you were planning further testing, it might have to wait."

"I thuppothe we thould... er... dithperthe. Before the gnometh figure out why the power went out." He mumbled quietly, shifting to pick up a few more candles to light them for his Master before he went. "I don't particularly want another detenthion." He glanced up to the three of them, his face a mixture of emotion in the freshly lit candles, "Um. Thank you. All of you. For um. Helping with thith. I'm thorry Mithtreth didn't thtay... I thould have inwited her. Um. But... um. It... we er... the exthperiment that is... um..." He shifted, tongue stinging numbly. He should take it out, the pickled juices helped preserve it a bit, but the taste was horrendous and he wasn't feeling very well on top of it.

"I... er... I thould um..."

Calder grinned. "I miss how cute you are when you get flustered with your words." He said, happy to help in making the Igor even more unsure of himself. Just another duty that Calder provided, free of charge. After a brief smile, he reached up to pull his hair back, not wanting to get water all over Bath's nice floor. "..but yeah. I really am supposed to be on good behavior and I do NOT want to see Hellma ever again if I can help it. Red too. That lady is all types of not pretty and she sure as Jack doesn't want to even look at me." And he wanted to avoid seeing the pair of them for as long as he monsterly could.

"Probably a good idea," Malodore agreed - after all, there was no doubt some of the other dorm residents would be Highly Displeased with having the power go out so suddenly, and the plague doctor had no desire to be on the bad side of half the demons on campus! "And yes, Christof... take care of that tongue. That can't be comfortable."

"Did the jar get obliterated too? Or was that out of the fridge?" Barth asked Christof.

The apartment was too dark for visual confirmation.

"Yeth, Mathter," He murmured to Malodore, before glancing to Barth, "Er... I'm not thure," Too much had happened to keep track of pickle jars, honestly. He was still blushing from Calder's remark, even as he pulled out his pocket knife once more. His hand hovered at his mouth before cutting the stitches holding the tongue in place, though, glancing back at his friends. A last word.

For now.

Maybe.

Nothing bad had come from this little talking bit, right?

Except Mistress being extra cross with him. He swallowed.

"Er, Thank you all. Again," He managed, "And er... Calder, pleathe read the book?" His voice was strained, but that said he cut the appendage from his mouth, staring at it in his marked palm in the darkness.

Calder huffed dramatically. Of course the last thing Christof said after such a nice remark was to get on his case about the signing book. Geez. It was a lot of words to memorize. "Oh My Elders, I will. I WILL! I already learned a lot." Now if Christof had asked where the nearest swamp was or how many leeches he had, Calder would have signed that. He had practiced in his room, but he guessed he'd go back to learning all the other, less entertaining, more useful words. That way his friend didn't think he was just ignoring the book. Not that he didn't have other things he had to read. Who knew if he'd get a call with his mother quizzing him on clan history. Oh, his brain hurt just thinking about it!

Sighing, he looked over as Christof once again took out his useful tongue which had reeked of vinegar for the entire time and did nothing to improve the Igor's breath, and held it. Seeing someone cut their tongue out, undead or not, made the kelpie wince. "Ugh. That always looks painful." Calder lightly bite his tongue to remind himself that he had one and it was firmly in place.

"Can I have it, then? The tongue," Barth asked, holding out his claw.

No use in letting the possible last vestige of his refrigerator contents get lost on the floor.
