Shol shook his head quickly. “Uh uh. I don’t haveta ask. Besides, Mommy and Daddy were talking again. Well, Daddy was yelling and Mommy was smiling, but for them, it’s the same thing as talking.”

"Well...you certainly have an interesting family," Apple Blossom laughed lightly, although she was starting to worry about the baby and the state his mother must be in. She knew how she'd feel if one of her babies was to suddenly go missing. Completely panicked - and for this usually content and bubbly mare, that was saying something.

“I guess so,” Shol shrugged. “They’re just my family. Can you tell if your family is interesting, or does someone outside the family gotta tell you that? I mean… I never met any other families. Is it normal for Mommies to be happy and daddies to be twitchy?”

"I don't know, sweety," the mare said as they continued back down the path that would hopefully lead them to the baby's home. "Each family is different. You'll see that as you go out and meet more soquili. But until you're older, I think you should check with your mother before you go wondering off again. I just hope we can get you back to her before it's too late."

"Before it's too late for what?" Shol asked, curiously. He couldn't imagine anything that could have been prevented by his telling Mommy what he was doing. Besides, she would probably just tell him it was fine and shoo him along. Assuming, of course, she didn't try to go along with him. Though, now that he thought about it, having his mommy along would probably make things more fun. Everything was always perkier when Mommy or Elan were along.

"Too late in the day," Apple explained to the colt. "It'll be harder to find your home in the dark, that's why we want to make sure we get you back there before the sun goes took low in the sky, alright?"

“Oh,” Shol considered that then nodded. “That makes sense. I don’t like the dark. It’s scary. Mommy says it isn’t scary but I think it is. Don’t you think it is? I think home’s this way,” the foal guessed, changing directions suddenly. He wasn’t completely certain, but that tree definitely looked familiar.

"Are you sure, sweety?" Apple Blossom asked following the little pony closely. With his dark coloring the last thing she wanted to do was to lose track of him in the night. "And I don't usually mind the dark, but I prefer it when I'm at home with my family intead of out in it..." she observed more quietly to herself. "When I'm not sure where I'm really going."

“I thought adults always knew where they were going,” Shol chirped. “I’m sure! I remember this tree. The butterfly I was chasing went round and round and round it before flitting off. So if we go round and round and round it, maybe we’ll be able to find our way back, too?”

"When we've been there before," Apple Blossom said looking around slowly trying to see something she recognized in the landscape. "But I don't usually leave my apple orchard very often...so much this land is new to me." She eyed the baby by the tree, "Okay Shol, why don't you try running around the tree, and I'll wait right here and follow you when you know the way Opposite of how the butterfly flew, because remember, we're trying to go home this time."

With a wide grin, he had been about to start running around the tree, then stopped when he realized that he was going the wrong way. He turned to run the other way, only to pause again. He frowned at the large tree, trying to figure which way the butterfly had flown. He was pretty sure it had gone right around the tree, so he should go left…. Yeah, that sounded right, he nodded to himself and ran quickly around the tree, as many times as he remembered the butterfly running. Then he got dizzy and had to sit while he waited for the world to stop spinning. That was what he had done the first time, he remembered. He’d chased the butterfly until he had gotten dizzy. So that meant…. “This way!” he declared, pleased with his own logic.

"Hold on for a moment, little one," Apple Blossom said gently grabbing the baby's tail with her teeth. "Let's not go running off with you half dizzy, instead take a second to let your head clear and then let's look around. See if you recognize more than just that tree, alright Shol?"

"I know, little one," she said soothingly. "But trying to find your way home is a little different. We want to make sure we are on the right path, don't we? To do that we have to use our eyes and look around. Sadly, I've never been to where you live, so I can't really help in finding it. But you can, can't you, Shol? Just take a moment and look around at all the trees, the paths, the river in the distance - do you remember how far your home is away from these things or if you've seen them before?" she bit her lower lip nervously, the first time beginning to worry that she would not be able to restore this little colt to his family. Oh how his mother must be so worried about him by now, she knew she would if he were her baby.

Shol scrunched up his face, trying to find something else that looked familiar. “Ummm….. maybe that grass looks right?” Grass grew everywhere, so surely there would be some where he lived, right? At least, it made sense to him. “Oh, I know, we could call for my mommy,” he added, grinning brightly. His mommy always came when he called for her. It might take her a little while to find him, but eventually she always came. All he had to do was sit down and yell as loud as he possibly could. Maybe his new friend would help him. If two people were calling for his mommy, then she’d come twice as fast, right?
