The ride back seemed much too short for her liking, but oh well, nothing to be done about it she supposed. Seeing him yawn made her do the same as she climbed into the car, covering her mouth with a hand before settling into the seat and buckling herself in. It wasn't long before they rode into the desert, the hot sand the only visible thing on either side of them. There were probably other things to look at - the occasional cactus or Numel or something, but other than that, just sand.

At long last they made it back to base. Yawning again Aulus climbed out of the car and rubbed at stiffened muscles in his shoulders. Needed a hot bath, but the best he could hope for was a shower. Still, he'd live. "Oh, right," Aulus turned to Claire as a thought occurred to him, "I get to keep the pokemon Tortie stole, right? Don't have to hand them over to the labs or anything." He'd 'accidentally' let them escape before he turned them over to the labs, but there was no way he was saying that in a garage full of listening ears.

"Not the labs, no," she replied as she got out and shut the door, walking back to sign the car back in before handing the keys back and exiting the garage, holding the door open for him. Once out, she shrugged. "Usually how it goes, from my experience, is if they want more pokemon they'll arrange missions to steal a lot, not just one or two." The one she'd been on came to mind, and how she'd only managed to steal Pidgey. Oh well, at least Alba got his second pokemon from that. Another yawn escaped her as she pulled out her Rocket 'dex to check what time it was. Arceus, she was tired..

"Hu," Aulus nodded, "nice." Reaching into his pocket he fished out the pair of red and white spheres, wondering vaguely which one was which. Rolling one of them into his other hand he searched for any nick or other mark that might tell them apart, but there was nothing. Just two plain pokeballs, one containing a Growlithe, and the other a Charmeleon. He'd be happy to own either of them...
Seized by a sudden impulse the scarred man closed his fists around the pokeballs and turned to Claire with his arms extended. "I had a nice day," he said quickly, "so pick a hand." She was the closest thing he had to a human friend around here, and it had been a good day even with the awkwardness brought on by the dumb waitress. Perhaps the best part had been the first part. Waking up with somebody else there. Not feeling alone. She was the closest thing he had to a friend around here, and people did nice things for their friends. Besides, he didn't want to stretch himself thin by trying to train up two new pokemon at once.

She spotted the two pokeballs out of the corner of her eye while walking, but other than that didn't really think much of it. That is, until he stopped and asked her to pick a hand. She paused, turning to regard him with a look of surprise. He had a nice day, so she had to pick a hand..? Oh. Ohhhh. He was actually being nice and giving her one? That was.. unexpected and sweet. A small smile pulled at her lips as she glanced down at both hands momentarily. "Left." Why she picked that one, she had no idea, but it wasn't as if there were a lot of other options really.

"Well then. Here," Aulus tossed the pokeball in his left hand to Claire and smiled back. "I've still got one new pokemon out of the day," he went on, still smiling a little bit, "and don't think Tortie would have thought to take them if Zeus hadn't goaded the dumb little p***k into showing them off so you probably deserve one as much as me or whatever." Were there people watching him? There had better not be, and if there were they'd better not be thinking of laughing at him... Hu, well if they did then let them; he had a brand new pokemon of some sort. Feeling vaguely smug for no reason he could pin down, and more pleased by her smile than he had expected Aulus clipped the second pokeball to his belt. It had been a good day. A very good day.

Though the toss was unexpected too, she caught it easily with both hands, and her smile widened a bit as he rambled about why she deserved one. In other words, he wanted to give one to her and had to figure out a reason so he didn't ruin his 'I'm a super cool tough guy' image or something, because obviously super cool tough guys didn't go around giving gifts to girls. "Thanks," she said with a slight chuckle, similarly clipping the ball to her own belt.
Suddenly she too was hit by an impulse, though it was a bit different than Aulus' to give one of the pokemon to her. In a couple swift steps, she closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around him in a quick hug. "I had a nice day too," she said as she pulled away as quickly as she'd hugged him, "it was fun." That said, she moved to the stairwell just a couple feet off, giving him another smile and a "see you around" before ducking into it and heading down to the training rooms to find out which it was. Why had she done that? He didn't need a hug, so why did she give him one? Because he'd given her a pokemon as a gift, and how many people had done that? None, so he deserved a hug. Yes, that was it. Nothing more than that.

"Uh..." Aulus blinked and watched Claire leave, his mind an almost total blank. "Bye..." Wow. Had she really just?... Not that it was a big deal... Well it shouldn't be a big deal. He was grinning for some reason. Wow. Still thinking only in vague sentence fragments Aulus set off for his dorm, still grinning to himself. Wow.
