It could also be to differentiate the factions from one another even further. From the look of things the Allied heavy assault walkers are what it says on the box: close support that moves in to support its troops. Main weapon system aside it comes with two dual .30 turrets and one .50 op top.
The German heavies look more like ranged support that hangs back, especially the ack-ack version. Which does make me wonder what kind of aircraft the game will be seeing as we're in need of such brutally overpowered flak cannons.

OMG quad 12,8cm? Even Maus was to have only 1... and dual 17,3 cm on Konigsluther are simply beyond the impossible... dual 155mm Long toms are by comparison, simply standard issue...

The game has officially lost its grip on reality, though I should point out that the 12.8 cm FlaK 40 is based on a real design that saw limited action during the war and was conceived as early as 1936 in an attempt to replace the already successful 8.8 cm Flak. The 17,3 cm AT's could be based on the 17 cm Kanone 18, which was a heavy towed howitzer.

Ah, okay. In other news, after trawling around town for a bit I've come across a few reinforcements that will come in handy when I'm home again: Operation SeeLöwe, Grim Reapers and the Heinrich / Hermann light panzer walker. All I need now is a box of Axis Zombies, Axis Gorillas, Tank Busters and a Wildfire / Honey recon robot and I'm all set for Operation Sea Lion 1947.

I'm on vacation, so here's a belated product preview of Operation Cerberus, an unplanned expansion that will expand upon urban warfare by including.. a multi-story building kit. Also included are two new heroes: a mini skirt wearing Nazi assassin schoolgirl by the name of Lara and a stereotypical Italian chef simple called THE CHEF who works as a spy for the allies. Also, new command squads have been previewed: Heavy Rangers who come with Victory MG's and rocket punches: Heavy Krauts who come with MG44's and a flak cannon:
