Connor had managed to make his way back onto the sands as some of the chaos died down, beisides he'd made out through the light of someone's glow a vaguely rocking egg..there was no way he was going to let some blasted tunnel snake keep him from impressing. Absolutely no way..of course when the eggs revealed two greens (one dead - pity) and a blue turned his eyes back to the sands, letting his gaze flit about for any signs of a tunnelsnake - he should have kept his eye on the dragonets for that as it turned out because the angry spitting green was dragged down by one nearly as soon as he turned about and it was the commotion of the gold looking for her that drew his gaze back to that direction and seriously made him reconsider heading back towards the dragons again.

Oh shells, the tunnelsnake was back and had snatched that angry little green? She had a better chance of fighting it off than the flit had, Vessali reasoned, especially with the gold hovering and helping as best she could. Still, it wasn't nice to watch. Or listen to, for that matter.
And then his hands were full of a glowbasket that he tried not to fumble to the ground and Sammis had taken off. Vessali made an awkward, clumsy snatch for the back of his robe and missed. "Sammis, what are you---?"
Oh. Oh. That was what he was doing. Not getting himself killed. He'd gone to meet his dragon. His dragon. Slowly but surely, Vessali smiled. "All right then! Go, Sammis!" And then: "Move! Get off the grounds!"

Yes, you can stay with me, Beksk said absently, still scanning the crowd. Although his vision was excellent in the darkness, there were so many candidates running around willy-nilly that it was hard to pick out the tunnelsnake. I hope I get to eat some too. If you have a dragon here maybe you can feed it tunnelsnake.
Of course, there was just as great a chance of the tunnelsnake feeding on Iafri's dragon (if she had one), but Beksk wasn't really focused on that.
Disappointingly, the tunnelsnake havoc appeared to have died down and some dragons were born. A blue dragon and two green ones, although probably one of the green ones was dead. They rushed around doing baby dragon things, blah blah blah. Beksk ignored the whole show until the tunnelsnake popped up again and began dragging one of the dragons away. And Brambel was chasing after it! Brambel!
Bekar! Beksk shouted indignantly. That stupid man is chasing the tunnelsnake and you are not! Go get it! He wanted to chase the snake himself, but he had sort of resigned himself to guarding the candidates next to him. He would have to wait and hope the tunnelsnake changed directions.
Looking out over the crowd, Bekar left the candidates and began making his way towards Brambel and F'sey. Not wanting to knock candidates over in a rush and cause another panic, he wasn't making very good time.

What the...!?
F'sey only knew the man dragging him towards the fray as the person who'd finally released him from his jail cell. Later, he found the man's name was Brambel. He was the Whermaster. It was good to know, the greenrider supposed, though he didn't expect to cross paths again with the older man, at least not so soon.
While he had some idea of trying to round up this terrible mess, between the candidates crowding the Queen and the tunnelsnake on the Hatching Grounds, someone was bound to get killed. (Little did he know...) J'aro had already gone bonding off; last the Wingleader had seen, he was pulling wounded candidates off the ground. At least he was kind of being helpful.
And now, F'sey was going to be too.
"Let me go!" he squawked, stumbling after Brambel as he tried to pull his knife from his belt. "Did you have a plan, exactly?" What were they going to do with knives, tickle the tunnelsnake? It was big enough to snack on dragons!

"I got no idea!" Brambel would admit. All he knew was something had to be done. That, and-- "We're old men! We've lived our lives! We can't sit by and let it be up to these stupid kids to take care of this!"
It was on that night F'sey learned there was some good in everyone, Brambel included. (Or something. Maybe.)
It was on that same night F'sey learned Brambel was not good with plans. (Which he felt he'd demonstrated when he married that wife of his, but we digress.)
"I'll hold it and you stick it!" Poor F'sey had no time to argue; Brambel saw the tunnelsnake and threw himself at it. Their unwelcome visitor turned on him and dug its long fangs into the grouchy old fool's shoulder. Amidst the haze of blood spray and pain, the Whermaster held on tight. "GET IT! GET IT NOW!"
Freed by the distraction, the dragonet fell to the ground, writhing in pain.
The Red Spot Egg rolled over and broke. Out toppled yet another green with a dazed look on her face. Dizzy, she lay down and looked up at the candidates running about.

Oh. Shards.
Teeth, right through the whermaster's shoulder.
That fiery green just writhing on the ground. Did it still have the strength to Impress? The green had to call to her rider, so they could pull her out of there, get her to the dragonhealers!... Maybe she should go? But no. No. It wasn't right to touch an unbonded dragon that wasn't yours, and it was dangerous too.
So.
She'd just stand here being useless... Another egg had hatched, reveling another green. Ash hoped this one fared better than her two sisters had so far.

Mairin gave a little internal cheer when the green dragonet was rescued. She'd been wrong again and was grateful this time, though whether or not the hatchling survived and impressed remain to be seen. Still, the teen was going with an optimistic outlook for the moment. For the hatchling anyways, her rescuers were now in serious danger themselves and Mairin was again frustrated by her inability to help, not that she had any weapons to use on the monstrous creature.
Her attention shifted as another egg cracked open and revealed a spotted green. Despite the chaos still going on on the grounds the newborn did not seem like she had the stability to wander it in search of Hers.

Shards! Was that the whermaster rolling about on the ground with a tunnelsnake attached to him? Connor wasn't close enough to see for sure but it certainly looked like it from here, it seemed another person was with him however and the glint of a blade was a reassuring sight "KILL IT!" He couldn't help shouting over the chaos, for the love of Farath kill that blasted creature he thought to himself.
The poor green it had attacked was writhing on the ground - it was really a wonder she hadn't gone between yet, many hatchlings probably would have in that much pain..but she seemed to be a fighter. And another had hatched another green by the looks of it..though she seemed t be a bit out of it.

Didn't have a plan. Figured! (But who the hell was Brambel calling old!? He wasn't old...well, he wasn't that old, Faranth!)
"Stick it? WITH WHAT!?" F'sey shrieked. He had a knife. A knife. Not a weapon, just something what was good for slicing leathers and an excellent threat. While it was probably good for stabbing someone (if he really wanted to), the Wingleader had no idea how it would fare against a large snake. It was a shame he wasn't allowed more time to calculate; for better or for worse, Brambel had tackled the snake.
"AAAAHHHHH!"
(A good yell made any man feel braver.)
F'sey lunched, sticking his knife into the creature's head. It wasn't a clean blow; he'd been aiming between the eyes, but the sharding thing had latched onto the Whermaster. The older man fumbled, reaching for the second dagger he had. (He only owned two. Well, one now. It was unlikely the snake was going to give that first knife back.) "DAMNIT, GET AWAY BEFORE IT KILLS YOU."

Blood poured down from Brambel's shoulders and his lips. He sputtered much of it at F'sey and the tunnelsnake when he shouted: "JUST KILL IT!"
A knife to the head would be problematic for anyone. The tunnelsnake struggled for but a few seconds, then went limp.
The smart thing to do would be--
Brambel yanked the teeth from his shoulder and kicked the creature away before he hit his knees.
--err, nevermind!
The injured green managed to get up, just enough to make a pathetic jump between, from which she did not return.
The calmer newborn had gathered her bearings as well. She spotted her sister as she left them forever, then the injured Brambel. Her eyes whirled yellow and her voice was alarmed: Mairin! Get the healers!

"Shards!"
The snake went limp (praise the powers that be!), but the dragon it attacked was gone now, and Brambel didn't seem to be far behind. Trotting over, F'sey wrapped an arm around the man, trying to set him down gently, as opposed to letting him collapse.
"Healers! Healers!?"
He gave the spotted green Hatchling a wary look, but as long as she didn't seem disturbed, F'sey would leave her be. He bent down, touching the Whermaster's arm. "Brambel? Brambel, can you be hear me? The healers will get you, it'll be fine."
Shards. That was a lie, wasn't it?

Beksk couldn't take it anymore. He broke past the candidates, dodging them as carefully as he could, and galloped towards the carnage. It was too late to save the Whermaster or the little green dragon, but he sank his teeth into the limp tunnelsnake and shook it anyways, furious. Were there any more? This one was surely very thoroughly dead, but if there were more, Beksk didn't care what anyone had to say. He was going to be the hero!
Knocked aside by Beksk's rampage, Bekar picked himself up and ran towards the Whermaster as well. He skidded to a halt by the man, ignoring F'sey. Without bothering to greet the man, he hollered over his shoulder for the healers. "Hey! Healers! Get over here, NOW!"

F'sey's bellow shot through his mind and down to Faladeth. The furious white echoed it, and her bloodlust and rage drove X'nar forward. He fairly sprang out of the stands and sprinted towards the massive tunnelsnake, having totally forgotten that he was unarmed. Luckily for him, when he was almost there it folded up dead.
With the death of the enemy, Faladeth's rage coiled into seething disappointment, and X'nar was able to master himself again.
He blinked.
...What the? How'd he get down here?
As a man rather accustomed to dealing with coming to his senses in odd places, however, when X'nar realised that he was standing before a rather heavily bleeding man, he reacted immediately by ripping his shirt off and pressing it firmly against one of the worst wounds. "That was impressive," he told the whermaster, "you've got balls as big as a bronzes." As he spoke, however, he kept an eye out for any healers who might be approaching so that he could jump out of the way as soon as qualified help arrived.

Even a fighter looses sometimes though Connor thought to himself as the wounded little green disappeared, it was sad - as it always was to loose a hatchling but he guessed she had been too wounded...I mean there were rumors that these things were poisonous.
But it looked like the tunnelsnake was dead! Or at least it was laying limply on the ground with a knife in the head..and being shaken about by a furious looking bronze Wher - which was a pretty good indication that it was likely dead and that was certainly something to be grateful for..well you know aslong as there weren't any more lurking about.
And with that though Connor threw a few glances at the sands around him..just in case something troublesome was lurking up on him from behind.

V'tor leaning forward and keeping an eye out for the tunnelsnake. It was sharding dark out there, and those candidates were wherries- injuries seemed to be running rampant, and the Gold was squalling. The first egg that hatched held a dead green, if he could tell correctly. Tunnelsnakes had like to have buried themselves in with the eggs and eaten them. Not what he hadn't expected, and not like it weren't what Losasath had said. Wasn't what Losasath had said, he corrected himself absently.
The next to hatch was another green, as angry as her mother was irritated, and then a blue, who hunkered down and squalled like the babe he was. It was their combined cries that probably told the snake where they were, but it was the green that took the blow, disappearing in the grip of the beast, being dragged toward the whermasters and the leaders. Losasath's gravelly shriek was full of absolute fury, and V'tor jumped more from the sound of hearing his dragon's noise than anything else. "Quiet!" he commanded the dragon, who continued to make anxious whuffing noises. "I can't hear." he snarled finally, and Losasath quieted to his normal soundless self, though he could feel the purple's rage. Mental feelings of Losasath's urge to tear, to hunt down that snake and make it squall like the dragonet was doing. "Stay with me," he told Losasath absently, as though the dragon wasn't too cowardly to give into those urges.
And then the whermaster was bitten, and the dragonet was free and quiet, the twitches of her body what gave her away over the sound of commotion. "GET IT! GET IT NOW!" rang out over the field, and Losasath bellowed again, his body starting a lunge forward before it stopped itself. The writhing dragonet Betweened, and the tunnelsnake was slain. The purples anxiousness was palpable and he nosed at His. "It will be fine, Losa." he muttered. "See? The snake is dead."
More. Losasath said simply. Not over yet!
