Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

Sitting on a chair at the top of the Militia Quarters in the Twisting Spires of Tenepolis, Salnesh was awaiting the reports from the outsiders... At least, what she hoped would be reports from them. However, she knew her region of the world well enough that she knew if she heard anything, it'd likely be the report of the death of some unwary travelers heading into the Wastes... Not that she was fond of the idea of having more deaths on her head, but it was just the way things were... She came to accept the deaths as the inevitable consequences of living in a land riddled with monsters.

A runner made his way to Salnesh... It was the Runner from the gate, who usually told Salnesh information regarding people either returning from the outside or the deaths of those that were found on the outside. Quite obviously, she expected grim news, but was informed of the contrary... The party was back and alive. Injured, but alive.

Salnesh could hardly contain her amazement. She thought they'd be dead within minutes. "Impressive..." She got up from her chair and made her way to the gate. Since they survived, their report was now more crucial than ever. Most importantly of all, they might know what lurks in the shadows for the Wastes, and more importantly, what threat would immediately be after the city of Tenepolis, as she had no doubt in her mind that something would come after them.

As the gate was opened and the Shinobi came through with his companions, she nodded slowly and looked to the party that managed to get back. "I must commend you on your hardiness... Most people sent out to the wastes never come back. What news do you bring from the Tunnels that you came back with such haste?"

Neysa felt a bit of relief as she stepped through the gates. She looked over to find Kiyoshi running off in a hurry. A frown appeared on her lips as she realized that she had told him that she was going to heal him. Her let out a soft sigh and looked up to find the woman that had sent them out there in the first place. She looked past her and towards the direction that the angel was heading off to then looked at the others in the group. "Ah...excuse me please.." she said in a soft voice and took off running after him. "I'll find you guys later!" she called back.

Neysa ran after Kiyoshi but he was so far ahead of her. "Kiyoshi! Wait please!" she tried to call after him over the other noises in the streets. She still wanted to heal him before his wound reopens. He had to have put a lot of stress on it today during the fighting and she still wanted to repay him for his help. Neysa was also rather curious to where the man was heading off to in such a hurry.

User ImageNarinthe's eye met the sight of Salnesh. He felt himself straighten up almost immediately. However, Kiyoshi burst into a sprint toward what he would assume to be the barracks. But why, he had no idea. Perhaps he still felt bitter with the Captan over the events that took place last night. Or, perhaps there was something else. Whatever the reason, it seemed to be urgent.. He was running that fast with an injury.

Moments later, Neysa called after him, running off with him. His eyebrow quirked higher in a skeptical look. She more than likely wanted to heal such an injury before he got caught up in something exerting within this city. She called back to them saying she'd find them later, and he nodded weakly, holding a hand up to her as his head lowered. Good luck with that..

His head turned to meet Salnesh's own red eyes again. He paused, looking behind her at a parchment merchant. He held up a single finger, as if to tell her to hold on. After this, he made motions with his hands that indicated he would be writing this down for her. A report. He bowed deeply, before side stepping to purchase some.

He walked calmly behind her, only a few yards to where the stand was. After holding out a few coins, it was exchanged for a quill, a small bottle of ink, and a roll of parchment It was small, but it would get his job done. He turned back to her, and lay the parchment against a nearby wall, and began scribbling down his thoughts.

'I apologize for returning so early, Captain. We had no choice but to do so, and I have something to report to you. There is something we encountered in the Tunnels, the nearest one to Tenepolis. From the very moment we encountered the Prospector outside of the tunnel, I felt that something was not right. He claimed that demons ate his men; his clothes were fresh without soil or dust; and he came alone without an escort--which I assume you wouldn't allow. He was eager to get us inside, and as he waited for our party to fully enter, he paced, mumbling something even I couldn't catch. ..It turned out that he wasn't human at all. We were attacked by demons at first, imps. Then: Necromatic attacks- the bones upon the cave floor rose into a creature, and upon disabling it, it's bones flew through the air like daggers. Sefas used a chemical attack on the Prospector, the details of which I am not fully clear on. The Prospector revealed himself as something else. A demon, which fit the perfect description of.. A Djinn.

Making matters worse, is the fact that he sent a bone attack on Sefas, the Alchemist. He was barely alive, when something else came from the depths of the tomb.. The Djinn shifted forms and left us to deal with it.. So it is still at large. Through my herbs, Neysa's healing magic, and Sefas' own potion,he managed to get here alive, though I request you allow him rest.'

He paused, looking back at her. He let the inks dry, before handing the Parchment to her, awaiting her response.

Salnesh patiently awaited the shinobi's response to her query, watching him as he wrote down the message he was going to give her... She was already rather acquainted with his apparent either incapability or unwillingness to speak. As he handed her the paper, she ran her eyes across it, a part of it causing them to widen in shock.

"... Oh no..." Salnesh's jaw dropped in abject terror at what was on the paper... Djinn, at least from what was recovered from the history of the Southern Region, were immortal... Except that a method was discovered that could kill them, but it was lost during the war that turned the Southern Kingdoms into the Black Wastes. "A Djinn? Are you certain?!"

Sefas interjected in the dialogue between the Shinobi and the Captain... He seemed like he had to add his two cents into the situation. "The creature we encountered in the tunnel was nothing I've ever seen... And trust me, there was nothing about it that was even remotely friendly. It trapped me in some strange, otherworldly Darkness and stabbed me with a bunch of bones! I was lucky to be standing in front of you right now, and the blasted thing flew away... I'm not beyond thinking that the creature in question was intent on fighting us until something else in the tunnel came up... Then it just left. Maybe you know more about that monster and its intentions than we do?" Of course, Sefas seemed to completely forget that it was the Shinobi who seemed to have the authority on the subject manner concerning the creature, although he was hoping that Salnesh knew something more about the creature... Particularly, how to get rid of it permanently.

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

Kiyoshi kept up his run towards the military barracks. It was so foolish of him to leave Akumi alone, lying in the middile of the floor in plain sight. It just wasn't right. Someone walking in there would take the body, not to mention Kiyoshi would be in quite a troublesome position. Especially when they found out that it was the body of a demon. People would think perhaps that Kiyoshi was planning on reviving the demonic woman. Kiyoshi kept speeding through, trying to get back to his room as fast as possible. The longer it took him, the higher the chances of someone finding her became. There was no time to waste.

Kiyoshi's sprint soon came to a halt. He had forgotten where the room was. It came as no surprise to him, seeing as he had only gone that way once so far, but right then wasn't exactly the best time to be getting lost. Kiyoshi looked around, and sighed. Everything looked so odd, and bizarre, and nothing was recognizable. "Where is it!?" He asked to himself, trying his best to remember how to get to the room. He must have taken a wrong turn or something, because nothing seemed familiar at all. Kiyoshi didn't want the poeple of Tenepolis to know what he was. There would be a huge ruckus about it if they found out. Because of that, Kiyoshi couldn't fly to try and found out where the living quarters were. He was starting to get frustrated.

User ImageNarinthe's gloved hand dropped to his side again as she took the parchment. He stood tall and rigid, his eye following hers as if to await the reaction he knew was going to come out of her. The calm look to her red eyes faded, and she whispered something faint, but something of concern no less. As she continued reading, the unease became more apparent. She'd read that Shinobi believed it to be a Djinn.

His head turned to Sefas as he spoke. He nodded at his words, looking back at Salnesh to give her his own, serious nod. He was being serious--he truly felt there was a Djinn loose in the wastes, one hostile enough to play with travelers in the Tombs.

Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

Salnesh was gravely concerned.... The Djinn were, as many people believe, one of the main causes of the destruction of the area that is now called the Abyssal Plain. In fact, what little remained of previous history records tells those who dwell to the south that the Djinn had been a thorn in the sides of the Shadows long before the Wars between the Southern Nations broke out and resulted in the complete annihilation of the region's civilization. So much so that there are even a few odd theories about the-

It suddenly hit Salnesh like a mountain crumbling to the Earth. Of course! Why did she not think of this earlier? It would be dangerous to attempt, to be sure, but no less dangerous than sitting around and waiting for the Demons to decide what day that the city of Tenepolis shall be doomed to die.

"...Shinobi. You are a resident of this part of the world, and you will understand this better. I'd like a private word with you." She then bowed to the Alchemist. "You should rest, Outsider. The wounds you sustained are serious, and your courage is commendable... You earned yourself some rest." She then would direct Narinthe elsewhere to speak in private... Something that he, as a resident of the southern regions, would be more aware of than his compatriots.

"Tell me, Shinobi... I'm sure you are familiar with the legend of King Nomolos..." For those reading and don't know the legend, King Nomolos was said to be one of the rulers of the region now known as the Abyssal Plain, and many theorists credit him (or perhaps people working under him) with a most fantastic discovery, an apparent way to do away with the Djinn permanently that was never implemented, or never completed, since the wars occurred shortly after Nomolos' reign ended. Because of the massive destruction caused by the war, any details about the reign of Nomolos are scattered, obscure and fragmented, and the secrets of the destruction of the Djinn even more difficult to find and confirm... It had become something of a Holy Grail for the people of Tenepolis, as this knowledge is a miraculous, almost mythical saving grace that had become to the people who simply lived day to day lives a legend at best, wild delusion at worst.

"Given time and resources... Do you believe that your group might be able to find the Lost Knowledge of King Nomolos?"

User ImageNarinthe nodded to her. He was a resident of the South, though he frequently travelled outside of it, and into the Eastern or Western lands for mercenary jobs. She wasn't too aware of that, and he didn't feel it necessary to make that apparent.

As she bowed to the Alchemist, he listened to her, and gave him a deep nod as well, and a side ways nod to the barracks, where Neysa and Kiyoshi had run off. It was as if to usher him in that direction, and to reassure him that he'd join him later. He then turned to follow Salnesh away from Sefas, an inquisitive look in his eye. What could she want to talk about that would require knowledge of the Southern lands?

As she spoke, he nodded to her. The legend was something of a legend to some, a truth to others. Like the Fountain of Youth, or the Holy Grail, the discoveries in the matters of the Djinn was something heavily speculated upon, doubted by some, hunted for by others. Though the Shinobi himself was unbiased on it's existence or not, he knew that the Djinn did exist.

His thought process was shattered like glass under a hammer as she spoke. His eye gravitated to her's, widened with contemplation. Hesitantly, almost like he was going over his answer, his eye floated away, toward the ground by his feet. That was something no one had ever done. It was a daunting task he had no idea where to even begin looking in. He didn't know what resources were going to be required, or just how much more time.

His gloved hand reached up to his head as he scratched the back of it in a gesture of his thought, as if he felt she might have been confused on what he was really doing at the time. He finally looked back to her, his eye heavy with his unsure judgement, as he tilted his head, as if to ponder something she said.

Resources. What did she mean by that? Did they have leads on where to begin searching in the militia? Perhaps scrolls of Old with some type of information.

Salnesh saw the expression of shock on Narinthe's face, but she also noted one of confusion... Perhaps she didn't exactly make clear that the resources and the time were going to come from the city...

"Allow me to elaborate... Until now, we had no spare hands to go out and actually investigate a few leads that some of our scholars have found. We have reason to believe that several more clues are either in the Tomb or in the Abyssal Plain... Along with the clues that we've found, we have reason to believe that the Djinn know the secret themselves and keep it hidden where they gather up." She looked around, then back at Narinthe. "Of course, this isn't just wild speculation, though I'll be sending you one of the Scholars that try to find out where the Secrets are kept... That is, provided that you and your group are willing to help us find the Lost Knowledge of Nomolos. So, are you in?"

User ImageNarinthe blinked rapidly, looking back up at her quickly as she began to speak, as if he'd lot himself in thought again. In the tomb, or the Abyssal Plain? Perhaps that was why, at the tomb, it had been so anxious for them to get inside, and why it had been hostile. But he pondered why, then, that it would just up and leave like that. If they were guarding some big secret like that, would it not stay to ensure they didn't find it?

AS she looked around, he couldn't help but do so as well. Was she looking at some onlooker? He shook his head, looking back at her after she'd looked back at him, blinking awkwardly to her. She spoke of sending a Scholar with them--someone else they had to protect. He held back a hesitant sigh, his face a mask of no emotion. She asked if he was in.

He, after a moment, gave her a weak nod. Though he hoped the rest weren't going to push themselves. If it was too much for them to go back out, they could deny--hopefully she'd allow them to, anyway. Shinobi himself was prepared. There was more than likely high pay for this job. Plus, it would save people in the future, were they successful in locating the secrets.

Neysa ran through the streets after Kiyoshi soon lost sight of him. Her running came to a slow jog then to a walk. "Shoot.." she mumbled. "Now where did he go? Oh! maybe that place where we were staying at!" she looked around but soon realized that she had no idea where she was at. A frown formed on her lips and she let out a soft sigh. She looked around for someone to ask but none of the people around her seemed very friendly. She didn't want to chance any trouble. Damn...she thought as she started to walk again. Thats what I get for running off...why didn't Kiyoshi just wait up for me? I thought I was loud enough...She let out a heavy sigh. "Whatever Mr. Birdman. I'll go back to the others." She said as she turned away and started back in the direction that she came.

after a bit of walking she soon found herself in a darker area than before. No no...this isn't right...she shook her head as she wandered the streets. Where were the gates? Perhaps the others were still around. She stopped in her tracks and looked around. But which way are the gates? I thought I cam this way but...nothing looks familiar. She rubbed her temples and started to walk again. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! You can't even fine you way through a city." she quietly scolded herself.

Sefas had obeyed the Captain woman's orders... That is to say, he wasn't planning on disobeying them. She carried a lot of power with her presence... Her military rank notwithstanding, she was just a scary person period. As he walked through the streets to get some well-earned rest, he then realized he had no idea where he was going. Walking around in circles and hoping he'd reach the military tower eventually, he instead, by happy accident, encountered Neysa along the way. He then smiled and waved lightly.

"Oh, fancy seeing you here... I'm hoping you're not nearly as lost as I am right now." He let out a slight smile and looked around, hoping that she knew the way around...

User ImageNarinthe nodded to her as she spoke. She had places to be, she was a busy woman within this city. She would find a way, surely, to get the Scholar to one of them, and they would begin then. Though, he wasn't too excited about this, he would still take the job on. The others, though, he was unsure about.

His eye drifted to his shoulder as she pat him. It was unexpected of the woman to do so, but it didn't bother him too much. He nodded at her back, though he felt silly the moment after he'd done it. Their progress would be heard once they got the scholar to assist them. He silently walked ahead of her, on his way to the Barracks.

On his way, a less-than familiar sound his his ears: his own stomach growl. He looked toward the market, and padded inside of it, hoping to find something to sate his hunger. He meandered about, until something stuck him. A Fruit stand, imported from the other lands.. They were heavily expensive here, but one amongst the rest took his eye: A green, large pear.

He waltzed up with heightened speed, as if the pear was something significant. He picked it up with eager superspeed, handing the woman the 18 gold pieces. He turned around, his eye floating upon the green surface as if to eat it by merely gazing at it. On his way back, another thing. A voice. He turned, looking at Sefas and Neysa. Slowly, he slid the pear into the small black pack below his ninjato, and walked toward them, a skeptical look.

Stopping aside them, his head looked upon each of them with such a gaze, before a tilt of his head, as if to ask what they were doing there. This was the total, complete, opposite direction from the Barracks, and Sefas was told to go back there. Neysa had gone to chase Kiyoshi, whom was evidently not with her..
